- Classic callbacks in modern Who episodes featuring Sarah Jane, and in her spinoff.
The material in this video belongs to the BBC. This is a fair use edit.
Imagine being such a legendary compantion that not only do you get your own show, but instead of being a guest for the Doctor, the Doctor is YOUR guest. Sarah Jane Smith really was something.
Not even Torchwood had the Doctor as a guest
He is only guest for the greatest
When Doctor Who's continuity is on point: Sarah Jane's Adventures 16.12.23 1413PM i never saw this. was it for CBBC TV??????????? the dr induces orgasms it would seem...
Yeah, in fact he was a guest twice.
@@GuarinoPablo We almost did get one from Big Finish but sadly cancelled after the controversy with Barrowman.
@@Storm_Bird456Two separate incarnations of the doctor for each appearance. Sarah Jane was spoiled indeed.
I always love that look in David Tennants eyes in the beginning of the video since you can tell he isn't acting there. He is a small boy meeting one of the first Doctor Who companions he ever saw on TV.
He said, in an interview, that she was a childhood hero.
To be fair, he's also acting. Acting isn't just feeling; it's also craft. Sometimes when we casually say someone wasn't "acting," we're brushing aside the work they did to make it appear so natural.
No he’s definitely acting. He’s just a good actor. They’d have spent days possibly even weeks together before this on location, studio, table read throughs it’s not like it’s the first time they’ve seen each other.
He’s just a good actor
There are some bloopers where you can see that the only acting he's doing in half his scenes with her is to restrain his excitement
ua-cam.com/video/EUp3t-FOFzw/v-deo.html
@@jackal59 very true, I think it’s a mix, he’s remembering all the times he watched her on TV and he’s using it to genuinely smile and act like the Doctor seeing her again, it’s very wholesome
The beautiful and immensely gifted Elisabeth Sladen. It's so sad she's not with us anymore.
Oh no, this makes the episodes three times sadder t
@@avamander. What's the other two times?
Life is like that. Your born, you stay for awhile, and then your dead. 😢
@@ladymecha8718 Well that's depressing.
@@mortal6134 only if you let it be. I do agree some people like Elizabeth Sladen affected so many other lives, and lives to come with her stay. Although I will admit, I may be a little sad too, having just found out jason david frank (the green power ranger) passed away three days ago. Another person who will be missed.
Also in her own show when the slitheen first get mentioned she says she remembers them because of "something a friend said" referring to rose which is just perfect continuity
She even repeats Rose's line: "Slitheen in Downing Street"
She died over a decade ago now but it still upsets me to this day ☹️ wasn’t born when she was in doctor who but she was my childhood in the spin off!!! Iconic not many people can play a character that’s beloved by all generations
Me too.
Same. SJA is such a good show 😢
I'm so glad someone else finally noticed the "Half a dozen times" easter egg.
Sarah Jane was the only person, at least on screen, that the doctor ever told the truth to about how many regenerations he'd had.
Me too
But Honestly I think they forgot about the five doctors so they counted from four but yes it beatifically perfect that line up.
Remember the war doctor wasn’t a thing it came up because Chris didn’t want to come back.
@@lucifersdevilishdetails. Oh I know it was a mistake, but it's a mistake that was accidentally amended, and now serves as an amazing easter egg.
@@lucifersdevilishdetails. because Chris didn’t want to come back and Moffat had the stupid idea that the Eighth Doctor couldn’t be The War Doctor
He told Clara in Time of the Doctor
@@baders087 yeah.... When he told Sarah Jane it was 4 years BEFORE John Hurt had been cast.
And Clara found out, he HAD to tell her. He didnt HAVE to tell Sarah Jane.
I love how when they ask what that thing was on the surface of Mars, Sarah was just like, "trust me, you don't want to know."
When she was arguing with Rose, she should have said “WELL I MET THEIR CREATOR” for the daleks.
I always thought that
I think "Vaporised their emperor and his legions" tops that tbh
Plus Rose also got to meet their creator
I strongly suspect that when he said "half a dozen times since we last met" the writers were counting from Four to Ten without factoring in Sarah Jane's appearance in The Five Doctors or the War Doctor. But if you do it correctly it does work out, so eh... And if there was one companion that he would let on about the War Doctor, Sarah Jane was probably her.
There will never be a companion again like Sarah Jane Smith. She was and is the best of them all in my opinion.
agreed. She is the best companion, and Roger Delgado is the (1st and) best Master.
One of my fave moments in SJA is in the first slitheen episode where she says “slitheen in downing street, something an old friend said to me”
These modern Who callbacks gave me real goosebumps as they recalled not only the classic series history but also my own as I remembered the much younger me watching them as they were first broadcast all those years ago..
