My Dad carried a 1911 in Vietnam, I carried one in a 25th Recondo platoon, then as an MP and instructor and armorer. When I got out and was a gun dealer for a while, I got a Gen 1 G17 right after Miami PD did their famous torture tests and loved it, but felt I was cheating on my Officers .45. My wife was actually mad when I sold it 10 years later. I Bought a G19 gen2 when they first came out, and my Dad immediately kiped it. I let him keep it and he wore the finish off it, then had my uncle (a GA State Police armorer) carried in to Glock and had them refurb it. A couple years ago after my parents were killed by a drunk driver I found the G19 in his "special spot" and it has become my usual EDC. I still don't like the look, but can't argue with the tight groups that always find their way out of the muzzle...Thanks for the info and your service Brother, enjoy the holidays with the loved ones.
Thank you..you too
Survived Vietnam, killed by drunk driver. Jeez!!! Sorry to hear that.
My condolences to your you and your family.
Sorry about your parents.
I lost both of mine to CHEMOTHERAPY.
Condolences to you brother on the passing of your parents. Did you work for Miami PD, I was with Metro-Dade for thirty-four years! If so small world. Blue On!
Good video. My unit switched to G19 around 2015. I actually preferred the medium-compact size since pistol was secondary weapon. G19 was big enough to shoot well enough but small enough to be out of the way in vehicles and tight spaces
Secondary being the key word. If you need a pistol in combat, it's a major OH SHIT situation.
You hit on one of the keys to the Glock 19's success: Logistics. Mags, parts and ammo available virtually everywhere on the face of the globe. It truly is the universal service pistol. Thank you for the very professional and informative presentation.
Thank you
.....and it's cheap.
@@martyyoung3611 True, but it works 👍🏾

HK USP: am I a joke to you?
@@MionMikan yes you are
I am fascinated by the in-depth details as to how the Glock 19 came into play in special forces! So much I did not know or consider back when I first heard the news.
It's always great to hear what really happened and why from someone that's knows the truth. Simple and to the point of how it all went down from an actual guy that had boots on the ground. There's so much misinformation out there that's so misleading. Keep up the good work MTS
I hate the word misinformation.Lying. Whatever happened to that word
Misinformation because the people passing it around may not intentionally be aiming to deceive, I'd think? More that people are lazy. 99.7% of people will believe whatever is said with 1) sufficient authority and 2) credible-sounding arguments, according to a study done by scientists that I just made up.
@@saint5203 I'd think difference is is the intent. Misinformation is ignorance and possibly stupidity, but lying is actively malice/intent to deceive
I prefer the term, "horsehshit." There's a lot of horseshit on the internet.
Misinformation is whatever socialists don’t like.
I would’t consider myself a Glock fanboy, however, I was issued the Glock 19, and fell in love with it from the word go. It was much more ergonomically correct and comfortable for me than the M9. Its sites were spot on, and it just felt like an extension of my arm. I now EDC the Glock 19 in the civilian world, and feel well equipped.
I was always the anti Glock guy but last year I got a great deal on a gen 5 19 and I am really happy with it. I never leave home without it.
The "Glock hate" is deeply ingrained in those who have misconceptions and aesthetic requirements. Glock pistols have become the benchmark against which all other manufacturers are being measured. Glock has revolutionized the way pistols are built. Many manufacturers sell pistols that look and feel like a Glock but when it comes to reliability, combat worthiness and durability under extreme conditions, there is only one that makes the decisive difference...It's the Glock!
I've used a gen 5 Glock 26 9mm with Ameriglo sights. I added a few upgrades. I'm happy with it.
The Gen 5 Glock actually won me over. Much nicer to shoot in my opinion that the previous generations.
G19M gen 5 🔥
@@garyzies3486.... SO so true. 👍
I’ll take your answering I’ll add mine, the Glock 19 is a far superior and most important simpler platform than the sigsauer 320 for example,
I have a special custom Glock 19, and it is one of my go to firearms along with my 365 XL, and my Glock 26, all in 9 mm of course, simply because that is the most readily available ammunition along with 22 caliber and .223/5.56, I have several other firearms in 10 mm and 45 ACP, it’s just that the 19, is the most convenient all-around pistol and I follow that old adage, “keep it simple stupid”, and the Glock is simple & dependable
Great video and information. The Glock G45 was my first defensive pistol and It’s one of my favorite Glocks in addition to my G19 and G17 MOS.
