Been a Glock 17 owner now for 2 years and I love my Glock! Should anything happen I know I have a a reliable firearm, and to me that is one of the most important things, reliability.
Exactly! While I am smart enough to know most pistols are " underpowered" compared to rifle or shotgun, I'd still trust my G22 in a situation. My Remington 870 tactical also...
I guess I have perfect average size Glock hands. I've never had any issues with slide bite, and the finger grooves on Gen 3 and Gen 4 frames fit perfectly.
Thanks for the video. This is about "race guns". Most important point stressed here, if you carry a gun for defence of your life / as a professional keep it clean and lubricated. The psychology of this action switches your mind 'on' to weapon handling drills everyday you carry. There is a web site for the "25 cent Glock Upgrade" polishing the internals; I have done this to each of the seven Glock pistols that I have owned (in fact most knowledgeable shooters do his to all production pistols) to make them 'slick'. I installed the extended slide release, magazine release, slide lock catch and "Maritime' striker spring cups. I use Armoral car dash board cleaner in the magazine well and magazine for slick mag ejection. Night sights are in the same league as a telescope on a rifle, you pay extra for what your situation requires. Where Glock wins is the Special Operator can do the complete strip to clean out ALL salt water ingress; this is a 30 minute training session. [I was the XO of an SF unit, the armourers replaced the internal parts of our Browning HP / later H&K USP about 4 times each year to replace seized-rusted parts.] I must be a weird guy, no slide bite and no beaver tail in 120K rounds fired: my only trick is to grip my hand guns like Col Jeff Cooper, with thumbs pointing at the target. Good luck and safe shooting to you all.
I bought two Gen 3 Glock 19's and sold them one after the other because the grip was terrible for me. The second I felt the Gen 4 19 grip I bought it. Great, fit the finger grooves and new grip texture are perfect for me.
Yup this is all right on with my personal feelings. New sights (tritium is a must), 9mm for carry/fighting, and something to improve grip (I'm more a fan of Talon grip wraps than modifying the frame).
I was slow getting a Glock as I preferred Sigs (bought my first one in 87) and the 1911. However I bought a Glock gen 4, installed a set of night sights and an extended takedown lever and a stainless barrel (I shoot a lot of reloads) I must say its a keeper. Shoots great and is every bit as reliable as my Sigs. I keep all my guns clean and I've gone to the same grease Glocks have on them from the factory. I can't keep them from getting hot and dirty when in use, but I can avoid friction with just a little grease and I love your comment about not having to shower every day lol. I can't relax until my guns clean and lubed and I've had my shower lol.
Guess I’m a fortunate son my hands fit the finger grooves on my gen4 g21 perfectly. It’s my first Glock and I’m in love with it.thank you for the information
I’m a fairly big guy (6’1) and the way the G17 grips in Gen 5 without added backstraps (and others without grooves) seems best for me. It’s also a smooth handgun
I definitely agree with the statement about the finger groves. That is the primary reason I chose the G17 as my CCW over the G19. They were uncomfortable and I could not get that good purchase I wanted. Great video, gentlemen! Thank you.
I got my first Glock in around 1986 for a contract job I was about to go out on . Only thing I've done to it is go to a lighter trigger . I now mostly carry my Gen 5 G26 and really like it . I also have a Gen 4 G30 . I carried a 1911 for three tours in the 60's and also when I was on my local police dept. We could carry whatever we wanted back then .
This was a great video. "Taking a bath" with the "clean and lubricate" analogy was excellent. And you all agreeing on the 9mm is a key note. I imagine you'll stick to that as I ask how you all feel about 10mm in general, not necessarily in the Glock line.
Up in Alaska, when people there are in bear country, a lot of them are carrying the Glock G20 or G40 now. They're selling more 10mm in Alaskan bear country than anywhere else on Earth, I think, and the 10mm Glocks are very popular. I would say that's a pretty good endorsement.
This is the most important source of information to watch before purchasing a pistol. These men are experts. So many people seem to want to purchase something other than a Glock to be different. But it's just a matter of time before people realize G19 or G17 is the best and they eventually come back to it. Question is how long will that take? I'm so glad I saw this video before purchasing my first pistol. I almost bought a Glock 22. I have a G17 gen 4. I feel it's the first and last pistol I will ever need. All I need is sights. Thinking of XS Big Dot sights. Dangerous game hunting inspired. Only other pistol I care for is a Glock 19 gen 4 but their a pain to get in Canada. There is a full length version of this video on UA-cam.
I love my G19 Gen4. Those additional back straps are money. I shot with all four to see which gave me the best comfort and shot group. I definitely went with the small beavertail. Points like a 1911 now.
