As much as I love Band-Maids newer songs, I love their early songs. They show the "je ne sais quoi" has been there since the beginning. Miku cast her magic spell and the universe brought her 4 other women who shared her vision to form the greatest female rock band this old man has ever seen or heard.
Talking of finding beauty in Saiki,s teeth, you might remember Miku,s Peace and Love song where she includes the following line "Wabi-sabi" Wabi-sabi is the view or thought of finding beauty in every aspect of imperfection in nature.
"It's like she is accesing a part of the listener brain that feels some sort of nostalgia" a year and a half looking for that words to explain my love for the band.
If you asked me "top Band-Maid songs" this would probably not immediately come to mind, but whenever it comes on my playlist I'm like, "Fuck yeah, YOLO!" They have a lot of songs like that. They're just so consistently high-quality that even a song this good doesn't really stand out.
7:55 Friend from Thailand looks at the Band-Maid poster and says they "look" hot! Well, their music is hot as hell, and will melt you away or even turn you to ashes!
Saiki's teeth are actually considered very attractive and special in Japanese culture. I grew up in Hong Kong as a kid back in the '80s and everyone back then was obsessed with everything Japanese. I remember all the young girls would die to have Saiki's teeth. Many top actresses and Pop idols had those teeth, and it would be a crime to get them fixed. Also, I think the fangs give a cat look on a girl and the Japanese absolutely love all things kitty. What an interesting world we live in!
Agree with the comment about their chorus always sounding instantly familiar. You end up with an instant nostalgia with music you have never heard before. I swear it is an audible addictive switch that keeps you hooked. One day they will play a song and we will all drop what we are doing and in a trance like state walk to some gathering point and create World Peace or something with pigeons.
This is one of their older videos, but you can already hear a foreshadowing of their most recent work--the density, the slight feeling of being out of control, the exotic harmonies and rhythmic changes. Oh, and yes, a lot of us like Saiki's vampire teeth. Just sayin'
Saiki is like all the others an indispensable pillar in the construct of this band. That applies to her talent as a singer, as a human, as well as her visual appearance and presence on stage (and probably a lot more). On the subject of her teeth, there are quite a few thoughts running through my head. But none of them are negative in any way. It just makes her more human, it's a part of her, and I actually think it suits her immensely. It is even said to be a thing in Asia that some people even wish for... I believe we would do very well to get rid of the idea of perfection that has been implanted in our minds over decades. Or to describe it with a lyric line of the ladies 'Perfection? No one gets there.' 😏 【 'Our rock never dies ever. Forever!' - from BAND-MAID 'Manners' 】🕊️
Great reaction! I saw Band-Maid three times in concert, always in the front row pressed against the stage, one meter from Saiki, I could hear her natural voice. The song Yolo, in concert, is one of the most exciting in the Band-Maid repertoire, during Yolo my wife crying with emotion, Saiki straightened all my body hair. Saiki has an elegance and a disarming posture, in concert she smiles, if you get noticed she answers you with a look or a gesture with that incredible right hand with very long fingers, and that dances throughout the concert, she is a true queen on stage but she never obscures her companions, often in the instrumental parts she moves to the side of the stage she almost puts herself in the shade and smiles watching the performances of her companions, often touches and caresses them while they play, I saw her stroking Kanami's hair in a solo guitar, he kneels in front of Akane in reverence when Akane kills the drum. She plays with Misa on stage, they kneel and touch, she is weird but very exciting to see in concert. In concert the Band-Maid have a very original behavior, different from other bands, they are open, always smiling, attentive, especially Saiki, to what happens under the stage, I saw Saiki interrupt a song because he thought that a person had problems, I have been to hundreds of concerts and I have never seen such a strong connection between bands and spectators, they know how to create magical concerts. Band-Maid knows how to transmit a great emotional force during concerts as few other bands can.
A song I always consider "similar" to this one in how interesting it is is "Glory" which is totally worth checking out. Has one of the best first verses and prechoruses band-maid has ever done.
This song is one that grew on me over time, used to skip it when it came up on my playlists to get to other ones I liked more like Choose Me or Alone but the more I heard it the better it got, I never skip it anymore.
That whole concept of "feeling like you've heard it before" speaks to my belief that some songs are crafted and others are "discovered." On a primitive level, we know they should exist, but only rarely inspired artists can articulate them.
I think Kanami came up with the essence of the vocal melody for this one - she posted a piano instrumental version on her instagram. Not conclusive, but I get the feeling that's how it was written.
