As a hobbyist quilter, I run into this ALL the time. The materials required and the time it takes for even just a small baby quilt is quite a bit, but people don't ever seem to understand that. I'll gift someone that I know a quilt, then all of a sudden people I've never even met before demand to have a quilt done for near-free and within a couple of days time. Yeah. No. I've learned my lesson early on, and I hope all of you artists out there do, too. Value your time, your money, and your love for what you do, and don't ever feel guilty about saying "no" to someone who doesn't share the same value in your talents!
I used to make specialty cakes, everything from wedding cakes to character cakes. I've been paid over 600 dollars for a cake in the 80's. People started asking me for "free" character cakes because I would make them for my own sons' birthdays and cakewalks for their school festivals to raise money. I would be like "what"???? It took days to make an Oscar the Grouch cake, or a Cookie Monster, etc., days to build a trashcan, bake two or three layer cakes, make marzipan eyes, etc., and these people would whine about the cost of the materials, let alone pay me for my time and effort, and I had a houseful of kids... When all my boys were out of grade school I sold all my gear. All of it.
I sew and quilt in my spare time but I will not sell quilts or clothes. I give things as handmade gifts to friends or family as the materials and labour costs can never be recuperated plus profit. My nan was an amazing textile artist and was approached by a high end UK department to sell her art quilts but she refused as the offer would never cover the cost of her time spent hand quilting her masterpieces.
My aunt is an amazing quilter. She has done a few as birth gifts for friends and never charges them. She is a midwife and one of her closest colleagues is a woman my aunt helped bring into the world. My aunt was close to the mom and when the daughter became a midwife at the same hospital as my aunt she was beyond thrilled. My aunt made the most beautiful quilt when she gave birth and took it into the hospital, and left it in the nurse locker room. Only nurses and cleaning staff had access and some pond scum stole it. After pictures were put on social media and posters put up with pictures of it in the private staff only areas it suddenly "mysteriously reappeared". Some people are just vile, stealing a birth gift from a new mom. Fortunately it was so lovely and unique (it had the baby's name stitched into it) it became too hot to handle and the thief returned it.
One of the night desk staff at my housing complex spends the slow hours crocheting turtles with a pouch inside for herbs and potpourri. She plans to sell them on the net for a low and very reasonable price for a little extra cash. I stay and chat with her sometimes and see that handmade goods take money, material, and time; I wouldn't dream of asking for one for free. At the most it would be " maybe change your usual color combo and I'll have the money by the first of the month".
As an artist I'm actually asked for donations and free or discounted stuff all the time, mainly people who think they could do a better job also claim to love your stuff
@@jennifermoriarty2188 True. But open up with it. Don't be that prick that strings along, but then backtracks everything with "love your work but I don't want to pay at all." Don't hound them for a handout.
I paid my cousin for her art. I told her "no discounts, I'm a paying customer. You charge me what you would charge anyone else" I want my cousins art business to grow, not take advantage of her skills. I wish people would realize how much sweat and tears are put into any kind of handmade arts and crafts.
That's honestly how a true family should act. In fact, family member should pay more than a normal customers, because they of course want to support their family, right? Happened once in my aunt's diner though. My grandma insisted on paying while my aunt insisted that it's in the house (my grandparents didn't have any income nor pension so their children all gave them money every month based on how much rzey could afford). My grandma won the round but the next day, my aunt came by bringing some of her most expensive dishes to grandma and claimed it was leftover so she gave it away 😂😂😂.
As a reformed felon I am loving the first tattoo shop owners response and thanks Charlotte for believing that some of us can change. Anyone who reads this have a great day.
Frankly, i know a ton of people that are and they are some of the most amazing people ever. A past mistake (or 2) shouldn’t define the entire rest of your life. People *can* and *do* change! Blessings to you for a long and happy life.
@@msimms1917 thank you! Mine was non-violent so I am not judged as harshly in my community as some. But I'm also a recovering addict. (6+years clean) so that tends to hold a stigma. But I'm just thankful to be sober and law abiding decent person. I'm not too concerned with tjose who judge me. I get it in a way but I'm also to busy being happy with my lufe that.i pay them little attention. Have a blessed life as well!
