Professional watchmaker here, the reason we wear finger cards instead of full gloves is one to prevent our hands from getting sweaty and then for that sweat to drip onto the movement or work table, and second having separate finger cuts preserves a lot of our manual dexterity for manipulating the screwdrivers and tweezers and everything. Finger cuts but I would be immensely uncomfortable if I had to wear full gloves.
@@eliasgermer8762 I have over 20 Casios myself, from basic F91W to G-Shocks. I love them, especially as beaters because you can’t kill them. My fave is the G9000 Mudman in olive drab.
This is such a perfect hobby for a lot of people and the fashion industry. Because it’s gonna bring creativity to the people who wants to be “original” and “unique”. I’m loving the idea of a reselling base market when you obviously not selling knockoffs but original pieces for an affordable prices. There is a lot it can be done with this hobby on a good way of course that’s gonna benefit a lot of people.
Something I did for my watch (and later the watch I did for my wife) is to create a logo and then make a metallic-like high quality sticker of it. I had to order 20. It was not cheap, but now it has a logo we create for our wedding on our watches, and it looks amazing. Strongly recommend if you do not want to put a fake brand as a logo as you do.
Dude you are the man. I love collecting low budget/medium watches. It never crossed my mind to built them myself. Now im ordering a lot of Parts because of you
I've built 3 watches so far, Elliot's videos are what helped me the most as a beginner. My latest build was a Chronograph using a VK63a quartz movement, that might be a good one to do a video on. I've resisted doing an Explorer 2 build because I own a real one. I have to say, that Ali case looks really good compared to the genuine one.
I recently built my first GMT watch after watching a few of these videos and it's so awesome, definitely going to build more. Bent the seconds hand pretty badly as my pusher was too wide and it just bent both ends down but I was able to bend it back and finally get it in, should be a lot easier next time and I'll make sure to get spares which will make the process feel a lot less nervous, part of the issue I'm sure was the fact that I only had one shot at everything And using the finger cots instead of gloves definitely makes sense, my palms were so damn sweaty after having latex gloves on for like 4 hours while I was figuring out everything. Obviously it shouldn't take that long to do one watch but if I had to work on watches all day I wouldn't want to have the gloves on from 9 to 5
My mother is a Jewler and always encouraged me to get into Horology / watch macking ... seeing this is pushing me over the edge to make a start, great video and that a stunning watch, I can't believe the components are from Alliexpress!
Excellent piece of work. You seem very happy having a go at all these watches. One small point is dont touch the rubber sealing ring at the end with your cots on your fingers or you will spread grease all over the watch which is what the cots are designed to prevent. Keep up the good work.
1) Get some Rodico putty to clean off any dust or debris that isn't easily removed with the air or duster. 2) have a clean/new microfiber cloth at the ready 3) Put the stem in to fit the dial, so you know the correct calendar date for the window, before you remove dial feet. 4) Use some Loctite (low strength) to screw the stem into the crown beforehand...and let it dry. 5) clean and lubricate the case crown threads 6) you need to test the crown stem length with the GMT and HOUR hands lightly installed, to check the functions.
MAMACOO is one of my favorite watch manufacturers they do offer beautifull dials, good workmanship & moovements. That smooth sweeping second hand is truly mesmerizing!
I like it, the only thing I would have done differently is either use a dial with no text at all, or get a brand name printed on it (Elliot Coll is a plausible name for a microbrand), because I think having text only at the bottom makes it look like the brand name is missing rather than being intentionally absent.
Built a gmt like your white one with the yellow hand, and I made mine with a black dial and gold hands with a green gmt hand and all I can say is I am speechless. I haven't stopped looking at it since I've built it and truly enjoyed the whole process
Just made mine following your video. Looks great, and really happy with it. No second hand though, and hands so delicate they are a bit rough. Couldn't get second hand to fit on the tiny post. Need to buy a loupe, and buy some additional hands. Was fun and challenging to do.