I almost traded my 19 gen 4 for a 22rtf2 but at about 4:16 I changed my mind. Glad I didn't do it. I admire these gentlemen and value their expertise tremendously.
Love how Ken is talking about how he carries a Glock a lot but you can clearly see on his hip a 1911. I might have to buy a Glock one day and if I do it will be a full size 40 S&W. I already own a 9mm and 1911 so I'm looking for something different.
I was always skeptical about after market glock triggers due to reliability issues. That said, I may have to check out that guardian trigger. If Super Dave is endorsing it I would be willing to take a chance on it. That man knows his stuff as do Larry and Ken.
I used to hate the finger grooves on my gen3, until I had a undercut made on the trigger guard: know it fits my hands like a glove and I don’t have the “Glock knuckle” anymore.
koodos (sp?) to whoever made this video. He allows the guests to speak and to answer his questions without interrupting them. Very noticeable to me. Aside from the great presentation of interesting subject matter. Thank you! (from a glock shooter in Canada - did you know we have to get 19’s with slightly longer barrels - ( minimum barrel length req’t for hand guns in CA - approx 4.15 inches - anything shorter is prohibited (banned)
I have loved my glock for decades! I have 2 through the FBI UPGRADES. I don't have my original 17 because I traded it in on a 19. Carried one ever since. I have a 2nd 19 in my den. For me a lucky fit for the finger grooves just make it an extension of my hand.
Holy damn that was a good tv. Absolutely the highest quality conversation about quality guns between men who know what their talking about, the internet has to offer. One can't just hear them talking a lot of know how, one feels it in the way they treat their guns and just plain fondle them.
I don't recommend changing anything out when you buy a glock. Just go shoot it, and shoot a lot of it. Then change stuff out. I had someone who was a good shooter but never had a glock. Decided to buy one, bought it with a zev trigger, everything and first day it was jamomatic. He called it a piece of junk but once everything came back to the factory, it all worked like a charm. Only "upgrade" I agree with is new sights but even then, don't stress it if it is your first glock.
grade A production. i notice every shot the camera is moving. looks good 90 percent of the time. good audio and lighting too. just funny constant back and forth with camera
Really did enjoy the video it was not long it was to the point. three guys showing three different clocks. I myself have two Glock 17 a Kel-Tec Gen 2 k Glock configuration. Note about the carbine the first thing you change on that is the trigger it's about nine and a half pounds I brought it down to about five point three. personal carry is the 43 plus 1 mag in my carry, my backup mag is a plus 2. I did go with Teran only because I like the aluminum. I agree with you on the site's first thing I did was change the sights HD nights for my 43 and the same one you're were using on your 17 thanks fellas I think I'll subscribe. From South Florida, home of the free and brave.
Great stuff guys but the dollars add up. I've read comments about aftermarket sights-that being the one you recommend most-which replacement sights will work for years and not have the fiber fall out etc? The stock sights are marginal but I own them and they haven't failed.
Here comes the whole caliber issue: While I certainly believe all modern hollow point ammunition performs similarly in terms of ballistics in human tissue, I have seen that barrier penetration certainly differs. For self-defense I think that the 9mm is an outstanding cartridge. I think that the .40 or .45 options are better for LEOs due to the better penetration ability and flatter trajectory, say through a vehicle, in comparison with a lighter and faster 9mm which tends to deviate it's course through glass, sheet metal, and seats. This is just my opinion based on my experience.
Serious question. The g17 was made for the 9mm, consequently the .40 cals doesn't last very long because the frame wasn't meant for it, but what about the Glock 21s? Glock made a whole new frame length to accept the longer .45 acp round. How long do .45 acp glocks last? (And yes, I'm stuck on the 45, please no convert comments)
Have a Glock 22 but use a barrel conversion down to 9mm which is extended and threaded. Shoots very accurately and now I have a gun which shoots two calibers. Theoretically it's should last longer than a Glock 17 considering the 22 is designed for .40 cal punishment.
Saying the current glock is built for 9mm is internet rumor. This was true of 40 cal glocks before gen 3 but not current glocks. Glock beefed up the frame rails and slides in gen 3 and up 40 cals, along with going from 2 pin to 3 pin frames to reduce the stress on the frame. They carried the beefed up frame rails to the gen 3 9mm as well. Current 9,40, and 357 glocks are built for 40 cal. Glock 40 cals of current also have good case support. My 9 and 40 glocks both have equal case support. There is way too much internet rumor surrounding glocks and the 40 cal round. With the beefed up 40 slide running a 9 conversion barrel the gun should last as long as or longer than the glock 9mms. Unless you run +p or +p+ 9mm ammo. Most of these internet stories about glock are based on gen 2 glocks.
