Now to be fair, it actually shows the Predator getting facehuggered early on. And it's established that the aliens take characteristics from the hosts they're implanted into. In Alien 3, a facehugger gets a dog, so the alien that's born gains the attributes of a four-legged animal.
Yes but the movie doesn't establish the taking of DNA from a host, and since they definitely didn't make it clear if this was a independent universe or not we can only take this as a stand alone movie. And from a stand alone point they don't establish that fact, no alien penguins. Now for a die hard fan yes we know that but then we see the film basically then hitting us with things that are the most basic of basic, it's like a zombie movie spending 20 minutes explaining what a zombie is to a Resident Evil vet...but then not explaining how suddenly one of the zombies is cognitive and has psychic powers. But really it's one of those things where there are nitpicks from any angle you look at this movie but it's not a bad movie.
For the three questions near the 21:00 mark: the Predator got impregnated when he was marking his face, the Queen was most likely in a murder-rampage after being locked up for so long and just wanted to escape and destroy its captor, and the Xenomorphs taking on attributes/traits of the creature birthing it has been shown in almost every Alien movie to date (it's a central part of the Alien franchise lore).
Earlier films didn't show much og this, but there is the dog-alien in Alien 3 which is a bit different from the aliens we have seen before. It make sense for the aliens to absorb and display features from their hosts, to make them able to live in the atmosphere the host live in, not getting poisoned when eating them or anything like that.
People want to see a PredAlien, it's been done in the comics and games, thus a movie version was needed. Too bad it came in a movie that shat over its potential.
For me, it's because AVP Requiem is dark. I mean, too much dark, you just can't "make out the actors on screen" kinda of dark. What's the point of watching a movie you can't watch because it's all dark?
Predator: Human woman, I shall give this spear and this shield... and this box of chocolates. Lex: Uhm... No... I'm good with the spear and shield. Predator: Damn, And I thought I was going to score it.
"why would it mix with its DNA creating a new creature?" Alien 3 established that the Aliens take traits from their hosts. The Alien that gestated inside a dog was a more dog-like alien.
Trust me. As a film enthusiast, amateur film critic, and aspiring filmmaker, my intellectual side and my jock side are always at war with each other. Brilliant analogy as always.
In the movie's defense, the reason the "Drop the eggs off and come back in a year" idea wouldn't fly is that it was intended as a rite-of-passage, NOT Big Game Hunting. Sending novice hunters out against a planetful of the things isn't the same as sending them to hunt a half dozen or so.
I know, the movie explains a lot of the reasons behind it. It's obvious that those preds are not the greatest of fighters. And he totally missed the part where the last pred was ambushed. Obviously he was so bored with the explanation for the temple being there in the first place and didn't pay attention to the scene. Also the whole, no known record of xenomorphs (aliens), would obviously be do to with the company keeping it a top secret. They wanted the alien as a weapon so naturally they would keep the incident off the record. This could have been when the company truly first found out about it. As the first movie I saw with aliens in it, this movie got me into the Aliens series alone. Predator I watched when I was much longer. This movie holds a place in the Sci-fi area of my heart no matter what anyone thinks of it.
Yeah, it's been shown that they are an honorable alien race. Won't kill unarmed humans. Everyone that they killed up in the old whale hunting town had weapons or, in the case of the last guy, had attacked them. Honor is a big thing to them.
I just wish The Critic would have shouted Penguin! in the same way he shouts Cat! Though because he's a fan of Avatar the Last Airbender he'd probably play the clip when Aang says it.
To answer the three questions at 21:05 ... 1: There was a brief moment after lopping off the alien's face with the throwing star that the Predator got jumped by a facehugger (seriously, rewatch it). 2: Alien 3 established that when a host for another Xeno causes too much physical pain for an adult Xeno, the adult will attack (Ripley in Alien 3 had a damn queen in her and the Xeno left her alone... UNTIL she dropped it in molten steel, then it tried to rip her apart). 3: Again, back to Alien 3 (and further established in the various mythos expanded upon in the comics), Xeno will gain some DNA from whatever species it was impregnated into... the alien in that movie popped out of an animal and looked different from its "human" Xeno cousins. Which is why we can have a Predalien in this movie and the crappier sequel, those various Xeno-hybrids from the old toys, and even a friggen crocodile-Xenomorph when there was an old Batman vs Alien comic years ago! So there ya go, questions answered! :)
To "change" 3rd one: Predalien is a race in Aliens versus Predator 2 (the video game) that can be selectable in multiplayer. "Normal" Aliens are called Drone, Runner is Facehugger + Dog. Praetorian is between Queen & Drone in evolution, loses wall crawling ability & acts as Queen's "bodyguards" and then there is Predalien, which is Facehugger + Predator.
The Predators are shown to be able to see a baby xenomorph inside of someone. So why'd they take that one Predator onboard without realizing a xenomorph was inside of it??
+Evil Ash Nah, Xenomorph is just nonsensical gibberish, it's a butchered latin of "Alien life form", Xeno - Foreign, Morph - Form. Gorman said it in Aliens to sound cool at the briefing, and failed hard. But hilariously enough the butchery achieved memetic status and pretty much became the official designation of the monster, lol.
Good point about the main character. Imagine if she and the predator had to communicate without language throughout most of the movie and sticking together to survive. They do that for just 2-3 scenes.
Exactly...she was definitely interesting enough, and the way she communicated with the predator had potential to be a good plot device...more scenes with both of them on the same page would have made this film way better.