Thank you for the nostalgia trip. I grew up with the Adventures of Sarah Jane Smith since it was first aired and watched every single episode right up to the final one. I loved all the Doctor Who references and call backs and of course when the Doctor made an appearance. I was devastated when I heard of Elizabeth’s passing. She was truly a worthy companion that deserved her own spin off series.
Having recently rewatched "the Hand of Fear" and "the Pyramids of Mars" I have reevaluated my opinion of Sarah Jane and have moved her up in my Companion list to nr. 3, after Rose Tyler and Ace. You go girl!
No 1, always.
Sarah Jane Adventures was amazing the people who worked on it genuinely cared and had passion for it.
I would always come home from school and watch The Sarah Jane Adventures. R.I.P you beautiful human.
The ‘half a dozen times since we last met’ thing was probably referring to the 4th Doctor, but your interpretation actually works better lmao
Would have been nice to also have the bit in SJA when she quotes Rose saying "Slitheen in Downing Street"
I wanted to include that but couldn't find a good copy of it
Jon Pertwee and Elizabeth Sladen where the Doctor and assistant in my youth. She was my 1st childhood crush. An absolutely stunning lady who is sadly missed
This could be my comment!
If Carrie Fisher was our queen of space, Elizabeth Sladen was our queen of time.
I miss Elizabeth Sladen
Love how when they wrote "half a dozen times" they were likely referring to the time since the 4th doctor. But with the war doctor coming into the picture, it's actually more accurate as to the time she met the 5th doctor
Liz Sladen is an angel. This is such a beautiful example of a lifetime of stories. Wow, including the War Doctor in the "half a dozen times", that's time travel! SJA was an incredibly charming and inspiring show ❤ Thank you for the work and the tribute
She just did not age. Fabulous actress, sorely missed ❤
Elizabeth Sladen was my first crush as a wee lad all those many years ago. For myself nobody has come close to matching up with Sarah Jane as a companion.
This could be my comment!
i love the david tennant sarah jane cross over a classic moment
I miss Elizabeth Sladen so much :( can’t believe it’s been over 11 years now…
Oh, Sarah Jane... I miss you - and of course, your alter ego, Elizabeth Sladen - so very much!
These are always really cool
Tony Head was so finely oily (He does it so well) as Mr. Finch. Giles, you have changed!
I love that they put sarah Jane adventures back on BBC iPlayer!!
Missed quite a bit when I was younger. Glad to finally watch them.
Had no idea why they put Class on there and SJA was nowhere to be found.
This is how you introduce an old who companion.
I loved the pissing contest between Rose and Sarah Jane about things they saw along with clips from their encounters.
FYI the evil headmaster at the start of the video is played by Anthony Stewart Head. I love him in buffy the vampire slayer.
That beautiful voice is unmistakable, even when it's full of smarm :)
She is truly among stars now
When the Thirteenth Doctor comes round in the TARDIS after fainting in 'Power of the Doctor', Yaz claims that she tried her best to get everyone home but ended up in Croydon. 😅
Got there in the end... The long way round.
I guess the tardis learned where to go eventually
@@haddy106 the TARDIS is quite sassy with its pilot. It's used to a team of pilots!
As an (U.S.) American, my only knowledge of Croydon comes from _Doctor Who_ and Sarah Jane Smith.
Sarah Jane overloaded the memory weave as did Dr. Who (Jodi) with the matrix.
Sarah Jane's character was definitely crafted well-There are other ways to settle things than just with a gun! Learned alot from the Doctor
Having the war and doctor and 9th doctor, see Sarah would have been brilliant
He never forgets his eye widened as soon as he saw her friends across space and time his Sarah jane
The day that Elizabeth Sladen died this 50+ year man cried. She WAS along with Lelia THE companion beyond all companions. And a part of my past
Yep, a show where continuity across decades is a both strength and an asset, unlike other sci fi shows.
You have to love the creativity of the Dr. Who team.
Is Sarah Jane the companion who’s met the most Doctors? I count six: she traveled w 3 and 4, met 2 & 5 in the Five Doctors, and 10 and 11 in new who and SJA.
1 was in The Five Doctors as well, though not with the original actor.
@@PenneySounds how did I forget that??
Clara met the most. Jumped into his timestream. Met every Doctor up to Capaldi.
The Brigadier also met six Doctors, if you count Dimensions in Time.
Sarah Jane was like a sister/cousin to The Doctor.
She was an icon.
God I miss her.
My number one dr who companion
Seriously, f%#k cancer. Elizabeth Sladen was taken from us too soon.
