BAND-MAID is a case where professionals can better understand its awesomeness and wonderfulness. Especially if you're a music producer, you'll be listening and predicting the next development and spread, but the results are always higher than you expected, and it's making an impact.
These women write the lyrics, music and produce all their songs. What’s amazing is not only are the all incredible musicians but somehow through the sound, texture and subtle nuances you still can understand the feeling of the song without understanding the language. Simply brilliant!!!
Since they were formed in 2013, they've written about half the songs they have recorded. Originally the record label chose the songs for them, only gradually (starting with Alone) were they allowed to use their own songs. That's how Japanese labels usually work with new bands.
Both MISA (Bass) and Akane (drums) attended the same music school! Both are highly skilled in their craft! The best rhythm section in rock today, very tight!!
You should really checkout their live music. Since your a bassist you should like _(Play (Live), Don't you tell ME (Live))_ also suggest _(Puzzle(Live) and Moratorium (Live))_

@@keithvincent4 Not by any objective measure. The Beatles have sold way more records than anyone by a 6 to 1 margin. And they held the number one through five songs on the Billboard Top Ten with three other songs in the Top 100. And 22 (23 in England) number one songs and two more that peaked at number two only because a Beatle song was number one. Might mention the cultural change or even being a major reason the USSR failed. Not too shabby. So, objectively speaking the facts don't support you. Band-Maid is my second favorite band of all time and who knows maybe one day Tono-Kobato will rival Lennon-McCartney. I hope so. But that day is a little while off yet.

YOLO either the county between Sacramento County and Alameda County here in NorCal or You Only Live Once. You won't hear those words in the song but that is the message. And it is certainly a Miku message as are all of her songs.
The lyrics of this song are really good!
Kanami does add extra tracks, even in the Demos, and sometimes they're keyboard tracks. You can hear them especially in the 'Accidents' video with something breaks. But they've had the computer get lost with the baggage before and it doesn't show up in time for the show. But they can play without it. They just rearrange the set list and go on with the show. They still sound as big as a House! It's just a smaller house.
On some songs (even live) they do have a backing track supplementing their sound, but the pre-recorded part is still played by Kanami. Sometimes it's Kanami on keyboards for an intro, but other times it's a third guitar part. You can tell this most easily in Onset, where Kanami's tapping, Miku's playing her low crunch, and a third guitar covers some high and clean notes that should be impossible for either of them to do live. Tabs (unofficial, of course) for their songs often show three guitar parts plus bass, but most of the time the third part doesn't overlap with the first part.
You are right. The only music you have ever heard from Band-Maid that was not made by Band-Maid in concert or on CD are the artists who played traditional Japanese musical instruments on Band-Maiko songs. Everyone knows how difficult it can be to replicate your sound live. These women do that so well most folks will prefer their live performances. The only time l see that changing is when the eventual Band-Maid! Live at Nippon Budokan! Album comes out. Concerts are concerts and prerecorded music is prerecorded music. Please consider the two on their own merits otherwise one is comparing apples with oranges. Peace.
MISA MISA MISA! I think their most underrated and versatile song, even I always overlook it for my top 10, then I'll hear it again and wonder WHY. There is this version an instrumental ver (came out with the single as a B side), Band-Maiko ripped it off and they do an Acoustic version.
You know those ladies in Band-Maiko. If it isn't nailed down it will probably be gone. Band-Maid is still waiting for their first royalties check. ;-)
I guess Band-Maiko thought Band-Maid did musical arrangements gratis. He,he,he,he!

FYI - Akane the drummer is formally trained at a music school. She was taught the proper posture, hand placement and wrist technique that formally trained Japanese drummers use. Early in training they will actually tie string around the wrists to suspend them at the right height. Misa the bass player is also formally trained at a music school. Kanami the lead guitarist was trained as a child to be a classical musician. She did not continue this in secondary school, but rather went to a regular liberal arts school. She picked up the guitar as a hobby, took lessons, and eventually joined bands. Miku the rhythm guitarist, backup singer, and group founder was a child idol singer.
believe me you are going to love the off vocal version of this song, the bass line of Misa in this song is fabulous

"TURN ME ON(Live)" The introduction of MISA's play is amazing! "ONSET(Live or MV)" MASTERPIECE! This is the instrumental number. Solo plays are nice!

Now... most of these girls have higher music education. Then i'm thinking about Misa, Akane and Kanami who are the soul-creator of their sound.

I hear you. These 3 are stellar musicians and have so much chemistry as to sound like a single instrument. BM's songs - though varying widely in sound - are incredibly cohesive. Kanami is the primary magician behind this, as she composes the songs and fits the member's individual contributions into the overall whole. In this song's (Yolo) case, Kanami had written it prior to joining BM. She recently said that after she sends the basic composition of a new song out to Misa and Akana, Misa will then do all her own arrangements for bass (I assume Akane does the same for drums). Kanami will then fit everything together and iron out sounds that clash - thus the cohesiveness.
They play themselves. Also they make songs themselves. No fake at all. Go see them at a concert. It'll prove it.
Akane is the hardest hitting drummer of all female drummers. And the backing vocals come from Miku the Riff guitarist.

There are plenty of live Band Maid videos on YT, lifted from DVD's. They have been post produced but the sound is so good and they play so well live. If you have time, trawl through some Band Maid fan cams as there are some with good audio. You may have a license to show videos but if not, be warned. YT fair use policy is totally irrelevant when it comes to Japanese artists as the Japanese labels join a company that actively pursues copyright breaches on the record labels behalf. Many You Tubers get caught out, some even a year after the reaction video has been uploaded, with strikes and blocks.
Which has started me to question what's in their contract. (1) Reaction Videos = FREE Advertising, as YT doesn't allow the reactor monetization from the music...WHAT part os FREE flies by the Company's 'number crunchers'. I only "found" them a few months back-ON A REACTION CHANNEL. I bought the "Conqueror" CD-evidently a smokin' deal @ $11.07 plus shipping, as EVERY other CD including the same title, could only be bought from Japan at prices ranging from $29 to nearly $130, and most were "out of stock"...which brings me to (2)WHY doesn't their company have distribution contracts in the EU, NA, SA, AU, and AFR ? Don't they WANT to sell Merch? I really WANT these ladies to SUCCEED-they DESERVE to. Someone needs to help their business end!
Yolo is my Favorite Band Maid Song it just has soo muuch Energy and some of Kanami s Best Guitar Playing and some of Saiki s Best Vocals
and Lets also not forget the amazing drumming of Akane and the Bass Playing of Misa Best Rythem section on earth.

I heard that Japanese Labels do not like that much going out of Japan. Don't know if it is true or not. If it is true, I do also not understand that. The world got to hear the music of this incredibel Ladies.
