    The only things I'd add would be some different types of drinks. It's odd what you crave in ultra long stuff. Maybe some soda water, tonic water, ginger beer etc. The other thing that's really nice is to be able to occasionally brush your teeth. It's a good feeling after hours of drinking sports drink and stuffing yourself with gels to be able to reset your mouth!

      Great point! Will be adding this stuff too, for sure. Thanks again Shane!

    Agree having some different drinks, flat coke/pepsi. Also another food i have tested is cold pizza.....high in carb and calories

    Freddy, you're looking absolutely incredible mate! On food, I just finished a monster run about 10 mins ago - and the only thing I could think about for the last 5k was a Mcdonalds. I gave in when I finished. It's absolute rubbish food, but it motivated me during that last 5k. I reckon there's a balance to be had between enjoyable food that gives you a boost, and the maximally nutritious perfect food. I don't believe in Gels much, I'd always choose something real and satiating over them

      Thanks Jordan! Real food has to be the way for me too, much more enjoyable. I’m led to believe there may be pizza available at ensure 24 🤞

    Not sure what your goals are for the race but I’ll offer some advice from having just done Endure24 Reading. Eat little and often. If you don’t want to stop and sit too much, walking breaks are the perfect time to get in a gel, or a bit of food. Equally there was a little marquee with seats in the start/finish straight just for solo runners and you can leave a bag in there with everything you might need to save you ever having to leave the course if you’re planning on going straight through. I didn’t realise this at the time, but also means you don’t need to carry so much on course as it’s only ever 5 miles until you can get what you need. Tape your nipples, don’t need to worry about having to reapply any anti chaff then! Sort out any hot spots etc with your feet as soon as possible. Will save you pain, time and effort in the long run. And don’t be worried about using poles hills or no hills! I got mine out probably around 50 miles in, takes some of the strain off your legs whenever you want or need to hike. Have a sign that says solo on your back in some way, lots wrote it on the back of their legs. You will get constantly overtaken by all the relay runners and the encouragement you get from them as they pass you and see you’re an extra hardcore soloist is a great mental boost. Stay hydrated, keep your electrolytes up, it was 30 degrees on the Saturday of Reading and I was very thankful I had salt tabs as well as carb/electrolyte drinks and gels. Full fat coke or similar is something great to have waiting for you at the solo marquee too as a little boost. I walked loads but still managed 90 miles and stayed on the course the whole time. It’s going to be tough, but that’s the point! Enjoy it and good luck!

      Paul, thank you so much for this comment! Some diamond advice in there mate. Congratulations on 90 miles, that must have been so tough in those conditions. I heard it was an awful day with the heat. Leeds is looking similar at the minute 🥵🔥🤞

    Make sure your taking fluids out every lap... Especially in this heat, i done equinox 24 a couple of times and got someone to get. Me a hot meal ie burger or pizza at about 8pm while I was out on a lap so it was there when I finished, then I literally walked the laps from there on, I didn't sleep because I figured I'd seize up, so I just kept moving eating and drinking, eating while I walked, believe me the sunrise will give you such a boost and it may make you cry a bit or maybe it was just my roller-coaster of emotions

  • @IRunDaily
    @IRunDaily Рік тому

    Agree about drinks - it is weird what you start to desire. Massive chocolate buttons and mini cheddars got me through my lady ultra. Never touched them before or since. Ginger beer is a great stomach settler and you can't beat a cuppa. Kit wise, a change of clothes and a good wipe down with some baby wipes can make you feel like new. Probably best you do that yourself though 😉

    Great stuff! I think listening to others suggestions can be very helpful, but at the end of the day, you have to do what's right for you. Even the same runner goes through different phases in 1 race, much less race to race. My thoughts: be sure to bring it all organized in a wide top bag, so you can grab what you need quickly. I put fresh clothes in big zip locks, so that they're kept clean, and the sweaty stuff can go in them after. Besides gels, my personal food go to's are a big raspberry Danish, some watermelon, coke and whatever electrolyte drink... then from there, whatever strikes my fancy. I even brought fried chicken to a 12 hour on a whim, and loved it! 😂 I put the smaller stuff in a large clear container- visible but clean and dry. I once lost my Danish to melted ice in my cooler on a very hot day. 😢 I have those poles, they're excellent, and when your legs get tired and achy, even on flat ground, they can be a godsend. Your shoes are perfect, broken in but plenty of life left. I'm getting so excited for you!! And i love your Co hosts!!

    • @freddyruns
      @freddyruns  Рік тому

      Thanks Kelly, I have some clear storage boxes that everything is going in to, so nice an easy access and easy to spot things. Fried chicken? Now you’re speaking my language!! 🍗😋
      Last few runs to go, then it’s show time! So excited to get going! Oh, you were right about maranoia!! I’m feeling all sorts of niggles that aren’t there 2 seconds later! 🤣

    Looks a good varied choice there. I once did a 12hour time trial on the bike and found mint imperials were good for the sugar content instead of eating chocolate, plus they helped to cure the dryness in the mouth. Go and smash it and im looking forward to see how you do.

    • @freddyruns
      @freddyruns  Рік тому

      Honestly, think I’m heading back to the shop to pick up a few more bits - just random variety of things to give me more choice. I’ll be sure to add some mint imperials though! 😋

    Worried about your shoes, clean shoes go faster? Any special plans on the filming of the event? Bandaids ect for blisters? And I want to add, I'm starting to think you are insane enough to do this, I cant even stay awake for 24 hours. I would have some beef jerky on hand, your milage may vary.
