It’s amazing stuff. I rocked out to Burzum all day today at work. It sent me to a dark, desolate headspace and allowed me to focus and get some shit done.
This album is great if I’m walking in the forest in autumn or if I’m driving through in the mountains in a snow storm, or listing on LP in my basement as a youth while reading Tolkien 😅 it’s not rock n roll, it’s not meant to “get my jive on”
The point of so called "second wave of black metal" was to sound raw, grim and icy. Varg went a step further and recorded this whole album with a hi-fi tower in place of studio and a pair of headphones in place of mic. If you want to go down the rabbit hole, try Satyricon and their song "Mother North" (original video, not the one from the opera).
This music is made to just truly feel it, put it on some earphones and walk through a empty dark street, or just a rural area, it will gonna feel totally different.
Fair play for listening to this track. Burzum is more talented than may first appear. Listening to the whole album makes more sense. How the quieter tracks which act as tonics to the louder tracks really work. On a technical level, I love how the distorted notes crash into each other. Some cancelling each other out and creating a new sound
The thumb nail is fuckin hilarious. I love this YT genre of black ppl reacting to the most white (even pro white) music like "shyyyt dayum he goin in! Low key dis slaps!" 😂😂😂
He recorded the double kick pedal not having one and added another (1) kick in between each kick turning it into double kick throughout the whole song. It’s like taking a piece of a cell bar from a prison cell and carving it into a shank/bone crusher. Using what you have. Absolutely incredible. Especially the other history on how this album and other instruments were recorded. It’s literally insane.
Completely agree still masterclasses that i love listening from time to time, it aged very well despite the bad audio, imagine this a lil bit more clean, genius work way ahead of its time still better than most stuff than a lot of recent stuff.
IIRC the vocals were all done on the shittiest helicopter headset that he could find so they sounded extra distorted. Varg can turn literal garbage into the best black metal album of all time.
I joked myself just a moment ago, but honestly I doubt he would actually be mad. That is such an American/ Western thing to get pissy about politics and opposing view points. He even showed respect to Kanye! Racism is a fucked up but also kind of a funny thing, where you can have certain beliefs but completely contradict yourself. I find it ridiculous myself, but what is even more ridiculous is how many both legit racist white dudes got black folks in their lives that they do authentically give a shit about, and how those same black folks know their views and still have love for that individual. The only people who don't get it, are upper class snobby white people. Fact.
Unfortunately he would be rude about it judging by his interactions with black fans in the comment section of his old channel. He does make great music though
I disagree with most of Vargs Philosophy and politics but I enjoyed listening to his perspective regardless... we're all entitled to opinion and although Varg has very controversial opinions. We shouldn't cancel people because of opinions. Freedom of speech!
Black metal isnt for everyone tbh... but to those who vibe with it, its next level cosmic shit.. xD i would have recommended something else like Anaal Nathrakh - The Codex Necro or smth.. but maaaan!! hats off!! black metal for the first time and dude with thru it all like a PRO!!!!! 98% of my friends would have removed their earpods right off the second i pressed start! 5:49 True words my friend.. true words!

I wore this shirt to work just yesterday, where I work with a couple people from Africa and have multiple Black clients. It makes me smile on various levels knowing both Varg and the "woke" would grimace, seeing me joking with my coworkers that I respect and love while holding a Black child in my arms. That's where its at for me, sorry for the rest of you that aren't here with me. I'm good!!

I stabbed the air 23 times in self defence whilst listening to this song
WOAH DON'T DISRESPECT ØYSTIEN

Black-Metalist: "Thanks!"
My daughter came in the room the other day while I was listening to Cradle of Filth and said “these guys sound like gremlins.” 😅
Damn i love when people that have no idea what black metal is reacts to black metal LOL This was funny as shit.
This song has to be experienced at least 5 times to grasp half of the mezmerizing experience this song truely is.

That's probably the combination that made his black metal so great

Filosofem is definitely one of my top 5 black metal albums. I actually listen to Gebrelichkeit II as ambience to take naps to.
@@zod-engineering-welding it is a great album
Awesome song, glad you listened
fan fact i ve heard, the whole Filosophem album was recorded with no microphones so that the audio would be more raw and authentic