Thank you!
I also edc a g45. Love it. I put an apex trigger in it and felt better to me immediately. Also have a 17L and I will never sell it. Beautiful trigger from factory.
I love hearing stories about the Army acquisition process. I had a Tier One buddy once tell me “no mater how cool you are, you’re still in the Army.” I shot 1911s growing up, shot an M9 in the Army, and a P226 as a police officer. All have about the same grip angle. I’ve tried glocks a few times and every time the grip angle/sight picture would be off. At this point I stick to what I know. My P226 is my fav handgun hands down.
Your buddy is right
we used P229 at my agency, I like Glock but my fav are 1911's
@@NegroRotary
Just curious, which agency?
There's a few here in Maryland that are issued the 229.
@@RicArmstrong I work for the Department of Veterans Affairs, rumor has it we will switching to the Sig 320
@@NegroRotary no offense, but what job at the VA could possibly require a sidearm?
When I was in the Army as a combat medic, we carried the 1911, then transitioned to the M9. Both good weapons but the biggest issue was lack of proper maintenance. I never saw a M9 get new springs (recoil, or trigger), while the 1911’s were just worn out.
the Army would shoot them till the locking blocks broke then basically rebuild the whole pistol. Dumb.
🤣Frater (brother) went Army, medic, first duty station Korea (DMZ). He was asked if he wanted a pistol (M9) or a rifle (M16A something). Told the SGT the M16, cause I aint fixing anyone till the shooting stops, or I'm out of ammo. "Dooggie" is such a smart ass, I'm sure his beside manner is impeccable. Yea, wanted to be a doc, started there try to get the Army to pay for med school, 🤔Dr Dooggie?
Marines would never let 1911's shoot out, always kept in good repair by armorers. The Army is scary.
@@sdfswords The MP M9s were in scary condition. The 1911s looked nice because SRT actually knew what they were doing
😮
I retired from a certain aviation group that supported y'all with a few other door kicker's. After a few downed aircraft misshapes and the customers were carrying G-19's and we had the M-9's long story short we started carrying G-19's.
Very interesting and informative. Got my wife a Glock 34 a couple months ago. Gen3 because… California. Perfect right outta the box, but gonna add a mag well and TLR-8A and call it good for now. Shoots great, feels good in the hand, and the stock extended mag and slide release are perfect for her. I like it so much I just picked up my Glock 17 Gen3 yesterday - TLR-7A, Vickers extended mag and slide releases, and Magpul mag well are all on the way. Factory triggers will do just fine for us at least until we get several hundred rounds through each. Red dots are a consideration with aging eyes, but want to see how far we can go with iron sights. Enjoyed the video and look forward to more.
I was running a TRL-1 but got a deal on a Surefire X300; the spill is much better and you don't have to futz with the plastic adapters like on the TRL-1. Good on running the Vickers stuff (I like it quite a bit) and you might want to look at the Pro-texture grips from Talon Grips.
I have a Glock 35 Gen 3 and use a 9mm drop in barrel and it's buttery smooth with that heavier walled barrel. Shoots like butter! Works great as a .40 cal but is like I have a G34 too with the 9mm barrel swap.
Also got the G35 since you can also swap in a .357 Sig barrel into it. Also have a 17 both Gen 3 since I am from California too.
Glock 19 Gen 3, In my opinion has the longest track record and reliability record. Definitely a go to war handgun. Many more other options out there that are probably great if not better but when you speak of the military they will get contracts at a cheaper rate.
I love my 19s and my Gen 3s for oem part availability and the track record and for conceal ability. For go to war can’t beat a 17 Gen 3
@@dannyrbailey I like the 17 too it’s the first big guy made for 9MM. The 19 fits my paws soooo much better
I have Glocks from every Gen but 1 and I even have a 17M which was the precursor to the Gen5's but the Gen 3's are my go-2. 19 for carry, 17 for home defense. Gen 4 & 5 don't do anything for me that Gen 3 can't. It's important to remember that Gen2 & 3 built Glock's reputation.
