It’s part of the reason I stopped talking to her. She was like “I CAN USE AND BREAK YOUR PROPERTY AS I PLEASE! I DONT CARE THAT YOU WORKED TO BUY IT! When I got selected to college, my mom bought me a laptop and some other room organization stuff. My uncle (my mom's brother) visited me then and argued with me more than 2hrs saying that she should've spend it on something else other than spoiling me. (Wtf I get selected to college only once and she's my mom and I didn't even have a laptop before). Soon after I got to know that he wanted to burrow some money from my mom to buy him some house appliances but my mom refused to do that ca's money was tight.
PS: My uncle is employed, his wife too and he did not have money issues. We did, and my mom wanted me to celebrate it when I entered college.

We are talking the one that steals your favorite jacket or shoes even though they clearly do not fit her at all simply because she knew they are your favorite. She also tried to scream at me and "tell Mommy" on me when she could not find my cash stash. Not kidding. She literally tried to tell my 17 year old self that I should tell her where I had hidden over $2K in saved allowances and summer jobs. The last one was a few years back when she asked why I had not come to visit her and her daughter. Didn't even know she had a kid.

Honestly, it's the parent's fault for spoiling their children.
I have a decade younger brother, I teach him what he needs to know to be independent, and when he encounters something he really doesn't know how to do then we'll do it together.
Eventually your kids will be independent adults.
    Keep that in mind.

One night I was talking to mom about stuff and she happened to mention how it would be difficult to pay my bro's fees once he reaches college. I was really scared of being homeless, in debt and suicide (I used to watch a lot of movies) since my dad was the sole breadwinner of my family and what he did earn wasn't enough for everything.
A few years later, I was in middle school when he finished high school ( later, he dropped two years to get into a med school), my mom started talking about his fees to my dad, and I was genuinely scared thinking we won't get an education loan on time, so for an entire year I cut all my extra costs so that they could save some more money; a year later only for me to find out that they had already gotten, although half, the applied loan and what I did was not really necessary. I mean, for an entire year, I stayed home, didn't even shop for clothes, even wore shoes instead of sandals 'cause my slippers were torn and I wanted to save as much as possible. I was literally that scared.

Kind of sounds like some of mine. Lol. I used to do everything for my two younger sisters. Took them to get their hair and makeup done for school dances (or did myself one I went to school for it all), bought their dresses, got their nails and toes done. We did stuff like this and zoo trips, dinners, weekend stays, etc.... tons of time spent with them, and money. The older of the two youngest had the nerve to get mad bc I had to work one time, I honestly can't remember what she wanted but it wasn't anything important, told me I never do anything for her and don't love her at all. She was dead serious and hasn't talked to me in 3 years. It was something like I couldn't give her a day off at the daily pizzeria bc everyone else was already off and I was already covering for two other people at the at the same time. I'm not positive that was it, but that did happen often there. So who knows. I know I only made $6.50 an hour to run the whole place, manage the books, do literally everything there, no over time pay, run their house hold insisting taking care of their diabetic dog, other two did and two cats. So even though I was heartbroken the first two years this last year I realized it was a great thing. However now my ex step mom of over 21 years and my youngest sister also don't talk to me. No reason other than my dad and her got divorced after she was cheating and stealing money from his business accounts ($2500 a month for almost the full 21 years).... I guess I should be happy we don't two anymore instead of offended. Just hard when I tried and did so much.

Yeah...I raised my older and younger sis since I was 8. My parents were drunks and screwed up i was the only one who cooked, did laundry, etc. Both sisters got pregnant as teens and I had been on my own since 15, so I babysat for free, paid to help them, then at 19, I realized my parents were helping them financially. But couldn't help me ever...so I moved out of city. My sisters would come visit to party and I would pay for everything....then when I moved out of state to Las Vegas for a job, I was the bad guy, I abandoned them...and they didn't talk to me for 3 years, then we would be fine then 5 years then find...
Now I realize they only talk to me when they are fighting with each other. 🤣😂. I literally take nothing they say or do to heart cause they are petty. I just let them talk, share nothing, and move on,