Great job!. I love this song, top ten for me no doubt. You have to be daring and extremely selfconfident to write this song at the begining of your career (YOLO is a single just after Alone). Bravest girls over the World!!!. Oh, and they are hot
I think what makes this song unique is that it's probably the earliest piece of songwriting by Kanami that became a Band-Maid song. Kanami wrote it as an instrumental prior to the band's formation, and Saiki liked it so much that they added vocals. They've also released three versions of the song: the full version you reacted to, the original instrumental version, and even a Band-Maiko version. For me the song bursts with creativity and really shows off the songwriting talent that Kanami brought to the band.
@@sacluvsBM Alone was the first original song published by the band, but as a music composition, I believe Kanami wrote it after Yolo.

I think YOLO is not in essence a song. It's more to a sound, a perfect mixture, an arena experience or an overwhelming emotion. A dish made from excellent ingredients by.. okay.. hot masterchefs
One of my top 10 , I got into it more after a few listens to all the pieces of their puzzle~ when Saiki says 'kurukuru mawashite' meaning 'spin around 'or 'mix in circular motion' the instruments do exactly that. So cool~
I really liked this reaction. This is a solid, high quality, well performed song, and that's how you reacted. No fawning about it being amazing for fear of pissing off the fanbase. Thank you.
GG do you want me to comment or not in case you know who comes along. Hang on i am commenting so i'll say it's a solid rocker a Saiki's eye make up was her best ever :)
My favorite aspect of this song is the bracketing. The central choruses are relatively constrained in their chord structure, but the final chorus opens up wider by using the opening chord run. Akane goes a little more staccato toward the end, again mirroring the beginning. On paper it just seems like a rote exercise, but their execution is so engaging that it feels like the song is constantly turning in a new direction.
Great as always!! I think this song was before Saiki had her polyp surgery. She has a shady voice which is not bad at all, but her voice is much brighter and clearer now. And Kanami is with a non-PRS (addictone?), which tells me the song is from their earlier era. I am a noob fan of Band-Maid, so their history is divided into non-PRS era and with-PRS era for me.
Most fans refer to their early music by referencing the "tiny hat". The 'tiny hat' was originally worn by Misa (on one of the Maid in Japan album covers) but quickly moved to Akane who wore it in their early videos and concerts. But it's fine to use Kanami's switch from Addictone to PRS, or Miku's switch from Rickenbacker to Zemaitis. You know it is early footage if Misa and Saiki are in their maid uniforms. I'm guessing you're also a Van Halen fan by your screen name. RIP Eddy
god dammit its my favorite so powerful... the harmony of kanamis guitar int he chorus is totally insane saiki also sings throughout in a lower register so its fantastic
This is my favorite Band Maid song. This and onset. Maybe because those were my first Band Maid song. Oh and the guitar battle between Misa and Kinami on choose me. I wish they still did that.
I'd say that quality of nostalgia that you mention through Saiki's vocal choices is a reflection of them being as true to their natures as it is about the actual fruits of the craft. Me and a friend, who carries notable musical credentials, have discussions almost every Thursday about the nature of bands and the notion that if you took any band member out then the band could technically continue, but what came out wouldn't be the same, on more levels than may generally be appreciated. If you'd taken Brian May out of Queen, or Mitch Mitchell out of Jimi Hendrix Experience, things would just be off.. So too I feel with Band Maid, and that's when you know you're looking and listening to a true band. Incidentally the YOLO single has two brilliant tracks on it that are not found elsewhere - "Matchless Gum", on which Saiki pours some serious silk.. lovely vibe to it, and "Unfair Game", otherwise known to me as the song which starts with one of Akane's most thunderous floor tom hits ever, captured beautifully.
YES, the CD single is great...love Matchless Gum especially. Also I like to alternate Yolo instrumental to hear deeper into the mix...then get Saiki back on it. I'm listening to Unfair Game again now because I've not memorised it well enough :-)
I find this MV interesting gear wise because we have Miku with her Zemaitis but Kanami still has her Addictone. So its a short period where Miku has upgraded from her Rickenbacker but Kanami hasn't yet picked up the PRS. Completely pointless observation but i thought it neat.
I have a feeling Miku was the first to be sponsored!....now that's crazy when you think of the talent surrounding her...Just shows how much hard work she's put in to learning to play and getting herself and the band noticed that Zemaitis gave her such an accolade.....Go Miku!!🥰
I can't help myself, but for me it is together with Daydreaming their best song. I mean, sometimes I liek one of their songs supermuch, but I always come back to Yolo. Some say it is to commercial and to mainstream. Maybe and so what? It is always funny if a band is accused to be commercial....yes they make their money with their music. And in case of Band-Maid...with the last album they proofed, that they are far away from only beeing mainstream and commercial.
