"Unseen World" refers to the band's future. The style of the tracks was intentionally split between their hard rock past and their fast tempo, more technical future. "Manners" was the last track recorded and meant to be a bridge between the two styles. The lyrics feature references to their past challenges and their commitment to future success. Thanks for the reaction!
When you get there... the online okyuji version of "Manners/Black Hole" is special in it's own right. Our rock never dies ever! Forever!

The same band that created the tracks on "Unleash" also created "Memorable". I thought they had left me behind when the EP came out, since then I've caught up. From now on, pun intended, I'm going to trust them. I'm very curious to see what's next.

MISA still drinks Johnny Walker as well. She starts her "Opening Ceremony" with opening a beer. MISA is right up there with John Entwistle who also played a fantastic bass guitar and stayed in the background.
MISA plays with a pick and slaps in the same song and changes from one to the other very quickly!
From a radio interview - - (Chris): What amazed me most about your play style is the changing of picking to slapping, and then picking again so smoothly. Some bassists may throw their picks away to slap, but you use the same pick when you change from slapping to picking again, right?
(Misa): No, I don't throw my pick away. I have become better as I practiced. For the recent 2-3 years, I haven't lost any pick.
    (Chris): Show me how.
(Misa): I keep the pick with my index finger and palm.
(Chris): Then you slap the bass with your thumb and middle finger? Can you show me how you play? (then Misa shows how)
(Misa): Because I've been practicing these days, I can change faster than ever.
(Chris): You are mixing them up! That's awesome!
(Misa): I think anybody can do it if you practice.
Misa - BASS GUITAR plays Black Cloud "Smoker" and Privat Reserve (SG Style) bass - Orange AB200B MKIII Amps
When you watch Domination - replay it slowly and you will see MISA switch exactly as she explained it in the interview.

And then he reacts to Joelma in his solo career live in the Amazônia in 2022 (Block 1 and Block 2). She is considered the greatest performer in Brazil, and one of the few who don't use playback, her face is swollen because she contracted Covid 4 times and her blood was clotting, but even so she managed to record this DVD, like almost 50 years.

Kanami has talked about her influence for Manners, she said she analysed all the Grammy winners that year and composed Manners based on her findings - her brain works on a different level to normal humans. In general they have many influences Larry Carlton and jazz generally I think, Carlos Santana, Hendrix, Deep Purple, Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies, Slipknot, Maximum The Hormone, Tokyo Jihen / Sheena Ringo, Lo-Fi, Hip Hop etc etc. Saiki and Miku recently mentioned in an interview that they like Foo Fighters (Saiki) and Korn! (Miku) and as various members of Slipknot and Incubus are fans of Band Maid I'm sure the feelings are mutual. Tony Visconti is also a big fan and produced one song of theirs - The Dragon Cries.

Band-Maid had been influenced by...miriads of bands from different eras, not just rock bands, metal, jazz, punk, funk, grunge, prog you name it.
They released a song called Dragon Cries directed by Tony Visconti in 2019 Conqueror album. Most fans didn't like it, Tony Visconti advised them to make it more simple, I guess. They took his advice, then added their flavour and colours. Manners and Flying High both have classic rock vibe.

The music is the genius that is Kanami- (Lead Guitar). The Lyrics are the genius that is Miku- (Backing Vocals/Rhythm Guitar). She does play some lead fills. Misa- (Bass) plays barefoot. This the only song that mentions the Unseen World album by name as there is no title track as such. Great reaction guys.

Kanami-sama is a maestro composer - much as I love Mozart's skiils in creating complicated compositions for quintets and quartets, she does it even better! Miku's lyrics too have a depth equal to that of Dylan and Lennon-McCartney. That's just my slightly subjective opinion...but it's objectively true too! Hopefully they'll be visiting the UK and maybe even Wales (Babymetal were here in Cardiff last month so I live in hope) next year.

MISA seems dark and mysterious and her on stage beverage of choice was Whiskey for yrs. Saiki and Miku mentioned that MISA is the most pure Maid in her silly sense of humor. She laughs at juvenile humor like a grade school kid. Her quietude stems from an early move in her childhood to a urban setting from the country. She was very shy about her accent.

