Hi, I'm one of the developers of Archthrones. I just wanted to say, you said everything I wanted to be said on this topic. This kind of behavior in modding community should not be encouraged by any means. Giving back to the community is what gives it life. Paywalls do the opposite.
Thank you for watching the video, and I appreciate you leaving a comment, having other devs for mods give their thoughts on GoE gives the video credit. I can't wait for Archthrones to release!
I dont think there is any shame in charging for mods. It is work done, and the companies rejoice for modders keeping the IP alive without direct investment. Also modders dont use the de-facto tools of the developers, which significantly raises the skill bar for a modder. There is no shame in work and profiting for it, all the while doing what you love. As games become more complex, more time is needed to mod. Now, is this a model that will last? Only time will tell.
@ruynobrega6918 yeah but you know what's not cool, stealing assets from other mods and then locking it behind a pay wall and selling it off as your own
@@Monsoon404honestly I could understand if they were taking the assets and using them for free mods but making people pay for something when it’s not entirely yours yeah ok bud see you in court hopefully
Funnily enough, I actually liked Garden back when he was doing Bloodborne BvB, but when he started modding ER and trying to Integrate Bloodborne into everything, I was fucking furious. ER doesn't need that in it.
@@Kenzeatz imagine putting an EARLY ACCESS mod behind a paywall and then lie that you are releasing it for free when its finished (also why even have the early access paywalled and the full release free, talk about backasswards...) not to mention it's just downright illegal and scummy to charge for mods since you're using other people's assets
@@Kenzeatz The money is one thing, but paywalling a mod that reuses assets from the game itself is actually illegal, not just a bad look for a mod. I have admiration as well as sympathy for the designers and music composer that worked on a beautiful experience for the mod, but the mod itself and the main guy that was also caught appropriating other independent creators mods under his own name, Sanadsk, are bad faith actors that tarnish the good work with greed.
I'm the creator of Elden Ring Reborn. My main issue is that GOE appears to be making little effort in terms of creating things himself and he does a lot of porting and paying others to do the real work, but I could be wrong. I've dumped somewhere over 2k hours into my own mod at this point. Lotta days I will work on the overhaul for 12 hours straight and then work my full time job the other days of the week, and even come home from said job and continue the grind. I respect other overhaulers, particularly the solo ones like Vawser, but GOE I'm not sure I can say the same.
Your work in the modded community is well appreciated. Currently doing a dragon incantation run through of your mod and I’m enjoying it. Keep up the good work.
Playing your mod right now and loving it. Thank you so much. I like the rewards system you have for defeating bosses. You can exchange those at the roundtable hould for any spell, talisman, armor and weapon and that makes builds so much more fun to try out as you can get what you need faster.
I am going to point out that two days after this video was released, an article dropped today declaring GOE's mod pack a sequel to the base game...clearly someone is trying to do some damage control for being called out.
If anything Convergence is "the sequel to the base game" as none of its additions (so far at least) seem like they're out of place. Lots of the GoE stuff looks like deviantart stuff.
Has anyone told FromSoft or Bandai Namco about this? I'm sure they'd be willing and happy to shmack goe across the face with a thick, meaty cease and desist order for selling their shit.
Even if I understand why talented people would want/desire/deserve compensation for their time and effort, I have nothing but utmost of respect towards people who engage in modding simply in order to express their passion for the creative medium and the game itself. They are true souls of the community.
@@IceTrayy-u3s I agree to an extent, but it needs to not be jeopardizing anyone's wellness and in this case, putting the from soft modding community at risk.
@@IceTrayy-u3s If you want money make your own game. Fucking with Japanese lawyers isn't a very good moneymaking scheme in the long term. This is a pretty shitty plan when it comes to paying bills.
Finally someone that speaks out against GOE's actions against the modding comunity, it's been so disappointing seeing the larger elden ring community ignore or promote his work, hopefully we can see an end to his practices and get the larger community to stay alert of grifters like him. Subbed and liked
I had never heard of Garden of Eyes before finding this video. I understand supporting mod teams by paying them, but forcing a monthly fee to use your mod? And barely adding anything outside retextures. That's scummy as hell man.
I have been saying this for months but all the comments were bashing me by using the excuse that is behind a paywall until is fully released which will never happen! Finally some justice! GOE if a shitty mod that deserves no money!
Thankyou for talking about Gardens subpar mod, I remember when he went by Sanadsk and would threaten people who would say his mods are lackluster or reskins in his comments of his vids.
the only thing that GoE has that I'd even be remotely interested in is the Hoarah-Loux powerbomb hands. Everything else doesn't look like it fits in Elden Ring at all.
I have played most of the overhaul mods and while I wholeheartedly agree about just playing Convergence, GOE does have some interesting ideas but they need to change the paywall and seriously sit down and revamp alot of the mod.
It would seem as though hes gotten a little upset about your little liberation attempt here. The launcher is now showing anti "piracy" things. Not that I care too much about it. I got what I came for. Godspeed Wolf, for you are one of the few willing to stand for true justice
Man I hate this POS GOE. I got a copy of his GOW mod for ER and updated it. That's the only thing I liked from him. But even then I wish it had more in it to make it even better. Sadly I don't have any money for that nor the ability to mod it like that.
And that's why my Patreon is free, you want to support me? Go ahead, more money does help, you don't? All cool, just endorse my mods on the Nexus, leave feedback so I can know what to imporve and have fun XD
i wish i watched this video before getting the mod 😞 I thought the drama was only about the paywall but it was beyond that apparently. big thanks for calling them out!
