One thing I will say is that this version of Harley is pretty much one of the most evil incarnations of the character. I kind of like that they write them as being absolutely awful people, who can still twistedly think of themselves as the heroes of their own story (Harley giving a lecture to Batman on sucking as a person is meant to be heavily hypocritical, but it is what an awful person would probably do in reality). Waller was more than OK with sacrificing them for a reason.
I absolutely hate this game, but Harley was like this in the original Arkham trilogy.
They also in-canon sewed the bodies together so the kids parents would further be hurt..so yea..
Instead of buying this for 70, I bought the Arkham collection on my ps5 for 5 bucks.

By the time Avengers released this game was too far along to change based on how that game did. The core problems with this game go way back in its development.

With Marvel's Avengers, I was waiting for it to be available on PS Plus so I can play the campaign "for free", just to experience playing the different characters and watching the story.
With this, I can't even be bothered to wait for it to go free because the gameplay looks boring as fuk, and the story looks like it will just piss me off.
I don't think they'll last "a few months", game is already dead and practically no one is interested in coming back to it to do the same chores they already went through once just in a different season; It'd be a waste of money.
If this game gets shut down, does that retcon this part of the Arkham universe?

Poison Ivy, a villain known for her sex appeal and her ability to seduce men to their doom, is turned into a little girl in this game.
Not only that, they got her, as a kid, to say the line "I don't know you, but... My pheromones remember you."
I've got some questions for Rocksteady...
Tbh she did something similar before. She died then came back since she is a plant lady. This game took the groot approach so instead of coming back as fully grown adult, she's back growing from plant to adult with her currently being a child. Also Poison Ivy doesn't just seduce men to their doom but women too, she's bi and been bi for awhile.
Was wondering about that, too. Kind of a weird choice and kind of disappointing because it moves her from the position of interesting side-character to pointless mascot.

i guess you will say that about all the future games. since its clear the multiverse has opened and "arkhamverse" games in future will have infinite number of batmen, supermen, banes etc (or maybe just 13 because there are 13 universes in the multiverse...) so when the 13th batman dies then its really over. until then they find the 14th dimension

Its weird how many professional critic sites are giving this average to good reviews even when they say it has boring repetitive uninspired gameplay and dull outdated mechanics. Even more suspicious is how none of the professional critics mention the ridiculous microtransaction and paid lootbox horse crap. If I were paranoid I'd say there were shenanigans going on in the background.
So. Bit of a lore dump. Captain Boomerang and the Rogues (Flash's normal foes) all have a code of respect and conduct. It keeps things from getting out of control when they fight. The last villain on the planet to piss on the Flash would be Boomer. Hells, he would be the guy to punch out the asshole who tried. Boomer RESPECTED Flash, because the Flash treated him decently. This is also why Boomer was on a lot of Task Force X teams, because he was smart, disciplined, skilled and never tried to commit more crimes on a mission. He avoided civilian casualties whenever he could and didn't let his ego get in the way.
Harley Quinn on the other hand is a mass murderer who has killed thousands of people, including kids. She has tortured, multilated, poisoned, blackmailed and done far worse. And she lectures Batman on morals.
They couldn't even write the bad guys properly despite them trying to prop them above the Justice League.
The Suicide Squad are the writer's self-inserts lmao
I would like to consider myself a Lantern lore buff. I'm not even sure where to start on how they handled the power ring. People like to say "oh it was corrupted." But the Guardians are one of the oldest living beings in the universe. It's safe to say they're also one of the smartest. They have contingency plans in case something like that happens to a ring or ring bearer. A Lantern wouldn't be able to run amok for long without some kind of intervention from Oa. But all that aside, even if he were somehow able to use the ring, I highly doubt King Shark has the will power to create such a large construct in the first place.

Note - All of them can block bullets and/or dodge with super speed.
It would have made sense if there are glimpses of control by the original heroes, fighting to take control of their bodies, their love ones, like let's say Iris, attached a wristband that slows the flash. Knowing what Suicide squad needs to do, the Flash stops for a moment to get shot intentionally. At the end of the fight, they give a speech, a hint, on how to defeat them, apologizes for what they've done and need to stop the rest of heroes. Instead of pissing on him.

