Two-time Academy Award®--winner Emma Thompson and fellow double Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks top line Disney's "Saving Mr. Banks," inspired by the extraordinary, untold story of how Disney's classic "Mary Poppins" made it to the screen.
When Walt Disney's daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers' "Mary Poppins," he made them a promise-one that he didn't realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney's plans for the adaptation.
For those two short weeks in 1961, Walt Disney pulls out all the stops. Armed with imaginative storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the prickly author doesn't budge. He soon begins to watch helplessly as Travers becomes increasingly immovable and the rights begin to move further away from his grasp.
It is only when he reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about the ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history. - Фільми й анімація

This movie moved me so much. I was literally shocked at how well Tom Hank's portrayed one of my fellow Missourian heroes, Walt Disney. See this movie and feel the magic of Walt Disney.
This "behind the scenes" clip puts a tear in my eye...I absolutely admire the Sherman Brothers for composing such a beautiful, timeless score.

Saving Mr Banks is one of my most favorite films ever as it feel so damn complete. It covers all the bases and each one with quality such as the music and the nostalgia it brings from the old film, watching it be reborn.

Tom Hanks plays Walt so well and I loved this movie so much because I loved Mary Poppins.

I agree with Emma Thompson that I never tire of hearing Let’s go Fly a Kite. And I have to put in a word for her “sister song” from Mary Poppins Returns, Nowhere To Go But Up. It’s also a great song that is “uplifting.”
Great movie, brings back so much fond memories when I was a child and saw Mary Poppins. Let's fly a kite is indeed a moving song from a lyrics perspective as well as the music - uplifting at any time and a bit melancholic at the same time. Thank you.

People complain about Disneyland being so expensive. It's true, it is. But I think for me, even if I only make it there once in 5 years or so, experiencing the magic is so worth it. The last time we were there, the band came out dressed in different colored uniforms playing a song from Mary Poppins, and they were riding the merry-go-round. As a middle-aged guy that was such a cool thing to see.
Tom Hanks' portrayal of Walt Disney is probably the most accurate, I think. Of course, we won't ever know for sure how the man really was, but I think that what Tom did might be very close.

I have already called my local theater to ask when Saving Mr. Banks shows.I still know every word to every song. The Boys are beyond compare. Love Walt Disney and miss him. The world needs Walt. After the movie I make plans to go to Disneyland & Disney World again.

Merry Poppins was one of the first movies I saw as a child in a drive in movie. The other one was The jungle book the first movie I saw was Flipper. I still love them too this day and you just have to singalong

My favorite Disney movie up until I was 10 almost 11 was Sleeping Beauty. A month before my 11th birthday, The Little Mermaid was released and that became the favorite until Aladdin, which was then replaced by the Lion King, which is the permanent favorite of all time. Disney has yet to surpass the Lion King. The new movies will never even be a comparison because of the animation. I liked Frozen and Zootopia and everything, but their animation style is a cop out compared to the hand drawn style of the 20th century.
La Kellita La Kellita Lion King was excellent. But, there have been so many really good movies. I guess my favorite would have to be Beauty and the Beast, mainly for the groundbreaking special effects at the time. But more recently my favorite is Finding Nemo, because we took my son to go see it who was only two at the time and because of the Father and Son relationship in the movie it was very emotional for me.