For a screw-down crown I believe you should measure from the end of the threaded crown tube. When screwing down the crown, if you encounter resistance before it's fully screwed down, it means you need to shave a bit more off the stem. I agree with cutting a bit less off than you measured, then making fine adjustments w/ diamond files or w/e you've got. I take my sweet time with this task because it's a guaranteed win w/ some patience. Also Loctite 290 to properly secure the crown on the stem.
you're so inspiring, I also bought all the parts and followed one of your videos and I'm so happy, proud and pleased with the final result, I love these videos, keep going!
Beautiful job and you now have a watch that will last for many years powered by that stellar Seiko movement. I too have the same GMT and love it. AliExpress is giving us watch makers a fun time with all these options. I have several more coming soon.
These are so inspiring. I love watching you make these watches. And it’s so infectious. I asked Santa for a watch making set. I’m going to try it out myself. 🎉
Picked up a MAMACOO's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
Recently bought a Cronos L6006 (Cpt. Willard design language) with Bronze case/bezel, sunburst black dial (no logo), gold-applied indices, and the PT5000 movement (28.8K bph). Price was US$133. Incl. sapphire domed crystal and rated 200m water resit. I bought the gold applied S logo with italicized "Automatic", from AliEx, for another US$8. Terrific watch for the money.
It would be awesome to show us your whole collection now that you've done a few of these so we can see how they are holding up! and your thoughts on what you've learned through making all of these.
No need to fix dial to cut stem to crown length. Screw the stem securely in to the crown before you measure the difference between the crown tube and the inside is then your cut length, measured with callipers. I hope this helps .
Can’t beat gold polished Roman numerals that sparkle like jewels in the sunlight. Loving the sun ray dial man that pops!MAMACOO watches. What a beautiful subtle piece.
I love watching your videos. They really make me want to build my own watch! Once I have more of a disposable income it's one of the first things I'm gonna do
Elliot, I love the videos you make, and I think that weighing them at the end of the video would be a great way to show the quality of the watch. As the density of the metal plays a big part in how the watch feels on your hand.
Love these videos, you should get ur own logo on the top half of the dial, you can often arrange this with the aliexpress sellers for a small extra cost, would really balance out the dial and make the watch look that much better
That is stunning and I have just chanced upon your channel not realising that you could create watches yourself, having been looking at a Rolex Datejust. Perhaps I won't bother now and create one for myself without having to spend silly money. Beautiful and congratulations!
Fantastic build! Just a heads-up though, you missed adding the dial washer between the movement and dial. You can see it @6:36 of the video. NH34s will have the dial washer to hold the hour wheel.
2 years ago i put together a watch. I purchased an NH35 mvt, a case, a leather bracelet, a box... picked my colors, my logo... I had no difficulties putting it together, except the second hand. I cant't get it to go in. I'm not sure if the axle is damaged. I swapped the mvmt with another used nh35, bought another second hand and still can't get the second hand on. Now i have a nice watch sitting in a box, with no second hand.
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on MAMACOO 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
Been watching your videos for a while now and was inspired to start a collection. Started with the MAMACOO, its specs for price and clean looks, now am looking for a dress watch to add.
What an amazing build, looking great. And i love the blue and green lume together. I guess i will build the same watch. Thanks. BTW: This is the 40 mm case, right?
I like the overall combination of parts. It does appear though that you forgot to install the concave washer that goes around the pinion before putting on the dial.
At the end of the measuring tool you are using usually theres a metal sticking out that metal represents the size of the opening you have set it to, when measuring stuff like the metal you cut you could have used it to have a more precise cut. (i've forgot the name of the tool) This one was my dad teaching me.
Fantastic build mate, I think I agree it’s your best one yet. I have to ask though, have you ever considered designing your own logos and applying logos to your custom watches? Sterile dials have always felt like they’re missing something to me, it stood out (to my eye) when you showed the finished product. Just a thought!
You're like a happy watch making Harry Potter. Love your videos! Keep it up!

@simonx760 I’m not making my own cases yet, but when I get there they’ll be milled on a CNC milling machine.