Seamless Coop tragically ceased development earlier this year on the 8th of July. Is the reason why Seamless Coop isn't going to be updated anymore because of Garden of Eyes selling Seamless Coop without permission? If so that's yet another reason for me to dislike him. I knew about the previous bad things done by Garden of Eyes, including him scamming a kid programmer who made his mod launcher by massively underpaying him and other actions not stated in this video, but I never heard about him selling Seamless Coop until now. I heard rumors of GoE earning upwards of six figures annually from his Patreon though I am not sure if that is true, but considering that he allegedly has a physical office for his mod dev team to work at its certainly possible. I'm fairly heavily involved in the Elden Ring Reforged community, and while ERR doesn't have as many new weapons, armor or spells as Convergence, I can attest to ERR's amazing quality of life improvements, new features such as an enemy bestiary, reworked vanilla systems such as Crafting and Affinities, very well thought out balance, bug fixes, restored cut content, passive perks on armor, new items and weapons, new moves for existing weapons, and even a few new bosses such as Azash, Pride of the Redmanes. ERR is very underrated due to it not having as much flashy stuff or as many novel experiences (new bosses and new areas) as Convergence or GoE due to it not being as high budget or having as many devs working on it, but its high bar of quality and the incredible direction from its two creators Kirnifr and ivi is unmatched in my subjective opinion. The community is also incredibly kind from my experiences with it over the last year and a half. And, of course, Reforged is free.
Seamless Coop is not being updated due to personal problems that the mod dev had irl, but he is still maintaining it so it at least works with the new game versions. From LukeYui: "Due to certain personal circumstances, work on Seamless co-op is on hold indefinitely. Planned features are cancelled. I will still maintain the mod; If a game / DLC update happens then I will make seamless compatible. To be clear: Development is on hold, but maintenance will continue."
@@emeraldwolf7920 While not the sole reason, the drama with Garden of Eyes was a contributor to the "personal circumstances" behind Luke's disengagement from modding.
@@ividyon I had a feeling it was part of the reason. Thanks for clarifying that, ivi, and as always for all the amazing work you do on ERR and modding tools! You and Kirnifr are both wonderful people.
His most recent video contained a rune selling scam sponsor. Don't know how long he's been doing it for, but its just really pathetic to see how desperate for money he is. Sanadsk would sell his soul to the devil for billions if he could. Why after 8 months he's still thriving in any capacity after being called out is beyond me. Nothing has changed.
im so glad i found this video because i just saw some vids before i knew abbout the paywall if it wasnt for that it could have been a fun mod like i saw what they changed with radahn and it looked really cool but it is a total shame that they added the paywall and probably even stole it from another modder or something like that
I became intrigued by Garden of Eyes when a trailer dropped for it revealing a new area as well as a new duo fight, known as the Guardians of The Helphan, and it looked sick as hell, so when months later I start seeing stuff about how it got paywalled and that it it was a scam, well needless to say my heart was shattered.
I remembered this guy because of Helldrake’s video on sanadsk. But I was shocked that not a lot of people seem to know about his shady business until now. Glad that people are now seeing how much of a scumbag this guy is.
Holy shit i haven't heard the name sanadsk in nearly a decade what the FUCK LMAO, I JUST THOUGHT GARDEN OF EYES LOOKED LIKE SHIT REGARDLESS WHAT A WORLD
I looked into it and from what I believe nearly (if not all of it) is just either stolen from other games, or stolen from other mods, which is actually illegal when you lock someone else’s mod behind a paywall WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION
I played this mod as well, but an earlier version. It was basically what you described: new weapons and armors and torrent skins, but no new bosses. Additionally, there were a few areas in the game that has terrible performance issues that dont exist in vanilla version of the game. There were also weapons that were just outright broken: for an example, the twin dragon scythe's death cloud has insane DPS and will basically melt bosses that are large in size. Then you have the obvious serpent hunter that still has its true effect. Overall, the mod got old fast. And with the new added features, I am not sure how I feel. It looked good when announced, but overall it looks like it dont work well in practicality. Not properly scaling down end-game bosses and having to fight fire giant as the first boss is insane. I feel they are more motivated by flashy effects than they are with actual level progression and everything else juist went out the door. That is a shame because I do like the boss rework for Malenia and Radahn that was advertised from their channel.
What really sucks is that this mod has entirely replaced his once relatively alright content. He still has a relative stranglehold over Bloodborne BvB and does absolutely nothing with it despite parts of his community begging in the discord (Henryk vs Simon, a matchup that was asked for over the course of 3 years, and he lied twice saying he was getting to it). It’s probably because he can’t somehow monetize it further. It’s hilarious, even his own mods barely operate the server anymore out of spite…or laziness, I can only speak for a few.
I'm honestly disappointed. I had no idea of the paywall and thought this mod's gonna be awesome, especially after seeing those custom boss videos related to the mod. With all that though, calling Ascended "high quality" is like giving 5 michelin stars to a 2-days old mcdonalds cheeseburger
@@emeraldwolf7920That's bs and you know it. The bosses GOE adds are of pretty high quality, while Ascended just increases their health and damage. I'm not saying the creator of GOE is doing the right thing, however the mod is of high quality and you know it.
@@danteking8573 I appreciate your perspective on the quality of the bosses in the respective mods. Quality in gaming can be subjective and influenced by personal preferences, so it's great to see diverse opinions and experiences within the Elden Ring community. However, reskinning bosses by using their exact movesets and spamming effects doesn't inherently elevate the quality of the boss encounter. Similarly, the Ascended mod approach, while not of high quality itself, in my opinion tends to provide a more satisfying and well-rounded experience when facing these reskinned bosses as it provides more of a challenge. It's noteworthy that the creator of the Godskin Dragonslayer boss(along with Cambria and the Godskin Executioner), Mihai, has emphasized that labeling it as a mere reskin of the Nameless King is an inaccurate description, given the diverse sources of inspiration they drew from. However, it's also worth mentioning that they've acknowledged the frequent occurrence of implementation issues in the mod, leading to a suboptimal player experience. Mihai recognizes their tendency to occasionally overuse effects and has remarked, "I do have a tendency to go overboard with effects sometimes, and this is why devs shouldn't be the designers."
