I don't understand why people are so down on metallica. Yes they changed their sound a little. But james is still writing some wonderful riffs. After 30 years you have to expect change. Who here is in their 50's and doing exactly what you did at 18. They still play the old stuff live and it sounds great. But I don't expect another kill Em all or puppets coming out of the studio. It's just part of getting older and growing. I have a ton of respect for them just for continuing put out music.
People aren't really mad at Metallica, they're mad about aging. The guys are still putting out some great stuff, but to those who grew up with it it'll never be the same.
+Kevin N When writing, if you think you got a good idea, you gotta record it right away. Otherwise you'll forget, or only be able to partially remember how you played it. Once songs/pieces are written, it just like learning others songs. Repetition and familiarity.
They don’t remember all of them necessarily, mostly just the ones they play regularly or the that they’ve played a ton of times. It’s not really any different from memorizing covers
colin poitras right?!?! its cool because that's the actual v he used to record all of his parts on kill em all' the headstock snapped and he just didn't have much use for it at the time.
hetfield has the most beautiful guitars in all rock history. I would die for one of them... He's a Killer and so powerfull, that no word can explain it the right way. Godlike!!!
I think yes. They will be on Aerodrome Festival in Prague ( Czech Republic ) and they promised to us, that they will play as the last song, some new song! So.. I think the new album is near!
The amps they have lying around are usually Mesa combos, yes. That's probably the same one they had in the tuning rooms at shows throughout a good portion of 90s/00s which is a Dual Recto Trem-O-Verb. 2:45 is badass. Judas Kiss has one of the best grooves on DM and that chorus is just so powerful and thrashy!
around 5:40 to 7:55 they're working on my fav song. suicide and redemption. seriously love what they did with that song. it's even better live (from what i've seen on youtube) oh and after watching this, my appreciation for death magnetic went up. I love how hard James and Lars work to make their music right.
James loves those Gibsons. I can't afford the one I really want. I have a really old Ibenez 1976 copy of a 59 Les Paul. I traded a junk car, blown up 1980 4cyl. mustang like 25 years ago.It has grover tuners and really nice hardware I love it.
when kirk uses the tele, then his sound isn' t so heavy because of the coils (emg or not). James always uses emg active humbuckers (and sometimes pafs) and mesa boogie amp for metal/ Roland twang amp for clean (with neck pickup). James also uses different distortion or metal pedal, add the downpicking technique, and then you have a heavy clean and metal sound.
Dude they go over what songs the fans like and then they just practice it over and over.. They got new ear pieces that play background stuff via Bluetooth. Not too difficult. Wow 😱 amazing
That's true for when Kirk uses the Tele, but he doesn't use one live. He uses it in the studio where it can be mixed into the song. When he plays live, it's with EMG 81/81, or 81/60 for clean parts with Hetfield, and a shit tone of overdrive through Randall heads.
Man, say wathever you. But this album kills. It is by far one of my favourites. Kill 'em all is great, master of puppets is the master, but Death Magnetic just became the best for me. They changed their tone and all that but for me its better now. Just an opinion. Keep on recording Metallica you're doing great :)

Because it's different and different equals bad… but so does writing the same stuff all the time… fuck, you just can't win bro.
Amen
They’re incredible musicians.
People aren't really mad at Metallica, they're mad about aging. The guys are still putting out some great stuff, but to those who grew up with it it'll never be the same.
"It's always the diggidiggi's after the daladaada."
~James Hetfield
James Hetfield, the human metronome.
The greatest rhythm guitarist in metal.
2:45 ... this is thrash
0:38 James using Kirk's guitar.
SOOOOOOOO WEIRD
Mind fuck
How in the hell does one remember all of their own songs??? I am blown away with how musicians have that ability.
+Kevin N When writing, if you think you got a good idea, you gotta record it right away. Otherwise you'll forget, or only be able to partially remember how you played it.

