    In this video, I once again use my Samson Meteor USB microphone to record guitars and vocals for my new project, where I am recording a cover of one of my all-time favourite 80s tunes.
    Do you know the band that originally released this song back in the 80s? Or have an 80s band you would like me to cover? Let me know in the comments below.

    Oh my god, this is „The Final Countdown“, one of my most hated songs ;-) Your version is surely the best I have ever heard of it.
    The video is great as always. I really appreciate your effort for us garagebandians

    I love it!!! That’s one of my favorite songs and you did a stellar version.
    I used to have that Samson mic. It an affordable little tool. I’m using an XML through an IRig multi now. Awesome stuff as always brother.

      Cheers my friend! It’s fun taking these “rock” songs and making them super mellow. I usually use my Steinberg interface and a separate mix these days too but sometimes like to strip things back a little.

    Europe. I sometimes do covers of '80s synth-pop as folk rock or rock songs. For instance, "Only You" by Yazoo. I wish I could whistle as well as you can!

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 років тому

      Haha! My daughter has inherited my whistling "skills" too... now I realise why it annoys some people! It's way more fun doing acoustic covers of songs that shouldn't be acoustic! I have a few Green Day and Blink 182 tunes that I like to break out. 😀

    Hey Pete. A great demo and a great version of that song.
    I have a question, as always! I noticed that beneath the input gain volume there is the option for inputs 1, 2 or stereo. You seemed to only use input 1, if I noticed correctly. Can you educate us a bit about these settings and your choices?
    Thanks!!

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 років тому +1

      This is a great question and I did. Price that when I plugged in the USB mic, sometimes it showed up as just “USB” and sometimes it had channel 1, channel 2 and stereo. I need to do some more experimenting to work out why and when as it is not a multi channel interface or a stereo mic so should always just show up as one input?
      I’ll keep you posted.

    • @infarction8840
      @infarction8840 5 років тому +1

      My own mic, an IK Multimedia iRig Mic Studio always seems to connect and allow the options of the 3 to choose from. But I'm not sure which to select, so I go stereo. But if I turn my head from side to side my voice does pan!

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 років тому

      Well that would suggest it may be a stereo mic, which I didn’t think it was? Interesting...

    • @infarction8840
      @infarction8840 5 років тому +1

      I wouldn't know to be honest, but see the logic in your thinking. I first noticed it when playing around with the noise filter when I saw that one channel could disappear with a harsh set filter. Then I realised that it related to low volume in that channel as I moved around in front of the mic.

    You are using bluetooth headphones right? How do you deal with the latency?

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  3 роки тому

      No, I wouldn’t recommend recording with Bluetooth headphones because the latency is a big problem in my experience.

    Hi Pete, when you have automated a track and then you merge it with itself, does it keep the automation?

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 років тому

      Hey there my friend. Good to hear from you as always.
      Yes indeed! Merge will bake in all your effects and adjustments including automation.
      If you don’t want this, just create a new blank audio track and move the audio item to this track before merging.

    Pete! Please HELP me if you can! Forgive me, this is off topic but I have searched everywhere for an answer. 😕. When I drag my playhead to the middle of a track I dont hear all the notes I’ve played. Particularity the long held notes. If I play from the beginning its fine. Is there something I am missing? Is this a bug that needs to be fixed?

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 років тому +1

      Hey April. So it sounds like the issue you are having is that MIDI tracks will only play back if they are actually triggered by the playhead. If you are playing back a track and start in the middle of the note you won’t hear that note. You need to either play back from before the start of the note, or use the merge function to convert the MIDI track in to an audio recorder track.
      Here’s a video where I show how and you’ve inspired me to record a video about this which will be out soon.