@@emeraldwolf7920 ayy I've been quoted. yeah i do like vfx, tho i do think i can be chill with it if it'd be more appropriate (mainly for the ghostflame demons, dragonslayer, and the enhanced malenia i just made). there are more facets to creating a boss than just animations and effects tho, and i do think that every boss i've made has achieved the most i could've given my skill level at the time. like for the fire crucible knight having many different attacks to incentivize jumping, having its flight attack changed to stop right before the player to prevent the annoying downtime sword crucible knights have in vanilla etc. not to say i didn't stick to using the original animations on a few of the early bosses, but i'd like to think there was a lot of design behind the decisions i've made with respect to all of the enemies i've touched. also changing AI to emphasize different playstyles using my experience as a challenge runner and blah blah. anyhow, yeah, i'm with you on the issues, but i just want to also give a new perspective.
when i first learned about the garden of eyes mod i never thought it was an overhaul since the only things they ever showed were new weapons and it's not like that makes it very different from the base game then i learned they call it an overhaul so i thought they must have added a ton of new stuff but based on that video no i was right the first time it's not an overhaul and the fact they call it one is just straight up false advertising every overhaul mod i've ever played has felt like a whole new game but this just looks like someone fanfic
Is GOE the only mod that adds bosses/enemies from other soulsborne games? I haven’t seen any other ones. GOE has Soul of Cinder and Gael. Thank you sir
Another thing, it turned out this was indeed the video that i lashed against before in the coments. And im genuenly sorry for it, i was too stubborn to see how oblivious i was to the actual issues at hand. I was in the wrong and very inmature about it. And for that, again. Im very sorry and ashamed because of my actions. No hard feelings?
They recently ported Soul of Cinder from DS3 into their mod and I gotta ask: was SoC always that lame? Might be because I don’t remember my non-convergence playthroughs of DS3 but wow the GoE version they ported into elden ring seems downright wimpy in comparison.
Dark Souls 3 health points are way lower than Elden Ring. The general damage output in DS3 is just smaller in comparission. On the other hand though, DS3 bosses had way more poise than anything in Elden Ring and also do bigger poise damage.
Soc was always more of a pulling on your heart strings with the lore and moveset + an epic as fuck arena , theme , eclipse and pling pling plong. Take that into account and factor in that he is a ds3 boss fighting against a tarnished who in general is way stronger like op stuff , better movility , more dmg etc than the hollows from ds
Good for calling him out, however, the thing that he does is unsustainable. Mods are for the people that play the games crazy amount, and we already know who does the best mods, what to be exited about etc. Everyone knows that Convergence is solid and likely to be in the future games, Ascension is misguided attempt to make the games unfair, Randomiser is always anticipated, and most of all, we know not to support idiotic monthly payment model. If you search for it, you will see that people who purchased that mod are desperate content creators fishing for views on their videos. So, it will be forgotten in months, at most.
Also, I would like to bring attention to one mod. DS2 is my least favourite, I tried to like it, played 3 times between vanilla and Scholar, but in vain. However, Seeker of Fire 2.0 looks like it's going to make the game better for people like me. Something to keep an eye out for.
@@ZeracoRyuu Yeah, he is a scumbag so long, but, what I've meant is that nobody "important" from the comunity is not going to promote his mods, so they will never reach popularity of Convergence and such, and I believe that, one day, even his low effort crap would not be worth to make.
I am a big fan of the Reforged mod. It is basically an upgraded and rebalanced version of vanilla with perfect deflects. I tried Convergence on both DS3 and Elden Ring; I get why others like it, but going through the game like a roided up superhero is not my cup of tea.
@@sir_gort Yeah, Convergence can be on the easy side, still, for me, that is better than Ascended that goes overboard the other way, as making mods for Souls can often lead creators in that direction. I haven't tried Reforged yet, but as I love parry/deflects, I will try it.
BRUUH I thought it was just $5 but that's a month. I didn't know that GoE was this greedy Is this perhaps the same guy who was making the call of the abyss mod?
