We completely eradicated them in one area. The state ran a program for Wounded Veterans and 450 of us hunted this county for hogs and we eradicated them from a 1000 acre tract. We were shooting 7-8 before lunch, the another 7 before dinner, take a nap, hunt them at night and shoot another 4-5 that night each vet. We completely wiped them out in 2 years. Currently they are starting to move back in after 3 years of no hunting. I have been charged a few times, once I was backing up a new shooter, I grabbed the ak from my truck because I hadn't planned on hunting. I kept it in there for emergencies. So I backed him up and he shot at a bunch and they ran around a patch at me, I fired a shot into the ground to change their direction. A big ass boar squared up on me and charged....I shot faster than I ever shot before...he took 6 and 4 bounced off of his skull. I side stepped him as he went by and put a few more in him. He piled up. The guy I was backing up came over, he said oh my God, what happened. I said he charged me, he said looks like he got you. It didn't register... I took a step and fell on my face. He had hit my leg as he went by with his tusks.

Great episode! I have hog hunted all of my life, with dogs early on and thermals recently. Highly recommend throwing a small IFAK trauma kit with tourniquet in every hunting bag.
My current main setup is a Pulsar Thermion on an AR-15 chambered in 6.5 Grendel with Huxwrx flow through suppressor. Looking forward to trying out the 6 ARC based on recommendations from this channel.
Completely agree that any caliber will work on hogs from 223 to 308.
I stay away from Full Metal Jackets and prefer to use soft points, match, or SST bullets.
Calling hogs is surprisingly effective using pig and sow squeals.
Avoid ATN Thor thermals like the plague.

Do you have any hints to getting into hog hunting as a career?

@@Just_Call_Me_Pagton Never pursued it full time, makes a decent side gig though, either charging to eradicate hogs on cropland or guiding hog hunting trips.

I’ve made the trip to Jacksboro TX a couple of times to hog hunt at night. We didn’t see many hogs during those two times but it was fun trying. I think we will try NE Texas next trip. We don’t have wild hogs here in Iowa but our deer population is out of control. This show is great, never stop putting them out.

Depending on headspace from the manufacturer you can use a 6.5 Grendel/ 6mm ARC BCG’s for 7.62x39 since 7.62x39 is the parent case for both. That said most manufacturers make specific BCG’s for that round bc there is no standardization for that round.

I need to make some pig hunting trips down south but luckily we have escaped hogs from hunting ranches in Michigan to hunt in my area.

In 2010, an estimated 753,646 hogs were harvested or approx. 14,500 per week. (Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute)

I will give you the credit of making me want to become a serious citizen before that was your slogan. Then I had a bunch of content to watch from over the years I have ran out. I prefer the way you make content over just the entertainment aspect like guntubers. I say you upload to UA-cam as much as possible because that is where people go for information and education not instagram. Inspire educate and equip

There should be a California Hog Hunting podcast group , too! Is there one? I like yoiur show! I wish there was one, like yours. Have you ever heard of one here? Wonder what’s the ideal caliber for the population of wild boats in this state? Too bad no one has made a podcast here yet...

We try to keep 5 under 60lbs in the walk in at all times for pig roasts and to smoke. Other than that, we take pictures and move on.

I have a cellular camera on my feeder. The feeder goes off at the same time every day. The hogs come one night and you won't see them for a couple of days or weeks. They don't have a pattern.

I have heard from a couple of manufacturers that 6ARC on podcasts that they have had problems with gassing on an auto loader. Factor in the bolts breaking before 2,000 rounds in the AR platform because of the thinner bolt rim and it sounds like the juice isn’t worth the squeeze in the AR platform. I have come to understand that it is super nice out of a bolt gun though because it mitigates all that.
