As a general rule of thumb, the more chill you make your videos, the older your target audience is.
Completely agreed. It works the other way around too. If you already have an older audience, don't do a hype edit.
I'm not old. I'm vintage 🤣
@@PlayfulCrafts lawlz
older *and smarter
Are you saying my friend Casey's audience is old? LOL I feel attacked, because I watch more Mrwhosetheboss than Casey videos. But generally I watch more LTT, JTC and GN.
I feel like today it's pretty easy to be genius on UA-cam or any other social media. You can ramp up your numbers using some tools fairly easy. Likes, views, subs, anything you want, and since I have been using one tool I am having almost no trouble to keep up in loop every day (also a little bit of Famester helps along the way as well). Before it was a hassle to keep up with changes in their algorithms, I don't understand why they have to change it constantly...
Legit tactic, I might need to use this as well
@CandyGrooves who is bot?
I appreciate the feature! Epic vid!
Your videos are truly epic and an inspiration for sure
Gawx, your videos are true inspiration in editing, storytelling, filmmaking and art. Can't wait to see your next one :D
The best storyteller for me. Perhaps because of the jokes he adds to its
Gawx is here🎉
W GAWX!!!!!
I love how the golden rule "show, don't tell" is the same in writing and film. ♥️
It'll blow your mind when you realise that UA-cam is both of those things.
Dear viewers
I wanted to give you all an update on what's been going on with me lately. As some of you may know, I've been moving around, hopping from one Airbnb to another so that I can travel and exploring new places.
The downside of all this is that I'm traveling super light and don't have a lot of my usual equipment with me. In fact, all I have is a tiny light, my trusty camera, and a mic. It's been a bit of a challenge, to say the least!
In my previous video and this one, I had to work with what I had, and the sound quality suffered as a result. Unfortunately, Airbnb listings don't tell you how much echo there might be in the apartment, so I've had to deal with some less-than-ideal acoustics.
I know some of you have mentioned that the sound quality in my remote videos hasn't been great, and I just want to say that I hear you .
I'm always looking for ways to improve and make things better, so if anyone out there has any tips or tricks for remote soundproofing, I'm all ears!
The apartment I'm currently in has marble floors and a pretty minimalist vibe, so I can't really hang anything on the walls to help with sound. But hey, where there's a will, there's a way, right?
Thanks for sticking with me through all of this and for supporting me on my travels. You all are the best!
Until next time,
Hi Ed! All my voice is voiceover, I must record it separately when the house is silent (when my little son and his dad aren't at home, minutes a week). I record on my bed, so the bed lining absorbs ambient noise. I use a lav mic with my phone, I record as video with the OpenCamera app. I'm not helping sorry 😆
Dude sound quality sounds fine and i'm at the :40 second mark.
What the hell is syle @ 10:46
@@Krish-10 I was thinking the same thing 😅!
...All I know is that it's a very "stylish" word. haha!! "syle"... classic!
The TubeBuddy guys mentioned a audio software tool that removes room echo. The guy who sits on the floor in his apartment and records there mentioned it because his room is rather echoey. He played a on and off version and it made a big difference.
I love your content. I went from 0 to 3k subscribers in 10 days, because your videos are game changers. I watch your videos daily at this point and study as much as I can about UA-cam. Thanks for making what you make!

Do you have a video (maybe an upcoming one?) about how to make a 2-person video interesting, if they're both sitting on zoom/streamyard, and talking to each other, do you use the view where they sit there side-by-side with filler imagery above and below them to fill out the blanks that come from ratio issues.. Do this make sense to you?
3:23 M$M a$$hole - no apologies. Keep this comment 4years
One of the hardest things for me to overcome right now is comparing myself to others and trying to be as good or better. really I should just be focusing on what I enjoy doing and how I enjoy to edit. if I’m always doing what other people want it won’t feel authentic and it won’t last.
True, how are you feeling you're doing so far ? :)
I recently entered freelancing video editing and I swear to god I have stumbled upon a gold right here.
You my guy really made me learn quite a lot for Free
I never usually comment on videos whichever platform
But I'm in the process of life where I wanna learn to express my gratitude to people like you who provide quality values! I wish I found this channel wayyy sooner haha
Loved the editing strategies shared in the video! I've been using some of these tips along with boost app social that helps with content creation for my socials. Has anyone else tried it?
