i’m an editor on fiverr and i’ve met these people that looked like the first guy you messaged: trying to get the money and not putting effort in. my number one goal when i started was to be the opposite of that- i spend hours on my work and want to build connections with my clients… this was a really interesting video to watch from my point of view ed, thank you! it’s inspired me to go even further!
Glad you liked it Audrey, its not easy being an editor for clients, managing expectations is always tough, I just thought this was proof that there is plenty of talent out there :)

One tip I have for folks looking to hire an editor for a specific platform like UA-cam or TikTok is to have one of your screening questions be something like “List 3 UA-cam creators your watch regularly and tell me what you like about their content.” This lets you quickly separate those who actually are consumers of content on the platform and understand the style, vs those who just have random editing experience cutting TV commercials for their local car dealership. The hardest thing I’ve found about hiring an editor is finding someone who understands the sensibility of the platform. Editing for UA-cam or TikTok is it’s own specific genre almost.
this is an AMAZING piece of advice!!
Thank you for that bit of advice. That makes a lot of sense
Thanks for the advise.
Thank you! This is a very good advice. I will definitely be asking this when I hire an editor for my projects.
Bullshit. Knowing Tiktok is overmistified, not a big deal. As an editor I tell you, there is nothing in it that would be hard to mimic. And no, I never check who is the creator of a video, do you think anyone ever does? Actually any kid can put a Tiktok video together, and actually almost all of those "creators" are 15y old kids.
The storytelling in these videos is 10/10 faaaaaabulous! I'm hooked and you've taught me a lot. 😀💕
Thank you!
i agree with you. he should make one video about storytelling as well.
exactly 100 likes but 2 replies
When I was hiring editors weekly like you I'd get 100s of replies from people who didn't even read my requirements, I would towards the end of my post point out only applicants who use the subject line "purple monkey dishwasher" would be considered - the first requirement is to hire someone who takes the time to read exactly what I want, this reduced my workflow by 80%
Brilliant!
Wow that's brilliant advice.
I’m taking note right now! Thanks for saving my time!
Oh so you are purple monkey dishwasher. I see. I always think what kind of weird client comes up with these things. Some even come up with Banana pizza.
"reconstructed for your pleasure" 😂 well thank you! that chat was hilarious. I really liked the 3rd edit most although the glitches were a bit disruptive/much imo! And there was no b-roll when you said "which you can see right here". That being said though - 3 has A LOT of potential! and great value for money if you ask me :)
Wow! The results were so shocking!
This is what I initially thought the prices were going to be:
- 1st video | $65
- 2nd video | $25
- 3rd video | $145
I really enjoyed this video! It was super entertaining to watch and I hope you do more of these in the future :)
"The price you are going to pay is not always the value you are going to get."
I think.
@@creativeunoriginals5173 I agree
As an editor, I feel embarrassed for the 145$ one, because he should've known that the best optimized way to put substitles in shorts is either in the middle or in the upper side.
Though the 25$ one really did a good job except for the subtitles
That's Ed! He accidentally wastes thousands of dollars on an editing company and makes a video to make up for it! 🔥
Loved this! It was great seeing the different approaches all the editors took to the same content, and seeing you pick out the problem areas was really helpful! Definitely going to be trying to implement some of those editing tips in my future videos ☺️
I absolutely loved this video. The competition aspect of the video made it entertaining but I also learned a ton from the editing aspect. Absolutely amazing video
Your fast approaching 200k … love every single video .. you not only teach from what u say but also through the amazing video production quality … ❤️💯🔥
Hiring people on UpWork (or any platform) is an art in itself.
I usually add a random qualifier in the middle of the job description (EX: Start your application with your favorite color in all caps to show you've read this.) If they don't - it's an automatic ignore.
Sometimes I add a 2nd filter and request a short 60 second Loom recording of them talking about their experience, the creators they follow, etc.
Usually the 1st step is enough, but when hiring for full-time positions the second step saves a ton of headache.
that's interesting! from the point of view of a freelancer it seems like a bit of gimmick. i stumble upon those kinds of filters and honestly chuckle to myself, but i definitely understand where it's coming from. i do try to emphasize in my replies that I've seen them
Great video! I am amazed how you can make an engaging story literally from anything! You opened my eyes on storytelling and I am just starting to master this difficult skill. Scripted my next video for the first time, very excited to film! Thank you for all you do Eddie! Best of luck!
The editing critique is incredibly fun to watch. It is only the second time that I look into editing my videos seriously. This video already offered lots of directions on questions and doubts I had!
Totally loving your content Ed, it's really interesting, engageing and informative, plus, it's nothing like any other how to grow Channels I watch. Well done and keep it up
Seeing your emotions and reaction to the last edit…stood out the most to me!
Creating that emotional feeling for the viewer makes prefect sense to me now!