I believe in an interview that if Alone hadn't been approved then Yolo would have been their first written published song. Not one of my favorite BM songs but it is a very good song. Totally agree about Saiki.
They're awesome. I've got all 5 concerts that I'm aware of...discovered them last summer but feel like I've been to gigs during the pandemic :-) Which one are you missing? I need to watch them all again as I can't remember if I have a favourite...each show has it's own charms...all bloody good.
@@Mojje42 I'm keen to know if there's any I don't know about. There's 1) DVD concert with Limited Daydreaming CD Single (Just Bring It album pre-release concert), 2) 'Studio Coast' concert with Limited World Domination album, 3) 'Zepp' concert with Limited Start Over CD single, 4) 'Line Cube' World Domination Tour and 5) Recent 'OKYU-JI' release. Which have you got?
Good reaction as always - AND ... Band-Maid have dropped a pair of videos from their most recent paid live video concert just yesterday: Manners and (yes!) Black Hole. ua-cam.com/video/iaf94nNSRGE/v-deo.html They did YOLO in that concert too and it comes up well live. Like you said - I don't listen to it every time I get the blu-ray out but it's a worthy inclusion.
I know others have told you that they just released Manners and Black Hole on one video from their online concert. I loved Manners from their MV, but this version is even better. Akane and Misa do an intro that will just knock your socks off. So good!
I have the instrumental on the CD single...I find it addictive to alternate. Hear deeper into the mix...then bring Saiki back again. great song. Is 'Matchless Gum' also on Spotify?
Cool track. I love listening to the instrumental first (on CD single) and then listen again with the full Saiki/Miku hit. YES...the second verse thing they do...FIRE!! The intense guitar solo section before the vocal breakdown...gives me real Alex/Neil/Geddy vibes. Fantastic. Oh yeah...Queen Saiki worship is called-for here :-)
Considering this excellent music video and two brilliant live versions ... it took you too long to react to one of Band-Maid's best songs... in fact this was the closing song in their first live DVD.👍
One of the best. Top 5 for me Got to check the MAIKO version too ... :-D ...AND "Don't You Tell Me" official music video for yet another one where Saiki looks is ... well ... I got Saiki screenshots from that video all over my iWatch.
3:00 OMG TRUE... I almost felt paranoid about this when noone mentions this. Especially Real Existence is kinda driving me insane with this. That track sounds SO Familiar to me as if I heard a similar song, yet I could never find another track like that
"Killer Kanines" for sure.....know what you mean. And to think Band Maid is even BETTER now that Miku is up on the pipe with her playing today because this tune is what...five years old now? Nice to come back to these older tunes, sure miss Akane's Little Hat......actually MISA's
I think Saiki's pronounced canines (vampire teeth) make her even hotter. I'm glad she is not in a K-pop group, they would probably force her to "fix" her teeth. She doesn't smile in a lot of photos so she may be a little self-conscience of it. I'm sure she won't have a problem finding a boyfriend, although they might have to fight Kanami for her.
Hey Champ, I know you're probably aware of this already, but Dreamcatcher is having their comeback this Friday. The title track is called "BEcause" and they did release a teaser video for it earlier today. I'm super excited for it and I'm looking forward to your reaction and review of the song. Thanks!
okay unrelated but i swear every time i discover something and start getting into it, it pops up everywhere. I literally just heard black or white for the first time yesterday and spent all day today watching different performances of it, so when this video started i was just immediately like "what the fuck". But anyways, i was gonna say this wouldve been a great time to throw in another bandmaiko reaction to yolosiosu, but it apparently isnt even on youtube but it is on spotify if you wanna hear the bandmaiko version. Also others have already mentioned it but yes, manners/black hole 2 for one live special was uploaded today and man is it great
There's an instrumental version for this song, together with a B-side song Matchless Gum. I believe there is one more B-side in this single, just can't figure out which one is it.
Unfair Game is the other B-side. For me, Matchless Gum is a top 10 Band-Maid song, maybe even top 5 on a good day. The lead up to and beginning of the solo are just sooo good.
Hey, Champ, I see you have 42 Band-Maid vids, but not "The Non-fiction Days"! Dude, error! hahaha...It's one of their best...and you almost never hear it...Saiki shines a little differently in the Non-fiction Days video! You're gonna kick yourself for not looking at it earlier...
