The movie was so dark I sat looking at my own reflection for the whole thing.

It's bad enough when a movie kills one franchise but this movie went out of its way to kill two birds with one stone

What's ironic about this film is that the first AVP movie was set in an underground pyramid, which should be one of the darkest places imaginable, and even THAT movie had better lighting than this. Good grief, Brothers Strause.

The problem with AvP:R is that it is too dumb to be taken seriously and too dark (killing children and pregnant women) to be campy and fun (like the first AvP is). I have only seen this movie once and I still remember how I thought it was very cruel.

I get, and I am sure Kiryu too, get the point of using extreme imagary and situations sometimes. The problem is that AvP2 wasnt good enough to carry that. Not entertaining, just disturbing.

Interesting fact: in order to save money on production, the filmmakers cut their lighting budget to zero so the cast and crew had to use natural light and whatever lamps they could bring from home.
That is a very interesting fact. Poor crew :(
Even more interesting if you saw watched with Directors Commentaty about how often they complained about the budget.

First things first. Predator already demonstrated an ability to perform a quick and precise bioscan to determine the health and therefore worthiness of its prey. How in the HELL did ALL of the Predators on the mothership at the end of AVP not detect the presence of an Xeno embryo within Scar before they even brought his corpse aboard their ship? The entire premise of AVPR is dead wrong.
I assume they can only scan living things, so scar being dead when they got him meant that they just didn't know he was impregnated

I agree with you on most problems, but I think the Predator being much better at killing Xenos than in the first film was probably intentional. The reason being, I think that the trio for the first film were rookies who were on their first Xeno hunt, Wolf here was an old, grizzled vet who's likely killed a LOT of Xenos in his day. So him fairing a lot better makes a lot more sense to me, but I can see why that'd be a turn off.

The way you described the difference between horror in gore was so masterful that I just am at a loss of words. This is why I can no longer say I love horror movies as it's rare to find a good horror movie that's not gore porn. Especially considering nowadays any horror that isn't dripping with blood and entrails is considered suspense or thriller. Mostly suspense.
By the way, me and my dad saw this movie in theaters and were so disappointed we hopped from this at the end to go see I am Legend. Which is probably why we ended up loving I am Legend so much.

@Decker Shado I had two major problems with AVP-Requiem. My first problem was the Resident Evil ripoff (Destroying the city just like Racoon City after the coeval games of RE2 and RE3). My second major problem was the Predalien (a Queen variant) implanting already developed eggs in the pregnant woman. Alien Queens don't lay eggs like that and her Predator DNA (part of her DNA) would have instinctively prevented her harming a pregnant creature/human.
Despite how horrid it is, the Predalien's facehugging thing is probably the closest to a throwback of Giger design elements and even some ideas not used in Aliens. NECA released a Xenomorph figure that had a facehugger egg laying proboscis and it was apparently based on a design Cameron never used in the movie. UNFORTUNATELY THIS MOVIE IS SUCH A SHIT SHOW THAT ANY COOL IDEAS IT DID HAVE ARE NULL AND VOID.
God I can't wait for The Predator this year.

Stupid dumb movie. The first AVP was stupid but it was at least watchable as a guilty pleasure and you could actually see the damn monsters. The directors of this movie treated it as a generic horror flick.

AvPR was garbage. During the fights the only thing distinguishable was the blue light from the Predator's projectile weapon because everything was so dark.

Voidddie Paul W.S. Anderson was trying to make the first one an OK movie but I really hated the sequel because this looks like that the Strause Brothers smoked some cocaine before directing this movie
I really hate Requiem. I hated the characters, the story, the setting and that ANOTHER Predator dies. Why cant you keep at least one Yautja alive throughout the entire film.
Wolf had a great design and it was nice to see his home on the Predator homeworld but I could barely see what was happening. AvP:R gets a 0/10. Avoid this movie at all costs

JW_Gojifan I seen all Alien movies and Predator movies , I can say this is easily the worst out of all of those movies , I had a hard time watching this and just wanted it too end already. When I finished it I then went and watched the first Alien movie and the first Predator movie just to get the bad taste out of my mouth ... This movie was so bad , nothing good about it at all - what did the directors think about when they made this... I sometimes question why giving a movie like this to the people who liked the first AvP film? I mean the first AvP is bad but at least there were some scenes In that movie that you could actually enjoy but still it a bad movie and the directors were inspired by it? Yet again I think the money 💰 played the big part of this not the people , nobody wanted to see the sequel but they still made it , at least they could make it a little better than the AvP film or at least as good but they completely went the opposite direction and made it completely Trash! This movie gets 1/10
For me , I give it 1/10 just because I was happy to see Aliens and Predators again in a movie but that's it even through I could barely see what was going on.