This brought back to me something I had for some reason been thinking about the last couple days. When my sister's grandson was born she asked me to make him a quilt and she would pay me. Dumb me didn't discuss HOW MUCH she would pay. So they come over to the house with two sets of totally uncoordinated fabrics and a story of what the clerk at Walmart had told them what would look good. So I had to establish that I didn't have to make it following the WM person's idea which was stupid. They said I could do my thing. So I figured out a ways to combine the two sets of fabric and bought more fabric to get it to look right, bought the batting, bought the backing, bought the thread, spent over 40 hours making this quilt. When she saw it said it looked nice and handed me a check and by the look on her face it looked like she felt that she was paying WAY TOO MUCH for what she was getting. She gave me $65! I had chipped in probably $20 of my own bucks, plus all the labor and she thought I was being fairly compensated? I made her something else as a gift a few years later and her reaction made me know that I would never, ever make anything for her again. Yet for the life of me, I do not remember her ever doing anything for me (she isn't creative) and anytime she thought she had a good audience she would proceed to tell them stories about how awful I was to her in the past! She would do this with me right there hearing every word. We are not the sisters that they make those dopey pillows and stuff that say something like "birth made us sister but love made us friends". Rage meter high. She also called one day to ask if my husband would play the music at her daughter's wedding. I told her he couldn't as he didn't have any piano that he could practice on (he repaired pianos). Her response? Why would he need to practice? He hadn't played for 10 years and his vision had gotten so bad that he couldn't even read music anymore! Who expects someone to play music at a wedding for both free and without being able to practice? Only an entitled sister. She plays an instrument, so she is aware of the need to practice before a performance.

I'll share my sibling experience which may make you feel a little better about being an only child.
So my sister is 5 years older than me, and when I came home from the hospital she said, "what is it doing here"?
She proceeded to call me "it" for 4 more years. We were never close growing up. I tried tagging along with her and really wanted her to like me.
Yeah.. she was very entitled, spoiled, and selfish so she was pissed she had to share anything. As she got older she carried with her the dislike for children.
She still called them "its", and had no interest in being a mom. When I was older and got pregnant she told me to abort my daughter. She explained why women should only be allowed 2 kids, and why we should have population control.
So basically, I had a sibling and still felt like an only child. Only truthfully, I feel like it hurts more having a sibling that just doesn't care about you or anyone.
Welp.. hopefully my sibling story makes you feel a little better about being an only child. Cause even having a sibling, I still longed for an actual sibling relationship.

A couple of years ago my sister asked me to sew a dress for my niece. One just like the dress Penny, the little girl in the Disney Movie "The Rescuers" wore.
So I sew a dress, just asked for the material. I delivered and she payed, but complaining that she should get a sibling bonus (meaning nothing to pay in her book. I should be greatful she let´s me be in her present), so I said, it if just the material, the time I took to work out how to sew it and make it was not included.
    She was cranky with me.
The next day she demanded her money back, as her daughter didn´t like the dress, as it did not move like the one in the movie (a cartoon movie, where clothes always move unnatural swooshing back and forth)
So I gave her the money back and took the dress (her face was like (oh you could have left the dress) and said "My daughter will grow into it and wear it without complaining.
    Never again

The expecting your siblings to do things for free is wild to me. As a creative, if I use my siblings and sometimes their/my friends in my work I offer to give them a ride, order Starbucks for everyone, order lunch if it’s a long shoot or take them out to dinner after, and give them references for job applications. And that’s if I’m doing a personal project. If I’m making money off the work, I pay them a percentage of whatever I make… like they worked hard, they deserve something back?

Same with my little brother. He spent his entire life doing nothing but playing videogames and smoking weed. He managed to get himself registered as "not able to work" and is collecting welfare, which he uses to pay for said hobbies. Contrary to him, I've worked my ass off since I was 16 and have managed a career with a fairly generous paycheck every month. So my little brother now feels it's my job as big brother to provide him with a drivers license and a car. Not just any car of course, has to be a new one.
I just told him that if he worked hard, but just kept running into bad luck, I would support him 100%. But not with the lifestyle he has chosen. Of course he says that if the situation were reversed, he would provide me all I wanted lol.

But she knows I've always wanted to go to NYC and that's her way of paying me back. I'm perfectly happy with that. Like I said, I didn't expect anything from her, I just didn't want her to get evicted. She's helped me out in the past before. I usually don't have money to help, but in those cases I did. That kid's birthday list talking about "don't get anything similar get exactly this" idk why but it reminded me of the one year during Christmas time my extended family was doing a polyana (which we do every year) and it's just one of those ones where everyone brings a gift and puts it on the table and we all take turns picking one like there is no way to know who will end up with he gift you bring. So my turn comes and I open this box to a hideous pink scarf lmao which probably came from Five Below or Dollar Tree (the limit was $25) and I pretended to be happy with it, but my uncle started going off like "who tf brought this?! If I would've opened a pink frilly scarf I would've been pissed" etc. Which I agreed with but it was still awkward.

If you live in a place where public pools are free or low cost, it's pretty great. I miss living where my city has free public pools. Sometimes they have wacky hours because they didn't get enough life guards. Sometimes in a heat wave how many the number in the pool is capped. You have to wait your turn until the next 30 minutes. Sometimes they extend a few extra hours if it's that hot that it's a public crisis but you still have to wait. It's free. Miss the public pools. The other option is a swim club and half a season is at least $500...
