The Battle of New York and Tony Stark (making indirect enemies) branched out so many storylines. I think it's why stories were more interesting, because new things linked to old things and it made logical sense. Phase 4 was clear they didn't lay down the blueprint before building the road, whether it was for old or new characters.

The Doctor ???? What a dangerous being, popping to earth and enticing people with space candy to get into his little box and take them into danger. Things did not turn out so well for a few of his companions did it. In fact one of them died. Oh well back to Earth with some more time candy.

well if nothing else it helps explain why the doctor's name has always been hidden. i know why in new who he was very carefully not saying it, but that doesnt explain why the pre-time war doctors (and other timelords) were so buttoned up about it