@@darklyger64 that would only work if the events of the game happened just days after Brainiac arrived, at that point everyone likely would have been fighting whatever control Brainiac had put on them but if they take place weeks later then I don't know, at that point did they even recognize who they were anymore which I think is what even Boomerang was trying to tell Wonder Woman especially after they all WITNESS Batman killing people, her friends were gone there was nothing she could have done now to save them and even if they were somehow freed from whatever Brainiac did, how do you think they would have felt knowing that they had blood on their hands.

Don't worry though op, I'm not blind to the sarcasm in your comment. I'm just pointing something out. To add to your fact, Bane actually knows how to fight with weapons. But just like any other bad guy who has access to super strength, he prefers a more "hands on" approach when he kills people.
To make matters worse, Bane's one of the few big name Batman villains who get stuck with bad writers who think he's just a street-level version of the Hulk from Marvel. The same writers who change Harvey Dent to always look like an asshole before he got disfigured. The same writers who keep forgetting that Penguin isn't crazy, he's just as much of an asshole crime boss as Black Mask and everybody else at Blackgate. The *same* , *writers* , who can't tell whether or not Batman has more contingency plans for his enemies than his own kids.

Borderlands really set a high bar for the looter shooter genre. Don't understand how games can't just take the basic principals from Borderlands and destiny and apply it into their games. Borderlands is now a decade old at this point and still remains to be the undefeated champion of looter shooters, a game I come back to every other month to do a play through on and every time without fail its fun as hell. Best part is, its not shoving micro transactions down my throat when im grinding out some gear for my characters.
Don't worry WB saw the criticism and made the hard decision to double down on live service games and not good single player games despite the HP game's success and this one's failure.

I love Batman, and Arkham City is legitimately one of my favorite games of all time. The existence of this game is a sad fact and I'll never accept it as canon.
I always thought Arkham Origins got too much hate. The story is one of the best in the Arkham games

Arkham Origins was fine and had some of the best boss fights. The only thing I hated about it is that it was just but another Joker story. There's far top many baddies in Batmans rogues gallery for them to constantly center everything around the effing Joker

It's so obnoxious how Harley Quinn suddenly became some kind of Anti-hero and they have to now rewrite her toxic relationship with the joker as something she regrets. In Arkham Knight she was still obsessed with him, even after his death and she was free of him. This Harley was not the girl power version they're trying to promote, they just rewrote her. If they're gonna do that, and then change Deadshot with a really weak excuse, why are they setting this in the Arkhamverse? Just so when I play Arkham Asylum, City, Origins, or Knight, I just get this bad taste in my mouth that Batman is gonna be brainwashed into breaking his rule? This game made a series of excellent games feel worse retroactively. That's really saying something.
With how well Injustice 2 handled Harley (IMO) I'm honestly surprised they didn't take inspiration from that.
There's a healthy amount of good Harley Quinn media they could've borrowed from ,yet they just... Didn't. I don't understand why.
Because Harley is a self insert manifestation of the writer. But in reality Arkham Harley is very cruel and chaotic to ever be considered an anti-villain. Progressives what her to be like Jason Todd, but Jason kills for the sake of protecting others, Harley does not.

in a good game the harley fear toxin segment could have been something awesome where she asks joker questions at the asylum and its shown how joker is dragging her deeper and deeper but maybe at the end harley breaks free from it
My favorite part of the final Batman scene is the fact that Harley shoots him with a revolver and you hear a shell casing hit the ground after despite the fact that revolvers don’t eject casings after each shot lmao.

His Polka Dot inspired boomerang could be called the "Poker-rang" and when you throw it, it acts like a sentry that kind of slowly spits out polka dots. Making you have to think smartly as to how to properly use this weapon.
And you could possibly give CB, Baterangs which explodes on impact making a weapon that chip damages.
The fact that they gave Captain Boomerang more guns than boomerangs shows that they couldn't really think creatively with him. Except for the speed force traversal.

Harley's mental health was so damaged when Batman kept her from attending Joker's party at Arkham Asylum. And took a bigger hit when he kept her from murdering police (and him) in Arkham City. Henry Adams killing the other patients was the last straw, but of course him doing that was Batman's fault.