H&K USP with the interception
Gen 3 G19 with Ameriglo spartan operator night sights and a trl7 weapon light. Hard to beat this combo in my opinion

Thank you for sharing your information. I've carried a Glock 19 everyday since 1998 and I have always felt it was the perfect gun for me. My first Glock was a 26 and with the OEM +2 extensions it was a super nice carry gun, but I shot a friend's 19 and I just loved the feel so I switched, and I have not looked back.
My team got issued G19 while deployed to Helmand in late 2010’. Now I feel like the old guy preferring the G19 over the new M17.
Yup, us Glocktards are now becoming fuddtards.
Just ordered my first Glock, and it’s a Glock 19 gen 5 with the front serrations. Super excited to get my hands on it. Really informative video, appreciate what you’ve done for this country and continue to do on your channel. God Bless
My only complaint about gen5 is it doesn’t really have that iconic glock look, but it is all functional changes, so I’m happy to have one.
@@p51mustang24 gen 3's look the best to me. I guess it's a good thing since they are the only gen we can buy new in California.
I much prefer the GEN three Glocks, I thought I just add that there since, I am relaxing and watching this very informative video from a Fort Braggy - 👏
FT Bragg! Hows the traffic? Still sucks I bet
I'm a Gen 3 guy myself & I constantly find myself in the minority. I have Glocks from every gen but 1 and I can say 3's do everything I need. I also like them from a aesthetic point of view. I had one of the first Gen 5 19's in my region & they are fine but I wouldn't buy another because it doesn't do anything for me that a Gen 3 can't. I also have a 17M which was the precursor to the Gen 5's. A Gen 3 is just as reliable as any other gen. Gen 2 & Gen 3 are also the Glocks that really built Glock's reputation. Gen4 & 5 were really just a way for Glock to appeal to customers who want something new.
Gen3 are great 👍
I'm a Gen4 guy personally. But, that's just my preference. I guess I just prefer the textured grip.
@Matt Rogers same here love the texture grip
I know this is late, but the Glock (no matter which) is ugly, but it shoots ANY ammo, no matter what casing, no matter what bullet weight, it just shoots. Nut then I am ugly, but I go to work every day, I do my job every day, and some days I far exceed the exceptions. I get made fun of everyday when I shoot with the Gucci boys who spend three times or more what I spent on my Glock, and hold my own. There are those who believe spend much more money and you will shoot better. NOT true, master the basics then move up if you wish, but if you do not know how to shoot then the best pistol on the market will not make you better.
Never too late!
Glock 19 gen 5 ...hell yea Fayetteville Nc here
When the Glock first started getting attention in public, I hated them, I was a (wood/blue steel revolver) person ( : but I came around and saw what a great carry gun they are.
Took me a long time also to come around to Glock, I used M&Ps in 9mm for the longest time for my match pistol
Awesome info as always. Would love to hear you side of how USASOC adopted the URGI upper aka “mod3”.
I'm a retired police officer and carried a 40 caliber Glock for many years and I love it. I have 1911's, Beretta's and I like them but they are heavy period. But like you I don't like red dots on a pistol, I am much faster on target with regular sights like you said out to 25yds on a man sized target. Glocks are not pretty or nostalgic but they are very dependable in just about any environment and are very light weight. Great video, I just found your videos and will be checking out the rest.
Thank you, it took awhile for me to go Glock, now that's mostly what i shoot.
Thats why I like Glock is they’re as bland as a coffee thermos and no sentimentality just want it to work. The sentimental stuff is a good rifle or sxs shotgun or good fly rod. Im thankful Glock got rid of the pigtail spring design on the slide release though because I personally have buggered that up more often then not if having to fix trigger issue or something, maybe i’m doing something wrong even though I tug on it and feel for trigger pin to click in, I still have a problem with the slide release locking alide back prematurely on a gen 3 that ive worked on. Thankfully gen 5 has a new coil spring design for slide release/slide lock that doesn’t use that stupid pigtail spring riding under upper pin!
Great video with an interesting history lesson from someone that lived through it and experienced it firsthand. As a federal contracting professional I have to take issue with the whole strategy of writing the requirement to fit a specific product. The requirement is the requirement and really shouldn’t be altered or tailored to force a sole source acquisition. It isn’t fair to the market or the taxpayer. That said, the Glock 19 has built a strong reputation and I will probably get one soon. Thank you for the history lesson and for your service.