Heck, what if they just started with that. Have the film begin in media res, maybe show some flashbacks to give some basic info about her and why she was there, and show that she came here with people she's been separated from. Maybe she's lost in the temple complex and she's doing an audio log just in case she can't find anyone before she starves or something, so there's a record of what happens, say she's been separated from the rest of the team she came with and has been wandering around the temple for about two days or so. Then she finds the corpses of the rest of her team with holes in their chests. She'd be wondering what the hell was happening, but the audience would likely already know, and understand it means she has that many aliens to deal with. And if they were worried about fans not understanding, have one last surviving member barely alive who wakes up in time to tell her about face huggers (have some face hugger corpses near by) before they suddenly start panicking as they realize what's going on, and before they can properly explain it, their chest burster emerges and kills them. Then maybe rewind a bit to show the Predators coming, and we get a couple scenes of them in the temple undergoing the blooding. Before eventually our main human character and our main predator finally meet up and join forces once the Queen escapes containment. We cut most of the unneeded chaff, we can avoid a lot of overused cliches, more of the movie is dedicated to what drew people to it in the first place. Also by having most of the gorier aspects of what happened to the humans in the movie happen off screen we can get around the rating while not undercutting the body horror aspect of the aliens, just show the looks of pain and horror on the faces of the victims, as well as handwave away some plot holes, sometimes no explanation can work better then a bad one, no explanation if done well can leave the audience intrigued, a bad explanation takes away from the movie.
21:03 shortly after he marked himself with the blood of his kill. A facehugger latches onto him, scene cut and next scene we have is him pulling it off. 21:07 because it's still a potential threat. The only exception to this is a host carrying a queen. 21:09 because that's what xenoMORPH means. It takes on the form of it's host. This has happened in Alien3 when the facehugger impregnates the ox (or dog depending on which version) as well and morphs into a more animalistic xeno, walking on all fours.
Actually Xenomorph means alien form, and was never actually intended too details about it just that it was distinctly... *alien* in appearance. but the other 2 points were right, and i'd see why you'd think the last one.
I personally think the name is a happy accident. While Xenomorph, as you said means alien, strange, foreign or unknown form as a reference to it's own appeareance, it does make sense for Chris' point
actualy in requiem the hybrid xenomorph dose spawn a groupe of xenomorphs from the belly of a pregnant women so if it can reproduce doesn't that make it a queen ?
It takes traits from it's host. That and the acid blood is their entire thing. But to be fair in NC's case in the review is if you don't watch the Aliens movie, you're not gonna know much about the Aliens because very little is actually explained. Yeah the Predators are hunters, but that's practically all the movie tells you. Yeah the Aliens are incredibly deadly and adaptable...but that's it. The thing about a Crossover is not only do you need to try and give both sources their screen time, you do have to try and give some backstory on both of them so a fan of one can learn about the other and help entice him to check it out.
"why would it mix with his DNA and make a new creature?" That's mostly what the Xenomorphs do, they were way more primal looking and quadripedal before breeding with the first human, after that they developed human-like attributes like walking on two legs, being more tactical, and developing a form of clear communication for hunting. You can see more facts like this in the comics or that god awful, sorry excuse for a prequal Prometheus.
Also see the dog (or cow) alien in Alien 3. The aliens incorporating parts of their hosts was as far as I know always the explanation for why the alien in part 1 was relatively humanoid, making it older than even the concept of a queen, which was mostly hatched for movie 2 after a scene from 1 where dead people were turned into more facehugger eggs was left on the cutting room floor for pacing reasons. That's why they're officially called xenomorphs, they morph after foreign lifeforms. In this case the alien infects a predator creating a predalien. So someone drop these guys in Jurassic Park and give me some raptalians already.
Sim Jones I thought Prometheus was pretty good. Explaining why the aliens were feral and had no sense of order or society, how the alien ship you see in the original films was all messed up. I HATED the cgi though. That tentacle thing was sooo fake!
I think in a comic book somewhere or a fan art/fiction, you have Aliens Vs Preds on prehistoric earth( or some other world that is in its Prehistoric stage), and of course the aliens breeds with Dinos..., Alien T-Rex and Alienraptors are the scariest shit you can imagine... vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/fan-made-kaiju/images/4/47/Xeno_Rex.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20170604004003
Reading the un-edited script for Prometheus gives it an entirely new feel and really sheds light on huge plot holes and confusion. Honestly, it could've been worse and as a LONG time Alien/Predator fan I found it the least offensive attempt at clarifying long awaited details and was easily a 7.5 or even 8/10 for me. BUT they still shouldn't have fucked with the sequel so damn hard... *Fuck David!*
The Shining mini series review Malcom-"How about that chick from Alien vs. Predator" NC-"Was she black I don't really remember" Malcom-"Pretty sure she was" NC-"That chick was awesome" Malcom-"why do so many people hate that movie" NC-"I think it's seriously under appreciated as movie crossovers go, I mean it's no Avengers but it was still pretty damn decent"
tomatodamashi - Considering the lengthy run of the Nostalgia Critic Show, I do like to connect the dots from his past reviews. Like his agent smith all the way back to his Bebe Kids review.
19:48 That's authentic to the comic series. 20:43 "We're Yautja. Weapons are part of our religion." 21:08 Xenomorphs have always done that. The idea is that they're born from creatures assumed to be indigenous to wherever they happen to be, so the chestburster, while in development, hijacks that DNA to give it a localized evolutionary "jumpstart," so to speak. The name "xenomorph" literally means "foreign body."
the sad thing is I didnt even mind Requiem too much. The action and suspense was decent, but the camerawork was sloppy, the main characters (kinda?) were lackluster, and the ending was dumb. Even with that, it was better overall compared to the predecessor. In my humble opinion though.
"This is like finding Moses' DVD collection." What's wrong with that line? You're going to a place of ancient history and finding something amazingly high-tech. Exploring Moses' tomb and finding DVDs is a pretty good comparison to exploring a buried pyramid and finding some form of gun.