👏🏻 Bravo. This is so well edited and put together. 👏🏻
I also have wondered if Sarah had met the other doctors the wrong way round. A young girl is walking into the old yard of gunk she is about 7 at this moment in time and sees an odd thing in the corner a old police box she goes towards it a voice from the shadows asks her not to touch, the voice also says who are you girl harshly. She replies, saying Sarah Smith. Oh, I think I know you. A old silver haired man comes from the shadows. The girl again asks how. I'm not sure he answers, then a smile appears on his face he then asks we haven't met yet have we? Some years later, that memory comes back to Sarah while her doctor is regenerating an old man she met him twice and forgot the first time, oh dear doctor, I wish you would recall that moment. She meets the tenth, and an old memory happens again she says nothing and reflects on this next adventure and what an adventure they will have continuesly till their meat one last time, all her doctors and her light vades into time, but her doctors will remember Sarah Jane Smith forever..
The Fantastic Mis Smith her adventures go far beyond the tardis into infinity of the memories of millions apon millions of fans old and new and beautiful memories of an incredible actor and wonderful person who gave Sarah Jane Smith that wonderful smile and possibly a sense of adventure and warmth of nature as a reporter and agent of Unite, later mother and guardian of earth, oh our favourite companion you will always Fantastic and bloody marvellous. Thank you for gracing the tardis and television for all those marvellous times, especially then and now in time and space where you will live in our memories our Sarah Jane Smith forever companion.. Pure Grace.
Ventilation shafts, that takes us back. or forward.
Who doesn't love Sarah Jane? Elizabeth Sladen did more than some Doctors to promote the show! One vendor told me she was paid to signature 20 books, and went on to sign more than 80. She fit perfectly with Tom Baker.
I'm so glad they brought Sarah Jane back.
The golden era of doctor who
Great video but I don’t think Sarah would remember the events of the 5 Doctors since it was never mentioned again
You see it in School Reunion the last time she saw the Doctor was the events after Hand
She doesn't remember it, but he does
@@PenneySounds As I say was never mentioned after the Five Doctors
Him remembering it though fits in with the War Doctor since there are six regenerations between 5 and 10
And we know he remembers those events because he remembers taking the High Council Seal from the Master
@@PenneySounds The Doctor may remember but I don’t think Sarah does
Elisabeth Sladen’s Sarah Jane Smith was probably the most important companion that ever was and ever will be. Hands down.
I miss the beautiful Elisabeth Sladen.
"Hello"
"Oh I should think so"
WHO, (get it) Who said there was no strong female characters in movies or TV back in the day? Elizabeth kicked butt & took names, led generations of imaginary young minds from accross the world through many exciting adventures with The Most enjoyable & talented actors who wore the monical of The Doctor, i'm tearing up writing this as she's not with us any more except in her extended library of work from her lifetime of a top class actor. We'll miss you Sarah Jane Smith but always have you in our hearts.
My heart 😩 I really loved Elisabeth she was very special 💗
when Buffy is on vacation he is the vampire
i miss liz sm 😭
I cackled when there was "THE. LOCH NESS. MONSTER!"
"- Really?"
Dear Liz Sladen RIP Sarah Jane go say hello to the other doctors.😭
It was 10th face but it was 3/4s eyes when he saw her again after all those years and faces.
Oh right, now we need a Sutekh continuity
An all too brief glimpse of the lovely Jo Grant (Katy Manning) just before the end there
I don’t know if it was intentional but the war doctor sort of starts to look like the 9th doctor right before the camera cuts
Yes it was intentional as we found out the war doctor was actually the prior incarnation to Christopher Eccleston and not the Paul McGann doctor as had been previously assumed..
Very obviously intentional
@@titularhero Idk it’s so subtle it’s hard to tell if it’s just the way the visual effect is colliding with his eyes
@@castielffboi It's definitely CGI, you can even dig up the "9th Doctor" publicity photo it's using from when season 1 was being promoted. According to Moffat they cut at the moment the 9th Doctors features were quite suble because they didnt think it would be a good idea (or honest) for them to film a scene that looked like it had Eccleston in it when he wasnt.
I think the last time Davros saw Sarah, he was torturing her.
I checked the story, and basically that was the only time he saw her. Aside from catching her in the corridor slightly before that. They don't share much screen time since she spends half the story in the Thal dome
@@PenneySounds Any time I reminisce about Genesis of the Daleks fondly, all I need to hear is the term "Thal dome" to remind myself how long it is compared to my exciting memories haha
Yup. There was a shortened edit that was released theatrically a couple years ago, and it didn't feel like it lost anything important. Most classic stories could get a feature length cut and little would be lost.