I feel like the directors had something against kids in this movie. A facehugger attacks a kid and is later killed when the chesterburster kills the kid. You see a Xenomorph examining a room full of newborn babies (looking very hungry at them by the way). And finally you see the predalien lay eggs down a pregnant woman's throat. The bellybursters obviously eatting the unborn baby before bursting out of the woman's stomach. So yeah I HATED this movie. 🤢🤢🤢🤢😵😵😵😵😵😵

Dude. They were originally going to have the Predalien throwing a Predator spear, for some fucking reason have the ability to CLOAK, and it skinned Predators. They actually build skinned Predator bodies and staged the scene for that, but didn't ever film it, or if they did film it they never did an edit of the scene. They were off their rockers with this one, big time.
I'm pretty sure the Predaliens in the canon did take trophies. They explained it as some traits that the xeno got when it was growing in the predator.

The avp 2, is a failure to me too. One of the main reason is the very dark scenes that makes the actions not very clear to see. Just too dark. Also how they make the first predator in the movie look so stupid by blowing its ship by its own.
Also how they make the alien pred as a queen, makes no sense to me.
The only thing I care about anymore is watching The predator fight the teenage mutant Ninja turtles

Why in the 2 AVP movies the plasma casters are treated like some kind of sacred ultra weapon while in the first film the predator just threw it into the ground during the final fight.

@@Fenris77 If the Predator in the first movie wasn't a blooded warrior it wouldn't have even had a plasma caster as young warriors are forced to fight only using melee weapons until they complete their first proper hunt. Also the Predator in the first movie threw it off not because he didn't respect the weapon but as a sign of respect for a worthy prey.

I assume because in both films, if they were obtained by these people, police or scientists, they’d be utilized as intense weaponry and a problem for the predators. The only thing I liked was the predator, he was badass "Janitor?" Old, had all the cool stuff and could make stains vanish with some blue goo. Also? He looked like the original preds, leaner, taller? Like the first two, jungle and urban poachers.
I remember watching this and during the hospital scene I noticed someone missing and I'm like, "WTF? Where did he go?"
Scene was so dark I didn't realize he died till I watched that part like three times to figure out what the hell happened.

Actually, Decker, according to the DVD commentary with the Brothers Strause, Ricky's wound from getting stabbed in the tail is infected very badly and they claim that after the end of the movie, he dies shortly after...they just didn't put it in the movie...shame

There is no government on Yautja Prime. Everyone is separated into clans on multiple hunters,young bloods,the elite/veteran/clan leader,and possibly the females of the predator tribe. Even then,they are very advanced. The rest of the predator species is either full of bad bloods,disgraced outcasts,and the lava predators,basically the same things as regular predators,but they live on the other side of the planet,which is volcanic. There also exists the super predators,another sub-species of predator which is stronger,faster,and less honor driven than the regular Yautjas.

If you read Shane Salerno's original draft, the movie actually ended before the helicopter was hit by the bomb. Literally, the movie just stops. No denouement, nothing. Just, The End.

I actually liked this movie, probably because I was 14 or something when it came out. To me, the violence and gore was pretty extreme back then and I was probably just shocked into thinking it was 'hardcore'.
If I had to rate it now, I'd give it a 6/10.

The best part of the movie is Wolf. He is easily the most experienced and badass predator to date in the movies, the only bad part was the end was where he died.
I have to agree Decker, I find the movie hard to actually be entertaining. Not to mention the characters are annoying and pretty stupid. Eh, at least the first AVP is more entertaining than this sorry excuse for a movie and an insult to the Predator and the Alien franchise.