It is a dumb line *in story* . The comparisson is apt, but it's also a dumb line that would make anyone laugh, or at least snicker. And that's what happens in the movie. Of course, being purposely dumb doesn't make it not dumb, just legit and apropiate, if the movie wanted to make us laugh at it.
Doug I have to say your jock character just breaking at the end has to be one of the funniest (and most underrated) jokes in any of your reviews. It just always gets me in stitches. Hope you see this.
17:14 It would be TOO challenging. They like to hunt, but they're not morons. An entire planet full of xenomorphs, they'd be easily overwhelmed given what they're there for. 21:03 Right before Mexican guy started explaining the predator's ancient history on earth. 21:06 Since the chestburster was so far along, it stands to reason the predator host was not really necessary at that point, and killing him would ensure he would be taken onto the ship to wreak havoc. 21:09 Have you even seen Alien 3?! It is clearly shown that the xenomorphs ALWAYS mix with the DNA of its host. This is xenomorph 101 guys!
Also Predators have an honor code and aren't genocidal. They're not going to wipe out entire colonies full of civilians because they only go after strong prey who can defend themselves.
@Marcus Straya Using kids labels, especially as insults, makes whatever you say/write look petty and fucking stupid. It’s not cool to act dumb, never was.
The story line could have been simplified in one simple move, Danny Glover's character from Predator 2 could have been her Dad. Kill the stereotypical survival-horror explain mission/meet-the-soon-to-be-dead stuff and just cut to the good stuff.
"This is like finding Moses' DVD collection" isn't *that* weird, they just found something fairly modern looking (alien guns) in an ancient ass temple (Moses, I guess). Not weird but it is a dumb line.
Fun fact: Some helicopters, mainly military ones, do actually have a sort of a silent mode. They basically mode their rotor blades in a way that makes less noise. He could be hovering behind your wall and you woldn't have any idea.
Why would they have a silent "mode" as opposed to being silent all the time, or having specific helicopters that take advantage of their silent technology? Is there an advantage to "loud" mode?
@@doom5895 Probably, because "silent mode" sets the blades in a way, that would be detrimental to efficient flight, and thus "silent mode" can only be employed when the helicopter is hovering in place?
Alien vs Predator. Could've been amazing and turned into meh. What does everyone think of Alien vs Predator? Thanks to Mack Weldon for sponsoring this episode. Head over to www.mackweldon.com/ and use the promo code - CRITIC to get 20% off!
I never understood how a movie with Aliens could get PG-13. I mean really??? Deaths, facehuggers, chestbursting, acid melting stuff... HOW IS THAT PG-13!?!?
Paul WS Anderson wanted it to be PG-13.. According to him an Rated-R movie wouldn't be successful on the box office or "Among fans"..That's why Mortal Kombat and Even Horizon was PG-13. He only cared if they made money. He only made the Resident Evil movies R-rated because his wife were naked in those. ...He's a greedy hypocrite.
It's because it was cheaper to make a PG-13 film. It's a baffaling concept considering the previous six films were all gory and had plenty of f-bombs in them. Still, an R rating doesn't fix everything, Requiem proved that.
1.The Predator obviously got facehugged in the scene while he was marking himself, as explicitly implied. 2.The alien queen still attacked him because they are able to prioritise. 3.The Aliens always inherit traits of their hosts.
Yeah, they're really overlooking how the aliens have HUMAN TEETH, which is the most obvious visual clue we get to prove that the aliens get genetically mixed with their hosts.
But the mixing of genetic information was subtle before. Visually, there was no real distinction between those born of human hosts and the one from _Alien 3_ other than that it runs on all fours. So to have one that carries over such overt physical traits is just stupid. It reminds of the toyline they had with all the variants like a gorilla or bull or grasshopper. Wait, how the fuck does a facehugger impregnate an insect? See, it's that stupid!
You literally see a scene where the facehugger gets him, and the the xenomorph adapts the DNA of its host.. That's literally the whole gimmick of the alien.. In Alien 3 it comes out of a dog, and walks on all fours and murders for food..
So true, I literally only went to read the comments to see if someone said this already! Trey the Explainer actually has an interesting video on the possible anatomy of the aliens where he mentions the same exact thing, how xenomorphs are one of the few aliens that make sense in the world of science because they borrow the DNA of the host (and that's exactly why they resemble us so much), unlike other aliens whose human-like appearance would be highly unlikely. Wow I'm a nerd.
Brandon Lyon I think the real reason he did Care Bears Nutcracker at the end of 2014 was because it finally got released in theaters and Doug originally said he wouldn't do it because it wasn't in theaters. Just a thought that may or may not be true.
And he did Search for the Titanic a.k.a. Tentacolino fairly recently, which was another movie he said he would never review, so while maybe not right away, he might eventually do it if he feels like it.
8:33 that's an Italian actor though, who usually stars in Italian romantic comedies. For the Italian audience is like watching Hugh Grant in Alien Vs Predator, but surprisingly, he somehow pulled it off.
ShadowGolem86 To be a little forgiving, it didn't show the act itself, it just showed the Facehugger leaping while Predator's mask was off, and when it cut back to the Predator, he was putting his mask back on like nothing happened.
It may have only been in the unrated version. Not sure. But I do remember the part. It was after he killed the alien and took his mask off to do that whole marking ritual. Then we see a face-hugger fly through the air and it cuts away.
Seriously though, I know this film was only OK, but how did Requiem go so wrong? It just seemed to do everything possible wrong. Was more a teen slasher flick. No likable characters. The Pred-Alien's utterly stupid special ability. Also, disappointed that Doug missed out the hilarious scene where the main character and the predator run through smokey shadows, in a very Batman and Robin style shot.