As someone who works with felons in the mental health field, I can say that MANY ex-felons CAN turn there lives around. I love this shop for helping people get back on their feet. I’d go there if I knew where it was!
Me & my BF have both turned our lives around after prison. I know tons of felons who no one knows they have been away because they learned thier lesson and are now law-abiding citizens. I also know people that LOOK like they've been away for years that have never had so much as a parking ticket....
Exactly my husband of 13 years is a convicted felon it was from something that happened when he was 18 he only had to do 2 years (he really got a shit deal it was just for a domestic dispute between him and his brother his brother attacked him my husband defended himself with what was considered a deadly weapon and when my husband refused to press charges on his brother… the cops talked his brother into pressing charges on HIM and he got railroaded in court 😢 he’s an amazing man and is such a good dad with our 11 year old son ❤
100%!!! My bestie’s husband is a successful professional & extremely talented at his hobbies, they do a lot of charitable donations & volunteer work. He served two years almost 20 years ago. I used to do resumes & career development coaching with women in a culinary arts prison program. It was a great experience, and most of the women I worked with are successfully rehabilitated and are happy to be “good guys” now. The most important thing they wanted on their resumes was the list of volunteer work they did, and for many, being in the news for doing good was a literal dream come true. Kitchens rarely require resumes, so I asked my friend/the director why they all wanted them so much, other than as a reference for applications. The design was really, really important to them. My friend explained that many hadn’t seen their name on a positive document in many years, nor have they had control over how they present themselves to society. A page of “compliments” about them needed to have the perfect font & style, and I really loved how much they appreciated the work I did, tbh. Also, tattoo shops aren’t the best place to avoid felons 😂 if you want a tattoo or a restaurant meal, get your head right hahaha, those places are great for employing former inmates.
The people who go from “Love your work” to strings of obscenities because the artist dares to ask for payment are. . . really, really scary. I don’t want to encounter people that volatile IRL, but they appear to be everywhere. I’ll be under my bed.
That last one, though!! Sheesh! The artist was SO polite the whole time and even offered to lower the price after it was clear what kind of entitled person they were dealing with ... Kudos to her. As for the entitled person with the potty mouth? I feel bad for her kids. Can't be easy having such a mom.
I’m also a convicted felon in my early 20’s i did what I was supposed to do and now I’m a wife and a mother everyone has done stupid stuff and we learn from it so after seeing your take on felons I am officially subscribed to your channel great content!
I would say personally it's depending on the crime. If I was getting a tattoo on my body and then found this guy on the sex registry list, I would want my money back...the inconvenience fee is ridiculous. I somehow doubt this was the case because she for sure would have brought that up. Other crimes such as burglary, drugs ect. He paid his time and now has turned his life around. In my opinion most people deserve a second chance, especially 20 years ago, which means he was probably very young when his crime took place. I would hate to be judged for all my past mistakes for the rest of my life. But again, if it was anything with SA, no way would I want that person to touch my body. Sorry if that makes me sound like a bad or petty person, it's just my truth, I think a lot of women feel the same way even if they wouldn't publicly say so.
I crochet and have for 31 years now (started at 8yrs old). I’ve had plenty of people ask me for things and I charge based on what I’m making, materials, and how long it takes. I had someone ask me to crochet a queen sized Afghan but said they’d pay me $20. I laughed and said that is not going to be less than 100 and prices go up from there depending also on how difficult it is. She said she can find it cheaper at Walmart, well then, go to Walmart! They have their crap done by machine which looks cheap and they fall apart quickly. The 20 dollars wouldn’t have even covered all the materials. She wanted it done it a chunky wool yarn and they aren’t cheap! I hate choosing beggars!
I also crochet and one time the mom of a friend asked if I could free-form crochet her a long cardigan, floor-length, with all different colors... She saw it on etsy for 500$ and thought I would make it for her for free! Some people are just crazy 🤪
My mom crochets as well. She made a beautiful christening gown with bonnet and baby Mary Jane shoes all with antique pearl buttons. She had it priced for $125 at a craft fair and some Karen with horrible bright orange dyed hair, waaay too much makeup, huge sunglasses and more fake jewelry than you cold find in a Walmart and tried to low ball her for $25. I laughed so hard I fell off my chair. She then started to lecture my mom about how she could tell it was machine made, she could see where the tag was cut off, yadda yadda. It was unbelievable.
