At 8:42, the purpose of the sprocket guard is to keep the chain from catching the studs should it ever come off the sprocket and instantly locking your rear wheel.
thanks for solving the mystery of that part for me , for the longest time I didn't know what it was for, not even the dealership where I bought it at the time didn't know what it was for. So im wondering if that's the main purpose of it why doesn't all bikes have this!?
AC Productions Yeah I'm not sure man! I left mine off and my old dirt bike didn't have the studs it had thous set bolts that sat flush with the sprocket. with proper maintenance it should be fine.. Ride safe man!...
Remember, these guys know what they're doing. Don't just wander into this project on your own willy-nilly. Having a chain malfunction/disconnect for any reason while traveling at speed is a very dangerous situation, the chain won't necessarily slink right off onto the road, I've seen chains get jammed up in the sprocket assembly which locks up the rear tire immediately with no warning. And this was after the dealership replaced the chain and "applied incorrect tension", so even "professionals" can mess this up. Great video but I probably won't be changing my own chain anytime soon, but the dealership also isn't exactly a risk-free option either. I'll just set my set my bike on fire when the time comes for a new chain I guess.
Also, if you do attempt your own chain and sprocket install, use the service manual as a guide, not this video. It contains multiple incorrect practices and shortcuts.
IT'S A PROTECTION GUARD , IF THE CHAIN COMES OFF THE BACK SPROCKET IT STOPS THE CHAIN FROM DAMAGING THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL . KIND REGARDS FROM AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺
@@ACProductions77 I really appreciate your videos, you cover pretty much all the bases on this bike. Your HID projector retrofit video helped me immensely; reviewed it many times with great results 👍.
Great video!! I have a question, my r3 is giving me a kick when I fully release the clutch mainly in first gear. Did your old chain gave you that same feeling? It’s like impossible to have a super smooth takeoff.
Nice video bro. May i know what type of chain did you used and how many links? I've been watching your video many times. Also downloaded it but all i can see was x-ring type heheh
AC Productions I'm doing pretty good then I check my chain about every 300 -500 miles. I'm now thinking ill be able to get about 20k before a replacement

It's like a chain catcher bro! If your chain broke it keeps it from jamming up on your sprocket bolts and locking up your rear tire.

It keeps your chain out of wheel if thrown.

Thank you for the reply on what that part is to bad not all sprockets come with this part.
The chain basket prevents your chain from wrapping and locking up the rear wheel. Don't skip that bro.
I dont know why dont all bikes have this safety feature
Awesome video as usual 👍. I don't see the reason to break the chain off when your replacing the rear sprocket and removing the wheel anyways?
its because I was also replacing the chain as well.

Yea I’m with David on this, that’s just adding a unneeded step.
It keeps the chain from getting caught in the bolts, if it ever slips off or brakes.
Thank you for the reply, I’m not sure why don’t all bikes have this safety feature

that's awsome, yes with proper maintenance you should be able to get a lot of miles on the chain. Keep up the good work =)

Don’t ever trust those chain adjuster alignment mark they are way off from being properly aligned.
there is another type of tool used to align the chain I show it in a upcoming video