Aw man I'm late to the party. This was my favorite movie for a majority of my life for many reasons! The AVP rivalry is a staple in history of how I meet my best friend. I was on the side of the predator and he was on the side of the alien. This rivalry helped create our friendship and to this day neither side has won. Another fun fact is that this rivalry helps remind us of our history as friends. Like what the nostalgic critic said in many of his videos, "everyone has their own opinion and some movies have an emotional tie to some people," this movie is the best example of that. O ya I totally agree requiem does suck, surprised it wasn't on a top 11 worst squeals episode.
The mixed DNA is actually established. The alien spices have a complex life cycle in order to adapt to the environment around them. That's why the drones are largely human. In Alien 3 this is confirmed with the dog alien.
The 3 questions at the end. 1) When did a Face Hugger Get Him? The review skimmed over the scene. He was attacked by a face hugger for a split second, presumed left to die, and that was pretty much it, til he returned. 2) Why would the Queen attack him if he was Impregnated? The extended universe goes over this a little better. A queen will not attack an impregnated host because she can see the chest burster developing inside. It has something to do with their Eyesight, which is unable to detect the mixbreed. 3) Why would the Chest Burster mix with his DNA creating a new Alien Species? Again, the extended universe helps out here. In the extended universe Xenomorphs have many different forms: Drones, Warriors, Praetorians, Spitters, Queens, etc. But a unique xenomorph is created when it is used on other species able to take presumably different roles as well. An example of this is in the Batman vs Alien crossover comic, a face hugger manages to impregnate killer croc, releasing the "Aligator Xenomorph." Human and Kryptonian DNA however are close enough that a Super Man-Xenomorph did not exist. The Chest Burster could not make it out of the Man of steel's Ribs.
Raven the Magnificent I'll actually take the two measly seconds to type "YES" as opposed to just a thumb's up. Seriously guys, how lazy have we become?
Yes. I want to see his reaction to arguably the sickest shit in the Alien films, the Predalien forcing embryos down pregnant women who give birth to several belly bursters shortly after. Considering what we see in Covenant, David would admire that so much. XD
Douche Bag Dougs breakdown at the lack of high fives are some of the best bits Also the alien is shown in alien 3 taking the features of which ever host birthed it
Alien 3 was pretty bad, but it still explains that the Xenomorphs (somewhat) take form of the host that they impregnate, which answers the question (That was in the review) as to why the chest buster took form of the Predator at the end.
Yeah but even though so it didn't look that much different. In the Alien 3 the host is a dog (or an ox in another version) yet it looks almost exactly the same as Xenomorphs that came from a human host in terms of deign.
Allow me to simulate what it's like to watch Requiem. Watch being used in the loosest term. www.solidbackgrounds.com/images/2560x1440/2560x1440-black-solid-color-background.jpg
Perhaps, the Xenomorph Queen attacked the Yaut-ja because it considered the idea of a Yautja Xenomorph disgusting or a possible threat to it and it's offspring , believeing the resulting hybrid would have Yautja intelect and lust for hunting opposed to the much more basic instincts of Xenomorphs.
Alright, couple nit-picks mostly because I know a good bit about about the Yautja (Predators) because of the various books and comments. 1. The 3 Predators were Unblooded, basically teens going through their initiation (Think like a bloody Bar Mitzah) their goal was to kill all the aliens in the temple and mark themselves with their clan's insignia using the alien blood. Which is why there was only 3 and the ship didn't help (They were there for pick-up and or clean-up if they failed). 2. They didn't just drop off the eggs because its been shown in books that left unchecked the Xenomorphs spread like a cancer, which makes them difficult to control, thus ruining the point of the ritual (and Yautja are nothing if not very strict with their rituals). And lastly, 3. The reason the Pred-alien was a thing is because Xenomorphs take on trait of whatever they were birthed from (like the one born from the dog in Alien 3).
Funny that. It's different for someone brand new to both franchises as well. NC's perspective is from someone who's seen the movies, but only the movies. This was my introduction to both Aliens and Predators, so when he talks about us knowing what the different creatures do, that wasn't the case for me. Still, it's nice to get the perspectives of all sides.
Sky, if you are interested in learning more about the Yautja, I'd suggest reading these three books as I found them very interesting. 1. Alien vs Predator: Prey by Steve Perry (it's a trilogy but honestly book 1 is enough) this one is really good because you get a real good view of Yautja culture following Daschande, imo my favorite Predator character to date. 2. Predator: South China Sea by Jeff Vandermeer one of the best Predator stories out there, a favorite amongst many, and 3. Predator: Concrete Jungle by Nathan Archer (bonus with this one it stars Dutch's, Arnold Schwarzenegger's character, brother so it ties very well with the first movie)
"When did the Facehugger get him?" Critic, did you see the scene where the Facehugger gets him then goes off screen during the markings scene? "Why did it mix with his DNA creating a new creature?" This is a question you should've asked when watching Alien 3.
TeslaChad i literally lost it when jock Jim tried tried to get a high five from jock Doug and Doug just gives him this look of "are you fucking serious?!?!?!"
The Predator was impregnated when he took his helmet off and marked his forehead. It was displayed as "did it happen?" that you don't find out until the end of the movie.
"Don't make me throw her at you!" "Yeah! I hurt!" That alone deserves a thumbs up. Edit: I think the main problem with AvP was that it was in the works then dropped then in the works, back and forth for so long, had all the fans of BOTH series gnawing for it to happen, that when it finally did it just, well we were happy it finally happened. But severely disappointed with what we got. At least that's my take on it. Still, beats Requiem.....