Wow...Im so tired of people that treat artists like their time, talent, and resources shouldn't factor into the price of the actual product they produce. Yes, you can buy it cheaper at Walmart. However, it will look like you did..You get what you pay for.
You gave me such a pleasant memory. My mother crocheted and taught me. She would do enormous Afghans and people would pay her very well. Well those days are most certainly gone. I decided recently to pick this wonderful hobby back up. As I type today I'm crocheting a scarf for a friend for free...however she mentioned it to another friend who asked could I crochet them a scarf for free also. On principle, HELL NO!! Just for automatically thinking that my time, effort, and resources are free for everyone!
Right where she said "Wait until so and so hears you tried to rip me off" is when I would reply, "Oh, she knows, I have forwarded this whole conversation to her. She just apologized for giving you my contact info."
I just wish people understood how much effort it takes to just be an artist ... An not everyone that practices art has to have a degree in it ...Leonardo Da Vinci received no formal education beyond basic reading, writing and math, but was able to make a name for himself 👑....Talent is God given be humble🙏✨
And not to mention the cost of art supplies. People don't understand that the artist doesn't get it for free. I do glass engraving and often give it as birthday gifts but then later on someone will call and ask....."Can you make me this/that for my friend. Just do flowers or whatever. It won't take long" I faint.
@@nos480 💯🙌 ...true🙇 ..I get art supplies most of the time for my birthday (which I really appreciate) , and "People" be like , "its just paint etc ..." but it be costing more than their phone 😂
Well its not really a talent. Its a skill that people take years to perfect. Amazing writers and artists weren't blessed to do their masterpieces they invested hours of work to learn how to do those said masterpieces. But yeah... people go to college and pay THOUSANDS to then have some jerk on the internet to tell their art is not worth it because THEY don't wan to pay, like they actually matter in the grand scheme of things XD. A lot of artists already give low prices and its pretty annoying when people say "its to highhhh" no karen. Its not high. If you can't pay don't ask for it.
@@felinedreamer1685 yup .. I feel like the ARTs are half of talent and half skill thou honestly ...cause we're BORN with that PASSION to purse it ..as they say , "Hard work beats talent , when talent doesn't work hard !"
@@seftonpillay938 well anyone can draw. They just need to invest on it and love doing it. It will be a lot of self hatred and comparison with other artists but because we love doing it we will still continue until we can reach the skill we want. By saying it was talent implies that they were born good... Which no one is.
They just don't understand the amount of time that's put into the piece. People screaming for $15/hr minimum wage but freak if an artist asks for a fraction of that!
I'll happily pay for art that I like. I honestly don't understand how these choosing beggars live with themselves; They're so selfish and entitled. Artists put a lot of work into what they do and need money like every other human being. lol
Wow, I FUCKING LOVE the first tattoo shop’s response. I mean be real. Not to stigmatize or speak I’ll of tattoo artist (my Dad is actually a reformed felon,) but I would assume that there are a lot of people who work in tattoo shops who have had run ins with the law. I mean when I was growing up (46 years old now) tattoos were not mainstream. It was more a thing that was criminals, bikers, and “bad” boys and girls. It only really came into a recognized art form after it was on reality TV, plus, people in prison have been doing “jailhouse” tattoos forever, and it gave people a safe way to make money in a field that was actually accepting of them once they were done with their time.
In my opinion it depends on what he did and the other persons morals. For example, if a person lost their loved one to drug abuse, they probbaly wouldnt want an ex deal tattooing them. And no one wants the art of a rapist or child molestor on them. I am all for giving second chances, but it something small to one person may be a big deal to another.
Brandy Nicholson 1st of all....say hello to your Dad for me!! 2nd, I agree 1000% with you. As long as a person is living as a law abiding citizen, regardless of past, so long as they served time if applicable and/or changed their ways, there is absolutely no reason not to do business with them, work with them, or help them so long as they are helping themselves as well, not moochin' off of others, then there is nothing wrong with any of the above scenarios. IN FACT< by doing business with them a person is actively helping to keep them reformed and away from falling into criminal behaviors!!!!!!!!! Some people can be so hateful and/or stupid!!!!!!