Genius. You found a super good way, to explain something without explaining it. This was so good. I learned about the AI and UA-cam Shorts. 2 things in one video. Awesome work
Your work is always different... And makes you apart from everyone else!! Good job ed..
I love these sort of videos. It really shows you how important it is to read the brief
Fantastic video! editors are very difficult to find so it’s interesting to see examples on what to look for/what to NOT look for 😂
difficult to find ? literally im an editor
@@BabuRao-vb5bo Man i think he mean that excellent editors are difficult to find. Peace out bro
Yo riley
Ed your videos are so damn compelling. I’m struggling to think of one I haven’t watched every second of. Doing my best to learn from what you’re doing here. 👍🏻
Man I have been watching videoa of a lots of creators, but your attention to details and retentions is meticulous. Everything is top-notch.
You are hands down my new favorite channel. I have been ina rabbit hole for hours. Thank you!
actively starting out as an editor and I'm loving all these insights! the last one definitely turned out to be the most attention grabbing and visually interesting, but the sfx on those transitions felt too loud for me
I am a top rated plus video editor on Upwork and I find this video really helpful as it shows me some areas of improvements. No end to learning. Love this!
this channel is a banger bro.. good work!
The concept is super fun and I would have enjoyed just a basic explanation of the information, but your editing and storytelling is above and beyond and makes me love it
Another very well done video with good pacing. Just shared it with a few of my "shorts" creator friends.
Hey Ed! What got my attention was the analyze that you did to the shorts. As a young video editor I see that I need to improve my skills on self-analyze but have no idea where to start. Soo, I would love to see videos about how to analyze the video, or probably a course from you about video editing. Thank You!
This channel is just amazing! Can't wait to see more.
These uploads make my day!
so good! interesting how the small changes make such a difference. Really useful info and experiment, thanks
So awesome to see your channel doing well, was subbed when you was at 3k! Also the 65$ editor easily outmatched the other two
Great way of showcasing the topic. Loved it.
Such a fun idea. Thank you for posting this. It's always great to get a good laugh from you while still learning valuable information. You Rock!🎸
Brilliant, as always! This gives me hope for the future!
thanks, man as a new editor myself I found your feedbacks really helpful
The problem with this plattform is framed in a little example: Would you look for a dentist on such a plattform? No, because you know YOU have to make the effort to find a good dentist. People offering services on those sites and messaging YOU kinda shows that nobody else wants to work with them.
Film Booth always bringing value. 🔥🔥
It’s very interesting how easy it is to miss out on these tiny details when creating content, but it’s so easy to see when watching it!
The $65 editor is definitely very experienced and looks like their knowledge of pricing reflects that
I actually enjoyed this video...you are so underrated
I loved following along with this story!!
Damn I respect the story telling!!! Grace! your editing was top notch (even better than those three duds!) Your videos are not like those common tutorials which just get into point and waste some of our precious time making us difficult to understand what are they trying to show or say.... BUT YOU SCORED FULL MARKS ON THAT!!!!! cheers mate :)
Great experiment and super fun to watch! Thank you :)
Thanks for great video as always, it actually gave me a pretty good confidence boost to see such high quality videos get 0-2 views on your - new - channels - guess this is how it always starts (I read way too much into those results after I started myself) :) Also, as usually, really high quality video/remarks - you are really good at this - much to learn for starting ytubers from you, thanks!
Such a bloody good video even from this humble landscaper, thanks Buddy
That 3rd one was just amazing!
Love your work always. This was wholesome
Absolutely love this kind of video! I got to decide for myself what worked and how much each one cost- great learning experience for us. Bravo!
Nice video! Great timing too. Btw, it appears you forgot to add the end screen
This channel is pure gold, anyone that wants to grow a UA-cam channel, like it's a must watch
Your videos encompass everything you need to know to get good at UA-cam. And the right video seems to get suggested to me at the right time lol...Many thanks
Working on UA-cam has been a DREAM for a person like me who's creative to their core and enjoys working on their own in many ways.
Watching your videos for the past month and applying your teachings to my videos has not only improved my content, but also my own enjoyment of making it.
Thank you so much for the work you do!
Loved the video!! It was really fun to watch it as a Motion Design myself. Hope you do more like this :)
this is single handedly my most favorite youtube video ever
Great feedback and storytelling on the third editor. Sfx, zooming, branding, pacing, drawing eyes to certain areas. Thanks!
I was surprised that you would have nothing to change on the 3rd video -- it felt super repetitive (most of it was a bit of you, then a bit of screenshot, repeated like 5-10 times in a row)! But I do get that the editor nailed other aspects that the other editors had failed with, and it was very informative that you pointed that out; it brought out details I would've missed otherwise... :)
Anyway! Great video as always!! :)
I'm your raving fan and really love your mindset and the way you analyze as well as the way you deliver your message with story telling and humanity side. I would sign up your coaching program when I have income. Keep your works up because you are so incredible. I wish your channel will grow extremely big. Super thanks from me!
