In my opinion Burzum will always be the best black metal band. Dunkelheit was the first song I heard, and it changed my life forever. I was a big death/grind fan before, but that second I became a black metaller.
The thing with a band like Burzum, or even this particular song, its not a 'song' as you would think of a song. The whole idea is creating a soundscape, and an ambient done with metal , hence why its got that cold sound , and repetitive. Its not supposed to be full of solos, and toe tapping melodies. Its for the walk through dark dense ancient forest.
well said... Burzum grew on me the more I listen to it, songs feel shorter and shorter the more you listen to, which is kind of weird cause it's supposed to be other way around, but it's all about setting the mood
It's supposed to be music for meditation, I guess. They could've done the song alot shorter but then you'd miss the point. It's simply not meant to be short and condensed. It's easy to play and boring to play but that is also besides the point. It's not supposed to be fun or challenging to play. It's meditation to play and listen to. That's how I see it and Burzum has done some amazing black metal meditation songs through the years. Just take a deep dive and go with flow!
been listening to black metal since 2000. to me that album is what got me into Burzum but in hindsight if it weren't for the song Jesu dod and the more ambient stuff towards the end of the album it would have been a fail IMO. the ambient aspect of burzum was better on earlier records because it came after some metal riffs right, once it became a purpose onto itself it became boring. Earlier albums have a different flaw tho- the vocals, which are understandable because it was a scene in it's infancy so there wasn't a developed style of the whole black metal vocals, but still sound hilarious. i'd recommend Emperor - The acclamation of bonds for a video, even tho i like their earlier stuff more as well.
For a first time listening to Burzum would have been better a shorter song like Lost Wisdom or Key to the Gate. But if you want something that sounds way better i would recomend Burzum - Glemselens Elv.
For a more traditional burzum song from the same album that fucking slaps try beholding the daughters of the firmament. Its fucking incredible and the lyrics are legit amazing. The alternate title is erblicket die töchter des firmaments
Fair assessment imo. Not a native speaker, but the Germans have a saying: "In der Beschränkung zeigt sich der Meister". Don't quote me on this tho. So "less is more", I guess? Well that's more or less what we got. Hope I'm not offending any die-hard Burzumites out there, but dare I say that their music is somewhat of an acquired taste? Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘
@@ge.0 In my opinion it is the absolute best one they have, however there are 2 versions and the good one on UA-cam is the one with the music video. it's really kind of different from these other Burzum songs you may dive into.

@@ge.0ok that the LP name. For a video maybe the track "Lost Wisdom" would be best.
Cheers

of course a verse is going to repeat the same riff again and again, but thats what the vocals are for...
try Ea. Lord of The Depths, music video strictly. It's the best they have.
Ill check it out