Have a couple Glocks it is a very reliable gun but I am not a fan of the ergonomics. I love H&K the feel the best in my hand. But when it comes to the most reliable gun its definitely the Glock. Not to mention the price is very hard to beat.
EDC 24/7 for me glock 19gen5 - liv and ride bicycle no car on philly pa streets - i also carree sholder holster wit glock 21gen 4 - wen u pull that out it uzualy stops most attackz witout shooting 45cal +p hollow points🇺🇸⚡️⚡️🗽
Great info and I agree with the caliber comment! 9 mill is one of the best calibers out there! You guys said the first thing to change would be the sights. I would will second that and also add a trigger job to the mix. Again, love the vid very helpful info!!! #shootstraight
Nope, go with a Glock 45 5th generation 9mm. I've put down deer and cattle with it. I put Night Fision sights on it. The most accurate Glock I have ever shot, and I thought my old 19 was good. The 19 does not hold a candle next to the 45. All head shots with the animals.
Never understood the grip force adapter. Sure it adds a beaver-tail, but it also adds thickness back to a Gen 3 sized frame, making the reduced size of the Gen 4 meaningless.
People that have "big and fat" hands find it perfect. I personally have "medium large skinny hands" (the gen 3 size is just perfect to me) and i do not need the "beaver tail" but i have seen many people suffer for the "Glock slide bite" and... They like the beaver tail...
Sure... It would make perfect sense... But if anybody have already the gen3 (and need the beaver tail) add it aftermarket is probably a better choice ...
It's for people with great big dick beaters, so the grip size issue doesn't pan out. If you have smaller hands, you aren't as liable to get slide bite.
I have one on a Gen 3 G21. It fixes the one glaring thing I've always had an issue with. I'm an old (in both senses) 1911 guy and my other semi-auto guns point like a 1911A1. So the grip force adapter, as noted in the above video, makes the gun point more naturally and allows for a full wrist lock. Like a 1911. I have medium hands instead of big, bear paws. yet with the GFA on my Gen 3 G21 (non SF frame) I actually like the way it feels. I'll be adding the GFA to a used G34 Gen 4 I'll be picking up at work that doesn't have the backstraps with it. So for the non-big fisted who don't have issues with slide bite, it's more a matter of preferred grip angle. A cheap fix and all my guns point the same and naturally for me. Downside is that the GCA comes with two in the pack. One smooth and one ribbed. So naturally, in gun guy think, if I have this extra $12.50 piece of poly GFA then I need to put another $500 gun under it. Right? ;)
Yes, the stock sights suck. Thankfully, there are a lot of quality aftermarket replacements to choose from. I put XS "big dot" tritium express sights on my G30 several years ago. They seem faster than 3 dots, and the eye is naturally drawn to the front sight. They seem pretty accurate out to 15 yds; i have not tried them at 25. They seem excellent for a close range ccw type gun (which is why i got the G30; it is quite accurate. I agree with stippling and the rear tang extension. The finger grooves work ok for me but i would rather not have them.
Quick tip for whoever: Ken is spot on. The grip force adapter made a Gen3 Glock tolerable to me, and that David Bowie "tree bark" texture is pure money. I made the texture on accident while experimenting, it's almost identical, it's damn near perfect. Tested with soapy hands. I'm sure Bowie does a great job, but its also an easy pattern for DIY. My 2 cents.
Well to counter the grip problem in the gen 3 and gen 4, finnaly fixed with the gen 5! Also if you guys are saying that the best glock is a 9mm one, particulary the glock 17 and the 19, why do most most law enforcement and military personel use the .40 glock 22 instead?
Been a Glock 17 owner now for 2 years and I love my Glock!
Should anything happen I know I have a a reliable firearm, and to me that is one of the most important things, reliability.
Exactly! While I am smart enough to know most pistols are " underpowered" compared to rifle or shotgun, I'd still trust my G22 in a situation.
My Remington 870 tactical also...
@@glock-hm3ro If you want a more powerful Glock, get one that shoots 10mm ;)
I guess I have perfect average size Glock hands. I've never had any issues with slide bite, and the finger grooves on Gen 3 and Gen 4 frames fit perfectly.
G21 here - the groves fit my fingers just right.
Whose fingers fit perfectly into your grooves?
David Giles Yeah lol
I have large hands & I've never had this Glock bite happen to me. Maybe that in the video holds his pistol in a certain way?
@@perplexingperceptions8888 - same I have big hands no problems
The Glock 19 and 17 are my go to carry guns. I do agree with replacing the sights it does make a big difference. Great video!
God Bless you Mr. Vickers! Thank you for your service and contributions to the nation and to the tactical shooting sports.