  • @surfingasongwave

*Unseen World* was the album they release in 2021 and it is brilliant. They released three MVs for it; *Manners* was one, along with *Warning!* and *After Life.* All of them are really good, and all of them somewhat different from each other. The album is sort of divided into "hard rock" of their first few albums, and "prog punk" or whatever you'd call their newer styles. Songs like *Chemical Reaction* and *Manners* are very much in the first category, and *Giovanni* and *Black Hole* are very much in the later. In my opinion, it is a musical masterpiece.
MISA has a definite '90s alt rock/grunge style. That's what she listened to a lot as a kid, and the band she joined in high school, "Prototype," (the reason she switched to bass) played a lot of that style of music. She was self-conscious about her accent after her family moved to Tokyo, and maybe with her height too. She might have had trouble with stage fright and used alcohol to give herself liquid courage. Miku says she plays better after a couple of drinks - she gets more relaxed and groovier. She's eased off since 2020; beer not whiskey.

Your listening to Kanami's genius. She is such a creative arranger. They just don't have a bad song. She does try to stick to a formula. Choruses are always up tempo, melodic and singable even on their most heaviest tracks. The second verse has variation to the first to keep us engaged. The end riff is usually the same as the first riff. Also there are many occasions where Saiki's vocals end on the same note that the guitar solo begins and then starts on the same note as the guitar solo ends giving us a seamless transition. Many others will say you should check out the live version of this which was released as a double video along with Black Hole (their fastest song to date at 220bpm). I would wholeheartedly agree even though it would mean repeating a reaction you do need to do it. Enjoy !

There is NO BAD SONG from Band Maid. I call their music pan-rock era. From their earliest releases, their sounds vary from pop-ish, punk, to hard rock, they do it so well. I suggest you catch up on where they are now with new live music videos of previously recorded song from earlier albums. The official live videos "Puzzle" and "No God" performed at the Tokyo Rose Garden Theatre in May are absolutel hard rock bangers. Band Maid deserves the big stages with big light show and big sound. These two videos will show you what I mean.

Okay, you asked for it. BAND-MAIDs influences are Rock, Punk, Funk, Power Pop, Metal, Classical, Traditional & Jazz etc . . . Or to get more specific MISA likes Hendrix, Smashing Pumpkin and The Pixies. Kanami's influences include Santana and Deep Purple. Akane likes Maximum The Hormone. Miku likes Sheena Ringo. In other words, they are all over the map! Actually, MISA prefers Scotch. But on their first tour she drank a bit too much and switched to beer when working. She does a little Opening Ceremony when she cracks open her beer. But she does not subscribe to the Bass Mantra that there's no money above the 5th Fret.

this song is literally a "Mission Statement" or manifesto, from Miku, about the growth and future of the band. Overcoming difficulties, evolving their sound, etc. And Warning followed up as just that... a Warning to anyone that wanted to try to tell them what to do, from the fans to the labels, nobody decides Band-Maid's future.... except Band-Maid. And that future... is World Domination.

“They write songs with a unique character to every single one of them”
“Miku: Tokyo Jihen and Sheena Ringo was the pivotal artist that lit her fire
Kanami: Santana and Larry Carlton (Room 335 specifically)

For musical influences they have a ton. As for Japan's music scene it is massive by itself due to population, economy and history. A few examples of why below.
Japan is the 3rd largest economy (about equal to the 4th and 5th combined Germany and UK) and the second largest music market (in terms of money) in the world by far.
Japan has always had a large population and was not conquered until WW2 which let it develop a very distinct and unique culture, in music one way it can be heard is in the style of vibrato of singers, especially traditional female vocals.

I love watching Misa sweep thru two octaves on the bass. This seems like such a simple three chord mixolydian progression but then you get some cromatic licks, grindy bass up and down the neck and couple that with 16th note double kick patterns throughout the chorus and suddenly it's a beast of its own. So groovy.

I’m a huge fan of Misa’s bass tone. Even in their live shows it’s so tasty. She’s also a phenomenal bassist. Last I read she was using a custom Black Cloud 5 string bass through an Orange 4-stroke 300 or an AD 200 MK3 and 1x15 orange cabs. She also sometimes plays a Fender American Jazz and an Ernie Ball Musicman. Her pedal board is like 4 pedals, a boss tuner, an electro-harmonix Soul Food pedal, a pete Cornish p-1 fuzz/distortion and I don’t remember what the other was. A wah or volume pedal I think. All run through an MXR EQ on the board.
She’s likely upgraded the board but she still plays that dark cloud bass. It’s the matte black one.
    Ugh, so good.