Oh yeah! Boost app is dope! It's a massive value!
Impressively amazing! Love how you show the differences when other UA-cam teachers just talk about the differences (yes, I'm talking about you, huge competitor with 10x the subscribers this channel has). This is a keeper video if you are a UA-cam creator, probably the best I've seen from any of the creator teachers. Thank you, Ed.
I am so so SO happy you made this video. because seeing so many editors think that hype editing is THE only thing to do when it's not
This is one of the best videos on this topic of editing I've ever seen! Fantastic job! Very helpful info! Clear and concise! 👍😃
This comparison format is really interesting. Text, characters, showing, sound, movement. I will plan more of these into my next videos.
Great work. This video was hilarious!
I found this video very helpful. When you showed the difference in edits it gave me a glimpse of where in the spectrum I want to be and made me feel okay in not trying to “retention” every 3 seconds with cheap transitions. Subscribed and amazing stuff mate! Thank you❤
Great video, watched the whole thing btw. Also I was gonna agree before ou said it, using all techniques and just form your own style is best.
Love this advice. Focussing on the strategy rather than deploying specific tactics. Bottom line is make videos which are authentic to you and your style (once you kinda work out what that is! LOL!) and you will attract a likeminded audience.
Ed, as always, thanks for the great video, I love watching you weave the video lesson into your own video so seamlessly. Really inspiring.
This is awesome!! I've been needing this broken down to me for a while now and you're the only one who did it. Thank you!
Excellent...

OMG I'm so glad you mentioned Natalie in this video! Her videos are extremely underrated youtube's treasure!🙉
Shes incredibly talented, Gawx too if you've not seen him. Both blow my mind with their talent
Great video again Ed! This is all great advice, and I'll try to incorporate it into my next video. You're the best!
Your videos have been a lot of help in pushing me in the right direction.
I really appreciate.
Natalie is one of our favourite UA-camrs and editors! Everything she makes seems to just work SO well.
Natalie has been my favourite storyteller/youtuber/vlogger for ages she is SO talented. She’s just beyond everyone in my opinion she needs a Netflix show
I can't find her channel 😞
Can anyone help me.
@@kshitijgamerofficial There is a link in Film Booth info at top of page
That would be a downgrade
I absolutely love the more simple edited videos, I also absolutely love Natalie's films
This was a great vid. Really entertaining and genuinely inspired me to rethink my editing strategy. Thanks for the content bro!
Perfect point. A lot of advice is contradicting the other. Two opposites styles say "This is the way" and it's easy to be confused. But you outlined it perfectly, making me calmer that success depends on the right style.
And the right style = your style. (I mean - mine)
retention is not about editing, it's about how you package things!💜
Well said.
Indeeed.
So in other words editing? It's the main factor in Mr.beast's huge viewership.
this is so freaking interesting! My edits are mostly for short-form videos on IG and TT, so it's incredible to see that I was applying some of these rules already and they work! Thanks!
Brilliant video, thank you! Makes a LOT of sense too! Once again, thanks for the content! 👍
Gawx art is such an underrated creator.
His videos look like they're straight out of a netflix special show
Great summary, great examples. Really insightful and instructive video, thanks!
i was so excited to see you mention Natalie!! i hadn’t heard of any of the other youtubers until natalie came up lol
#5 is where I am struggling developing my channel right now, I love the chill aesthetic, but I also am an absolute psychopath so I feel like my internal self and how I want to protray my channel are at war with each other. That and I'm still getting used to being in front of a camera, not behind it. 😅
Natalie’s videos are pure art 🔥
Wow that's a lot of valuable information for any creator. Thanks! ♥️
This is exactly the video I have been searching for in the last few days. Thank you so much !
Excellent video thank you
Thank you so much for this banger Ed! Good editing is definitely important! I noticed on my newest video I got more engagement and comments on video just by leveling up my editing! Sure it wasn't easy but it was worth it!
This was an awesome video!!!!! Thank you for always being so helpful
Wow, this video was so helpful and informative! I learned a lot of new editing tricks that I can use for my own videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us. You are such a talented and creative editor. I love your style and your voice. Keep up the amazing work! 👏👏👏
At the end of the day it's about being you. It's about being authentic. If the viewers perceive that it's about your passion doing videos how you do them, I would believe that that's the main element to get a certain viewership hooked. And of course different UA-camrs target different types of viewerships.
