Watching yours and Kyle's videos again because I'm planning my own hike of this trail. Just read the trail has been re-routed so you can't walk up the driveway anymore.
I was reading an article in the AMCs Appalachia book about the Cohos trail and I started thinking that I want to do a longer hike and remember watching your first video on the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway and went to find the video again to reacquaint myself with the hike to see if it's something I should even think about and I stumbled onto this video and see you were hiking with Kyle Hates Hiking. I so would love to do a hike with you two. I know I could learn a lot, specifically how to lighten my load. I carry WAAAAYYYY to much even for a hike up Mt. Willard I pack enough to spend a night or two in the woods if I have to, which you should do, but I know I could do much better.
I saw your gear video about going on this hike and how you had a surprise co hiker. A few days later I saw his channel come up and the title had this trail. I thought oh, that’s the hike Taylor is going on. Then when I started watching, there you where! That answered the mystery. How nice to see different people I watch get together. Upper New England is a wonderful place with beautiful people. 😊❤️🇺🇸⛺️🌄
Haha that's cool you figured it out! I don't think we ever outright said we were hiking it together but we dropped a few hints. Hope you enjoyed the videos so far!
Well it's about time that the two New Englanders, whose hiking videos that I watch on probably a more consistent basis than any others, get together for some miles! I got my new Hyperlite pack yesterday, and I'm extra pumped to use it up in the mountains for several days this fall!
Hello Taylor, it's very good to see you again. Thank you for sharing this fine video. I hope that your summer is going well. Please keep your great videos coming along. Take care out there and stay healthy. 🤗

Hello Taylor . we found you via Karl Hates Hiking . we are pleased we found you . we hope your keeping well and staying safe . Love and Light Sarah and Glenn
Glad to see you back out on the trail. I'm sorry that conditions prevented you from completing your AT hike this year. Enjoy watching your videos. All the best to you.
Great to see you hiking! That is a pretty trail, looks perfect for a nice long weekend hike. Thanks for sharing! I like those wood tent platforms they have "up north". I have a system of stakes and pieces of rope that I used for those on the AT.
Awesome! Did it last year but had to cut out on the last 12 miles because of continuous t-storms. Hoping to be back in a few weeks to try again. Great vid!
I’m really glad I stumbled across your channel. I’ve done a considerable amount of hiking and backpacking in NH and I’ve never heard of this trail. And based on the look of several sections you’ve shown, it doesn’t see a lot of traffic. It’s a prime example of how the Whites get all the love(and crowds), and the rest of the state is treated as if it doesn’t exist.
It was awesome, thanks! Yeah... the atv was super obnoxious. He came by twice and just started hanging out feet away from our tents with all his friends in the middle of the night.

I love just getting in the woods but main people don't consider it a real hike or worth if you don't get to brag about 4,000 ft. Thanks for the awesome videos and keep up the great work :)

Taylor - if you are doing the 52 with a view list you might consider a purchase the book 'New Hampshire's 52 with a view. A Hiker's Guide' book by Ken MacGray. I just purchased the revised 2nd edition from Ken's website for around $20 and believe he has done a very nice job (he even signed it for me). If you used or like 'The 4000-footers of the White Mountains' you might like this one as well. You might even consider reviewing these books in one of your videos!
I've heard of Ken and his book. I've been thinking about purchasing. I've hiked 28/52 so I'm sure that book would come in handy with the ones I have left. Thanks for the recommendation!
Can't think of two hikers more diametrically opposed! No, you brought out Kyle's good side. Maybe he won't hate hiking anymore? PS That was a big frog!
Hey Taylor, What's the deal with the parking at both ends of the trail ? I've been wanting to hike the MSG for probably 20 years now and I think it's finally going to happen next week. I would be hiking nobo and spotting a car at sunapee the night before. From what I've read, parking at the ski area is free but, call them before and check. As far as Monadnock, the HQ is usually the last place I want to park but, in this situation I feel it's the safest place to leave a vehicle. I know they charge to park there and not sure about the multiple day parking if it's a one time charge or they charge you by the day. I'm not worried about making a reservation because, we would be departing on a Thursday. Thanks for any info you can provide. Steve-o
I've left cars at both locations while I did the MSGT. Once I tried to leave my car at a different parking lot by Monadnock, but the people working strongly encouraged I went to the HQ because it was much safer. They didn't charge by the day, it was just the normal flat-rate they charge anyone (maybe $15 I think). I made a reservation the first time to park at the HQ because it was a weekend, but I'm pretty sure you can check availability on the website to see if it's going to be full or not. I didn't let Sunapee know ahead of time I was going to leave a car and it wasn't an issue. Hope this helps.
When I lived up there you could always see a line of people above the tree line from miles away mostly on the state park side, I am Finnish so tend to avoid crowds, when the pandemic hit and we were told to stay away from people I had absolutely no problem doing that.
This looked relatively flat, is it easy enough for someone not in great shape to do? I had looked at doing this work my husband, but wasn't sure how hard it would be
Parts of it are flat, but there are definitely some bigger climbs as well. I guess it just depends on how fast you want to complete it. It took us two full days and two half days and it was a bit of a challenge for me physically. There are 5 (i think) shelters along the trail, so if you plan for shorter days it shouldn't be too bad!
If enough people tell Sawyer there may be a problem with the o ring they might take notice and redesign. Keep a couple of extras in your pack until another solution comes along.
A screened water hose gasket works great, stays in place and kinda 'pre-filters' the big stuff before the Sawyer www.ebay.com/itm/12-PC-GARDEN-HOSE-WASHERS-W-FILTER-SCREEN-Metal-Nozzle-Sprinklers-Gasket-Seal/392584964860?epid=2204659200&hash=item5b67e32afc:g:GDcAAOSwczxd8sHr I lost the original after one use, made for fun for the rest of the trail.
AND bring backup in your survival kit (dayhike kit), either a few MSR Auquatabs, Potable Aqua, 1 oz bleach (only 3 drops per liter), or even old iodine (yech!). Same as carrying a lighter and matches or flint/fire steel.
I released a mother bear and three female cubs there in about 1980 to bring bears back to SW NH. I had caught her and her three cubs the day before in Dixville Notch. She had broken into the kitchen at the Balsams. We radio tracked her and she stayed not too far away over the next year. Eric Orff NH first black bear biologist.
Basically since a lot of the trail is privately owned, if people can't follow the rules and camp in designated areas, landowners might revoke public usage.

I lost the original after one use, made for fun for the rest of the trail.

PItcher Mtn. that is.
Interesting! I was on the look-out for bears up there

Backpacking rule #1- Always pack an extra o-ring
yup. I know that now.
At least test your filter a week or two before you leave so you can back-flush if needed and have time to get a replacement if it still won't work.