I am wondering why that flew when a compact pistol (SIG M11) was already in the system. They really hated that DA/SA transition on 1st to 2nd shot? SOCOM did save some money by getting Glocks transferred to them from a DHS contract.
I’ve never been big on Glocks but I love info about military procurement especially with SOCOM. I think it began when my unit got M7 RCOs and I just thought it was wild how surprisingly little standardization there was between different regular line units
Danners&Randall made knives.Americans roll their own. Issue is the LOW BID ALWAYS.
I remember being a young grunt on RPC-BIAP and seeing some plain clothes dudes with Glocks in the chow hall and being in awe. They were 5th group and this was in early 2008 so they must have just gotten them.
Just saw another video and realized you were 5th. It makes me wonder if you know a bravo that is a big "Moon"? The team warrant used to teach kickboxing and BJJ in the lobby of the team house.
I left 5th in 2006.

Jeff I remember reading your DR article. I'm glad to see you on YT. Thanks for explaining the Glock in SF. Thanks for your service. From one retired Soldier to another. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your content.
I think we actually started using them because we had so many captured Department of State issued Iraqi Police G19's. Every target we hit, we'd collect a few more from insurgents. First one I got still had the little DOS hologram sticker on it. We use to call it the DOS guns for insurgents program🙂 The only one happy was Glock, they got their dime no matter what.
We came across a few up north in Kirkuk and Hawijah
In the early days, I actually had an IP Cpt. tell me they thought the US was trying to give them crappy plastic guns, so they would go to the Suq and trade them for old Tariq's, or Hi Power's.....well they were Belgian made HP's so maybe that might have been a deal. Lol
@@ModernTacticalShooting I was in Kirkuk & Hawija in 2003. My rifle company (173d ABN BDE) issued local police Glock 19's. First time I had seen the gun. They later used them to murder civilians at their Traffic Control Points and attacked our patrols.
Talking about recovered weapons, a good friend was in the ‘Stan in late ‘01 starting off, and they were cleaning house in one of the primal regions ( just about the whole country back then) when they were clearing a mud hut where nobody was home, one of the guys found a WWII vintage M1 Garand in the place, along with the complimentary AK’s. There was most certainly a story behind how it ended up there of all places.

Now it makes sense why Grip Force Adapter almost never has anything in stock on their website. I'll bet that Government contracts are the majority of their business now.
I sold all my Glocks. I’ve never liked them. However I will say they make perfect sense for the military or law enforcement. Reliability, parts availability and simplicity is great.
I can smoke my buddy and his G34 with my Sig P320 in USPSA though ;)
I didn’t know why their so much red tape in the military - thought they give you what you want when you want because your SF but I guess not damn . .
These history videos are so interesting. Thanks for all your awesome insight and happy Thanksgiving!
I own 3 generation 3 19 s and none are Gucci modified. I shoot mine all stock with no “ laser gun “ effect’s. Adding all of that crap to them makes no sense to me . If a Glock was meant to have those “items “ installed on them , then they would come from the factory with them . Sorry , but no thanks . Nowadays people want everything easy and done for them . As for me , I’ll continue to shoot the way I learned to , all stock . Thanks .
What's the point in having 3 identical guns? Seriously not judging just curious. I would get it more if it was like a Gen 1, 2 and 3 or something like that. But 3 gen 3's all the same? Just for backup? I get not guccifying them though!

If you see 100 people jump off a cliff, you gonna do it too?? Just cause others do it, DOESN'T. MAKE IT GOOD OR RIGHT! When I was in USAF SF, we had M1911A1, it knocked down the enemy IN ONE SHOT! When I was a cop in the 1980's they issued us .357 Mags, because they knocked down a perp in ONE SHOT! The 9mm is a weak piece of shit, I've personally had to shoot a drugged up perp 4 times with a M9 to finally knock him down. The Glocks are too light for control, they BREAK, and they are JUNK! Unfortunately we outfitted the terrorists with more than glocks with the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan 🤷🏾♂️
I would love to give the G19 another try some point. When I was still in the USMC back in the early '90s, I bought a then new Gen 2 from the base MCX. Unfortunately, it was a complete lemon. Couldn't go through one box of 50ct military ball without 2-3 stoppages. After 3 trips back to the factory, I finally gave up on it and traded it in for something else. Was not an ammo or mag issue as I had no problems with my friend's G19 which he bought at about the same time and from the same MCX. On top of that, I also bought a G23 at about the same time and that gun was absolutely reliable. Just the luck of the draw I guess.