G19 all day everyday!

Fucking right.
Every day. Glock.🇺🇸🗽🦅🇦🇹
G32 all night, every night
leadpersuasion don't you forget it!
You can't beat Glock G19. They're the AKs of pistols.
Glock 20, 10mm is my only Glock! One shot will drop almost anything! For 9mm, there is CZ75 SP-01 Shadow! Larry, great series! Thanks brother.
My EDC is a Glock 19 g4. Thanks for the input, I have good mods on my G19 and the video is always confirmation. Thanks.
The best takeaway is CLEAN AND LUBE YOUR GUN. I’m always baffled when someone tells me their pistol runs great with any care....
Fun fact. A little dab of copper anti seize lube in the slide rails will keep it slick. I use this on all my Glocks and 1911’s.
I was slow getting a Glock as I preferred Sigs (bought my first one in 87) and the 1911. Larry, you took those bits of advice straight from my repertoire!
That's good, sound advice. Just like what's on my G19.
Too easy!
I love both of my glock's I have the 21 and 30 both are Gen 4 and their perfect, glock forever baby !
Have a stock g17 gen4. Love it.
This was a great video. "Taking a bath" with the "clean and lubricate" analogy was excellent. And you all agreeing on the 9mm is a key note. I imagine you'll stick to that as I ask how you all feel about 10mm in general, not necessarily in the Glock line.