I'd rather pay more and get quality work on a tattoo than go the cheap route. I've had people ask why I go to the shop I do because they're a bit more expensive than other places. But I know I'm going to get good work. I got my first tattoo in 1999 and it still looks like it's no more than a year old
Okay last one, These people about the art pieces. Have they ever bought art supplies for their kids? I have 4 kids, all went to fine arts schools for part of their education, the oldest actually from 3rd-graduation. The money that I have spent on supplies not related to school would have bought the Queen’s Dad’s boat! My youngest (12 years old) has been getting requests for her to create drawings just based on what she has been posting on IG. She asked me last night about starting to sell art. I’m trying to figure out how to help her go about it. If one of these losers....um I mean beggars showed up in her DM’s being pissy, the fight will be on! The one asking $45 wouldn’t make shit off of the design that was requested once you consider materials. Ugh makes me so mad!
That's the problem too. Even if people consider the price of materials and offer to pay you in that value, they need to remember that they're also paying for the artist's time and expertise, in the same way you don't just pay a plumber just enough to cover the materials needed to repair a leak.
I'm a professional artist - do large scale pieces and installations for hotels, restaurants and private residences - and despite getting very well paid when I get work I still have to do proposals for free. It sucks, I spend weeks of every year doing proposals and often they are requested by designers so they can make their presentations look better to their client and they take credit for all the work their suppliers send them. I've learned who to weed out, ask them for budgets up front and always try to find out the time frame of the project to know if it's 3-5 years out I know my time is being wasted. Sadly there is no any way to avoid being walked all over as an artist. We are always bidding against others for good work and this is how they get us to do work for free.
Yes, my oldest who's 19 now is a good artist. People ask her to make piece for them and her asking even $20 is too much. Art is not her hobby.... I have seen her how much time she spends finessing her work. So yeah...f'off cheap ass humans!
People with no talent tend to think those that do just create art effortlessly. They don't understand that it's still *work*, even if it's your hobby or passion.
That last one had me thinking "with a quack quack here, and a quack quack there, here a quack, there a quack, everywhere a quack quack!" So much swearing 😂😂
I would've simply said NO to a couple of these and let them boil, don't ever waste your time on arguing with stupid people - they have way more experience in being stupid and beat you.
Forget ignoring or replying, just friggin BLOCK them! The worst is when they leave a bad review and obviously leave out their part of the story where they were entitled a-holes.
I've had to deal with this a bit as a freelance writer. At the time, my rate was $0.07 per word. The person wanted an article for $0.01 per word. After about three emails back and forth, I raised my prices to $0.25 per word. I am too successful and busy to mess around with cheap clients. Because by then, you already know they are going to be one of those nit-picking individuals who'll want you to revise a piece ten to twenty times. Never short-change yourself as a professional.
@@InteriorDesignStudent Yes! I hate this rate. I've been doing the penny a word thing for two years straight, six days a week, 6,000 words a day. It's tiring.
@@Swnsasy Actually, at $0.07 per word 5,000 words would be $350.00. Still, that's less than what I've been paid in the past for eBooks ranging 3,000 to 4,000 words. But yeah, some people will try to squeeze everything they can out of you. Sometimes it's not worth the stress and hassle when dealing with certain clients. It's better to cut your losses and move on. :)
@@WriterSanctuary Haha crap! My zero didn't go.. I'm sorry and thank you for correcting it.. Omgosh so embarrassing.. Having a PhD doesn't mean smart 🤣🤣 The rest still stands! That's cheap and I'd pay for that in a flash... Do you still do the work??
I’m a freelance writer, and I’ve run into this SO MANY TIMES! What makes me so angry is that the people most susceptible to this are new artists who are trying desperately to gain a foothold. I could go on about this topic for days. It really burns me up.
Is this the funny contour video woman? The way her voice goes sometimes reminds me of her but the hair throws me off😅 just asking to see if I got them confused
That last one is a perfect example of why as a customer if the business owner does something for you for a discounted price or for free to NOT EVER disclose that information to another potential customer. I have two stylists that do my hair for free(I've been going to them forever)so when people ask me how did a style cost I tell them to contact the individual.
