This mod really was the pinnacle of Minecrafts "Fuck around and find out" era of modding. Anything went back then, and no one gave a shit on what you added as long as the mod worked. Sure, looking back at it, it's easy to see the major issues and inconsistencies, but that's because most mods today usually come with some form of step by step guide on how it functions, and they all follow some form of theme. Back then, you had to figure out everything by scratch, and form was nearly non-existent. Overpowered weapons and armor were the norm, and bullshit mobs with thousands of hit points were par for the course. Take a mod like Draconic Evolution. While it still exists today, back in it's prime it was FAR more OP than it is today. The Chaos Guardian and reactor was capable of killing even creative players, and the Chaos Crystal straight up collapsed the Chaos Island when it was broken. However, the modern day version, while still overpowered in it's own right, has been dulled down by quite a bit. The Chaos Guardian, reactor and crystal can't kill creative players anymore, and the island no longer implodes when the crystal is broken. Not only that, but the tools and weapons do less damage than they did back in the 1.7.10 and 1.12 versions, and have to have modules to even work. (For reference, a pre 1.20 Draconic sword did 40 Damage the second you made it without any upgrades, and had 10 mil in terms of RF storage. 1.20+ versions of the sword only do about 11-13 damage, and need you to craft an energy module to even be capable of working in the first place.)

I vaguely remember playing Orespawn on my family's computer. When I went to fight any of the final bosses, like the King or Queen (I flew around the brown ant dimension until I found the trees that they defended... which I stealthed into early game to get Ultimate armor hehe), it literally lagged so much that it was like my game was time warped and I had to rely on the Big Bertha's (or Royal Guardian Sword's) length to not get killed. Whenever I found a max level challenge dungeon I was actually so happy, since the Prince and Princess were the first companions I came across who I could actually bring around with me without them dying instantly, I spent way too much time in the danger dimension looking for them. I was super hype when I found the Queen dungeon/Princess egg variant. I also remember fighting Mobzilla and being super scared that my Prince (or Princess) pet would die but they're some tanky lil guys. I had a similar experience playing Orespawn as I did playing Terraria or Calamity, the boss progression was unlike anything I had played before (our computer even lagged about the same during the SCal fight lol). It didn't have much of an OST though and it's a shame the mod died before it actually could take off. I mean, every big Minecraft UA-camr at the time was playing it (The Yogscast, SkyDoesMinecraft, SSundee, Crainer, PopularMMO's, DanTDM) but the mod itself just fell off. It really could have been among the greatest mods for any game ever, like Calamity is now, but the author goofed up unfortunately. Despite the completely overpowered mobs, the player was also totally overpowered if they found the correct preparation (most of the gameplay experience came down to running in, getting destroyed, and then looking around for better gear to grind for in NEI or JEI and watching a few UA-cam videos, since the wiki wasn't that detailed), and despite not having much knowledge of the progression, just exploring and finding which crazier things to build up to was really fun. Like, I remember going into the basilisk fight blind (pun intended) with early game gear - since dungeons aren't exclusive of your stage in the game - and getting completely wrecked. But then I came back later after going through the brown ant dimension and getting ultimate gear and immediately destroying it. It felt good, like, the opposite of Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy. I also vividly remember how amazed I was at the Crystal Dimension when that was added lol. I was so amazed that I ditched my gear and just lived in it for a bit.