I believe to have commented on one of the replies below a comment the garden of eyes made trying to justify the issues this mod has (or maybe it was on another similar video i cant remember), lashing back at you (or perhaps another content creator) in kind of a rude way. Looking back and actually watching the video i gotta say that despite how much i want to play the mod, there are some thigns that are impossible to ignore (even if it didnt had a paywall): -The bosses inconsistency: Compare the creta fight with the recently added demons of ghostflame. One seems insanely more fair, fun and balanced than the other. While is good to improve and do a better work it is also undeniable unfair to keep the other new bosses behind as the player wont get encourage to fight them compared to the new ones. Instead of relying on Aoe the Creta knight could just use the other crucible incantations with fire particles and damage while leaving a trail of magma. Even the grab of the crucible knight could be replaced with one of the fire giant flames incantations. It would be essencially a normal crucible knight with fire resistance and spells yet it would be way more fun to fight (like the frenzy omen if it was placed on a better place) against than a guy who just spams fire over and over again just breaking your poise. Theres nothinf fun in that. One of the bosses, "Odeon, the primeval current" has a very laughable 3d model, its very low poly on the inside and what can be seen underneath look more like candy bars than the supposed star and cosmic vibes its supposed to be, i wouldnt had minded if they at least had to recolor the elden beast model to at least change it a bit. The GoE team took a cut enemy from bloodborne which had an even worse moddel and they made it look decent enough to be in the game so why not fix odeon or just give them a good model to begin with???? Speaking of the elden beast: When this boss uses the proyectiles of the sacred relic sword, the waves look blue and exactly the same as those shooted by the holy moonlight greatsword they added, which leds me to believe they are having problems with the particle effects or are just too lazy to fix it. -The elden variants: A good concept on its own right (the battles look alright) and an idea that might be inspired by the convergence mod. But the main problem here is that you have to defeat the normal versions first in order to fight the new ones which is a huge letdown. The main appeal when overhauling bosses is to make the players want to try them as soon as possible, no one wants to fight malenia once just to get the better version as the player will be exhausted. The charm of the convergence mod when it came to this mechanic was that the bosses were already changed and the fight was so good at times youd want to try the same experience again due to the impresive changes. -The stiff animations of the new bosses. Some of the attack transitions on some if not all the new bosses feel pretty unnatural and everything but smooth, they are buggy between animatons and sometimes it is hard to ignore. The titan crucible knight boss has this attack where they use all 3 crucible incantations while teleporting, is a good concept yet the tail swipe is pretty flacid and the model of the tail itself is pretty small compared to the NORMAL crucible knights that can take half of your screen while summoning a massive tail swipe attack that does massive poise damage compared to this supposed titan"s tiny wiener. This boss also uses an attack which does the same as Godfrey Aoe when he buries his axe on the ground to shatter the earth. I dont think it should be possible from a lore perspective since the crucible knights are not stronger than Godfrey himself since he trained them yet this is just me being cheesy. The main problem with this attack is that it also summons a shockwave that decreases the fps a lot. Another example of wanky animations is maliketh, on the most recent video the Garden of eyes talked about how they added back his unused animations, one of them was a triple flip on mid air that maliketh does on the video, but its all shaky and frankly it looks like he has a mini seizure while doing so. I hope once the mod is finished they actually let everyone play for free while adding patchnotes that fixes these problems. Unless they put another paywall and dont allow anyone to play for free until they finish said patchnotes, which would be an insult in all honesty. -The ridicolous new weapons: They look pretty on a first glance yet it doesnt go anything beyond that. They are pretty unbalanced since the mod itself tells you to rely on them since these are the only ones capable of doing ok damages against the new bosses while one shooting everything else. There is a reason why you cant oneshot everything even while having a maxed weapon on the vanilla game, everything would get boring quickly if theres no challenge in defeating the enemies so easily. There are also some weapon arts that look pretty stupid, mainly that of the fire giants greatsword and the dragonclaw hammer. Both "summon" tiny versions of these bosses to do some Aoe incantations (that you could just use their respectull spells instead), it might want to insist upon itself that it looks cool, but no. It takes a lot of space on the screen and it indirectly tells you "good luck using these inside dungeons and indoors". -The camera: I dont know whats with the camera that it stays a bit above the player and the boss, making them both seem a bit tiny which really takes out the imposing intimidating factor these enemies have on the vanilla game (like walking slowly to morgott just to see how much he towers the player). Altough it only happens sometimes. And last but not least: These guys might be completely obvlivious as to why a lot of people hate this mod. I personally want to like it since there are not a lot of overhauls despite the convergence that actually adds new bosses with custom models. That aside, one of their arguments is that both the convergence and archthrones also port animations from other games and have a patreon for people to donate. But the main differences are: -Both of them were free from the begining and it is completely optional to donate them in order to play the mod. -They are not using the work of other modders without their consent nor violating the terms of service by actively selling their mods. -They actually put effort in checking and testing for bugs and balance for the mod so the player doesnt have a bad experience instead of just focusing into adding a lot of stuff quickly. -They are making sure to take their time and release good and decent ammounts of content. Lets remember that before the new bosses and spells were added Garden of Eyes was already putting a paywall just to get access to the armor sets and reskined weapons. I want to talk a bit more about the weapons, on the convergence mod the new aditions are not way too over the top and some of them are just average weapons like a wooden pole that while simple is still fun to use. Some of these weapons mix the moveset of 2 existing armaments so it feels more natural to battle with them instead of a reskin. Even the legendary weapons like the divine blade have a rather simple ash of war that doesnt make them tedious to fight with. Lets compare that to the twinsword of miquella GoE added: it uses the same moveset as the godskin peeler and the ash of war is just the waterfowl dance with a lot of golden particle effects. It might look kinda good the first few times yet it becomes way too plain after using it for a while. Not to mention how the glow can be too overwhelming and the animation wasnt meant to be used on a twinblade. The black knife and blade of calling use the animations of the black knights attack for the r1 atttacks. It can be pretty tedious to land a hit unlike the 2 handed version which adds the visual effect on the blade along with normal attacks, something no one would complain about if they did the same for the r1 animations. Some of the GoE weapons are ok yet not that great compared to the convergence. I think thats everything about it. I believe that some points might be wrong but even still it impresses me these issues are not adressed. Even if we ignore the paywall for a moment its worth noting that this mod can be very, VERY inconsistent. Is like a kid playing with a sandbox while using the toys of others and wanting to make a profit out of it. I just hope they at least balance the mod itself and fix all of these issues, altough i dont know how likely this may be.
Another point i missed are the spells. Some are ok at best but most are just boring like the gravity magic. I think the only one i liked was the crucible wings incantation but even still it looks kinda stiff and can hardly land a hit. The convergence team has better spells compared to this mod yet the main problem (and the biggest one with the convergence) is how some of these can take a LOT of FPS from the player while being casted. Is something i never liked about the convergence yet is only one genuine negative issue (that can be fixed by only having a better pc) compared to GoE.
One last thing (for real this time) is the dark souls bosses that were added. Ornstein and smough models were added and changed to fit the lore of elden ring yet nameless king, soul of cinder and gael remain almost the same with no model changes whatsoever.