@@penelope5534 , whenever I see a photo of Mylie Cyrus I always think she's going to regret that every photo of her looks so ridiculous with her tongue hanging out. You'd think she'd grow out of it... 😝
I hear this all the time, my fiancé studied at Berklee music school and had toured Europe & the USA with two groups. Now that he is older, he writes and produces music, people always ask him for free music & time. He had stopped doing music after putting a studio in our first level because no one wanted to pay or show up on time. He doesn’t even charge a lot of money because he understands struggling artists. The studio just sits empty now for the most part.
Oh nooo! That's terrible. I hope everything goes well for him. Don't give up, there's people out there, normal sane people, who appreciates what he does and will gladly pay for them!
It's business, and most of the conversation does end like this but more often then not people who value your work and can afford it will pay the asking price, but for every 3 paying clients there's usually one that wants a freebie or discounted price
As a tattoo artist, I was sure I’d see a loooot of those in here! It sucks balls to be treated like this, glad these people got the answer they deserved! 🙏❤️
ceaweedsticks well, I can summarize it in a few words (when it really got real ). I was asked to draw two fully clothed nuns in a crabbing position. I felt that was the time to go in my own direction. It also wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever been asked to draw.
I can't believe you had to justify your own choice of clothing 🤦🏼♀️... I'm so glad react calmly to these asinine trolls some folks just carry their jealousy around all day.
People not appreciating artists has to do with the fact that most have never picked a pencil/brush/needle etc in their sorry lazy lives. And if you dig a bit deeper into these stories i bet that most "beggars" dont work or/and never had training on anything.
One time someone asked me to read their book and give suggestions. It was already self-published, so it wasn't a beta read. The grammar was unlike any you've ever seen. Periods? Who's heard of 'em? "LOL" was peppered throughout all of the dialogue. I made myself read the whole thing and sent the guy instructions on basic grammar and included many examples of his text and how they should be written correctly. He then posted in the Facebook group where he found me and said he was leaving the community because people obviously just care about grammar and not storytelling. I now ignore every message asking me for grammar help.
My mother pays me for commissions. It feels weird, but she taught me never give away your hard work for free unless it’s as a gift. It was good advice!
Yup! I was having some nasty flash backs with people trying to talk me down to nothing, from really cheap. the horror, the horror, the horror...When I etch glass, a 12"x 12" DESIGN, of something simple, ie, the Anarchy "A", is $25. I learned that from one of my art professors(Thanks, Monty), when a friend/classmate wanted to know if I charged for the design. Professor told her: "Yup, $25 hour." She decided she couldn't afford me. Oh, well.
I love how the beggar apparently likes the art enough to want it in their home, their room, over their bed, etc. But when they find out they can’t get it for free, they start insulting the artist as “untalented” or the art is “crappy” or they can “find better and cheaper on Etsy”. As if art is created by simply snapping your fingers.
I used to write short stories. My sister asked me to write her a story with her as the main character and have her go on an adventure with Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean (she is a HUGE fan). When I was done, i posted it to a fanfiction site and gave my sister all the credit cuz she told me WHAT kind of adventure she wanted to go on. Well a few weeks after posting it, I had an old classmate of mine come to me and asked for me to write her a story about her winning the Hunger Games. Told her i had never seen it so it would be hard for me to do such a thing. I said.i could do Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, Narnia or a few different Anime because inwas familiar with those works. She went total choosing beggar on me and told me to make her the star of an original story and then she had the nerve to ask me to give her all the credit to the story and not even put my name on it... I offered to give her a shout out and say that I wrote it solely for her... But she said that I had to write it because I wrote a piece for my sister... Long story short... She didn't get her story. I still do it occasionally... Not very often tho because life is busy nowadays
Boy if that isn’t the truth! It’s the coolest and best art they’ve ever seen until it’s time to discuss the price 😂😂😂 I completely agree with u Charlotte 110%!!! Hope you have a very Blessed Day 💜✌🏻
Thank you for pointing out that people can change. My boyfriend has some time and it turned him around. I knew him before and after. He has work hard to change his ways and he is a new better person today
That sucks, unfriend her immediately. She ain't no friend that you wanna hang out with. I have people for years (since 1st grade elementary till 8th grade middle school) asking me for free: drawing, piece of arts I sew and my art supplies that I brought for art class. My parents are so mad when they found out and I never do things for free anymore unless it's someone I know personally and in good terms with. Don't cheapen yourself, if your friend can't afford it just told her to pay in increment or something, don't lower the price. It'll become a habit, trust me 🙄🙄
@@redreindeer right?? She had painted me something out of nowhere and gave it to me as a gift and then a few weeks later asked me to draw her this portrait for her. so she assumed that since she gave me the painting that I didn't ask for for free that I should have given her the portrait that she did ask for for free.