+Avery H Actually it was decently lit... in cinemas... The transfer for the home video release was butchered hard, tho. The movie disappointing heavily both from critical as well as financial standpoint, so i guess they never bothered to make an improved transfer for a re-release(that next to no one would care about), or perhaps because of the movie's failure they no longer even have the original master copy of the movie.
no seen it in the cinema because i loved the first AVP and i have to say i didn't see anything, camera zoomed in way too close on giant screen, cuts are way too fast for your eyes to focus or your brain to process what you are even seeing, camera shake and generally dark picture do the rest. All the action in that movie was shit thx to the camera work.
Don't forget they have one Predator going around apparently erasing all evidence of aliens . . .it gets to the point that the whole town is infested and has to be nuked . . . and that mother fucker is STILL going around pouring acid on the bodies of dead aliens like it actually matters at that point. If he lived he'd probably be fired. God what a stupid movie.
20:55 1: Ok the predator got attack by a facehugger when the itallien guy went on and on about the aliens history. 2: The queen alien, well you would go on a murderous rage from being chained a thousand years just for bearing children to be slaughtered. 3: Xeno's take on the genetic traits of their host that in theory would be better adapted to the environment. So other than the elongated plot lining it's pretty awesome.
Meister Prakti Are you talking about Alien Verses Predator Requiem or AvP Requiem... The movie that sucked so bad that it makes this movie look like Citizen Cane. It was so dark that a scene where a character ignites a lighter and the fire generates no light.
Wolf is cool when he kills things, but he's gotta be a more unstable version of predator that enjoys his job a little too much cause he doesn't just kill aliens or armed humans, but literally everyone. He's like the Judge Death of predators.
I like your interpretation! But I thought he was more like the Janitor - the guy you called when things messed up royally. Predators dead, their tech still intact, Xenomorph-Predator hybrid? Wolf gets called to 'clean' it up.
Just to explain, the temple was a 'rite of passage' for young predators. It's confirmed that the trio who we see aren't fully grown (hence why they're taken out kinda easily) but the temple was built so young bloods could slay a serpent to prove their strength and be allowed to hunt honourably.
3:49 The extended cut answers this question. It has an alternate opening scene, with the predators coming to the whaling outpost in 1904. That's why it's set in 2004.
I remember I would watch that when I was little. I watched it again recently and, well, I thought it was quite flawed to say the least (cough cough- Jeff Bridges' singing).
@Michael French That's racist for thinking all European people are American. Maybe he's European-Canadian or European-New Zealander or European-European.
the book/comic the is (extremely) loosely based on answers all of your questions. in that version called Prey, it was set in the Aliens timeline, and involved a backwater farming colony becoming a hunting ground, a W/Y employee called Machiko Noguchi is pretty much the same character as Alexa in this movie. Except its more badass, she saves the predator leader and they go hunt the queen together like in the film, but unlike the film she decides to join the fucking Predator pack!
And then leads a lonely, terrible existence. I actually really like that the comic had the balls to make a sequel that said "Hey, living alone with aliens and thus leaving behind not only your family but also any chances of ever seeing a human again can actually be very depressing." A little heavy handed, sure, but A+ for realism.
yeah not gonna lie, that book was a difficult read. You really felt sorry for her! At least she got revenge on Shorty for all the bullying he did to her!
There actually is a movie where the Predators make a planet into their own personal hunting grounds, called Predators. The story follows a group of people brought to said hunting grounds to challenge the Predators.
Ryan Redinger the monster madness(his early movie reviews) series used to be a side series that only went for a short time. He keeps the same style even in his new videos.
I would guess it probably has to do with time and production constraints. Doug has a full studio and works with his brother and probably one or two other people in post-production, while James works solo.
I honestly enjoyed the final part because it shows that the Predators aren't just blood thirsty aliens, they actually are honorable to the people that earn their respect
The comics were so much better though. Better plot, better characters, better tension. My biggest gripe is that this movie should have been amazing. Instead, thanks to a lacklustre scrip and a pedestrian director, the franchise was stillborn.
The novelization that became the comics was a rewrite of the original script way back when they were originally shopping the idea for a crossover movie. AVP was in production hell for like 20 years before Freddy VS Jason did well.
I dont wanna be that guy...knowing by saying that I am making myself that guy but isnt it somewhat common knowledge that Xenomorphs copy the genetic traits of their hosts? Thats why the one in Alien 3 acted more like a dog....I'm probably just nitpicking needless to say it was a great episode.
You don't have to be that guy to point out how dumb those last 3 questions were. There's a scene where a facehugger jumps him. A queen is more important to the hive than one embryo. Alien 3 flat out shows us the Xenos take on the hosts characteristics. Still a fun episode.
TheJbuckhanan if you watch review channels sometimes, you start to notice they leave out scenes or information so they can ask questions for no reason.
I think the point of those questions is to point out that, while people know about Predators and/or Aliens, they don't necessarily know about their joined stories or the specifics of how they work. Hardcore fans of Alien do know about the Xeno's characteristics depending on the host and Predator's fans do know about their code of honor, but first timers don't and there is no explanation about any of it in this movie (for obvious reasons). The markings and weapon gifting of the predator's leader and the sudden birth of the Predalien (Does anyone else like Xenopredator as an alternative too?) may be information that confuses the audience if it's their first time in contact with these franchises.
The part where it makes a new creature is actually just part of Xenomorph lore. They always take on certain aspects of the host, which is why the one from Alien 3 spent more time on all 4's, it was hosted in a dog. So that part actually has a full explanation. Also it's never really been said if the queen will leave you alone or not if you've been facehuggered, but seeing how in Alien Resurrection the main Xenos were still hunting someone we knew had been attacked by a facehugger, it's likely to say they don't actually care if you're a host or not.
17:15 In the comics, that's pretty much what the Yautja do. They deploy a few Xenomorph eggs and then send down a hunting party as part of a ceremony called a Kainde Amedha Chiva (Hard Meat Hunt [Kainde Amedha being the Yautja word for Xenomorph]) composed of a few Blooded (or veteran) Yautja and coming-of-age Yautja who need to prove their worth.
