My husband has been looking at this for a while but the 42mm was a little big. This size I think fits more people. I've heard so many times, "If this was in a 40 I would buy it right now" - well I just did for him, I hope he likes it. Thank you for your review.
Just brought my Escapement time PT5000 Flieger Type B this week has everything I was looking for in a watch legibility, lume, Screw Down Onion Crown. Was looking at Laco and Archimede watches but this in NZ $ with taxes was just under 300 which to me is great value. Really looking at getting the set a Type A dial. I have a 6 3/4 Wrist and have no problem wearing a large watch currently wearing a 44mm Hand wind 6498
Awesome! I already liked the old version but this one even is a huge upgrade. The flat crystal and the quite considerable case thickness were the biggest negatives. This one looked so much better on your wrist! Excellent review James, but I would have liked to see whether the crown is still a screw down crown.
An excellent update. Take a good watch and make it even better. This should be a lesson to a lot of brands out there. Another great review, it's great to see the two versions next to each other.
Couple things these reviews did not show me about the less expensive version.....this is a MAN'S watch. This is not a dainty little wrist decoration. The modest-sized dial and case don't stand up and say HUGE on the wrist, but it's SOLID--and it wears quite nicely, but this is a rugged beater of a watch. RT calls it a tool watch, and...that's a pretty good description. The strap fits this as it's a good bit thicker than any leather strap I've seen. It's comfortable and required no break-in. It actually fits a need I didn't expect it to....I figured it was just a nice casual flieger, but it fits the niche for a rugged field watch too, and the 30 bar WR makes it better than most. Tough little bugger that wears nicely too. (Relative Time sent me here).
wow, I really like the new version a lot! They changed the exact things that I didn’t like. The 40mm dial is perfect in my opinion. And the fact that they reduced the thickness is also a nice touch! And who doesn’t love a display caseback? I might go for that one on the next Aliexpress sale. 👌🏻
I've been late on following the watch reviews but this one, as usual, is excellent. I have the NH35 and the nuanced differences with the newer Escapement Time Flieger B were very interesting to see close-up. I find it shocking that all the differences were small but positive changes in a brand/'homage'/price point that a lot of people thumb their noses at. These manufacturers do a lot of things the rest of the world won't, or can't, do.
The lug to lug is the massive change and 40-20 brings more balance. I just miss the flight behind the caseback because i feel its a bit unique for escapement time. I have the 42mm and pt5000. No issues with the lug to lug although my wrist is only 6.7". Below 52mm is still acceptable to me. But I am tempted on the dome glass. Really love it on flieger. Cheers
Just waiting for mine to arrive. 2 weeks so far- sat for almost a week in Canada customs. Thanks for the review. The movement is another ETA clone.. They also list a type A dial in this size and PT5000 movement. There was a glitch with ordering. I ordered a type B but the confirmation showed a type A. I messaged them immediately and they responded. Still waiting to see what I get. EDIT. Watch (type B) arrived and so far it's proving to be the most accurate mechanical watch I have. It's within a second in 3 days - unbelieveable.
Definitely liking the changes (love an onion crown, reduced thickness, smaller size and upgraded movement) .. I'll have to see if they do a Type A flieger too.
I very much doubt they’re heat treating their seconds hand. The colour doesn’t look authentic. In other words too perfect in all regards. I’m assuming they use chemical bluing to do this. I’m a qualified heat treatment tradesman.
I received mine over the weekend. And it fits my 6.5” wrist. But not on the stock strap. Wasn’t a big deal as I find it horrendous. Tried it on a nylon, leather and silicone straps I have and it fits perfectly. Manually winding has a lot of feedback and is quite noisy. Hoping this is normal for the movement. Because it’s a little off putting. Overall I find it to be a great watch and hoping there are no issues w/ the movement down the line.
I just bought one last week and received it today and it is the pt5000 supposedly with old case back and crown. The case is also larger at over 42mm and 12.5mm
Great job with the comparison. The old version was way too big for my wrist, esp. L2L size so I went for their flieger/chrono with slightly smaller measurements (also because I really like that hybrid concept). Wasn't expecting this to happen, really good news. I could be without the display case, since the PT5000 isn't that exciting to look at and I like the engraved plane. But a high-beat movement is always welcome, and I dig the domed crystal. It's twice as expensive than the old version though, so I'll see what's gonna happen during next sale.
The chrono is great too. As is their dress watch. Both of which you'll see in the background in the watch roll. I'm with you on the display caseback though. I'd have preferred the engraved I've too.