@7:24 James, "Let's simplify it."
Producer, "Okay you want me to leave the bass out?"
James, "No."
LOL the irony
Jason Newstead where are you
Austin Mitchell I think by simplify he meant the guitar phrasing
6:56 its so beautiful *_* like a eargasm
Love it at 7:50 when hetfield plays his guitar from binge&purge. EET FUK it says haha.
+MR TKAY that's his old guitar he used to play on tour in the 80s
the man has a golden touch. you cant teach what he has
love the sound of the Gibson V on "Gymbag". Just classic thrash
colin poitras right?!?! its cool because that's the actual v he used to record all of his parts on kill em all' the headstock snapped and he just didn't have much use for it at the time.
It's probably "Electra" but James owns 3 replicas of this guitar from ESP. This guitar is definitely not a Gibson.
The laugh and look at 7:58, priceless :D
2:45 the judas kiss chorus one of the sickest riffs of the hole album \m/
Both Kirk and James are badass 😆😀😎
Saying that Kirk sucks won't make you famous.
Try to play and be famous like Kirk, then you can talk about how good you are as a guitarist.
OMG finally someone rational , thank you for being honest . #RESPECT
But.....my feelings!!!!
3:07 - How that feel?
- M'kay... I JUST CAME BACK FROM HELL!!
hetfield has the most beautiful guitars in all rock history. I would die for one of them...
He's a Killer and so powerfull, that no word can explain it the right way. Godlike!!!
6:03, James is saying in his head, "Dude, stfu!"
1:54 I love that riff it speaks to me and I love its sorta groove and melancholy.
Who else noticed that miniature copy of James gray guitar that is in the middle of James and Kirk just standing there on the counter of 3:10 ?
Fisrt to say, Awesome ^^ Love stuff like this!
The riff master!
Thanks a lot!
3:18 - first time I see Kirk Hammett with Telecaster!
2:47 That Flying V is older than most of the people watching this video, including me. He used that way back in the early days of Metallica.
I hope their in the studio right now doing this for a new album!!
I think yes.
They will be on Aerodrome Festival in Prague ( Czech Republic ) and they promised to us, that they will play as the last song, some new song!
So.. I think the new album is near!
Thwy will enter in studios in spring so it's near :D
they're
7:52 IS JAMES USING HIS ORIGINAL 'EET FUCK' GUITAR FROM THE AJFA TOUR??
Amoeba Rider Yeah!!!!
3:08 "How'd that feel?" - "Ok..." Awesome
The amps they have lying around are usually Mesa combos, yes. That's probably the same one they had in the tuning rooms at shows throughout a good portion of 90s/00s which is a Dual Recto Trem-O-Verb. 2:45 is badass. Judas Kiss has one of the best grooves on DM and that chorus is just so powerful and thrashy!
wait... so does that mean James was the one who wrote the Suicide and Redemption solo? That's pretty beast lol...!
spikezkid022 he plays the first solo.
Happy Birthday James!!
around 5:40 to 7:55 they're working on my fav song. suicide and redemption. seriously love what they did with that song. it's even better live (from what i've seen on youtube)
oh and after watching this, my appreciation for death magnetic went up. I love how hard James and Lars work to make their music right.
6:50, that clean tone, and the lick is just heavenly
Greatest rock/metal band ever. Hetfield one of the greatest song writers ever!
LOL
It's because it's the working title they used when they made the songs (also some lyrics and singing-rhythms were changed on the official release)
it's james' amplifier. he plays a diezel vh4. an awesome piece of win!
0:23 awesome bass riff!!
Thanks. :)
2:46
¿Original Kill Em All era Flying V?
+Mike De la Fuente yes
+Mike De la Fuente Yeah for this album he restored it and put in an 81/85 (or maybe even a 60) combo.
Great point. Makes sense now. Lol now time to start using my Strat to practice with my friends haha.
Love u Metallica,James Hetfield
James loves those Gibsons. I can't afford the one I really want. I have a really old Ibenez 1976 copy of a 59 Les Paul. I traded a junk car, blown up 1980 4cyl. mustang like 25 years ago.It has grover tuners and really nice hardware I love it.
james is a legend!
Best profession ever.
I truly say that The Mummy guitar is looking quite good in james' hands:D
This album should have been full blown quality... but it needs remastering! James' riffage never ceases
when kirk uses the tele, then his sound isn' t so heavy because of the coils (emg or not). James always uses emg active humbuckers (and sometimes pafs) and mesa boogie amp for metal/ Roland twang amp for clean (with neck pickup). 7:53 THE LEGENDARY "EET FUK" hahaha i love that guitar
Correct nice to see someone say what ive been saying for years :)
James is the Riff man.......All riffs of death magnetic written by him
Metallica is the only band in the world that can make EMG's sound nothing like EMG's....that's just epic.
4:32-4:36 classic metallica! :) love it!
2:46 - 3:07 .... Less known fact, but "James Hetfield" translates to " Badass Riffmaster" in ALL known languages!
He's also one of the best riff artists of all time.
Yeah or explorer. I love his ESP Snakebyte, this guitar is fucking awesome!
Nice riff covers man! will you ever cover full songs?
@marianpanizzi It's the kinda-solo from 'Suicide And Redemption' ... their instrumental song on the album!
it's from Suicide & Redemption, starts about 03.40. into the song :)
still hes fucking awesome
i dig the tele tone
awn thanks
I know the frustration!
The clean Suicide bit james does sounds fucking beautiful
kirk love you
just in the studio
Dude they go over what songs the fans like and then they just practice it over and over.. They got new ear pieces that play background stuff via Bluetooth. Not too difficult. Wow 😱 amazing
I would agree on that
7:57 Epic !!

I love death magnetic
7:55 legendary EET FUK
what kinda amp is it that james uses when hé is practicing? is that a mesa combo?
Awesome riff at 2:50 *-*
7:48 James playing the EET FUK Guitar!!
all nightmare long :)
That just helps proving my argument ;)
James looks cool with the silver beard.
my mind exploded at 0:39
the riff? or the fact that james is playing kirk's guitar?
6:50 made my day...
@marianpanizzi suicide and redemption (instrumental)
when hé is playing that thing that robert was doing ? is that on a roland :s? i thought a roland jc 120 was a clean amp?
James hetfield is the real deal man!
Yeah
what guitare is kirk playing at 5:03?!
That too
no i'm sorry i meant at 8:12 when hé is playing with robert. there is a
7:20 great riff for RHCP :D
Probably his best sounding guitar of this video too.
Hetfield is my God, and in God we trust, fuck yeah!
lol thank you dude, but that was really a rhetorical question :)
but you are fucking awesome \m/
8:00
7:46 EET FUK!!!
I'm so used to him using Les Pauls
The best band ever
Does anyone know what is meant with "German soup" at 0:25? Or was it the old title of Cyanide? :D
Demo version of Cyanide
Yes sir :p
OMFG EET FUK guitar from 1989 in 7:50!!!!
2:18 - 2:28 so, there are two James?

1:10 REVOLUCIÓN!