@@guerindacio4584 I have finished reading your comment, and thank you for the criticism that was specific to the mod itself. While there are some specific things I wanted to comment on, the overall feedback is appreciated because as mentioned before, the mod is still in Early Access, and there are some issues you mentioned like Cambria's attacks that we are have on the list, alongside 100s of other issues we are continuously tackling. Similarly (and specifically) with Oedon, he is still not in-game yet for people to experience because we wanted to polish him further, whether it was the model, the effects, etc... I understand it can appear like we are ignoring such issues, but there are sometimes more important issues (for example when we added the New Roundtable Hold area, some people had problems with specific questline that even when we bug-tested ourselves, they were very niche scenarios that we had to consider, considering Elden Ring's nature of convoluted questlines). I think if you ask other mod developers, they can also tell you how some weird bugs just come out of nowhere that appear very simple, but sometimes break other stuff. One more thing about the DS3 bosses you mentioned, is that because the mod is in continuous development, we sometimes add weapons, bosses, etc as small teasers to what is coming later on. Later on, it will be very clear why those DS3 bosses exist and their goal in the ultimate lore of the mod we are creating. And as I need to emphasize again, the mod is still in development, you can ask any single member of the team on how much we brainstorm on how to make the mod better, how to introduce mechanics that makes the game more enjoyable, how to make weapons more unique, etc..., and this takes hours upon hours and a lot of creative effort, plus my part in managing that team and making sure everyone is working towards that vision we are targeting. In the end, our goal is when the mod is finished, that it is very polished and up to the highest standard. Our team is working full-time on the development of the mod, and the Patreon helps everyone's efforts and valuable time be appreciated and more focused on doing their best work, and as we mentioned extensively before, we will be releasing the mod for free once it is complete and up to the standard we are aiming for.
@@GardenOfEyes wow. I never consider you guys to actually comment back, it is shocking yet in a good way. I apreciatte that despite how some parts of my comment were quite offensive (again, i didnt expected this to be read by a member of team itself let alone reply) you still answered on a very profesional way and actually took the time to adress the issues i talked about. Thank you for being so patient and understanding, im actually sorry for the parts of my comment that were quite unpolite and taunting. I look foward to play the mod once its over because it might be on par with the convergence if done right. I have read many comments of people talking about you caring more about the money than the mod itself, it is very conflicting once i think about it. By this point i realize that i dont really know anything about the "stealing assets" part of the video or even the controversy when it comes about you. I admit that it was wrong to talk about this specific thing that i dont really know about. Whenever is true or not i advice you to be very, very carefull with this. It would be a shame if this mod isnt allowed to continue developement. Please be cautious about what you do and take care of it. The only real piece of advice that i can give you is to not rush things a lot and take your time. Not to say you should go extremely slow (feedback and testing is good after all) yet take in mind that even if some stuff takes a lot of time it ca be so worth it in the end. An example could be the creta fight (i really want to talk about this one as it is a concept with a lot of potencial). It seems like a boss that is a crucible knight corrupted by the flame of ruin and gained some insane power because of it. This mod has always gave me the vibes that is more of a cinematic spectacle than a difficult challenge at times, not to mean the boss shouldnt be hard, all of the opossite but what youre doing with creta is artificial difficulty by adding a lot of Aoe attacks. Heres mt advice on how it could become a more enjoyable experience (just a recomendation): One effect that was absolutely beautifull is how creta wings seems to be ignited by fire as he did the normal wing attack. Now this is good and something awesome of the fight. Creta is still a crucible knight so he should have the tailswing and the horn charge at his disposal that are also empowered by flames (this last one leaving a trail of magma behind it after the charge, like the magma wyrms). You also should consider giving him the "aspects of the crucible: breath" throat sack instead of the wings when he breathes fire. Again, it isnt out of character since he is still a crucible knight even if fallen and it would even be better to look at than the wings. One animation that could work very well on him is the ringed knight straight sword special weapon art. Not only is simple but it also fits very well the theme of fire and flames. I also have noticed you wanted to make creta have a move where he teleports and leaves a lot of fire orbs on the arena that deal a lot of Aoe damage. Im gonna be honest with you, its not fun to dodge and it can decrease your fps a lot. I advise to get rid of this aswell as the move where he jumps backwards and breaths fire. (the one where he stomps the ground and does a spin with the sword is ok). Now the question is: How do i make creta use fire incantations while also being fun to fight against and look cinematic? I dont know how programing works so this part might not be as easy as i think is gonna be to incorporate if it somehow gets added, but creta shield could serve more as a catalyst (while still being a shield) to cast fire incantations. the shield bash from the crucible knights could cast "Flame, Fall upon them", creta could also ocassionaly use a block animation to cast "Flame sling" to keep you up your guard. It could also use "flame cleanse me" in case the player infects him with scarlet rot or poison. Now the hardest part would be the transition to phase 2, i have a good idea with this one (yet it sounds messy to program). It could add Morgotts coughing animation at the begining then switch to a Hoara loux roar (the one where he raises on one foot) before he does an eartquake slam, before he hits the ground "fires deadly sin" would be casted as he is still raising in one foot before the slam (it would play right after the coughing animation) this could also add both "flame grant me strength" and "flame protect me" as a last dessesperate attempt to kill the player. Of course this move would only serve to transition into phase two and only be used once. I dont think is necessary for creta to create an actual earthquake once he hits the ground so it is best for him just to touch the ground and get up asterwards, maybe add a bit fire explosion if you want to punish the player from beign greedy (considering they ignored the fire pillars and still got close) To make it more balance i believe it would be good for cretas health to be slighly drain on this second phase to make things more even for his buffs. Lastly if you do want a bit more variety when it comes to his movesets you could also add the "sword of knight and flame" fire weapon art animation and attack for creta. Creta is a late game boss, but he is no demigod so with this i believe he gets vibes of a very powerfull warrior yet not to the point of comparing to the shard bearers while feeling more organic. There is one last issue that is the "flame of the felled god". I have an idea for this and it would be using "radagons ring of light" animation so he can cast one of these orbs in each hand, when he does the t pose both of these spheres would get fired at the player yet both would be slow to aproach. For a better way to visualise this one you could check an old version of a mod called "sword of night and flame: Unbound", the weapon art makes the player hold 2 spheres. Lastly there is "Giantsflame take thee", this one could be used if someone decides to try and hit Creta with a spell and he blocks, it would work like the erdtree giant shield some of the golden armored tree sentinels use to deflect proyectiles back. Phase one would have the basic moveset of a crucible knight while having the flame versions of aspects of the crucible, the shield casting incantations and hability to deflect back proyectiles. Phase two would have this and also add the ringed knight straightsword weapon art, the sword of night and flame fire weapon art, both fire buffs i mentioned earlier, the "flame of the felled god" dual proyectiles and thats it. Considering whats added on phase two i believe it would be good to refill his healthbar to make the fight last since his health would get drained slighly and maybe reduce his physical resistances. Or maybe give him a lot of health. Lastly if this comes into reality (this is an hypotetic scenario of course) maybe its better to give him an slighly bigger arena to fight him considering how much he could move now. Even if the fight with creta remains the same an slighly bigger arena would be better. But thats just how i see this boss could be more fun, i hipe you take your time to read this and again, thanks for taking me seriously and being more polite than i was, i apreciate it. Please take all the time you need while developing the mod.