Whats more baffling is that it took 9 years to build this game!! and whats worse is that the new age writers do not respect the legacy characters which have decades of fan following. If they are so hell bent on writing new arcs and stories, build a new character with immense following and then do this sh*t to them. But, then it wouldnt serve their purpose.
Here's the thing. Games can change direction, design, and even entire development teams multiple times over the course of that much time. Especially under bad management. This screams from the mountains of bad management. The people who actually make the games and story rarely go into a project wanting to make something like this.

Redfall kills Arkane and now Rocksteady falls to Suicide Squad. Both live service ventures that were released half-baked, lazily and without any of the passion, quality or flair either studio was known for. Both live service games from studios who abandoned their roots to follow visions of dollar signs.
The most frustrating aspect of this is the fact that this absolutely will not stop. These studios don't learn, they never stop to reflect on what it was that made them who they were in the first place, or what garnered such good will from their player base. They don't learn from the failings of their contemporaries and try to give their loyal fans what they actually want/ask for, but instead the very thing *no one asks for* (live service game).
It's really frustrating to see.

Yknow what would have been better? A Wonder Woman vs The Justice League game. WW isnt the strongest, but not the weakest, so it fits nicely and gives way to her trying to find ways to deal with the stronger members. Could of had some (small) instances where she teams up with Waller or maybe a small moment with the Suicide Squad (major emphasis on Small) Could of had the good fighting mechanics like the Arkham games, better dialogue, and character development because of the connection she has to the League. Could of kept the amped up enemies since it is WonderWoman youd be playing as. They could even keep the whole 'Kill the Justice League' thing and have it hole alot of emotional weight per kill, pointing to the Flash scene where he directly tells her that the only solution is to kill them.
Would of made Batmans death alot better because of the emotional tie it could of hand between Batman and Wonder Woman.
Shit, cpuld even do some sick ass Spiderman type shit with a fight with superman, like countering him flying with the lasso or some shit then duking it out with him while dodging some of his punches and attacks.
But hey, what do I know?

What's sad is in one afternoon I came up with a fun Superman game concept with nods to other leaguers that coukd setup for an interconnected DC gaming universe. Here's the pitch
You start with Superman v. Doomsday. It's the classic metroid opening with all powers unlocked. Superman and Doomsday take each ither out and he wakes up x amount of time on the future. His clone has taken iver metropolis alongside Artemis and Red Hood. During the first league offensive, Wonder Woman was captured and Batman went underground. He finds Superman at the Fortress of Solitude in his healing sleep and catches him up to speed when he wakes. Thr game is Superman slowly regaining his powers while working up to taking on the Dark Trinity.
I would pay to play this!

Did you guys not play Arkham Asylum? The amount of times Harley and Joker and others call Batman crazy and deranged…
Difference being is that they're directed that way in Arkham to show you how warped their point of view is doing such cruel and inhuman things, the goal is to get the player to think on the kernel of truth that Batman IS crazy like them, but works with (relatively) stellar morals in comparison. But you're playing the vigilante hero-- they're *supposed* to be the opposite in Arkham.
But the complaint from people is the writers (and directors) *should* know what works and doesn't playing as a villain or anti-hero, but this direction they've took falls FLAT on it's face by *propping itself up* as if it's doing the opposite in the narrative itself. It isn't immersive, it's *very* clashing and offputting-- but not because they're evil like you argue. That's a default and an expectation, we're playing villains (and Harley is particularly messed up in Arkham).
People just don't see the logic of this translating to IRL motivation to make it the way it is, but they're fully aware this was made this way on purpose. And no one can understand *why* all of this was finalized other than the lack of veteran insight who's job it was to tie things together in a flow that makes sense, even with nonsensical characters and narrative since they borrowed from the Arkham-verse (because all the top developers for Rocksteady left over a year ago).
Best people can figure is things were changed very early, or half way, because not many believe the game has been in development for 7 years. Producers (from the beginning) wanted something for profit, the game was made with the floaty objective-based model with tacked on skins, but they-then still lacked insight to interpret from that made it inherently fun or at all compelling beyond a mindless shlooter arcade game.
There's no Arkham background for any of these characters except Harley and Batman, but loads in comics, and they *still* chose to make their interpretations in this way; which clearly didn't meld with the already established Arkham player-base lol I don't know what world they live in where they thought they'd like it; so it's just a baseless hook to garner attention for a game they (hopefully) knew the majority of people didn't want or ask for.