Exactly!
Natalie Lynn is pure gold with the storytelleing and vintage cinematic look. Love that girl 👌🏻
Great video. Definitely helped me conceptualize what I want to do in my next edit.
This was a very helpful video, thanks for your perspective!
Your editing also uses a lot of nice tricks I notice. It's good, I like it.
There are basically 2 kind of UA-camrs, the ones like mrwhosetheboss, who extremely edit their videos to make sure you pay attention, and the ones like you, who actually have useful information to say and add less effects because you trust in your own words to be enough. Nice work as usual.
I actually respect MWTB and I feel he really likes his audience
At the same time this is implying that people who edit ALOT don't have anything useful to say, which is IMO a really unfair thing to just assume.
This guy edits a shit ton 😂
You always give really nice and non-vague tips and tricks on how to make better UA-cam videos instead of just basic advice like improving your titles and thumbnails and making your videos better somehow.
Natalie is great! I was so surprised to see her channel mentioned but she 100% deserves it.
So entertaining! Loved the video, thanks for the great tips! You‘re really on another level when it comes to entertaining educational videos!
Loved the video! The editing in the video itself was so gooood!😮
This is the kind of comprehensive breakdown we needed! I'm team 80% chill 20% thrill.
5:04 LOL NICE ONE 😂😂😂 i really learn something useful with this. anyway, can you give tips for viewer / niche that have a reaaally short attention span (average 10 seconds)? my channel is focusing on shorts video, but if my video is passed the 10 seconds safety net, it always perform badly. my strategy for now is just to make sure my video is bellow 10 seconds 😅
There is no niche or audience with a 10-second attention span, simply because these people watch movies in their entirety, TV shows and series, and UA-cam videos when they are consciously or unconsciously hooked by the content or format or approach they are watching.
Cool
This video was a unique one for Ed. But what styles that he mentioned do you think he used in this video? That’s where the secret is. Use Ed’s videos to pretty much learn everything he teaches, and everything he learns. This guy needs some big time appreciation!
He's a good of example of "show, don't tell"
I just had to subscribe, because this guy is hilarious 😂.
This is quality content 🔥
I really enjoy your videos Ed, and I hope I see more of your videos in the new year 😆
I completely understand and agree with the fact that editing has an enormous narrative power in itself. It is the key to the success and failure of many films (I am a documentary filmmaker and have my own UA-cam channel). However, I notice that the function of editing is transforming for the worse, no longer at the service of a more engaging and profound storytelling but functional to capturing the spectator's superficial attention, almost stealing seconds from him in a furtive manner and not linked to a truly profound interest. . I don't know, it seems to me that it's important to sometimes give up overly instrumental editing and let the content (always well edited) capture the audience that likes it on its own, just my little opinion, what do you think?
Yes. I agree. But the issue is UA-cam discriminates. And they won’t send impressions your way.
You should rank yourself with the top editors because you are one of the best in my opinion!
thanks for the video, really amazing details!
Excellent video. I am always confused about how much to edit. I guess you made it clear to me. It's all about what is your target audience? I prefer to be on the chilled team. Thank you Ed that was helpful.
As a professional editor that has been doing this for over 10 YEARS You blew my mind. THANK YOU
The level of commitment that this man puts into trying to educate his audience is insane. Props to the entire team for putting these together. Let us like this video to show our love back.
Ok - that "B" on your shoulder legit had me laughing out loud. Gold!
Great tips! Super valuable info for creators :) editing really can make all the difference
I need to start using text. Thank you.
natalie lynn herself is a living art. yt recommended her videos to me 3 days ago and I already watched almost all of her videos. her videos are so beautiful and you can tell that it is an art for her. i love it so much its just beautiful
Needing this for sooo long 💯💯
“The more you show the better.” Love it 🔥💯🙏
Are you team hype edit or team chilled edit?
Hype edit definitely
Also I love ur videos!
Is there a middle team?
Hey man thanks for everything as ever. I always wanted to know where the best place to find those little clips that youtubers use etc its hard to find everything on youtube itself
A bit of both. I love doing motion graphics maps, etc, but generally go with more of the chill style otherwise.