The Glock 19 or the Smith and Wesson model 15 combat masterpiece all day for me.
The Glock 19 is a great choice but it’s too small for my hands. The Sig p226 fits my hands better than any other pistol. I do own a Glock 17 gen5 and it’s a great shooter
Try the Glock 45. Frame of a 17 - slide of a 19 and I found that fit my hand much better. Especially after putting on one of the beavertail style grips that come with it. And it's the only Glock I have ever seen that doesn't rattle. It's seriously solid.
@@willyhearrell9060 , thanks for the recommendation 👍 I will try the 45
I'll stick with the 1911 as ex military for civilian use, with the CZ 75 with it's low bore axis who's controls mimic the 1911. Shot a lot of Glocks because everybody owns one, and uses one, but refuse to own the LEGO pistol. LOL
Can't go wrong with the Glock 45. Also you mentioned Grip Force, they make some very good iron sights as well. I love the hard line type and its as good as a Red Dot if you ask me and I'm a Red Dot fan. But for concealability the Glock 45 MOS with a DPP is just not as good for CCW as a Glock 45 with hi vis irons.
a lot of Californians are keeping the aftermarket options for gen 3 features alive as well
Because it's all we can get lol!!! After all the research I feel like the Gen 3 was the best one tho...the gun roster is bullshit btw.

I’m an HK fanboy, but I’m convinced that the Glock 19/17 is the best value for money in a pistol. Best overall pistol is the the MK23/USP series. Great video!
When they pull, it better work with minimal concentration/max distractions......
Glocks are for people who can't handle firearms.....
Have a G19 I love, but my P-07 gets more EDC use due to being used to the M11 from the 90s.
It's incredible that the US military doesn't even seem to be aware of CZ. I have a P-01, and as much as I love my G19, the P-01 is a thing of beauty. Hoping to get the P-10 at some point!
I knew it was only a matter of time before the CZ nuts chimed in
@@ElMasChingon76 Yea, but I don't care about brands. Being former military I get tools that fit my needs. In the case of the P-07 I wanted a DA/SA for appendix carry and the better SA trigger after the initial DA. My G19 fills a completely different purpose. Gen 3 trigger is perfect for me
I remember summer of 2015, when we were told this will be our new sidearm moving forward, at first I thought 2/75 command was out of their mind giving us some plastic garbage to replace our M9, and it took just one trip to the range to realize how wrong I was. Now that I am retired, the g19 is still my edc. Best handgun straight out of the box, it doesn’t need any modifications. It is like the name states, glock perfection.
Absolutely. I love my Glock 17. RLTW, Hooah!!!!
Yeah. But nothing can match the trigger of a 45 out the box.
Perfection is a stretch. It does not "need" upgrades and can effectively be ran stock but really shines with upgrades. An iron sight upgrade to steel sights however is almost a necessity so that one handed manipulation can be done without breaking the sights.
I personally like the Glock 45, and add the tyrant designs extended mag release. It is only extended enough just to ensure not having to break your grip to reload and has an aggressive Chevron texture and has chamfered edges on the catch so the aluminum doesn't Marr the mags. I also add overwatch OG DAT trigger and magwell. I also feel a light is a must have, I prefer either the streamlight TLR1-HL or surefire x300.
None of these are 100% necessary, but make it way better. reliability is top notch and have no qualms trusting my life or the lives of my family with it. Also extremely easy to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair armorer level work with spare parts being cheap and easily accessible to keep on hand.
Fantastic platform
I wonder why no HK.

Remember getting a new G19, a certain team sarge would toy with me on the range with his M9. I ended up sticking with the M9. The accuracy department was much better but you suffer from reliability. Pros and cons. That M17/m18 though? Mmm pretty nice I will say. I would like to see ODA teams get 19X’s in the future, send them to crane to get milled or have glock sell the Army the 19X milled for a RMR

I really appreciate your non BS straight forward info brief . I get so tired of self proclaimed "experts trying to blow smoke". Your info was concise and free of personal clutter. Again Thank you.
