This music evokes a powerful memory for me. I was 10 years old the day that JFK was assassinated. At some point after his death had been announced on local TV, they put up a black-bordered picture of the dead president and played some mournful music sung in what I think now had to be Latin. My mother was in the kitchen softly crying as she made dinner. Down the street someine was burning leaves. A few years later, I was listening to the "Sound of Music" movie soundtrack. It was summer time and the sadness about JFK's death had abated but and as I listened to the track entitled "Morning Hymn and Alleluia" it was if I was back on the fall afternoon and the world was sad again. I swear I could even smell leaves burning. Music can have such a powerful effect on you.
Was that the opening of Mussorgsky's "Pictures From An Exhibition" that I heard at the beginning? Great to hear a version other than the one in the film I liked it!! If anyone would like to hear more music of this genre, look up The Choir Of King's College Cambridge! 😊😊
Interesting. The cathedral bell tune at the very beginning sounds exactly like Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" - which is derived from a RUSSIAN ORTHODOX chant 😂😂😂😂
Mother Abbess doesn't know how to do the sign of the cross and how to bless the nuns. The nuns were suppose to kneel down before the blessing or bow their heads.
Maybe it wasn't a Catholic school doing the production so they messed up some things. But hey, if you were blind and could only listen to this performance and not see it, you'd still have that feast for the ears, right?
@@ElleCee62978Bummer. My niece just did this this weekend, that's why I'm checking out all these UA-cam videos of this bit. Their production also had random mic issues. So far this might be my favorite . . .

I had to sing the second bit in 6th grade and I just spent forever trying to find it to refresh my memory. This was beautiful!
You deserve comments, this is a great performance. Mother Abyss' voice is beautiful

Mussorgsky into the Westminster Chimes? I don’t think so!
what piece of music is this?

No one can spoil this for me - it touches me like nothing else on earth.

Moi aussie
sadly alto part in Hymn is too weak
Scoot toujours prêt that’s because soprano section leads had their mics on, none of the altos were mic’ed
@@suzyg20 sadly
@@suzyg20 that’s what happened when we did this show in HS. Unfortunately I was the Mother Abbess and I was the only one miced up.

@@bernadettecartin At Nazareth Academy? They were doing this this weekend, too. I did it 29 years ago in about 2 weeks.