I'd just gotten the previous model but I sent it back in order to get this one instead. I much prefer the changes they made to this version. I'm gonna order that riveted strap you recommend too. Thanks for the heads up!!!!
I like the slimmed down case but would’ve preferred keeping the Diameter before to keep it large and easy to read. I have a hand would version 44mm Type B, but wish I had the Blues hands like this version. Really class it up
Is seems the dial, crystal and hands are all the same dimensions as before. I guess only the overall diameter of the case was reduced. Try pausing the video at 5:31 and comparing the bezels. All it has lost was steel, reducing about 1.2mm in radius all around (2.4mm in diameter).
Already have the Type B V1 and the Quartz dress piece from Escapement Time. Though V1 is chunky and big, I really like that it feels like a solid tool watch. And now you have got me thinking about getting the V2 flieger but Type A this time. The flieger Chrono and the new black conquest homage are also on my wish list. Pretty soon ET is going to be dominating my collection.
I think they should've kept the NH35, that would keep the price down too. This one looks nice enough, but if we're being honest, the main attraction about the first one was the price.
Beautiful new model. I think that this will be even more popular due to the 40mm case, but I still prefer the larger version 1 as it keeps closer to the look of larger German pilot watches. I do love that new crown though 😍👍
Great review and comparison. It looks like they have made some significant improvements with only a very subtle effect on the appearance. I would be much more likely to choose the newer version.
I just received one today but it was a pt5000 with the old case. I wish I had known they had a new version as I would have preferred the crown, curved crystal and maybe the display back. It wouldn’t have been so bad if I could have got the A version but they only had the B available so I had to take that. If it had been a choice between the old A and new B I would have taken the A but I got the worst of both, lol.
Looks like they made some great changes, especially with the movement. Still definitely one of the best bang for the buck out there. Quick question, if you get a watch to review to keep, does that count as a paid promotion? Thanks and keep up the great work.
In the eyes of UA-cam it counts as a paid promotion I think. That why I always explain the situation in the beginning of the reviews, just to be clear.

Got to love a good type b fliegr, the only thing that feels like a retrograde step on the previous version is the loss of the case back. The size difference doesn’t bother me, as I have gorilla wrists. Other than that the new version is all gravy, good lume . If you wanted to sell the old one, would be interested… Chris
Yeah I agree with you on the caseback too. I might end up selling the older model at some point. But I think my Dad my have his eye on it though. So we'll see.
After seeing this it will be the only flieger on my radar so I’ll probably wait for the ali Sale and get one ☝️👍always been too big for me but that’s perfect
It might be a bit big. I have a 7" wrist for comparison. I'd suggest figuring out what the limit is for your wrist size when it comes to lug to lug. Then you can check that against that I measured this lug to lug as.
Is it just me or is the "5" minute marker noticeably higher on the dial than the "55"? I am torn between type A and type B dial but with that misalignment I don't think I could enjoy this B dial. It looks off in every photo I've seen.
I didn’t notice this in person. But it does look that way in their pics. Now you have me worried. Will have to look when I get home. If it’s off it’s something I will not be able to unsee.
Looking at some other photos, it looks like some Laco models including some vintage originals have the slightly higher 5. So maybe it is true to some original designs? Newer ones like Stowas are aligned, though.
Well I have a 7" wrist, so you should be able to figure out how it would wear on your wrist if you check out the wrist shot at the end of the video. As for whether it's worth the price. That's a difficult one. I depends on whether you mind paying the extra for the PT5000 over the NH35 in the previous version. I personally think it is though.
Very good watch review. Overall I prefer the crystal and slimmer size of the newer version, but the movement is too ugly for a display back. Either a decorated movement or if not, an engraved case. I know that you're an honest reviewer, so just for future reference, that is not a true sapphire crystal. It's likely only got a sapphire coat which will wear away over time. That's a coated mineral crystal. Not calling you a liar, you're not, but if Escapement Time is calling this a sapphire crystal, they're lying. Just some pointers. If your diamond selector is at room temperature, I assume it is, you should be getting a very minimum of 3 to 4 orange bars. For very high quality sapphire it will almost hit red. This is definitely not a real sapphire. You should say it's likely sapphire coated. As you say, keep it honest.
You know, I actually commented a couple of times when he sees one or two bars of orange and declared it to be a sapphire crystal that he was wrong about that, but he seems to ignore the information and still say it's real sapphire in subsequent videos where only a bar or two of orange is showing. As you said, that is not sapphire crystal so maybe he's not as honest as his UA-cam handle suggests.