I prefer chill editing since that will increase the quantity and not only does that mean more experimenting but also more of my ideas and opinions out there. Chill editing also makes it easier not to accidentally steal from anybody’s creation. For example, in one of my videos I just used trailers so that way I don’t have to steal hard worked edited personal gameplay from other people.
You should start by looking at your audience demographics. Older audiences (let's say above 35) can't stand hype edits more often than not. I accidentally attracted an older audience with the topics I cover and my lack of editing skills 😜 I've gotten compliments for not using music, no busy editing and just showing and explaining things they are interested in.
To everyone uploading videos. Please don't ever stop creating! Consistency is the key!
If music is your passion we are here!
I love videos like this, this is amazing! Lots of lessons learned and mental notes were taken. I just filmed my first YT video and am about to start editing and of course I have watch tons of videos like this. New subscriber here, thanks
Was 10:47 "SYLE" (for "style") an intentional "made ya look" moment? 🤔 Cool advice, by the way, especially the list at the end 💙
Guarantee you it was one of his comment goals to get people to talk and comment about it.
That one sticks out so hard, it's not possible that it was a mistake.
@@nicholasarnaud9782 seems rather likely!!
No im dyslexic, I never want these in, I get emails shouting at me about my typos, they are never intentional and im always quite embarrassed about them
@@FilmBooth No ed you put it there on purpose! I feel bad now :(
I also am dyslexic, I also get made fun of sometimes for my mistakes.
We love you!
@@FilmBooth thank you, and sorry if it sounded like a dig! It seemed intentional only because the topic was "how to use on-screen text in editing" (so, like a teachable moment kind of a thing), but of course these things just happen sometimes 😊
Natalie Lynn is an incredible artist. It's actually crazy to me that she's not got millions of subscribers yet. She's probably the most exciting prospect when it comes to short films and storytelling.
Your video resonated with me on a deep level. I was ready to give up, but you've reminded me why I started. Thank you immensely!
Bro you started your channel less than 24 hours ago 💀💀
that wasn’t my first attempts or the only one@@jameswaterson3883
Really enjoyed this one. I will say each video I produce uncovers a bit more of my natural editing style.
Dear Content Makers! Share your opinion, is it possible to start making money on UA-cam from scratch and without investments in 1 month, devoting all the time to this business? If yes, share your experience) I want to conduct such an experiment)
Thanks for sharing. I'm really trying to find out how to create the best fishing videos I can! These "Basics to Master" give me some good ideas.
Great video! As a newbie I appreciate all this info 🙏🏻
Amazing breakdown!! Thanks for this
Love this video! Thanks for sharing your tips!
Thanks for all the great videos! I just found your tool kit links, and thought you might want to know recut is available for premiere and also PC now! Thanks so much for the recommendation. Excited to try it out.
Great information! In my videos, I lean towards chilled editing. But I watch both.
Yooo I was so hyped to see Natalie in this, the best youtuber ever honestly.
Thanks for sharing Mr Film Booth learning alots now. 🙏😍
Value your content and breakdown man! cheers! 🍻🍻
Pausing the video to commend you on an editing technique that might get looked over. That Cast Away reference was PERFECT ( and funny lol).
Thank you for this great informational video! 😊
Thanks for this! Very inspiring!
What about your own videos? That is what I call great editing! I was ready to subscribe, but then I saw that I had already done that! Love, love your personality and the entertainment!
Came here to watch this video, just to get anblitze insight and mostly kill time while on the toilet :D
Video turned out to be an absolute awesome piece of information :)
Thank you 🙏
This video was so interesting especially the part about the editing style and the video tone matching. That's something I'm still trying to figure out for myself, which kind of editing style matches my videos more. I like to make my videos look pretty but also authentic, I like creative editing but at the same time I'm worried that it might come off over-edited and take away from the authenticity.
Incredibly valuable video ... thanks so much!
Literally one of the best advice on UA-cam..thank u
Syle at 10:45. What do I win???
Lol great vid man! I’m always eager to apply what I learn from your vid’s to my own content! Keep it up!
Great video idea! I needed that. Graphics and text are very important.
This is what I have looking for thanks film booth💖
Really enjoyed this video as a video editor. Thanks!🎉