My first exposure to orespawn was when i watched the creators of Crazy Craft, TheAtlanticCraft, playing their pack. Those are very fond memories for me nowadays. How time flies...
Orespawn is pretty well balanced for me. It takes time to get all the ores and spawn eggs, the dragon pets and gf/bf's are top notch, the dungeons are very challenging but not impossible. The worms can be annoying though. Mantis claw is a good early game weapon, then ruby, then ultimate gear, you get to restart your journey in the crystal dimension before coming back with cool new stuff. The creature cages, instant base, instant bridges, and miner's delight are very useful. The Rat sword is fun. There's the bouncy house full of scorpions. The golden tree, enchanted golden apple cows. It's pretty nice when combined with Chocolate Quest, portal guns, hookshots, or a trimmed version of crazy craft. And making Big Bertha is a typically a long term goal. The king, queen, and mobzilla are the ultimate challenges.
Doing this all In one video is crazy work this used to be a whole 100+ ep series on UA-cam with millions of views on each your the goat man much love for the dedication
Was going through a 2 week Minecraft phase last year and wanted some OP mods and I thought about Orespawn Stumbled onto the dev's website and oh boy what a rabbit hole surprise that was
Orespawn and the original Pixelmon(shoutout if you remember GhostWolf) are emblematic in my memory of the golden days of Minecraft mods. Some people will say it’s Tekkit or Create, but for me that 1.6.4-1.8.9 era was something else.
man great video, cant believe it took me almost 10 years to learn orespawn got dicontuniued because of this "incident" eventually I'm gonna play this again and I cant wait
Having played it myself, the mod is actually well balanced. Like, yeah, there's cheese you can do, but there being a 500 damage sword doesn't matter when it is a required part of progression. Collecting the materials to get it is also fun. All of the bosses have unique ways to fight them, and there are creative ways to do everything. The only problem with the mod is the queen. Her true damage balls basically just require you to die a bunch because you can't counter them. Genuinely, I can't name any other problems with the mod. I think it's better when you include morph mod for flying, but you can do everything without it.
I actually remember when OreSpawn had a pretty solid progression path (pre-King days when the ultimate armor was the best you could get), but as the mod grew it kept introducing ways to skip all the content it was providing, like the dungeons that had King drops, and then it went full stupid when they also added the dungeon that had Queen drops.
This mod was my childhood, everybody played it, the videos of it were everywhere, it was peak modding back in the day. I miss it. And I hate the fact I forgot about it.
Imma be honest, brutalfly (and caterkiller by proxy) was and is always gonna be my favorite boss of the mod, despite it just being a reskin of mothra, I don’t care the name is just so corny it’s good, plus the colors I like
Man I really miss when old mods were just fun additions for minecraft with no standards or care for balancing. Nowadays people criticize mods for being “unbalanced and ruins the gameplay experience” whenever they see a mod that changes the gameplay in any small way whatsoever.
I originally wasn't gonna subscribe, but after I saw THAT subscriber ratio, and then looked at your views/subscriber ratio, kinda felt like an obligation. Man actually has a 1% subscriber ratio.
Isn't that always the case due to integer over/underflowing? Infinity+1 overflows to -Infinity or 0, while Infinity-1 gets to keep its value (as long as it's not _literally_ infinity, that just always returns either Infinity or NaN)
Isn't that always the case due to integer over/underflowing? Infinity+1 overflows to -Infinity or 0, while Infinity-1 gets to keep its value (as long as it's not literally infinity, that just always returns either Infinity or NaN)
@@notme8232 It's not literal infinity. The infinity +1 sword is commonly attributed to a sword that is obscenely powerful, most likely the best of its respective source, but it takes a shit-ton of work to get your hands on it. The infinity -1 sword is the sword that is almost as catastrophic as the infinity +1 sword while requiring far less work. Big Bertha, Orespawn's Infinity +1 Sword, is weaker than The Royal Guardian, Orespawn's Infinity -1 Sword. That's what I meant. That Orespawn, in its perfectly balanced way, made the blade you spend a good portion of time going after, is weaker than a blade you can just cheese your way into obtaining.
Why did i think the thumbnail was a frame of modern composite armour being penetrated by a dart? My eyes may need to be checked and my brain cleansed of warthunder
Yeah, honestly I never saw the appeal of this mod. It’s so random and all over the place and has absolutely no regards for balance. It’s just big numbers that end up being meaningless. It wants to be interesting so bad that it loops back to being, well… boring. But you guys managed to make it entertaining(and the editing is top notch) so good vid overall ;)
Its unbalanced at the start, but once you get to the major bosses the, it feel pretty balanced. But i do agree, the dungeons are so unbalanced, but the current developer of chaos awakens are fixing balancing issues.
This was my favorite mod when I was a kid. Had the author had a little bit more faith in Microsoft and not gone wacko mode over nothing, it easily could've still been one of the top rated mods to this day with updates and optimization ofc.
@MykrasOtherStuff In that case, not much. Mostly mod reviews and stuff. I do recall one where the guy just keeps dying every time he tries to progress, but that's an old one. I enjoyed the video tho, maybe a bit too fast-paced imo but still enjoyed it nonetheless.
Orespawn is the story of a man who made a mod that could of been #1 in all of modding but fell off like crazy because the developer was actually insane It's sad to see really, it could of been something amazing but no other mod ever really took it's place since the golden era of minecraft is long over
orespawn is the definition of powercreep. it feels like a 12 year old's anime roleplayer phase was distilled into a mod. not that that makes it bad, it can actually be really fun since you'd basically have no reason to use a lot of the vanilla materials, encouraging you to use the new ones instead

The king, queen, and mobzilla are the ultimate challenges.
i might try regular crazy craft some time

