You are cool..I grew up right where you are, I started Gilford High School Outing club. I used to stay on Belknap in 6th grade when the tower was manned by old guy Frank Johnson..I cut n trimmed trails and painted them yellow blue and red...I would hang out with Frank in early evening and listen to his stories.. actually an amazing experience as a kid trying to figure life out..and growing up..ty.. Taylor. Thank you for setting the example of having your dog on a leash. The wildlife sure appreciates your example. I am really enjoying this one. As a fisheries technician for the Fish and Game Department in the mid 1970's I netted fish on Squam Lake for studies. And the Castle. I was invited to hunt there each fall in the 1980's by one of the caretakers. There were few trails then. No Gummy Bears to be found. Just a vast wilderness tract with not another person other than those I hunted with.

Very cool..I grew up in Gilford and have hiked everything many times..a plane crashed on back side of Belknap many yrs ago.its still there. The trail up the back side off of Cherry Valley Rd..gets you to the plane..oh...don't forget Abenaki Tower in Wolfboro..very cool you are doing this..

listened twice and took good notes - anxious to get out and try them - thanks - never been to the lakes region as I'm more your alpine mountain tundra type, but with age... this will hit the spot and I can camp too - thanks soooo much - didn't realize it has it's own beauty.

I'm kind of jealous. You live in a place where you can just get out there and hike a mountain, like, before work -- any day you want. That's fantastic. Seems like it takes weeks of planning, logistics, etc., for me to get out there. I guess that's the glory of living in Nahamsha.

I'm glad I found your channel! My hubby and I moved to the Lakes Region a couple of years ago and since I'm a workaholic I haven't been able to explore much but I really want to take up hiking so I can prep for the AT portion that crosses here. That's a bucket list goal!

  • @marktomasko7863

If the AT is open in the spring I hope that I get the chance to meet you and say hi...depending on when we start its possible but not probable. For you it will be a first thruhike of the AT and maybe the only one but, for me, it will be my third but great luck to you and hope to bump into you somewhere along the path...Lets all hope that the AT is open and all those wonderful Trail angels and their magic will be out....Cheers and luck to all who take a stab at hiking the toughest and roughest 2000+ mile Trail there is!!!!

I have gotten to love hiking in the Lakes Region. Though the summits aren't as high as the Whites, the trails can be just as challenging. I have done Gunstock, twice, Major 3 time and Rowe twice. Finding my way to the trail heads is a bit of an issue as I am not as familiar with the Lakes Region as I am with the Whites.

I’ve only hiked at Castle In The Clouds once (that I can remember LOL), a group I was in did Mts Roberts & Faraway on a frigid day in Dec 2017. That loop might be a little outside the scope of an easy hike, but just Roberts is fairly moderate.

Always liked visiting the Lakes region of NH. It’s been many years since my last visit. Your local area trails look somewhat easier than the trails in my home area of PA. I know the Whites are far more challenging but it’s good to know about the easier stuff you’re highlighting lately. I’m looking forward to returning to NH in 2021. Thanks for the vids AND

Nice video... an interesting fall activity for hikers is doing a Hawk watch as they migrate south... If you hit the right day with a pair of binoculars you can see hundreds... A famous route south is over Pack Manadnock and then over Mt Wachusetts in MA. You already know Pack Manadnock so grab your camera, some binoculars and a tripod and enjoy the festivities.. if you enjoyed the movie The Big Year, all the birders are there...

Hiked Locke Hill (did the loop) this past weekend. Easy hike that started with Lakeview trail up , but my first time hiking husband really enjoyed it, and the views of Winnipesaukee were gorgeous. There's a great view of mountains just before you head down Quarry trail. Total 2.4 miles. Thanks for sharing these, only regret is that it wasn't posted before our trip. @@TaylortheNahamshaHiker If you park at the main hiker parking lot (where you would park to hike Mt Roberts), follow the stream running out of the pond. Several cascades / falls along that stream ending at the Falls of Song (40 foot waterfall). It's almost more of a walk than a hike, but it's great to incorporate into a loop hike. Also beautiful in the winter with all the icicles. Definitely check it out next time you are at the Castle.
