This was so helpful. The quality, time, and effort put in the entire tutorial was definitely not what I expected to come across through a simple quick search. I describe myself as a "flavoured newbie" because I've been playing around with GarageBand the past couple of years, like a little kid out on the loose in a toy store, clicking and experimenting with all buttons my eyes landed on, clearly not knowing what the heck I was doing and for whatever purpose lol. I thought maybe it was about time I try to gain, in the least, some understanding on those buttons.
Anyway, the world of art and music doesn't deserve you! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I'm sure future artists who will look into exploring their creativities someday will appreciate this so much when their times come... TO THOSE OF YOU WATCHING THIS TUTORIAL, give Charles's works of art a listen! His song, Nothing But The Glory, hit me hard haha

Same. I’m a simple man. I write compositions with wood/strings and write lyrics with wood and paper. lol. Can’t say I find a lot of joy in it but it’s needed so I’ve been trying to cram it in so it becomes second nature. I usually go for the most clean and simplistic sound.

Thank you Charles! I am a beginner and want to help my daughter who is a singer/songwriter produce her own music. You were easy to follow and had a calm and steady voice. I also liked that you are a very good teacher and the videos pace was perfect for me. I liked that every minute I was learning (all value and no fluff) meaning I did not get bored or frustrated because you left your ego out of it and just kept in the education and value throughout the video. I really feel I have a basic understanding and can now explore GarageBand on my MacBook Pro. I have avoided it in the past due to complete ignorance. Thank you so much for giving up some of your knowledge and valuable time to help others. After my daughter, Sophia Lund, and I produce some original music... I've been collecting the equipment, instruments (flute, clarinet, several basses, mic, etc.), midi controllers (keyboards, EWI, pads, etc, etc. and more on the way [Artiphon I1 and a Orba]) for a few years and now it's finally time for me to make music. Charles, This tutorial was extremely helpful. Your high level introduction then guidance into deeper dives explaining the power and simplicity of this tool is masterful. Your soft tone of voice offers us a level of confidence that we can create and accomplish anything. I appreciate learning from an accomplished musician and recording artist. I'm discovering your music too and really liking it. Thank you for helping all of us on our music journey.

You my wise friend are a hero. I was completely expecting to lose track of what you were saying because when I normally watch these type of vids they are quite complex in explaining and miss out a lot of the basic fundamentals, however you are fantastic at explaining what everything means while also keeping it some what simple and comprehensive. :)

How come your Steinway Grand Piano sounds sooo soft and smooth? I tried to adjust it so it sounds just like yours a lot but for the life of me couldn't and settled for a modified Pop Key Producer, but, how did you do it so that the Steinway sounds so good, like seriously, that actually surprises me a lot.
EDIT (for everyone else who might have the same problem): The Velocity seems to do the trick. While the Steinway Grand Piano sounds rather rough with its default settings, lowering the velocity gives it, no pun intended, a softer touch and removes the strain from playing the keys. Usually the velocity is 98, you can see this very good in the Musical Typing window (command K), and can change it there to a more moderate lower velocity. anything between 20 and 50 is a lot more pleasant to listen to, and this does a great deal of delight with other instruments, too.

I've spent a lot of time with GarageBand learning the basics of many controls. But I felt very limited at putting it all together so to speak, especially when it came to trying to add useful drum tracks. Your video provided many insights into areas I just hadn't dug into and I can see lots of new avenues for experimentation that will make my use of this software move to a more advanced stage. Well done.
