t's a shame it wasn't remembered more for his voice. It was beautiful.
What a great voice
He was great in the hilarious 'It ain't half hot mum ',but I got such a surprise when I first heard him sing. I was not expecting that voice to come out of him
Alan, I remember seeing Don in the Market gates shopping moll at Great Yarmouth, he was selling his tapes from a stall, I really could not believe what I had seen, a man with such a lovely voice trying to sell his tapes to make a few quid, I felt quite sad !
A very funny man with the voice of angel. I loved watching him and listening to him sing.R.I.P. Don🙏💖😇

Hi alan, brilliant video, i used to watch don and windsor in it ain't half hot mum, made me laugh loads, and i too remember the song whispering grass, i was 8 years old when that came out... have u ever consodered doing a video on barry chuckle?.
I was so lucky when I was a little girl age 10 on a family holiday to Jersey we went to a cabaret at a place called Water Splash where Windsor Davis & Don Estelle were the star act. I was seated at a table one side of the aisle where they were walking through & performing. Don Estelle stopped in the aisle & sang to me close up, it was a lovely thing for a little girl to remember all of her life & he was, such a talented singer. Thank you for that Don Estelle 💙

Hi Alan , thank you for sharing your videos. Really enjoy them.
Thank you very much dawn
He still lives everyday on my TV as I watch 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum' . This week (20/8/2024) it's announced John Clegg (Gunner Graham) has sadly died aged 90. Thanks for an emotional tribute.
Thanks Alan, and you have done it again , a video who a great actor I met and worked with on It Ain’t half hot mum when I was at the BBC as a dresser in 1980/81.
Great show and it was a very happy show to work on all lovely actors and it was a happy crew because it was utterly professional and they all got on. Windsor was a lovely guy and Melvern , all of them. Don was lovely and very unassuming and didn’t like any fuss. Brings back memories of a happy time of my life and looking back to have been a part of television history. As you may well know the BBC TV centre at white city had many studios and every studio was busy 7days a week . It was thriving . Great show and it’s like a personal goodbye when you show some of these actors I have met in my TV work.
Thanks great work ❤
How fantastic John to have all those memories and to work on some of these iconic shows. It's always great to see the people in real life. I bet you could tell quite a few stories 🤣 I worked as an electrician on the film in 1999 and became an extra because of the agent being on the set. You can have some unusual and interesting days for sure. Maybe one day we'll speak. That would be fun. Take care of yourself. Hope to see you on the next one. Alan
I met Don Estelle when I was a teenager. He was promoting his latest album, and singing live in Woolworths. I got his autograph on the back of a Woolworths paper bag. I loved his whispering grass song x
Hi Liesl well done for your meetup. Wasn't he a wonderful voice? It just didn't look the part of the leading singer. Did he and people are so obsessed by looks? It probably ended his career which is a shame. Thank you for the comment. Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep indeed... you're right 👍
Whispering grass the trees don’t need to know Bub Bub a Bub Bub ...
I was directing Don in a play in 2001 when he had to withdraw for health reasons. I attended the funeral, and became friends with Sheila and Philip, Don's children. It's nice to see the headstone. Thanks for the great videos and memories, Alan.
I absolutely love Don Estelle fantastic voice and brilliant actor a lovely man.
I remember him and Windsor Davies coming out of Blackpool tower and going into what was Woolworths store under the tower, and I was with my mum and late father and we saw them both and said hello I will always remember them both, been such nice lovely sociable guys , who had time for my folks aww treasured memories of my childhood ❤️🙂🙏

Alan, I can feel your emotions! You are very sensitive about the great people that gave the world their talents. Don was wonderful! There is no talent like that today on TV. from Scotland

This got to this one Alan I could see it was sad I loved him and Windsor Davies they made a good double act beautiful singing voices and a very beautiful place thankyou Alan ❤️😊👍🏻
The only thing I found really said was that he had such a beautiful voice and it ended up in shopping precincts singing. He never really got recognized probably because of his looks which is such a pity, but thank you! Crystal, you are my gem!
Didn’t realise he was so close to me I’m in the next town but need to go give my respect
Its a great thing your doing I saw Don in my local Coop singing to backing tapes He stood alone and sang a lot of shoppers took little notice I felt sad when i saw him RIP Lofty x
Thank you ever so much for that fantastic comment. But what a sad story. Maybe it was later on when Don wasn't acting so much but he had the amazing voice

Hey Alan great post this .. don was a wonderful singer what a voice ..... Did you remember that request grave I ask for few weeks ago Freddie' Starr please
Hello Andy, no, I have not forgotten and it was a very good suggestion. I've looked into it and it says that there's no headstone but I'm going to head and see. If it's true and try to find out the actual spot with his mother even if no headstone. I'm in Machester tonight so just for you I go there this weekend so watch this space ahahah. Glad you enjoyed Don Estelle a great sing
In that clip of him admitting he was the drummer, it looks like he was cracking up with laughter.
He was you right looks like they had fun filming
Another Rochdale resident. It’s given many over the years.
Great
Met Don Estelle a couple of times he was lovely. Went to his funeral at St. chads Rochdale. We didn't go inside though. Alan, I have left you a personal message on your facebook account.
Hello Julie, I've been locked out of Facebook for quite a long time so I would have seen the message. If you want to send me anything reply to this. But thank you for your personal recollections that's really nice. Regards, alan
I tried to reply to your message, Alan, but it said address not recognised, so I sent it to messages on here. I hope you get this one, if you don't. I would still like to send it to you. I can't post it on here.
@@julieroberts9127Hello Julie I did see the message I am not sure on what platform now but I can't seem to find it now don't ask me why. If you send me a text message to my mobile or ring 07813779273 I'll get back to you but I do remember Yvonne very well she was my next-door neighbour as a kid and she's right I did work with Uri Geller for a few years and Sir Roger Moore. Hope to hear from you and thank you, Alan
Top class presentation.
Peter you are kind Thank you Alan
My first proper girlfriend bought the Whispering grass single as a joke in 1975. Every time I hear it now it reminds of young love. I still have a soft spot for you Chrissy. ❤
How sweet!