Hey, Critic, review PREDATORS next. Also, FYI, the Predalien chestburster took on Scar's physical attributes because that's how xenomorphs do. In the Alien cannon, facehuggers not only implant the chestburster, but sample the host's DNA and incorporates it into the chestburster's makeup, making them take on said attributes. They were purportedly designed from the DNA up to literally adapt to any environment, including taking on a host's form in a manner of speaking.

What trait do they get from us?

For the three questions near the 21:00 mark: the Predator got impregnated when he was marking his face, the Queen was most likely in a murder-rampage after being locked up for so long and just wanted to escape and destroy its captor, and the Xenomorphs taking on attributes/traits of the creature birthing it has been shown in almost every Alien movie to date (it's a central part of the Alien franchise lore).
The Smoking Skull you mean like the ALIEN T-REX
Earlier films didn't show much og this, but there is the dog-alien in Alien 3 which is a bit different from the aliens we have seen before.
It make sense for the aliens to absorb and display features from their hosts, to make them able to live in the atmosphere the host live in, not getting poisoned when eating them or anything like that.
still stupid as hell and lazy writing
bruh i have the alien t-rex as my background
People want to see a PredAlien, it's been done in the comics and games, thus a movie version was needed. Too bad it came in a movie that shat over its potential.

For me, it's because AVP Requiem is dark. I mean, too much dark, you just can't "make out the actors on screen" kinda of dark. What's the point of watching a movie you can't watch because it's all dark?
Marco Coelho, money, that's what

"why would it mix with its DNA creating a new creature?"
Alien 3 established that the Aliens take traits from their hosts. The Alien that gestated inside a dog was a more dog-like alien.
In the Assembly Cut it was an ox, not a dog. Haven't seen the threatrical cut in years.
@@JoakimOtamaa the dog made way more sense. There was literally nothing remotely ox-like about the Runner variety of xenomorph.

In the movie's defense, the reason the "Drop the eggs off and come back in a year" idea wouldn't fly is that it was intended as a rite-of-passage, NOT Big Game Hunting. Sending novice hunters out against a planetful of the things isn't the same as sending them to hunt a half dozen or so.
yeah, his to dumb to understand it
Aamar Rahman says the one with horrid grammer
Also, aren't Predators respectful of the environment or something? They have no qualm taking individual lives but they wouldn't destroy whole species.
Yeah, it's been shown that they are an honorable alien race. Won't kill unarmed humans. Everyone that they killed up in the old whale hunting town had weapons or, in the case of the last guy, had attacked them. Honor is a big thing to them.
I died when the penguin made the chun noises god I wish that was real

To "change" 3rd one:
Predalien is a race in Aliens versus Predator 2 (the video game) that can be selectable in multiplayer. "Normal" Aliens are called Drone, Runner is Facehugger + Dog. Praetorian is between Queen & Drone in evolution, loses wall crawling ability & acts as Queen's "bodyguards" and then there is Predalien, which is Facehugger + Predator.
That's why they call the aliens 'Xenomorph', because they morph by using dna of their host.
The Predators are shown to be able to see a baby xenomorph inside of someone. So why'd they take that one Predator onboard without realizing a xenomorph was inside of it??
+AGrayPhantom We've never seen a chestburster come out of a dead person, so maybe they don't survive if the host dies?
+Evil Ash
Nah, Xenomorph is just nonsensical gibberish, it's a butchered latin of "Alien life form", Xeno - Foreign, Morph - Form.
@degree7 yes it does and you are a tool.
"why would it mix with his DNA and make a new creature?"
That's mostly what the Xenomorphs do, they were way more primal looking and quadripedal before breeding with the first human, after that they developed human-like attributes like walking on two legs, being more tactical, and developing a form of clear communication for hunting. You can see more facts like this in the comics or that god awful, sorry excuse for a prequal Prometheus.
From what little I've seen of Prometheus Covenant is FAR worse(my opinion).

19:48 That's authentic to the comic series.
20:43 "We're Yautja. Weapons are part of our religion."
21:08 Xenomorphs have always done that. The idea is that they're born from creatures assumed to be indigenous to wherever they happen to be, so the chestburster, while in development, hijacks that DNA to give it a localized evolutionary "jumpstart," so to speak. The name "xenomorph" literally means "foreign body."

21:03 Right before Mexican guy started explaining the predator's ancient history on earth.
21:06 Since the chestburster was so far along, it stands to reason the predator host was not really necessary at that point, and killing him would ensure he would be taken onto the ship to wreak havoc.

I never understood how a movie with Aliens could get PG-13.
I mean really??? Deaths, facehuggers, chestbursting, acid melting stuff...
HOW IS THAT PG-13!?!?
Well, Captain America DID shred a nazi into a cloud of blood on a propeller at the end of his first movie, yet that was PG13.
What? That makes no sense! Fans of the Alien movies WANT R-rated movies!
Such weird choices...
Unbelievable :/
It's because it was cheaper to make a PG-13 film. It's a baffaling concept considering the previous six films were all gory and had plenty of f-bombs in them. Still, an R rating doesn't fix everything, Requiem proved that.
17:35 "Oh BTW Diey McDie Dead dies" 😂 🤣
See, it's that stupid!
ya
You literally see a scene where the facehugger gets him, and the the xenomorph adapts the DNA of its host.. That's literally the whole gimmick of the alien.. In Alien 3 it comes out of a dog, and walks on all fours and murders for food..
This.
This is the theatrical version not the unrated one isn't it ...
she doesn't, or at least if you look at the aliens in Prometheus, they are constantly developing, taking genes from the hosts.