RIP Elizabeth Sladen
I like how she understands at the end in the interrogation machine that giving it more information than it can handle will break it ... then she goes full hog and includes all she knows about the doctor ... and poof the operators understand they are beaten ... she knows too much LOL
Have you thought of doing one about the doctors family/children?
There's so little to go on for that
Pyramids of Mars is my #1.
R.I.P. Elisabeth Sladen!
6:29 - how did I not realize that was an Osiran pyramid before just now?
I haven't forgotten
Originally Elisabeth Sladen had to bow down after doing a photo session for Mayfair mens magazine, under a pseudonym. Tame by today's standards but the Beeb did not like the idea of a Dr Who companion doing a porno mag. As a teenager I thought "Gail the stylish Swiss Miss" was the epitome of female beauty!!
It would be fun if Sophie Aldred and Janet Fielding could continue Lis Sladen's legacy on the show.
Wouldn't be surprised if some of the support group from the last episode get some audio dramas.
@@nathandts3401 Fans have certainly been calling the support a good starting point for future stories.
Fun fact all old sit down all new standing up
What?
Wtf does that mean
Wasn't it actually Jamie who plucked the name Smith from a piece of equipment?
Erm... how does the Brig in The 5 Doctors remember Tegan, bearing in mind, in 'Mawdryn Undead', he existed in 2 versions, 1977 & 1983. She initially met the 1977 version, who had his memory 'clouded', when the 2 versions met, causing the 1983 version to not remember the Doctor, when they met again initially, by which point Tegan(& Nyssa) were already trapped on 1977, meeting that Brig first, before meeting the 1983 one later in the story, but if the Brig in The Five Doctors was from a period before Mawdryn Undead(He remembers the Doctor then, compared to the early scenes of his 1983 self!), he wouldn't be aware of Tegan at all surely, but he says hello to both her & Sarah Jane!
Ummmm, the timelines are out of sync?
That's a good one though
Where's that last scene from?
"Death of the Doctor"
I miss that actor so much
Okay, Seven contorting into Eight with never not be scary. XD
im sorry but as a buffy fan i must shout to the hills. HI GILES!
Funny, never knew Anthony Steward Heard was in a "Dr. Who" episode. What's even funnier is he portrays Giles in "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and David Tennant portrayed Peter Vincent in 2011's "Fright Night"(the 1985 version, which is my favorite vampire movie, was far superior, but was not a bad movie whatsoever). So, basically two vampire hunters. Good stuff.
The episode of Who was "School reunion," bringing back Sarah. The reaction was so positive that she got her own series (SJA).
Continuity wasn’t always correct, in one episode of the SJA a unit soldier noted that as ex UNIT her security clearance was higher than his, she was never in UNIT but an independent journalist. Deeply missed.
Actually, this is what was said:
KILBURNE: Major Kilburne, Miss Smith. It's an honour to meet you. I've read most of your files. Some are still level one security restricted. I'm only level two.
SARAH JANE: My files have a higher security rating than I ever did.
I love Sarah Jane Smith! I hope she gets a part with the second Dr David Tennant Who.
The only way Sarah Jane could appear in an episode with the second David Tennant regeneration would be in flashbacks.
That could be... impractical
THE. LOCH NESS. MONSTER.
seriously?
Older gents - Sara Jane or River Song?
SARAH-JANE!
Young Liz Sladen? No contest
@@MikeHesk742
Elisabeth Sladen Sir!
Sarah Jane!
Liz Sladen was never not young
Russell T Davies is a real fan
Sarah Jane first met The Sontarans with the 3rd Doctor
!?!? The Time Monster
I'd forgotten about that
The Time Warrior, but yes, she was introduced in the very first Sontaran story
Imagine if they only added the war doctor storyline to fix that one continuity error…
We have Giles and President Roslin in the same scene
Who?
@@PenneySounds I guess I was wrong about President Roslin from Battlestar Galactica. But she looks an awful lot like that actress.
Does anyone know if the sarah jane adventures are available for free as i have checked on bbc iplayer and i cant find it
It's on Britbox now
I'm not a connoisseur, but didn't you skip Christopher Eccleston?
Nope
For a show that makes no sense, it sure makes a lot of sense
WHO?
You do know that the character isn't called Doctor Who. He's only called the Doctor with no "Who" at the end. Doctor Who is the name of the show not the character.
Everyone knows that.
Except for the 2 films in which Peter Cushing calls himself Doctor Who.I recently in the past year rewatched those 2 films. I don't think I can watch it again.
No shit, Sherlock!
Finally someone who edited Sarah Jane and Rose Tyler competitive argument with the actual clips !!! Genius
I wanted to cut between the argument and the clips, but they talked over each other too much, so I went with the video from the clips over the audio of the argument.
this masterpiece channel maaan so great videos