@@brianmsahin Ah OK. He shouldn't be ignoring that, and he's not the only one. However I have seen some honest watch reviewers saying the low bar count is pointing to just coated mineral glass. Maybe he isn't as honest as he says!🤣
Thing is about fliegers is they're supposed to be oversized, considering the originals are up to 55 I think 42 is ideal for my 7inch wrist, sorry to mix imperial and metric, 17cm and 42 nods to the original design, 40mm drops a design element, after all Marlins are 44, im tempted to go there....
I guess I'm in the minority here but I'm fine with that, as I prefer the previous Seiko driven Escapement Time Fliegers over the newer and slightly smaller BT5000 driven models. As far as the difference in case diameter, a 2mm difference is exactly the width of the minute hand on either model so I don't see that as an improvement as much as simply a slight difference. If it was a 38mm case now that would be a significant difference but 40mm, not so much. Plus, and just to me, a Flieger is supposed to look like a big watch. Hell, the real Fliegers were big 50mm and sometime larger chunks! The greater difference is obviously in the movements and while some may think this is a major improvement I might suggest a couple arguments to the contrary. The HK PT5000 is not a true ETA product but merely a Chinese clone so it's not like I'm really getting a true ETA movement now is it. And with Chinese clones what could possibly go wrong, right? OK, it's a "High Beat" model. But is that really that big a deal? High beat movements work harder because they work faster so wear is slightly greater and the sweep difference between the two if perceptible at all is minimal at best. The Seiko NH movements in both my Type A and my Type B are NH38A models and not the aforementioned NH35's as advertised. There have to be tens of thousands of these Seiko NHxx class movements out there in hundreds of micro brands and they're recognized work horse movements and almost bullet proof. Plus they're genuine Seiko movements not clones. The NH38A loses the date wheel so it has less to do behind the scene so to speak, has a 41 hour power reserve compared to the HK PT5000's 38 hours, and is arguably as accurate out of the box as the HK. Considering on top of all that, the Escapement Flieger with the HK PT5000 is $50 more, I just can't consider that a great big deal.
That's a fair point. I've got quite a few watches with PT5000 movements now. Some of which I've had for a year now. Still going strong no issues. Just out of interest, where do you stand on the SW200? As that is also a clone of the ETA.
How does it come about to pay for half a watch ? They contacted you and asked if you want to pay half to review one of there watches or are you asking them for products which they'll give you at half price ?
Because I was the first to review an Escapement Time watch (which I bought). Funnily enough it was the 42mm version of the Flieger. So I've built up a relationship with the store owner a bit.
Great review as always. For me, the NH35 version is better, as this type of watch is generally used in activity and field use so the better water resistance is more important and a high beat movement is unnecessary for this type of watch. The display back is showing a movement that's not very pretty. A nice engraved back would be better. Btw, One orange bar does NOT mean that the crystal is a true sapphire. At best it's a mineral crystal with a micro-thin sapphire coating. To be sapphire, it should have a high reading.
Oy mate you've transitioning from glowing to shining to full on radiating light in the talking head portion of the vid. And there's some weird pulsating of light/shadow. Somebody with video editing experience might explain it better.
I've got a few watches with this movement in now. No issues with any of them so far. Also its a clone of the ETA 2824, the same as the SW200. So it should be an issue really.
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR I bought a pt5k based watch from San Martin that has the rotor sticking problem and it spins when you turn the crown as has been reported as a problem with the ETA 2824. I have quite a number of ETA 2824 based watches and haven’t experienced this problem with any over at least 20 years. San Martin on alixpress asked for a video of the problem so I removed the case back and recorded the rotor turning with the crown in all positions as well as refusing to move alone in both directions when I tried making the rotor swing with a spot of blue tack. San Martin said this was normal and refused to repair or replace it. I had previously bought another dearer San Martin from a wrwatches with the sw200 which also had this problem but not quite as bad. Wrwatches took it back and repaired it though. Needless to say I won’t be buying another San Martin as I have no confidence in their QC. I guess it would probably be okay to trust them with a nh35 based watch as that movement is like the ak47 of the watch world. These high beat movements need proper handling and lubrication and it seems you can’t just buy them, throw them straight into a case and hope for the best. I’ll see how this escapement time with a pt5000 lasts.