The “which one will get more views” was a brilliant ending.
Thanks for doing this experiment for us Ed!
Ed. You never stop to surprise us with quality. Go higher, champion.
Honestly I'm an OKAY editor on my main channel, but that $65 edit was much better than mine. Well done lad.
❤️ Your Honesty FILMBOOTH!
You showed me the Way, and I am Making Progress!!!
Thanks🤩😇
This is brilliant I've had same problems 😅
Oh boy... Ed's critique of those examples makes me quite ashamed of my editing skills now... as all 3 were lightyears ahead of my skills - hah! Great video, Ed!
that last editor did such a perfect job
Thank you buddy this was a helpful video
thank you so much your videos made me understand and learn more how to be successful on youtube . Very interesting
i really do have to try harder at this editing malarky. great vid cheers buddy
Another video I watched from start to finish, great job Ed.
Video idea: How to make engaging TikToks/shorts. In other words, teach us how to make videos like the one you ranked #1 today.
Excellent work, you give some really great tips for digital media creators 👏 I liked your final choice but the only thing I didn’t like was the interference type effect. Was used too much and kinda jarring. Another thing, it was great that the key part of text was shown, but the changing of angle each time wasn’t ideal for me. Although I do see keeping a flat look would be slightly boring. Clearly Yt doesn’t help a first short, how often should one post shorts to see traction ? 🙏 ty
Great video! I've wanted to do something like this for awhile but I just never got around to it
Again loved the video
The 3rd one clearly stood out! The editor went above and beyond to add visuals and sound effects that made the video more appealing!
isnt that whats normal when editing videos...??? sorry i am an editor with over 2+ years of experience but i have always done those kinds of edits to create mor engaging content
@@lowlever7120 not too sure what the norm is tbh. I think I was comparing the difference between the 3rd one and the rest. Relative to the other videos, it stood out because of those edits. Glad you already do that, keep going! :)
He looked so genuinely DISGUSTED watching the second one 🤣
This was a fun one! I like your critiques of the shorts. It pointed out some of the things I didn't catch while watching. The only thing I didn't really care for on the $65 short was the overuse of the glitch transition, but for $65 it was heaps better than the $145 one.
Yep, I thought my phone was crashing.
I'd love to learn how to brief a video editing job (what instructions to include, how to provide assets/raw footage, how to protect your copyright, etc).
this video inspires me to finish my editor portfolio of short content video to show, work and help clients like you that really are looking for some good job. this video is a good outlook, like, i was thinking all video editors on upwork are really good but yeah, some of reallity is always good.
This is such a smart video idea
Ur vids are getting so muchh better
wow love your vids!!! keep up the good work! :)
I was expecting 500k views or something, finally a breath of fresh air! Congrats on 2 views xD
The words of wisdom from your life coach!! Brilliant!! 🤣🤣🤣
Great vid, enjoyed the storytelling, though now feeling slightly ashamed of my amateur editing skills 😂
Oh Eddie baby, that starter line with, "this is not what I expected at this price is genius." I don't know whether it's unexpectedly good or bad!
Interesting comparison! Thanks for the video :).
😂😂😂 “I’ll start now” got me 😂
What helped for me: A qualifying question or a very specific demand within the description the applicant has to fulfill works great.
Another, not really a nice thing to do, but in fact safes a ton of time is excluding applications from certain countries where the most scammers live. Its sad, but it helps.
3rd video was by far the best, money well spent !
I am also a video editor, worked for many creators. I edited more than 100+ youTube videos till now. If you need some editors then feel free to contact me 👍
Great information!
I really enjoyed that! : )
Thanks dude, it helped my friend alot for gettin customers
1 thing i have noticed working as a freelance video editor is that these "agencies" hire editors at very cheap rates and then they get in find clients or vice versa, but either way they are saturating the market making it difficult for genuine professional editors to find clients.
Wow. Thank you film booth
Great video and great storytelling as always, I'm quite surprised that the guy who came in last takes $145, that was a pretty lousy performance compared to the other cheaper ones
7:41 LMAO your reaction here was great 😂😂
This is amazing bless u
the video I needed to watch
Nice video, please try to post more and more videos on the channel like that🎉
I been watching your channel for a couple weeks now to learn at first but then I also just enjoy the videos as content. So I’m putting a bunch of stuff I been learning into my video I’m currently editing and really hoping it will do well as a whole. Fingers crossed….
I really enjoyed your editing tips! You go into a lot of detail! Do you mind sharing what kind of editing software you use? I’m thinking of leveling up my editing software or lack of one. I’ve edited my videos on my iPhone for the past two years. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
Awesome again :D. Love your video's man! Dont think my shorts are up to snuff. They dont do to well.😂😂