Calamity man jumpscare in the first minute of the video.
Was going through a 2 week Minecraft phase last year and wanted some OP mods and I thought about Orespawn
Stumbled onto the dev's website and oh boy what a rabbit hole surprise that was
Y’all have great chemistry. Love the comedic timing
The creator of this mod being potentially schizophrenic checks outa looking back at it
Orespawn and the original Pixelmon(shoutout if you remember GhostWolf) are emblematic in my memory of the golden days of Minecraft mods. Some people will say it’s Tekkit or Create, but for me that 1.6.4-1.8.9 era was something else.
I'd like to comment on the video, but your music choices are incredible (looking at Creo, Noisestorm and Camellia)
I REMEMBER THIS
Watched a Sundee playthrough, never realized how ridiculous it was back when I was a kid
NAHHHHHH GITGUD DOING AN ORESPAWN VIDEO?? Now that's what I call perfectly balanced😂
man great video, cant believe it took me almost 10 years to learn orespawn got dicontuniued because of this "incident" eventually I'm gonna play this again and I cant wait
12:39 i didn't know gitgudwo is a furry
That intro is peak nostalgia 😭
Reminds me of the old gamer intros
Having played it myself, the mod is actually well balanced. Like, yeah, there's cheese you can do, but there being a 500 damage sword doesn't matter when it is a required part of progression. Collecting the materials to get it is also fun. All of the bosses have unique ways to fight them, and there are creative ways to do everything. The only problem with the mod is the queen. Her true damage balls basically just require you to die a bunch because you can't counter them.
Genuinely, I can't name any other problems with the mod. I think it's better when you include morph mod for flying, but you can do everything without it.
Brought me back to the days watching dan and thinknoodles' "crazycraft" series
The friend being so impressed and happy with everything was so wholesome
True legends remember when Stampy, Ibalisticsquid and AshDubh played crazycraft
@pastaman7278 i was only watch popularmmos and dantdm around then sorry 😔
yeah... nostalgia
Oh man, orespawn, what a nostalgia trip
gitgud sounded like itadori from middle east
Man, I miss how popular back then was this mod. So much nostalgia...
To this day, it's my favourite Minecraft mod!
Another perfectly balanced masterpiece
Lmao i did NOT expect to see GitHud here, thought he just made calamity mod “perfectly balanced” shotposts
that camellia jumpscare at 13:00 lol
I didn't expected at all lmao
That surprised me
I actually remember when OreSpawn had a pretty solid progression path (pre-King days when the ultimate armor was the best you could get), but as the mod grew it kept introducing ways to skip all the content it was providing, like the dungeons that had King drops, and then it went full stupid when they also added the dungeon that had Queen drops.
Oh shit crab champions music used? Hell yeah! That caught my attention, and the vid quality was really nice, ill defo be sticking around, keep it up!
5:10 “my gay fella” what
This mod was my childhood, everybody played it, the videos of it were everywhere, it was peak modding back in the day. I miss it. And I hate the fact I forgot about it.
Imma be honest, brutalfly (and caterkiller by proxy) was and is always gonna be my favorite boss of the mod, despite it just being a reskin of mothra, I don’t care the name is just so corny it’s good, plus the colors I like
0:45 I wanted to comment "What if you just dug under" and then saw you dig under. Neat
From the big old content mods you could play is the "advent of ascension mod" aka nevermine, haven't seen many people finish it
"Spawn Nightmare"
*proceeds to get an ad*
Very accurate.

The old-school. Intro just sent shokewaves or nostalgia through my body
Man I really miss when old mods were just fun additions for minecraft with no standards or care for balancing. Nowadays people criticize mods for being “unbalanced and ruins the gameplay experience” whenever they see a mod that changes the gameplay in any small way whatsoever.

Orespawn. The one place where the Infinity +1 Sword is weaker than the Infinity -1 Sword.
@@krlllx Bro, did you legit just copy-paste my comment?

The new version of chaos awakens is so far much more balanced but it’s also unfinished
Well you are boring lol

Its unbalanced at the start, but once you get to the major bosses the, it feel pretty balanced.
But i do agree, the dungeons are so unbalanced, but the current developer of chaos awakens are fixing balancing issues.
Fun fact: the modder made a "sequel" that uses it's own engine, called "Danger Zone"
It's somehow even jankier

I don't like mods, but you had so much fun, i give it an well earned upvote👍
This was my favorite mod when I was a kid. Had the author had a little bit more faith in Microsoft and not gone wacko mode over nothing, it easily could've still been one of the top rated mods to this day with updates and optimization ofc.
really wasn't expecting gitgudwo to be here
"But have you ever seen anyone do a full playthrough of it?"
Crazycraft series back in the day:
i meant JUST orespawn, its an entirely different experience
@MykrasOtherStuff In that case, not much. Mostly mod reviews and stuff. I do recall one where the guy just keeps dying every time he tries to progress, but that's an old one.
I enjoyed the video tho, maybe a bit too fast-paced imo but still enjoyed it nonetheless.
Creo music in the intro! Subbing for that
Orespawn is the story of a man who made a mod that could of been #1 in all of modding but fell off like crazy because the developer was actually insane

orespawn is the definition of powercreep. it feels like a 12 year old's anime roleplayer phase was distilled into a mod. not that that makes it bad, it can actually be really fun since you'd basically have no reason to use a lot of the vanilla materials, encouraging you to use the new ones instead