To be a little forgiving, it didn't show the act itself, it just showed the Facehugger leaping while Predator's mask was off, and when it cut back to the Predator, he was putting his mask back on like nothing happened.
It may have only been in the unrated version. Not sure. But I do remember the part. It was after he killed the alien and took his mask off to do that whole marking ritual. Then we see a face-hugger fly through the air and it cuts away.

Can we just agree that 'Extended Universe with no Explanation' means that THE FILM gave no explanation?
Great.
Batman vs Alien...? The extended universe sounds kinda dumb.
You quit your sazz, Bazz. 'Batman/Aliens' kicks azz.
the storyline itself was cool, but the part where Batman's Rogues Gallery get experimented on and turned into xenomorph hybrids was fuckin stupid.
I have mixed feelings about the villainmorphs. At least the Joker xenomorph looks haunting, don't you think?
Gremlins in an Alien vs Predator movie?
That would actually make this movie a lot more likable!
Who wants Nostalgia Critic review AVP: Requiem?
Vote Now -> Yes or No
yes
Raven the Magnificent I'll actually take the two measly seconds to type "YES" as opposed to just a thumb's up. Seriously guys, how lazy have we become?
Not sure we need a full review to cover "It's dark. In the bad way."
No.
I want Steven Universe.
Yes. I want to see his reaction to arguably the sickest shit in the Alien films, the Predalien forcing embryos down pregnant women who give birth to several belly bursters shortly after. Considering what we see in Covenant, David would admire that so much. XD
Douche Bag Dougs breakdown at the lack of high fives are some of the best bits
Also the alien is shown in alien 3 taking the features of which ever host birthed it
J-bard yeah but..... alien 3 was ass
Scratch the ox/bull thing, turns out they fixed it in the comics I think and gave it a bull-like design.
J-bard so you actually watched alien 3
Jock Doug is the best! Don't leave the poor man hanging!
lol watch the whole review hoping someone would high five him.
"just in time?.."
they were there all the time. they were not gonna interfere at all. they were watching it all (most likely with beer and snacks)
AVP: Requiem!!!
AVP: Requiem!!!
AVP: Requiem!!!
AVP: Requiem!!!
AVP: Requiem!!!
was awfully bad and made no justice to the first.
He did at the end. It sucks.
Even the Queen knew that Requiem was gonna suck.
She tried to save us all from the sequel...
I think it's even more simple than that. The queen values more her own life (as she can lay eggs) than that of a single minion. Which she can replace.
perhaps the queen didn't know it existed?
Joshua Brumbles It still stopped the face thingy from attaching to the face though
Thanks. I'll have to check those out.
No problem, definitely start with the Alien vs Predator one though.
I also recommend the Rage war Trilogy by Tim Lebbon.
"When did the Facehugger get him?"
Critic, did you see the scene where the Facehugger gets him then goes off screen during the markings scene?
"Why did it mix with his DNA creating a new creature?"
This is a question you should've asked when watching Alien 3.
This was a great review but the best parts were totally when the Jock Doug wasn't getting a high-five from anyone.
IKR it's the little things~
TeslaChad i literally lost it when jock Jim tried tried to get a high five from jock Doug and Doug just gives him this look of "are you fucking serious?!?!?!"
TeslaChad yeah definitely my favourite part of the review
TeslaChad also tamras "thas bullshhiiiit" line delivery was great
just like my life
The penguin bit kills me every time I see and hear it.
Requiem? You mean the one with no lighting?
Avery H their logic: "they can't critique us if they can't see what's going on"
+Avery H
Actually it was decently lit... in cinemas...
Like Doom 3.
no seen it in the cinema because i loved the first AVP and i have to say i didn't see anything, camera zoomed in way too close on giant screen, cuts are way too fast for your eyes to focus or your brain to process what you are even seeing, camera shake and generally dark picture do the rest.
Poor Nostalgia Jock
Will he ever get a high five?
🖐
🙋🙋🙋✋✋✋
SHRIMP ON THE BARBIE I think they're gonna come back, the jocks were too fun to be a one time thing in my opinion
Next thing you know, we're gonna have Ripley vs. Sarah Connor...
Why would Ridley Scott fight Sarah Connor? ;)
...vs. Furiosa
no not furiosa
20:55
1: Ok the predator got attack by a facehugger when the itallien guy went on and on about the aliens history.
2: The queen alien, well you would go on a murderous rage from being chained a thousand years just for bearing children to be slaughtered.
3: Xeno's take on the genetic traits of their host that in theory would be better adapted to the environment.
So other than the elongated plot lining it's pretty awesome.
"Requiem" sucks... but 'Wolf' (that movie's Predator) is awesome as all hell.
And Wolf didn't growl and roar like a tiger.
Ricardo Parente whats the full name of the movie?
Meister Prakti
Are you talking about Alien Verses Predator Requiem or AvP Requiem...
It's confirmed that the trio who we see aren't fully grown (hence why they're taken out kinda easily) but the temple was built so young bloods could slay a serpent to prove their strength and be allowed to hunt honourably.
also, that's why the other predators didn't help. if the queen wasn't killed, they would've done something then.
"When did a facehugger impregnate him?"
They showed that happen in the movie.
3:49 The extended cut answers this question. It has an alternate opening scene, with the predators coming to the whaling outpost in 1904. That's why it's set in 2004.
I'd like to see you review the Last Unicorn movie. I remember watching it once as a kid and thinking some of the scenes were really freaky.
Leonardo Katana my best friend quoted this movie for her yearbook
Ive heard of it but I never understood what it was about
I remember I would watch that when I was little. I watched it again recently and, well, I thought it was quite flawed to say the least (cough cough- Jeff Bridges' singing).
Why is Malcolm white in this episode?