Clearly Not worth the price ... convergence reuse lot of bosses and ennemy moveset from almost every souls , but they do it in a good way , with good sync between every attack , they take they time but they make a really beautiful work , garden of eye reuse moveset , but create too much of " mid " boss fight for exemple
Unless there is a clear timeline, that is not even remotely a trustworthy promise. Based on this modder's history, expect it to never be "complete" and "free". I doubt SandaSK will suddenly decide they no longer want to make money.
Dude watch garden of shits most recent video on it.. oh my God it's fucking awful. I'm actually mad at what they did to ER and the other games. Genuinely butchered..
Yeah I probably should have listened to this video beforehand cause man I just tried the mod after paying $5 on it (don’t worry it’s a tax right off) and good god. I mean when you get 5 variations of the same “darts” magic you know you are doing something wrong (that’s an exaggeration but the magics are just lackluster and bad). The bosses and new area are probably the only things that I see they worked on in this mod but the rest is basically “Elden Ring” all over again just with a fancier hud. Yeah don’t even bother getting this I mean it’s already bad that he is charging for this piece of cardboard with “beautiful colors and flashy lights”. I also told my friends so they have been warned.
Im glad people are calling out these paywalled mods. It's getting especially rediculous for games like skyrim at the moment. Its absolutely destroying the spirit that the modding community is founded upon. Thank you!
The mod looks like it was thought out by a 5 year old, attacks spin and combo infinitely and have so many random particle effects but without any sort of synergy or clear idea of what the moveset is going for, every weapon becomes the exact same at that point. I was never interested in the mod and after watching this video I'll tell all my Elden Ring friends to never play it, thanks.
I like goe's idea of bringing back old fromsoft content and the different ideas they have for spells, but their execution is terrible, and the whole paywall thing is horrible
For a long time I've been hoping for a proper deconstruction of GOE's shortcomings, and the controversial figure behind it. Unfortunately, this video was very shoddily put together. Guess I'll keep waiting.
I also noticed how unbalanced and overall lazy the mod was when I looked at videos of it, like yeah some of the effects and "unique" weapons might be cool but their so obviously reskins of existing weapons. Also why could you start with literally the choice of just getting every mod weapon? That just furthers the unbalance and makes the experience boring and the idea of winning these weapons in fights or discovering them is just reduced to nothing. If the mod was free I might consider playing it for the few power trips or just deleting bosses in seconds. But If I have to pay for this lazy reskin mod? Hell no, in other words: TL:DR play convergence instead
answer me this, is there any mod other than "Garden of Shite" that has the Bloodborne guns in it, that, as pathetic as it is to admit, was my sole reason for forking over for the mod, beyond that? i played Clever's for my fancy ass movements with melee weapons.
Personally if mod will be high quality i dont have problem to buy one month for 5 dollars or smth like that. If it's optional to have a patreon, most players wont support you at all. Many modders spend 1000h to their mods, learning new thing, waste their time for "thanks" that's not how RL works, passion is a great thing, but overhelming for a free. Btw i dont talking about GoE mod, never played, can't judge.
*Says he will be unbiased. Spends entire video explaining why GoE is bad, overpriced, and inferior to other, free mods.* I mean, you're not wrong on some of that, but come on man you're about as unbiased in your review as a hardline follower of the Golden Order would be towards the treatment of Omens. Just skip the 'objective as possible' lie and go straight into saying it's bad.