So true about Akane the unsung hero for guitar solos. They really know how to use drums to accent or improve solos compared to other bands that might have the idea that its time for the guitar solo, so the drums just need to get out of the way.
Not sure if you are interested or not, but they did release just the instrumentals of this track on the YOLO EP. Like all of their instrumentals, it really adds quite a bit to the song.
03:30 So what I've thought that I've notice for a while now is..the bass and drums usually provide the rythym... But Kanami, like inthis segment...she lets the guitar and bass go off, the drums switch up as only Akane can do it, and she uses the vocals to provide and maintain that sense of rythym... I thought I've detected that on more than a couple of songs...but then I wonder if it's just they way my brain is processing what I'm hearing... High five to Miku-san for going after Kanami first...lol edit: ditto on the teeth...:) I've been afraid she's gonna change it...lol
I think this song is a little weird because you've got this SOARING vocal melody on the chorus with that yearning feel we know from their ballads but the rest aside from the bridge is just a straight-up banger - only smarter than most groups wpuld do one of course.
A confident, punchy delivery about what is actually a sensitive subject. -It could easily have gone horribly wrong... But the ladies pull it off in their usual effortless style. - Nice-1. Good job.
Apparently the crooked teeth thing is a deliberate beauty trend in Japan. Women go to orthodontists to make their teeth like that instead of straightening them out. So I've heard from the internet, at least.
@@TheChampOfMedium It's called Yaeba. In Saiki's case they are natural (and I read on reddit she was considering getting them straightened but the other members talked her out of it).
@@TheChampOfMedium I’ve known about yaeba teeth for a long time and don’t really consider them cute but not a deal breaker. That was until Saiki, and I unironically think they make her look cuter. A new live video dropped today. Manners live (with a mighty bass intro) and a song I hadn't heard before, Black Hole. ua-cam.com/video/iaf94nNSRGE/v-deo.html
YOLO rocks. Band-Maid had their chops back then and have only gotten better. YOLO is still in the middle of the pack for their most watched MV's. Still beating out some of the new MV's. Band-Maid plays kick ass rock. Peace.
2021 would've been their breakthrough year having their first arena show at budoken until Covid ruined everything. The Maids will be back even stronger in 2022 :)
In South East Asia, those teeth are very desirable. When you smile they poke out just tiny bit they look like fangs. People think it's cool especially with a cool/cold personality like hers. It can look bad if you laugh open mouth tho, so need to learn how to look good with them.

Some say it is to commercial and to mainstream. Maybe and so what? It is always funny if a band is accused to be commercial....yes they make their money with their music.
And in case of Band-Maid...with the last album they proofed, that they are far away from only beeing mainstream and commercial.
一番好きなBAND-MAIDの曲のリアクションをしてくれてありがとうございます。八重歯いいですよね。
I believe in an interview that if Alone hadn't been approved then Yolo would have been their first written published song. Not one of my favorite BM songs but it is a very good song.
Totally agree about Saiki.
This is before Kanami got her sponsorship from PRS, she was playing an Addictone guitar!
You have to watch the Herman Li, Miku and Kanami, performance of No Holding Back.
Bandmaid is just Amazing
They're awesome. I've got all 5 concerts that I'm aware of...discovered them last summer but feel like I've been to gigs during the pandemic :-) Which one are you missing? I need to watch them all again as I can't remember if I have a favourite...each show has it's own charms...all bloody good.
@@philproffitt8363 no idea which or if i'm missing one.... just been buying as i see it available in their store
yeah Amazing group with great songs
@@Mojje42 I'm keen to know if there's any I don't know about. There's 1) DVD concert with Limited Daydreaming CD Single (Just Bring It album pre-release concert), 2) 'Studio Coast' concert with Limited World Domination album, 3) 'Zepp' concert with Limited Start Over CD single, 4) 'Line Cube' World Domination Tour and 5) Recent 'OKYU-JI' release. Which have you got?
@@philproffitt8363 i have 2-5 missing #1
@@Mojje42 It's definitely worth tracking down.
Good reaction as always -
AND ... Band-Maid have dropped a pair of videos from their most recent paid live video concert just yesterday: Manners and (yes!) Black Hole.
ua-cam.com/video/iaf94nNSRGE/v-deo.html
They did YOLO in that concert too and it comes up well live.
So good!
Originally released as a single, there is an instrumental version of YOLO, you can find it on Spotify.
I have the instrumental on the CD single...I find it addictive to alternate. Hear deeper into the mix...then bring Saiki back again. great song. Is 'Matchless Gum' also on Spotify?