Okay, I laughed.
@Michael French
That's racist for thinking all European people are American.
I feel your pain, my friend.
and good thing none of the AvP shit is canon.
Sitharos The original novels were freaking awesome!! Michiko is perfect!!
"Hi. I'm Time."
Now I want a buddy-cop prequel starring Time and (insert 80's action movie star here).
9:00 - Oh, look, a leftover extra from Batman Returns.
i hope you can do that crappy sequel. it's so dark it makes fan4stic look like a flashlight.
jake hilado when watching that i was thinking why the sun was never coming up lol
The only reason Fant4stic was so dark was because I had my eyes closed from complete boredom.
I still barely remember any of it, it was the hardest movie to watch.
Next review should be about the GI-JOE movies or at least the second one with the rock
I'm a Savage about everything
he should do a rock month
Garrick Groover the first Transformers wasn't that bad, but the rest was terriable
+Garrick Groover
The 1st one was okay the second one was so bad i was rooting for the bad guys they were the ones with the intelligent plan.
I'm a Savage about everything I love your name and pic, thanks for existing
That cutoff wail at the end with jock critic had me laughing so hard!
There actually is a movie where the Predators make a planet into their own personal hunting grounds, called Predators. The story follows a group of people brought to said hunting grounds to challenge the Predators.
Yeah and that movie is shit.
TheSmashingTesticles no its not
Its a bad movie tho
And that Movie is great!
As a predator fan, that movie is...ok...still way better than the avp films. Prove me wrong lol you can't. Coz avp sucks donkey dick. HARD.
RIP Malcolm Ray, the world's greatest Deadshot/Catwoman
2013 - 2017
"It wasn't impossible to build Rapture at the bottom of the sea. It was impossible to build it anywhere else." Andrew Ryan.
Nah, he's fine, just not in the video. I was only havin' a laugh.
Andrew Ryan a man chooses, a slave obeys.
Derek Hearne Would you kindly stop referencing things?
How come NC can use actual movie footage when reviewing a movie but when AVGN reviews a movie he has to use still images.
probably due to time constraints. James Rolfe generally has several projects on the go, it's much quicker to edit in a screen grab than actual footage
On cinemasacre.com they use the actual clips, maybe it’s to get around UA-cams copyright policies.
Ryan Redinger the monster madness(his early movie reviews) series used to be a side series that only went for a short time. He keeps the same style even in his new videos.
I always thought is was a style choice so James' reviews don't look like every other review on YT
I would guess it probably has to do with time and production constraints. Doug has a full studio and works with his brother and probably one or two other people in post-production, while James works solo.
When he said “Hi, I’m Time” that got me 😂
"Mine's bigger"
"Shut up Frank"
........you know what, this review honestly made me want to watch this. That last half sounds AWESOME.
it is
It's actually fun, problem is as soon as the Aliens and Predators start fighting, it feels like we only got twenty minutes left until the movies over.
You should watch it. It's actually pretty good
Agreed
EthanUnken It lacks a story but it's fun as hell to watch the Predator tech.
Our current reality is riddled with plot holes
Sam J. Johnson go on
never clicked on something so fast
h.r. animates same
h.r. animates Couldn't agree more.
oh cool the new NC is ou- HOLY SHIT HE DID ALIEN VS PREDATOR! DIDN'T KNOW I NEEDED THIS UNTIL NOW!!!
requiem ruined my favorite predator (wolf) and the pred alien like come on
requiem ruined my favorite predator (wolf) and the pred alien like come on
I honestly enjoyed the final part because it shows that the Predators aren't just blood thirsty aliens, they actually are honorable to the people that earn their respect
If a illegal immigrant and a child molester fought would it be called Alien Vs. Predator?
Illegal Alien vs Sexual Predator
sounds like a porn movie
+ZeroB4NG More like a prison porn video
Not sure if I want to shake your hand or smack you upside the head.
Sounds like thatd be a better movie
The comics were so much better though. Better plot, better characters, better tension. My biggest gripe is that this movie should have been amazing. Instead, thanks to a lacklustre scrip and a pedestrian director, the franchise was stillborn.
And funny enough, the original script was closer to the comics. It even had its own version of Machiko.
Yeah, especially since Machiko was an honorary Yautja.
The novelization that became the comics was a rewrite of the original script way back when they were originally shopping the idea for a crossover movie. AVP was in production hell for like 20 years before Freddy VS Jason did well.
We need to see a fight between the two best characters:
Bill vs. Devil Boner
Mm, hmm.
"Mm! hmmm, mmmm m hm hmm!"
Bill.
First, we must ask the chart
VGM_ Bill is omnipotent. A single Mmhm destroys the omniverse.
Hell yeah. I would gladly sit through a bunch of mhm mmmhmmm and WHATEVER I'M SAYING THE SCRIPT IS IN ALL CAPS
"My God they're evil, they find a way to combine the virtual boy and the power glove into one" No comments, just laughs
The amount of times I've done the same thing as Doug does at 16:30, is so uncountable that it really is sad.
So, perhaps, the questions were intentionally placed?
Hawner but they could easily and quickly explain most of that in the video.
GRex7777 I think they figure, there can always be more eggs as long as the queen is alive, so dispatching hosts that are a threat is no big deal.
Exactly. And never forget, we watched them kill one of their own to get free in Resurrection. They aren't exactly "loving" creatures. lol
GRex7777 ya that's how the got away using a xenomorph in mortal kombat by haveing him come from beroka
and that's why in Mortal Kombat X the Alien has Tarkatan traits like longer teeth and retractable arm blades, because Baraka was the host.
Comics? Who wrote them? Are they canon?
@@TheALPHA1550 alien and predator actually exist in the same universe, because ridley doesnt like avp he doesnt consider avp canon