I have just seen this video, and I wanted to clarify on the stuff you mentioned in the video. For starters, most of the issues you have proposed in the video are due to the fact you are either using the old deprecated launcher, or using the mod without our launcher because from the footage you can see that neither the difficulty scaling, nor the enemy resizer (Look at Godskin Executioner size) is applied. But first and foremost, I have to iterate on the fact that the current state of the mod is in EARLY ACCESS, which means it still has bugs, and is still not fully complete by any means. The reason for the Patreon is because I am paying every individual working on the mod a monthly salary. And the mod has been clarified to be released completely for free once it is complete development. As for the other issues: 1) The new classes starting locations areas are all scaled, so when you start the Nomad class for example, the Shunning Grounds difficulty + loot + upgrade materials of that and all subsequent areas and dungeons in the progression are all scaled to cater for that (So for example the Shunning Grounds is tutorial difficulty, Altus is Limgrave, Volcano Manor is Stormveil, etc). The reason that wasn't applied on your end is because, again, you are not using the aforementioned launcher that makes the mod work in the correct manner. Same thing for Fire Monk class, no you don't have to beat Fire Giant, you can't even get to Fire Giant because the chain is broken in that class. You will have to reach the lift and you can progress from there. Same thing for Nomad; as the medals have been given new locations that work with that specific progression 2) The "Reskinned" weapons are not reskins, we do have a small amount of ported weapons yes, but more than 25+ weapons are all completely new designs created by our team. As for the issue of "reusing animations from the game and older games", this is something that is applied to Convergence, Archthrones, Champion's Ashes, and every other mod you see, so it is not exactly an argument you can apply only on our mod, whether you are looking at player animations, or bosses in general. 3) The issue of "Sanadsk" has been something that was long been addressed both publicly and privately, but to give you the general consensus is that at that time I was a 14 year old kid who has happy to create mods. I didn't really care for copyright, nor credit back then (I didn't understand its importance, I was literally a kid), and I have apologized extensively for that problem to the people involved. As for the (Seamless Coop) issue, I did admit that it was completely wrong putting it on the launcher without asking them, but it was NEVER stated that we made it, want to sell it, resell it, or any of that. It was for the sole purpose of making it easier for people to use it. But then again, a mistake is a mistake and I do admit it was a wrong thing to do and I take responsibility for it. 4) As mentioned before, the mod is still in development, so right now we have recently released an update that places the items in the overworld, polishes some of the problems like the bosses, adding completely new bosses, areas, and much more. I hope you read this in an objective manner, because most of the issues proposed in the video are misconceptions about the mod and the team, and I hope the explanations above are clear enough.
Oh, it's truly enlightening to hear your take on these matters. It's not like the video brought up legitimate concerns or anything. The blame game about the "deprecated" launcher is a fascinating tactic. I had no idea there was this "deprecated" launcher or the right "recommended" launcher when I was installing from your Patreon. Even taking the briefest look online shows that outside of your video the Godskin Executioner size is not applied. It's not your responsibility to ensure your launcher works seamlessly for all players, right? "It's in early access"? What a convenient excuse for the litany of issues and half-baked content. Early access should imply a degree of playability and the opportunity for players to contribute feedback, not an excuse to dish out broken and unpolished content. Promising a free release once it's "complete" doesn't mean much when there's no timeline or clear definition of what "complete" actually entails. Scaling for new class starting locations sounds like a handy feature, if it worked as intended. And, of course, if players aren't clued in on your intricate system, it's their fault for not using the "right" launcher. Claiming that your "reskinned" weapons are actually "completely new designs" is a remarkable stretch of the truth. New weapon designs, you say? 25+ of them? It's amusing that you're proud of 25+ new weapons when countless FREE mods out there have provided significantly more without compromising the game's integrity. Ah, the "I was just a kid" defense. It's always heartwarming to see people admit to past mistakes, but remember, apologies don't erase consequences. And the whole "Seamless Coop" issue is an absolute gem. Who needs to ask for permission when you can just add it without consent and expect no one to notice? Mistakes are just a testament to your daring spirit, and taking responsibility is overrated. Your commitment to ongoing development is encouraging. It's vital to maintain a consistent update schedule and actively engage with the community to address concerns and prioritize fixes. Demonstrating a clear roadmap for development can foster confidence in the mod's future. In conclusion, your attempt to explain away the video's criticisms falls flat. Players deserve better than a modder who hides behind early access, Patreon, and weak justifications. Take responsibility for your work, improve it, and provide a polished experience for those who genuinely support your efforts. Though it's curious that so many misconceptions about your mod seem to persist. Hopefully, this response is objective enough for your liking, as your clarifications have certainly given us a more detailed picture of your mod and its ongoing development.
@@emeraldwolf7920 Firstly, the Patreon literally tells you to use the launcher to play the mods, not by using external methods or so. As for all of your other "objective" replies, it's clear that no matter what answer I give you, you will be against it either way. I tried to explain in a very honest and straightforward way what we do and how we operate, but I guess it's pointless extending this conversation to be honest.
@@emeraldwolf7920 btw what were you expecting? Even if the mod was downright terrible no one is forcing you to pay for it. And considering ifs still early in development then of course is gonna have bugs. It's gonna be free once it's over. Maybe is not the dark souls community that you care about but rather your ego based on the funny language you use on your replies.

I'm the creator of Elden Ring Reborn. My main issue is that GOE appears to be making little effort in terms of creating things himself and he does a lot of porting and paying others to do the real work, but I could be wrong.

I am going to point out that two days after this video was released, an article dropped today declaring GOE's mod pack a sequel to the base game...clearly someone is trying to do some damage control for being called out.

Holy shit i haven't heard the name sanadsk in nearly a decade what the FUCK LMAO, I JUST THOUGHT GARDEN OF EYES LOOKED LIKE SHIT REGARDLESS
WHAT A WORLD
I looked into it and from what I believe nearly (if not all of it) is just either stolen from other games, or stolen from other mods, which is actually illegal when you lock someone else’s mod behind a paywall WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION
My point was that Ascended is high quality compared to GoE

And im genuenly sorry for it, i was too stubborn to see how oblivious i was to the actual issues at hand. I was in the wrong and very inmature about it. And for that, again. Im very sorry and ashamed because of my actions.
No hard feelings?
All good
They recently ported Soul of Cinder from DS3 into their mod and I gotta ask: was SoC always that lame? Might be because I don’t remember my non-convergence playthroughs of DS3 but wow the GoE version they ported into elden ring seems downright wimpy in comparison.
It's a direct port of Soul of Cinder however I think the Elden Ring mechanics make it seem lame, especially when compared to other Elden Ring bosses.
Dark Souls 3 health points are way lower than Elden Ring. The general damage output in DS3 is just smaller in comparission. On the other hand though, DS3 bosses had way more poise than anything in Elden Ring and also do bigger poise damage.
