Let's get real...we are witnessing probably the best rock band ever. I have been making music for money since 1966...and I have never heard or seen anything on their level. I bow down to that which TinyHat-san hath wrought.
Chris, Sam - Since you seem to really like the musicianship of our 5 talented ladies in BAND-MAID, you really need to enjoy their instrumental FROM NOW ON. I promise, you will be blown away. Yes, I'm that confident about what your reaction will be.
definitely a favorite of mine. Discovered this song weeks before my first visit to Japan and listened to it on my phone almost every day while i was there haha good memories with this one
Thanks for continuing to support Band Maid by these 'proper' reactions. Great listening to musicians give their opinions. As somebody whose only experience is listening to bands for decades. I am always impressed by Band Maids complexity in every song. They have such talented musicians that each member can do their thing and add to the sound. No short cuts or just throwing it together. Each song has that 'repeatability' . Never gets boring to listen to. Long may they continue.
Kanami had YOLO in her back pocket for a while. Between that and a few other songs, it was super clear they had the compositional chops to take over. YOLO shows us everything we've come to know and love: great riffs and hooks, melodic vocal lines, amazing counterpoint, interesting rhythms, etc.
Band Maid will never cease to amaze you as you go through their discography. Their individual and group excellence comes through in every song. There is a video on UA-cam of Kanami performing YOLO, one of her first penned songs, in a piano solo. The song may not be your cup of tea because it's not hard rock, but iti is beautiful. It shows how much of a piano virtuoso Kanami is.
The YOLO EP includes an instrumental version of this song (same recording, minus the vocal tracks) that lets you hear more clearly the complexity of the composition.
This is the "A" side of the single "YOLO" which was the first release where they had all songs written by them. It also set the tradition that their singles have "B" sides as strong or stronger than their "A" sides, which I know is hard to believe considering how great "YOLO" is. The "B" sides "Matchless Gum" and "Unfair Game" are great but there are no MVs for them.
Band Maid use every tool in the music tool box. They are masters of theory and composition and it is no surprise their songs captivate us. But of course if it weren't for their incredible talent as musicians all that wouldn't matter. They are the complete band.
I couldn't put it any better myself, it is true. And the other thing which makes Kanami stand out is her interest in bettering herself, like when they did the Band-Maiko videos she worked very closely with the sound engineers to be able to create her own electronic music. She just soaks up knowledge like a sponge.
Yeah, I had the same reaction to the song-title as Sam, but in fact the lyrics are beautiful. I agree with whoever wrote that first comment you read out. And the whole atmosphere of the song is almost meditative for me. If you go by composition-date rather than release-date, its older than "alone", which leaves ambiguity over the title of first self-written Band-Maid song. They are both favourites of mine.
With YOLO being a 2016 release, imagine how much better they are now!! ......it's hard but they are. LOVE Kanami's little slides near the end.....she's the busiest guitarists I've ever listened to. RABBIT HOLE????? It's a "Pigeon Hole"
I was waiting for you guys to react to YOLO, you always do such a great deep dive but couch it in a way that non-musical people can understand what you are saying. For me, YOLO is the dark horse for best Band Maid song. It really shows how complex Kanami's compositions really are and how they lend themselves to the styles the band uses. How she writes the parts and arranges them so perfectly after Akane and Misa give their input shows her Mozart-like abilities as a true musical savant. She is truly astounding. And how her arrangement puts everyone in their proper place with enough time to shine both singly and collectively, which is something you don't see every day, unless you watch Band Maid every day, lol. I can see where this song would make a record company approve the use of their own original music. I can just see it in my head, the executives going "WTF is this !!!!!", "This is amazing !!!", "It's going to sell a LOT of records !!!!!". I know I'm oversimplifying, but it sounds good. And Kanami's tapping is just so effortless. It's not like it's out front like in Onset, but if you listen, all you could do and shake your head about how she blends it all into the body of the song. You hear from comments and from interviews that Kanami writes music every day. I can definitely see that happening. It's like when she wrote Memorable in 2022 while she was on the tour bus between cities here in the US. With everything else that was going on about the tour, schedules, playlists and the like, as well as her not feeling well for a good portion of the tour, she writes an beautiful homage to the fans. She really is a throwback to the classic rock songwriting of the 60's and 70's and compares favorably with greats like Brian Wilson. In fact she really is the Brian Wilson of Japan. Just keep doing what you are doing guys, it's working paerfectly.
MISA MISA MISA!!!!! this is My absolute favourite MISA-centric song She may not be playing the most complex things in Her repertoire but MAN it sounds sublime and that Tone....
This is a very early Kanami written song lyrics by Miku. I believe Kanami wrote the melody back when the band first formed or even slightly beforehand. We owe a lot to Saiki's constant encouragement of Kanami and her belief in her band mates ability to dream up the melodies and riffs that have become synonymous with Band-Maid.
This song has one of their easiest bass lines, yes easiest, so with that you can know that MISA is one of the best bassist ever, because is not easy at all, and is no shred, so tasteful, so unique sound, her tone always is the best, MISA-sensei my inspiration
It's true, we only live once, and I'm damn glad to live in the same short time span that we have as these amazing ladies. ❤🔥🤘🏻 _____________________ _"Sometimes we laugh because we're sad or to hide our frustration"_ - from *Gacharic Spin* -「 I Wish I 」 🎶✨
I'm glad you noticed Kanami's lead in the calmer breakdown section after the solo. That pulloff riff with the two slides - perfect guitar tone and delay. Of Kanami's vast riff selection - this is one of my favorites.
Your reactions are great, so insightful and with so much respect for these talented ladies. Really enjoy watching you Band-Maid vids, thank you for that.
Another great reaction video. Thanks for the thorough analysis. You guys pick up on and dissect so much of what my untrained ears miss. Keep up the great work.
Great Reaction as always. How about a double Feature ? BM Secret my Lips / Secret Maiko Lips . Would be very interesting which Version you like more. Come on , Band-Maiko was the best April Fools Day Prank ever , but became a Fan Favorite .
Maybe you want some slow action? Anemone is a GEM! There’s not MV but you can find a track. I’d love to hear your professional opinion about this song.
The YOLO ep is awesome. It seems very different than most of their releases. Well, to me anyway. If you can find the live versions of Unfair game or Matchless GUM I'd like to see what yall think.
Yes, it was one of their early self-written songs once they got full control of their output. So clearly they wanted to show they were capable of more complex compositions. In truth, I think they took it a touch too far during the second verse - to my ear it doesn’t quite mesh as seamlessly as it should with the rest of the song. Notice they don’t have any issues like that in their recent, much more complicated compositions, so they’ve learned and improved their abilities and their craft. Still a great song and important in their development as artists. Next? Have you done “Moratorium”? Or “The Dragon Cries”? Or “Hibana”? Or “Corallium”?
Yo! I’m first! 🎉 Thank you for keeping Band Maid in heavy rotation. Meh, not a top tier Band Maid song for me. I’m still holding out hope for the long-awaited, impossibly juxtapositionally perfect: Offset Era Onset Reaction 😢 P.S. I don’t know if that was a real word, but it fit the purpose! 😉
@@DeanF_MIDI I’m with you; I hate myself when I don’t love a Band Maid song. YOLO ticks all the boxes: well composed, complex, well executed transitions, remarkable musicianship. For me personally? Same as several other BM songs; my mind knows it’s awesome, but it doesn’t affect me like so many other songs. (Disclaimer! Some songs hit me after some time on the playlist)
Technically their oldest song. Kanami wrote it originally before Band-Maid. It was revamped for this release.
Let's get real...we are witnessing probably the best rock band ever. I have been making music for money since 1966...and I have never heard or seen anything on their level. I bow down to that which TinyHat-san hath wrought.