I love my Glock 19. And I run it stock.
The only way to run it.
Ghost trigger bar, tru glo sights and extended take downs on my 30 sf. Did the same to my 17
by far this is wisdom. 100% back every word
No finger grooves on a gen 2 19 my fav great video LAV.

Love the videos. Gives a good realistic perspective on what to customize and what not to custom and for different types of gun owners.
A 19 fits in my hand perfect it's the only glock I own
Gen 3, Talon Grips, Apex Trigger. Holosun ACSS. Money. Just wish we had a nice US made 65 MOA circle reticle red dot optic for handguns.

Glock is king. I need to get some of those Hackathorn sights. Pretty cheap on Amazon.
I did a poly 80 build that takes care of a lot of these problems. Love the g23 and g22's.
I have loved my glock for decades! I have 2 through the FBI UPGRADES. I don't have my original 17 because I traded it in on a 19. Carried one ever since. I have a 2nd 19 in my den. For me a lucky fit for the finger grooves just make it an extension of my hand.
Carry the gen 4 g26 just as good as the g19 and g17.
Great video, nice suggestions which are not difficult to implement. Take care.
Can you do a video breaking down the differences between single action (SA), DA, and SA/DA handgun actions?
Holy damn that was a good tv. Absolutely the highest quality conversation about quality guns between men who know what their talking about, the internet has to offer. One can't just hear them talking a lot of know how, one feels it in the way they treat their guns and just plain fondle them.
I don't recommend changing anything out when you buy a glock. Just go shoot it, and shoot a lot of it. Then change stuff out. I had someone who was a good shooter but never had a glock. Only "upgrade" I agree with is new sights but even then, don't stress it if it is your first glock.
I love me some beaver tail
I hope to one day own a Glock, for the novelty of it, but I only carry DA/SA, so only the CZ 75 line for me, currently the p07.
Those beaver tails come with the gen 4, idk if they were out when this was made
grade A production. i notice every shot the camera is moving. looks good 90 percent of the time. good audio and lighting too. just funny constant back and forth with camera

+1 Gen 3 Glock 19 with night sights.
I fixed my G17 gen 3 slick grip two ways. Poly 80 frame and a S&W M&P 2.0. Still need good sights on the Glock Slide.
Yes I got some great answers to some questions I had and straight from people I can trust with my life!!!! thanks.
Great stuff guys but the dollars add up. I've read comments about aftermarket sights-that being the one you recommend most-which replacement sights will work for years and not have the fiber fall out etc? The stock sights are marginal but I own them and they haven't failed.
I just can't pony up the dough that seems to flow so easily for most people. $100 for sights would be better spent on ammo and practice.
I might not be a Glock fan, but the video is still cool to watch! Thanks for the video!
I like the G21 SF 45.AUTO
Here comes the whole caliber issue:

.40 the past four years. I've only issues with the cost of the ammo.🤣
9mm in the hoods, 10mm in the woods.

William Carmine Well the 21 was based off the 20 (10mm frame) so you will not have any reliability (cracking) issues.
He's 100% right about the 9mm part and I own .40 cal
G19 G4, my EDC. Great gun. PS these guys are so badass
my first glock modification: traded them all in for my first HK P30. best decision I ever made
HKs all day!
Very helpful video and commentary. Thanks!
Wow that's old...saw that on tac tv like 2 years ago at least
i wonder if the finger grooves are an atf points thing

+Jack Thompson Well actually they design 40s generally off of an 9mm slide so you don't get that benefit of lasting longer.
a Glock 22 with 9 conversion will last as long as a Glock 17, not longer.
+Jack Thompson Same frame dude
Great video with some great information. Thanks!
I love the 17 but 19 is the best
Hahaha love the taking a bath analogy!!!
Good stuff as usual, had never subscribed before, until now.
See I only buy gen 3s because the finger grooves are perfect for me. I’m sad they aren’t producing gen 3s anymore
+grappolidipalma is gone, there's only me now y not just get a gem 4?
Right? ;)
The sights mr Harrington are using aret those the same type that Dave Spalding uses?
LAV, if you had to have a STOCK AR-15 (not a build but complete gun) what would your choice be???
Good to see you losing some weight LAV!!!
i like the stock factory plastic sights, but i also wouldn't be against trying different sight.
that sounds like a typical internet response. good job.
xs bigdots are pretttty nice
what kind of springs need to be put in the magazine if one is using the +2 base plate for glocks?
Good info. Not a Glock owner, but very good info.
My Glock 20's will always be my favorite model... Now if Glock would make a true G19/23 sized pistol in 10mm.
Thumbs up for 10mm.
Like your 20, the 21 is for the one shot/one kill guys. And if the perp is 300 lbs + theres plenty more where the first came from.
joe schmo .45 ACP will never be a one-shot-kill, unless you hit the apricot or the heart, but a .22LR is just as good.
i really like that HK45
Glock 17 Gen 4 from the box. I like simple things. I like production class.
Larry ...Good stuff right there !
My 2 cents.
What about Glock 18 gen 4 or 5 ?
Well to counter the grip problem in the gen 3 and gen 4, finnaly fixed with the gen 5!
Also if you guys are saying that the best glock is a 9mm one, particulary the glock 17 and the 19, why do most most law enforcement and military personel use the .40 glock 22 instead?
I learned that I love my CZ P10
