Just finishing out 3 builds, all AR-15 platform, all 22 arc, all Proof barrels. One in 22”, one in 18” and one 16”. Your video here gives me high hopes of how good they’ll be!
Finally got to test my 18” carbon barrel yesterday. Running suppressed with a digital night vision optic I got a 1.15” 5 shot group on shots 6-10 on the barrel. Annnnd it’s my first time target shooting in over 10 years (long story)
I had terrible ejector marks on my 6ARC cases with a Faxon BCG that I initially ran. There was actually brass build up around the ejector hole after a couple rounds, probably raised about .005"-.008". I changed to the bolt provided by Shilen with the rifle barrel and I had no issues with ejector damage. I had Faxon replace the bolt and it had the same ejector damage. The only difference I found between the Faxon and Shilen bolts was the size of the ejector hole. The Shilen bolt had .001" clearance between the ejector and the ejector hole and the Faxon bolt had .005' clearance.
I know this is an older comment but my plan was to go with faxon for 6 arc build. I’ve been seeing a lot of good comments on sixfiveoutfitters for BCG and barrels. Haven’t seen any of the same issues you’re having with this company so far
That’s very interesting on your findings between loads. I built a 22arc San tan receivers 18” prof carbon and lantac bcg. 62s and 75s are golden. Yielding sub moa around 3/4 I measure like you. Now the 88s open up to almost 1.5” moa. I’m about 400 rounds into it. Possibly bad batch ( which I’ve never gotten) from hornady. Vltor a5 system on the back end.
@@luisc240 no I sure don’t same as my 6mm arc. With my flow through suppressor I still get an under gassed ejection. So an adjustable wouldn’t do me much good.
I made it to the end.... your final thoughts on the matter is a deciding factor for me, maybe for many, I own a 6mmARC, as interesting it is, for what I do (target to 500) is more than enough. As fun as it is to shoot a variety of calibers, 6mmARC and 223 is as far as I'll take it. Thanks for well produced content. Good day.
How do you like the eld-vts? Also since youve done the video have you started loading for them? Curious if you saw some pressure signs early, or at all because of the headspace issue
Both would be legit , but the 22 creed will outperform with shorter barrel life . Which is obvious. So I’d say, if you want a longer range capable bolt gun go 22 creed . If your average shot is say 300 and in the 22 arc will be great . 300 and put the 22 creed .
Wade, it would be nice if hornady made lighter grain vt bullets, but they won't bc then they would fit in "legacy" cartridges. Is the 62 too long to load in .223 or 22-250? Will the 80 load in .243? Is that correct? I dont load so idk for sure..
I haven’t taken a look at 250 yet, so unsure on that one. 223 if you make some for bolt guns it may work. Past that not so much. Unsure on 243 . I know why they chose what they did for modern cartridges and chamber specs etc. But, there’s nothing stopping them from going lighter even if it’s for the newer cartridge designs. But, it’s always easy to say stuff from the sidelines. I’m sure they had good reason for the ones they chose.
Should do the 22-250 in an AR platform vs the arc. That way you can shit on the AR10 at the same time for all the people that said the 22arc doesn't matter because there is 22-250 AR's. Always gets me how many people think there isn't any difference between AR15/10
Would also be interested in listening to what they would say . Would love them to review a specialized dynamics 22-250 vs a 22 ARC AR build . Love that the SD rifle is a 7# AR-10 rifle ..
22 arc brass will more than likely be held up just like 6 arc. Military complex has to be testing this like crazy. 77lrx, Berger’s offerings, Hornady 88/90, nosier, sierra(who they are fond of) 90/95 grainer. Endless options to achieve what the 100+ range does out of 6arc
Totally agree, just wish Howa would get it together on there magazine availability as well as after market support with chassis for the Howa mini action
I too am a Proof Research barrel fan boy. One 16" chambered 223 with 1-7" twist full stainless heavy profile. This barrel shoots soo good I put a spare Tangent Theta on it just to see how good. I trued the upper and use Trigger Tech diamond at 1 lb 9 oz. With 73 grn eldm it will do right at .5 moa 10 shot groups.
What temps did you last get and shoot said ammo as compared to now? And have you cleaned your rifle lately? No saying something hasn’t changed, but curious.
@kaianuanu I just got a stainless proof barrel for 570. But if you're looking for a good 6 or 22 arc barrel for a reasonable price satern liberty barrels are pretty good. I was having an issue with my arc brass and Steve satern personally called me and gave me a great lesson on the arc and ar15 reloading.
Wouldn’t let me reply to your comment, the rifle is clean. the parameters are pretty close to the same as the last time I shot factory ammo just different lot numbers. I hand load and have never pierced or flattened a primer until the other day..makes me a little nervous tbh. I wouldn’t think the seating depth would change that much from lot to lot maybe touching the lands 🤷♂️causing a pressure spike. idk imma have to do more investigating when I get back in town.
The ARC platform is best for semiautomatic rifles AR’s. I truly don’t see why getting a Bolt Action on 22 ARC, when there is a 22 Creedmoor that outperforms in all stats in Bolt Action.
Yes in the 22 creed , love it . Haven’t gotten the 22 arc out yet though. Other things take precedence over factory ammo in the testing priorities. But, soon .