Very cool video, thanks for setting the record straight!
Thank You
Makes sense! Lol at the “Dismal Grip” comment 🤣 So true, saw so many people run the strangest grips during qualification.
They probably ran out of money or something cause Glocks suck ass big time
I'm not a Glock fan, still a Beretta 92 user, but for me the best Glock is the G34.In this particular case, i was change my mind about this brand. Regards.
Same here, still use Beretta 92. Love it better than Glock.
Why? Like all things new to the market they gotta have it and play with it for a bit to uhhhh see if it’s duty capable.
Enjoyed the insight. As an Army vet that makes perfect sense. It prolly is crazy to a lot of civilians but vets know well how red tape works, Lol Regardless as a combat pistol the Glock is hard to beat. I have five and have my eyes on a sixth. I was leaning toward another gen 4 but I think you talked me into a gen 5.
Gen 5 will make you sell all your 4s .
@@ModernTacticalShooting My 19 is a gen 2, my 27 is a 2.5, my 21 is a gen 3 and my 17 is a gen 4, I guess it's time for a gen 5 22
@@jimmymcclure4549 get the G45 MOS and never look back
GEN 5 G19 MOS will print 6 inches at 50 yards with ease. That’s with the crappy factory trigger and an HS 507c. I’ve got a bunch of handguns but I always seem to come back to the G19.
No joke, as soon as that Sig pistol clip came up I was like, "that dude's grip sucks".... and 1/2 a second later the "dismal grip" note popped up. Haha! Too funny!
I purchased the 19 Gen5 and it has become my favorite….it fits my hands very comfortably, I shoot it accurately, it is comfortable to carry and the reliability track record is excellent. Works for me. As Dan Bongino would say; “You do You”!
Glocks are okay, I have a 21 I’m selling to a buddy…. Going forward I’m limiting my calibers, etc. gonna stick with my double stack .45s, Springfield XD, I got five of em…. Outlaw Josey Wales carried five pistols, why can’t I? 😉
I support anything Josey Wales related
Great vid I like glock myself my fav is the model 45 and my 21 sf
Hah! I guessed the rationale! (Part of it anyway.)
Very cool video man.
Thanks for the time, information and your service.
Be well.
The US Army should have chosen the Glock 19 as the standardized M9 instead of the Sig Saurer P320. The Sig Sauer P320 reportedly has trigger mechanism problems leading to misfires. The Glock has none of those problems and is far more reliable and durable than other modern semi-automatic handguns. Repair costs for the Glock are well below the costs of other brand handguns. The Glock is also much easier to service and maintain than other modern handguns. Plus, Glock parts and accessories are more readily available. At least, the US special military forces had the wisdom and foresight to select the Glock 19.
general issue handgun should have a manual safety.
love my G23
The fact that SOF has to “justify” the need for weapons is wildly stupid. i want my elite warriors having every damn piece of equipment they need or want.
Great to see that buraucracy in procurement is not the sole purview of the Canadian Army. The hoops we have to jump thorugh to get stuff is amazing. Only when I went to the Canadian Rangers did it change for the better (and I mean MUCH better), because no one knew what thehell we did so they just authorized things to make us go away (which I could live with!). I have a Glock 19 as a personal firearm and it is a joy to shoot. matches well with my Ruger PC carbine, too! At the end of the day, it is a secondary weapon. If I have to fight with a pistol, something has gone wrong (either mildly or seriously). The rifle/carbine will always be the primary weapon.
The Magpul stickers on the right side of the screen are upside down.
The Glock 19 Great Firearm!!
Not a fan off compact handguns at all. That said my favorite is glock17 and glock34
Well, it is a good reliable weapon.
Thank you for helping me understand why the G19 was chosen over the G17 ... I wondered that as well, still worlds better then a 1911 or an M9 lol..
Btw the M&P came out in 2005 but it was a new gun in the 06/07 timeframe with little fighting experience so I understand why the G19 was chosen ...
This information is so useful been looking for a video like this for years.
I dont do the whole fan boy stuff. I have a Glock 19. Its not that comfortable but i shoot it well. Doesn't need much modifications just a good set of sights. People think they need to get glock and spend a additional 600 bucks to make it good
If people invested all that money into training instead of all the tacti-cool modifications they'd be better off.