@@philproffitt8363 Yes, both matchless GUM and Unfair game are on Spotify as well.
There's a Band-Maiko version of this song on Spotify.
there’s hot…and then there’s saiki hot, which is just on an entire different and heightened level of attractiveness
This is their ROOTS! I hope they get BACK to it...
You still got some great MVs you haven’t touched, non-fiction days might be one of my favorites that they didn’t write
.....and Choose Me
Choose me and non-fiction days are in the request list with many other mv's. The dragon cries won this weeks poll, so lots more BM on the way 👍
Saiki is also an instrument. Her teeth are considered beautiful in japan.
One of the best. Top 5 for me
Got to check the MAIKO version too ...
Thnx Champ.... #BandMaid
In a guitar battle? Most of them will got destroyed in seconds, haha
Great reaction vid! and 9:29 Totally agree!!!!
I know where you are coming from.... I feel the same about Miku as you feel about Saiki......... Just melts my heart !!
Hey Champ, I know you're probably aware of this already, but Dreamcatcher is having their comeback this Friday. The title track is called "BEcause" and they did release a teaser video for it earlier today. I'm super excited for it and I'm looking forward to your reaction and review of the song. Thanks!
Finally, you react, nice, now non fiction days is the next.
okay unrelated but i swear every time i discover something and start getting into it, it pops up everywhere.
I know what part of my brain Saiki is accessing and it has very little to do with her singing. 😍
Not sure if you are interested or not, but they did release just the instrumentals of this track on the YOLO EP. Like all of their instrumentals, it really adds quite a bit to the song.
i think that Saiki is even more beautiful outside the band yep yep c-ya
03:30 So what I've thought that I've notice for a while now is..the bass and drums usually provide the rythym... But Kanami, like inthis segment...she lets the guitar and bass go off, the drums switch up as only Akane can do it, and she uses the vocals to provide and maintain that sense of rythym... I thought I've detected that on more than a couple of songs...but then I wonder if it's just they way my brain is processing what I'm hearing... High five to Miku-san for going after Kanami first...lol edit: ditto on the teeth...:) I've been afraid she's gonna change it...lol
Step one accomplished.
Yolo is a great song. All about that hesitancy before going on a date, i believe. -
MISA was doing some cool stuff on the bass. Might have mentioned that ?
Saiki is beyond hot she's beautiful
Teeth like that , are sexy in Japan , I;ve heard . So Saiki Is still out of reach . Yea like thats what it . She is .... WOW !!!
- Nice-1. Good job.
Dude, i love PRS, but sometimes i miss this Addictone's guitar sound played by Kanami!
You Only Live Once...YOLO
Apparently the crooked teeth thing is a deliberate beauty trend in Japan. Women go to orthodontists to make their teeth like that instead of straightening them out.
So I've heard from the internet, at least.
idk man im kinda into it shes cute af
yaeba teeth
@@TheChampOfMedium It's called Yaeba. In Saiki's case they are natural (and I read on reddit she was considering getting them straightened but the other members talked her out of it).
@@TheChampOfMedium Well, yeah, nobody's gonna deny that.
@@TheChampOfMedium I’ve known about yaeba teeth for a long time and don’t really consider them cute but not a deal breaker. That was until Saiki, and I unironically think they make her look cuter. I think maybe if she’s showing it she’s usually smiling cuz when she does her icy death scares it scares me lol
I just wish her canines were a little bit longer. Saiki could totally vamp it up.
A new live video dropped today. Manners live (with a mighty bass intro) and a song I hadn't heard before, Black Hole.
ua-cam.com/video/iaf94nNSRGE/v-deo.html
i love this song. that lead-in to the bridge towards the end activates something in Android Auto tho.. which cuts out the music.. so that sucks
MISA!!! MISA!!! MISA!!! 🥃🥃🥃
Bro you need to check right now the new live versions of manners and black hole.
I kinda miss the "not loud enough".
I see what you did there
In South East Asia, those teeth are very desirable. When you smile they poke out just tiny bit they look like fangs. People think it's cool especially with a cool/cold personality like hers. It can look bad if you laugh open mouth tho, so need to learn how to look good with them.
Hi , I always follow you and especially the reactions you do for Maid, I simply love them they are truly phenomenal and live even better..... I recommend "The Not Fiction day" as your next video. I see that you also follow K-Pop, I recommend The queen Miss Chungha.... Maid For Ever
The non-fiction days is in the request list 👍 Do you have a song recommendation for Chungha?
@@tinaaikaa77 gotta go Chungha