Soul of Cinder was an ok fight, nothing to write home about compared to Gael or anything.
You gotta pay money for some 2-bit mod for a SOULS game lmao. Unless it's a completely new game, SCREW THAT!
Thanks for saving me some time before trying this bullshit, loved the review, straight to the point, new sub
wait, you have to pay for the Mod? wtf
Convergence>money grubbing fukboii mod creator
Mwahaha who pays for mods? Deserve everythin you get lmao...
Now I feel like I need elden ring in my life 😶
Good for calling him out, however, the thing that he does is unsustainable.
That is pretty unlikely considering this has been going on for years.
I didn't know that GoE was this greedy
Is this perhaps the same guy who was making the call of the abyss mod?
CoTA was made by a different person who left the community due to being criticized for having a paid mod.
I believe to have commented on one of the replies below a comment the garden of eyes made trying to justify the issues this mod has (or maybe it was on another similar video i cant remember), lashing back at you (or perhaps another content creator) in kind of a rude way. Looking back and actually watching the video i gotta say that despite how much i want to play the mod, there are some thigns that are impossible to ignore (even if it didnt had a paywall):
-The bosses inconsistency:
Compare the creta fight with the recently added demons of ghostflame.
Speaking of the elden beast:
When this boss uses the proyectiles of the sacred relic sword, the waves look blue and exactly the same as those shooted by the holy moonlight greatsword they added, which leds me to believe they are having problems with the particle effects or are just too lazy to fix it.
-The elden variants:
A good concept on its own right (the battles look alright) and an idea that might be inspired by the convergence mod.
-The ridicolous new weapons:
They look pretty on a first glance yet it doesnt go anything beyond that.
-The camera:
I dont know whats with the camera that it stays a bit above the player and the boss, making them both seem a bit tiny which really takes out the imposing intimidating factor these enemies have on the vanilla game (like walking slowly to morgott just to see how much he towers the player).
But the main differences are:
-Both of them were free from the begining and it is completely optional to donate them in order to play the mod.
Heres mt advice on how it could become a more enjoyable experience (just a recomendation):
One effect that was absolutely beautifull is how creta wings seems to be ignited by fire as he did the normal wing attack.
I dont think is necessary for creta to create an actual earthquake once he hits the ground so it is best for him just to touch the ground and get up asterwards, maybe add a bit fire explosion if you want to punish the player from beign greedy (considering they ignored the fire pillars and still got close)
To make it more balance i believe it would be good for cretas health to be slighly drain on this second phase to make things more even for his buffs.
You should do a follow up to this video since the mod is way bigger nowadays. It also uses AI slop🤢
Hasn't the goe creator stated that its behind a paywall because its in early access and will be free when it is finished.
He keeps changing the date of it being free, first when the DLC launched, now when the mod is done.
Unless there is a clear timeline, that is not even remotely a trustworthy promise. Based on this modder's history, expect it to never be "complete" and "free". I doubt SandaSK will suddenly decide they no longer want to make money.
So, are their mods behind a paywall? Do I need to pay 5$ every month or is it enough if I pay 1 time and get all the mods

I notice my comment got removed; how'd that happen?
What was your comment? It could have been automod and I didn't review it in time.

The mod looks like it was thought out by a 5 year old, attacks spin and combo infinitely and have so many random particle effects but without any sort of synergy or clear idea of what the moveset is going for, every weapon becomes the exact same at that point. I was never interested in the mod and after watching this video I'll tell all my Elden Ring friends to never play it, thanks.
they did said it will be free when the mod is complete
But they never said or showed any date for when its going to be complete. Could just be an endlessly incomplete mod
They cannot even fix the jump attack problem triggering twice and they expect you to pay for this garbage? Nah
We can wait together

I also noticed how unbalanced and overall lazy the mod was when I looked at videos of it, like yeah some of the effects and "unique" weapons might be cool but their so obviously reskins of existing weapons. Also why could you start with literally the choice of just getting every mod weapon? That just furthers the unbalance and makes the experience boring and the idea of winning these weapons in fights or discovering them is just reduced to nothing. If the mod was free I might consider playing it for the few power trips or just deleting bosses in seconds. But If I have to pay for this lazy reskin mod? Hell no, in other words:
TL:DR play convergence instead
"Nah-med"
Sounds a lot like Venris xD
answer me this, is there any mod other than "Garden of Shite" that has the Bloodborne guns in it, that, as pathetic as it is to admit, was my sole reason for forking over for the mod, beyond that? i played Clever's for my fancy ass movements with melee weapons.

I mean, you're not wrong on some of that, but come on man you're about as unbiased in your review as a hardline follower of the Golden Order would be towards the treatment of Omens.
As for the other issues:
1) The new classes starting locations areas are all scaled, so when you start the Nomad class for example, the Shunning Grounds difficulty + loot + upgrade materials of that and all subsequent areas and dungeons in the progression are all scaled to cater for that (So for example the Shunning Grounds is tutorial difficulty, Altus is Limgrave, Volcano Manor is Stormveil, etc). Same thing for Nomad; as the medals have been given new locations that work with that specific progression
2) The "Reskinned" weapons are not reskins, we do have a small amount of ported weapons yes, but more than 25+ weapons are all completely new designs created by our team.
@@GardenOfEyes As I said, I installed whatever launcher was provided by your patreon page.
aint reading allat
happy for you tho
or sorry it happened
@@emeraldwolf7920 so you say you're not gonna read all of that while giving a response that's nearly the same length? Isn't that a bit unfair?
@@emeraldwolf7920 btw what were you expecting? Even if the mod was downright terrible no one is forcing you to pay for it. And considering ifs still early in development then of course is gonna have bugs. It's gonna be free once it's over. Maybe is not the dark souls community that you care about but rather your ego based on the funny language you use on your replies.
love your review ;d ^_^