@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR after I discovered this I looked it up and they can be bought for around 20usd! I'm gonna buy a few for my next builds. Nh35 what? 😆
@@guybuddy Damn are they really cheap now? 😲
GreAt dimensions, good movement - finally buying one!
Oh heck that price though
@@roydoorenspleet1548 You are getting a hi-beat PT5000 movement in it this time though.
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR true... Would have been just as happy or perhaps happier still with nh35 or with just a slight premium the Seagull high beat equivalent st2130.. hmm.
Yeah this puts it near 180 when all is said and done - thats pretty much double. Perhaps on a Sale though eh
..yeah I can't see myself nót buying one now no lol.. but definitely need the push from a Sale now ^^
Got to love a good type b fliegr, the only thing that feels like a retrograde step on the previous version is the loss of the case back.
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR no harm asking. Really enjoy your channel
@@chrisr8112 Let me know how you get on. Thanks 👍
Does anyone know where I can get one with mineral crystal? I can't stand the reflection of sapphire without AR coating.
That is a much better size for a slender wristed gent like myself 👌👍great review
Are you tempted to get one then?
After seeing this it will be the only flieger on my radar so I’ll probably wait for the ali Sale and get one ☝️👍always been too big for me but that’s perfect
Nice review dude 😎😎 think these upgrades are good choices 👍👍
Cheers mate. Yeah I agree.
I'd actually prefer this size with the NH35 at the price of the 42mm version.
It would be good if the gave you the option.
Is it me or is 5 positioned slightly higher on the dial than 55? I don't see this on any other b-uhr I know.
it's a great watch👏. if my wrist is about 15.5cm/6.1 inch is it ok?
Newer ones like Stowas are aligned, though.
that new one is fantastic
I think so too.
Nice review! Does it have the ghost date position?
Thanks. Yes it does have a ghost date position.
Hmm, I like v1 more despite I tend to like smaller watches.
What is it about the V1 you prefer then?
Hi, do tou think this watch would wear on my 6,5 inch flat wrist? Do you think it is worth the price?
Well I have a 7" wrist, so you should be able to figure out how it would wear on your wrist if you check out the wrist shot at the end of the video.
As for whether it's worth the price. That's a difficult one. I depends on whether you mind paying the extra for the PT5000 over the NH35 in the previous version. I personally think it is though.
Sold!! I love the new size.
Did you go Type-A or Type-B?
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR Type B! I have a Stowa A and wanted a less expensive B. Excited for this.
You'll have to let me know how it compares when it arrives.
They need AR for double dome crystal, that will become perfect
Yeah that's the only thing missing now really.
I was totally of guard this whole video, by that beautiful red dial watch, what is it?
It's an Orient Kamasu. I bought it after reviewing this one, lent in by a subscriber.

awesome watch!
I’m torn between this or a orient defender 2 which one would you choose??
Personally I'd go for this, as the specs are just a lot better.
Go with a brand name mate! Ali watches are ok at the start but just don't fill that void!
Have they stopped selling the previous NH35 versions?
I don't think so.
Great size, great specs
All for a good price too.
Waiting for my 40mm type A to arrive
Had you already ordered one?
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR Yup yesterday
Thanks 👍👍👍👍👍
I'm glad you liked it. I hope it was helpful.
The lack of AR and the reflections are a big of turn off from what is an otherwise excellent update.
That's a fair point.
That's a fair point.
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR Don't own one, but aren't they pretty much a cobon copy of the 2824/2 since ETA's patent rights have expired?
The strap doesn't really make much difference I have to change it it's too small to fit around my wrist
Ok, fair enough.
Стекло не сапфир на новой модели?
Да, на новом тоже сапфир.
they did a much better job on the case and crown but they should have stayed with nh38
They really did. Or perhaps offer the option of both movements maybe.
Yes
Have you been waiting for this one then?
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR - Yes
@@donnyboon2896 I hope you like the video and it was useful then.
Its sapphire the reading was fine!
Oy mate you've transitioning from glowing to shining to full on radiating light in the talking head portion of the vid. And there's some weird pulsating of light/shadow. Somebody with video editing experience might explain it better.
Yeah I'm not sure what happened there. Sorry about that. I'll try and figure it out and fix it for the next review.
but I'm quite doubt with the movement's longevity tbh
I've got a few watches with this movement in now. No issues with any of them so far. Also its a clone of the ETA 2824, the same as the SW200. So it should be an issue really.
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR understandable
@@murph8411 I'm sorry to hear that. Did you try opening a dispute?