Definitely one of their most underrated tracks of all time....These girls just rock.
The 2 B-sides Matchless Gum and Unfair Game are bangers too with long and crazy Kanami solo’s
For me, this is the Band-Maid masterpiece that's hidden in plain sight. Not many reactors get to this song, my long-time favorite.
I agree 1000% !!!!!!!

I'm not surprised at that at all. Such is such a multitalented artist and yet she is self-effacing, humble and NOT ego driven at all.
The YOLO EP includes an instrumental version of this song (same recording, minus the vocal tracks) that lets you hear more clearly the complexity of the composition.
YOLO proves without a doubt that these ladies were making complex and interesting music right from the start. Can't express how much I love this band.

You helped me out for my daily B-M fix. YOLO is a monster of a song. One of their best.

Band maid simply the best

I got into Band Maid very early, Thrill only had a thousand something and real existance had only 455. So when I watch this it brings tears to my eyes
You can thank the visionary and extremely talented genius mincho she is incredible add in the master bass line and the greatest drummer on the planet

that's the 'but wait, there's more!' of 2nd verses

I love the B side of Yolo, particularly Unfair Game.

Sam, you are a dead ringer for a friend of mine named Steve from the mid-70's, but he was a big acid head and not nearly as eloquent.😶🌫
Have you not done From Now On? Band Maid please
Since your band name is "Offset" Era... I'm surprised you haven't reacted to "Onset" by Band-Maid... only seems logical, lol.
The Warning Disciple live at Teatro Metropolitan, just saying.
guys why dont you react the individual documentary of the girls for your reaction for you to know how they form
2016-2018- My favourite Band-Maid period- too much straight fast hard, rock/metal can be just too much sometimes.
Yo! I’m first! 🎉 Thank you for keeping Band Maid in heavy rotation.