I've seen this movie numerous times and the pizza boy does not kill any xenomorphs. Ever. Not one. He shoots at the Predator, who then gets distracted by a alien which is the only reason he didn't kill the pizza boy.
vegakvd Regardless, it's more of a jab as to why the fuck is AvP set in suburban america with extremely cliche and paper thin characters when it should be set in the same universe as all of the AvP games (most of them excellent), colonial space? It feels like a high school drama with a slasher monster. AvP should aspire to be MUCH more than that. Certain characters are built for movies like that such as Myers, Freddie and Jason but NOT the xenos or predator. Even the first AvP was somewhat traditional, I would have preferred it far more if we saw colonial marines but it wasn't this travesty and at least attempted to expand on the lore. I don't know how this franchise could sink any lower than this, I honestly can't. The film does nothing to evoke fear or emotion from the viewer because any sensible individual would want to see almost every one of characters butchered in horrible ways. It's undoubtedly, a shameless cash-in sinking to the lowest common denominator to appease to dumb teenagers.

You know, if they kept the Predalien thing from the first film, but set this film several years into the future, I think it would have been a little better. Not great considering then that AvP would then be considered cannon, but it would have opened up several points that would allow for even more films to be made.
Like picture this: The Predator's find the Predalien as it comes out, but rather than kill it, they keep it alive, thinking it could be used to make even bigger and stronger game for future young bloods. Centuries pass and the Predalien is kept cryo-frozen by the Predators until a "Bad Blood" frees it in rebellion of his fellow Yaujta. (

I'll admit when I first saw this movie I didn't understand why the Predalien waited for the Predator to take off it's mask until you mention that the Xenomorphs take some of the traits from their Host that made me understood why your review is very accurate and true I do wish they didn't make the movie so dark it was hard to see much of the action I was glad I had an HD TV and change the back light allowing the action to be seen clearly

Also the part where the hunters son was impregnated by a facehugger, and the part where the women in the matarnity ward was impregnated by a predalien gives the movie a sense of realism. Because i'm sure in reality a facehugger or predalien wouldn't discriminate.
Maybe the predalien is taking trophys because it has alot of the predators DNA.
Still i didn't like this movie. I liked alien, aliens, alien 3, Alien Resurection, AVP (the first one). I totally disliked AVP Requiem, Prometheus, and Covenant. And i'm sick and tired of teenage sex in horror movies.

Aliens vs Predator and AVP2 the PC games from 1999 and 2001 were awesome back then. Not so hot looking now though.

Aliens Thanatos encounter is a great gameboy color game and Aliens Infestation is a great ds game.
Okay I know this is old and I'm sure answered already but the Reason the Predalien takes the skulls and even skins the Predators in the ship hanging them upside down like the predators(it was cute out but you can still see the body's in the background when the rouge comes in to clean up) is becuase Xenomorphs have been confirmed to inherite the memories of the hosts. Which is why xenon can use doors and vents and even weapons at some points. This is a trait made and done alot in the comics and being the avp movies are based off the comics and not the movies. It makes since that the Predalien collects trophies as a kinda remnant of the host it came from.
Wow, I've only known this guy for 4 hours, but I already love him, his knowledge, commentary and hair drives every video, especially these reviews, and I just cant wait to watch more. LIVE LONG AND PROSPER SIR! 8)
Why the hell did they decide to set this in the present instead of in the future like the comics and the games. Setting it in the present completely breaks the timeline of the Alien franchise.

LegendofHalo Or at least get them to hire a different director. But you have to agree on one thing, the Wolf Predator was a complete badass. Do they have the same kind of Elite in the comics? I've read some but I never remembered seeing the Wolf Elites except for in the 2010 game.

THEY SHOULDVE DONE IT LIKE THE GAMES. Just like Decker explained...marines conduct experiments on xenomorphs and then the break out and the predators come to that world attracted to the xenos. That would be way better.

the lighting in this movie was absolute garbage
11:30 -- no actually it would take matter the size of the moon for a black hole to sustain itself while burning off hawking's radiation. Matter forced into that tiny of a place would turn into a black hole, sure, but it'd fizzle out due to the fact that it can't pull in matter as fast as it puts out energy.
Wolf's -job- is as a Cleaner. And he's likely one that's on his way to becoming an Elder. He uses the blue liquid to this end. He makes the plasma pistol because both casters were damaged.
Also, Chet the Predalien is an the proceess of becoming a queen.
