A nicely done review. I had this NH35 version a couple of years ago but eventually sold it as I was adjusting my collection. I thought it was great value for the money then and it's still great value for the money now. Another review of a different Escapement Time watch introduced me to the story behind the guy building the watches. When I saw that they offered the B Dial Flieger with the Chinese PT5000 movement I figured it was time to put a Flieger back in the collection. On a historical note, the A dials were typically worn by pilots and the B dials were given to Navigators because the minutes and seconds were pretty critical to put them on the right track. You never want to be at the back end of a bomber formation going over your target.
OOh there you go, I learn something new everyday. This is a good piece of information in terms of Type b dial going to navigators, that actually makes way more sense. I might need to check out this review where they talk about the creator of escapement time. Its actually super interesting that one person can do so much and provide so much value.
I enjoyed watching your review. I think it is good that you didn't overload the video with too many technical information. Also it is pleasant to listen how you speak. Thank you, good job.
This is thé affordable Flieger type B watch that comes close to the original design (incl. the crown). Strap is ok for the price, but I replaced it for a lether strap with nails ( like the original). This is my tool watch for over a year now and I still love it! I don't have a problem with the screwed crown. Great review.
Love mine, and I see they are all sold out now. And the quartz one sold out too. Really nice dealing with Escapement Time. I heard it's just one guy. Which is amazing.
Yeh its definitely a great buy, I wouldn't go for a quartz one, especially since this one is only $100USD, there really is no reason not to have a mechanical version of the Escapement Time Flieger!
Much appreciated! I think I'll need to dig deeper into the budget friendly watches, didn't really start looking at them until after this Flieger, so keep an eye out for future reviews.
I just found out about this watch. I went to AliEx to order a few days ago but found this model is now Quartz only, so I ordered the new 40mm version with new movement and domed crystal. Have you had a chance to see that version, and if so, thoughts on which you prefer? Thanks for the great review!
Great job. I subscribed and look forward to more reviews. The watch is on my short list for the next Ali sale! I really liked your video but thought it could have been a bit shorter and tighter. Thank you.
I love mine as well. I think for the hour legibility, even when the hand is blocking the actual number, I never go by that. I always see the minute number it's pointing to and divide by 5 in my head. It's so fast that it's almost like just seeing the number, but that's how I do it when I look at a Type B flieger dial.
Fair call on using the minute track instead of the hour track, definitely works better that way, I think as this was my first type B flieger (well not counting the SNK809 I have as I am unsure if that can be classified as such), I had to get used to the dial overall.
New sub. I was very impressed (in a good way :-) with your presentation. Keep it up and you’ll give Tristano and Archie (lol, 😵💫) a run for their money. Fine review. I will explore your vids and set the Bell!
I also think it's a watch to wear, at least ideally, for specific times. I wouldn't go everyday with it, it's more of a cold weather watch for me, with long sleeves or a jacket/coat. When it's on your arm with short sleeves, you notice the size more, but it's a tool watch and I've even wear it over sleeves if anything haha. Experimenting with different strap combos would drastically alter how good the overall look would be, like a bund strap or leather/canvas combo.
100%, I tried to wear it as my daily for this review, but with the look and missing date complication, it really is a sometimes or occasional watch and can't be your daily driver. Definitely a tool watch and a damn good one at that. I gotta get myself a bund strap to check it out.
Also think the plane is a WW2 Messchershmitt BF109... I think.! Also the grinding is the same on my crown but I thought it was the hand winding mechanism turning as the crown went in?
OOH, thanks for the heads up, that gives a bit of context as to what is on the case, it also makes a bit more sense now. As for the grinding, it was definitely the threading that was like metal grinding on metal, not a good feeling, gotta add lube
I own one, and its ridiculously good for the money. I just wish it came in 40mm. It's nor a field watch, it's a pilot watch. Re the crown thread try waxed dental floss
100% I love the parachute strap, really changes the look, I know it's not what they are normally on but it just really changes the look overall for me. A little more unique.
Regarding leather straps, I am surprised at how many reviews talk about the leather being stiff. So are many leather shoes, before they are broken in. Pretty much anything made from leather has the potential to be stiff initially. Most straps can be broken in quickly by just bending them a bit. Personally I hate droopy straps! To me, they should have a bit of suppleness while maintaining their shape.
@@TheChirpyPanda my wrist is only 6 and a quarter, but it is very flat, when i tried on an omega speedmaster pro i just managed to get away with it so i could just scrape by with this too i think, gorgeous watch for the money
I'm waiting for mine to come this week. I ordered type A instead of type B. Even though type B look more interesting but I found type A is more legible to me. I also have a small wrist (6.5 inches) so really hope it can make it
I kind of feels this way as well to be honest, the Type B was supposed to be easy to read at a glance, but my experience is that, perhaps at the 42mm case size is still too small for the complexity of the dial to be legible at a glance. The type A Escapement Time , with the ETA 2824 movement and a simpler designer is probably the way to go. For the price, I think it is an absolutely steal.
@@TheChirpyPanda I've received my watch today. Playing with it and have to say it's definitely one of the best you can get from aliexpress for $100. The 42mm size really push my limit a little bit, would love it more if it's down to 40mm. And I think I chose the right dial, type A is much more legible than type B
@@thekhuong I agree, a 40mm would've been better for my tiny wrist, but having said that, the legibility is not very good already so making it smaller might make the dial even harder to read, atleast for me
when you screw the crown in you are still winding the mainspring....this is what you feel...put the watch to your ear and you can hear this...this is typical of the seiko nh35 and the R35.
You could be right, I'll still just need to slap some silicone on the threading just in case though, but if I still feel the metal feeling, then I'll know its the winding mechanic.
Good watch, good value but beware the lume fades too quickly. I bought the watch for these Review but o habe come back and realized he does boy mentions anything about the lume.
You go for a type B-flieger when you need a watch where the minutes are more important than the hours. Once you start fiddling with the original design to make the watch your only watch you probably want a date complication and more. Considering the gripes you had with this watch, a Seiko snk807 would be perfect for you, and it's just about the same price.
Without meaning any disrespect, if you have a rough time figuring out which number comes between 6 and 8, l agree, you should stick to using your phone to tell the time.
around 11:30: I don't think I've used the actual numbers on a watch to discern the time since I was a kid, so to me it's quite a moot point that the hour hand covers the actual hour number, and yes: I'd be able to tell the time at a glance. I really do not get that objection to be honest.
Ofcourse it was more of a subjective observation for me and in this case didn't apply to you, but for me, at a glance, with the smaller hour hand overall, it is already hard to tell the time (specifically at a glance). But this is more so criticism of the Type B Flieger style more than this specific watch. Each to their own
Type B fliegers are for navigators. Type A are for pilots. Navigators are more interested in minutes so their watch dial is oriented away from the hours.

Good, frank review. Totally agree on your comment re selecting a movement without a date if you're not going to have a date on the dial. Cheers,

The type B is used more for navigation so minutes are more important to a navigator than the hours. Hents, the type A is used by the pilot.