@@XXallycat101XX that really sucks, just give her a stick man or something and don't invest your time on that thing. It'll shut her right up (hopefully)
For that last one I would be furious if one of my friends talked to my family like that. OMG I hope the artist told their cousin about that, bc that is not a friend to have.
HEY CHARLOTTE!!! I’m obviously trying to get your attention to tell you something... it is weird, but I am proud of you. I think everyone is. You had outgrown io girl... & btw I started watching BECAUSE of you... others probably did also... you kind of made them in the past year. Congratulations!!
I made a coworker’s birthday cake for $45. This was a two layer, 10 inch, custom milk dud cake from scratch with chocolate buttercream and homemade caramel sauce. Man asked if he could get $5 back. I’m like the supplies alone for that were $25. Not counting the bigger cake pans I bought, the piping bag, cake box and gel frosting for lettering. Uh no. I told you I just moved and just bake for fun but you’re asking me to take time out to bake and design a cake on a week I already work 70 hours. You want me to carve 4 hours out of my day. As a writer, VA, Tutor, and warehouse worker my discounted time by the hour is $20. You’re getting off lightly cuz bakers start basic 6 inch cakes here at $35. I know cuz I work for the bakery you can also call to order from and their 10 in starts at $55. Man called out of work for week too so I also had to transport the cake twice and store it in my freezer. He shows up a full 7 days later asking if I still have it and is it still gonna taste the same after being frozen that long. I’m like it’s gonna be dryer cuz cakes actually oxidized and dehydrate in the fridge. Entitled millennials I tell you.
Hey Charlotte, I hope you're okay. I'm not a makeup fan but I love your lip colour, it suits you so well! Hair is looking gorgeous as always haha would you ever grow it back out again?
I'm reminded of a guy in Ohio who had his fridge out on his front lawn, like "Free to a good home" for like three weeks, but the day he put a sign which read $50, he woke up the next morning and it was gone. Or that program by Mozilla, that when it was free, nobody wanted it, yet making it $1 made it the most pirated program ever (At the time).
Hey!! i was just catching up on the few videos i missed while i was in the hospital and now you've given me a new one!! Thanks!! i need the laughs lol.
Honestly mad respect to all you artists out there, I can't imagine having to deal with stuff like this on a regular basis, I think I'd probably lose my sanity No matter what people say about you, just remember that it's YOUR art and you don't have to bend over backwards for anyone. Art takes time and it costs money to get materials for it, and if people can't appreciate that and just pay for the commission then they don't deserve your work or your time in the first place You guys are genuinely awesome and I admire what you guys do, and I know that a lot of people feel the same, never let a few jerks ruin your passion for you
I believe duck lips, or whatever that version of puckering of lips was, is done because they think it makes them look sexy. Little do they understand that it’s pretty much meme-able content and a joke to the rest of us.
My dad is an artist. Last july he had a really bad stroke and couldn't work so he did and sold art, i even bought a bunch of his art at the price he'd charge a regular customer to help out
I am an artist and belong to a local artist cooperative. It is amazing how often people will contact us for free art to resell at their fundraisers. I do this annually for a local Humane Society I support. I am saying “no” to all others as it is just too much to give away for free.
Had a lady ask me to do a pet portrait back in January for June/July but she never paid a deposit. Totally forgot about her as I had many other things going on, but then she sent me a message in early May asking when I would be starting as she is "very interested in a drawing." Told her she never paid a deposit and that I was completely booked for the remainder of the year. I asked if she would like my payment info again to send a deposit and I would try and fit her in when I had some free time, but I haven't heard back. I am going to assume she was attempting to get me to do it and send it off without payment, but I don't know. For those of you who do art, regardless of medium, NEVER mail, email, or deliver any of your completed pictures until you receive the full amount!
My art professor told us a client clear across the country wanted her to mail him an art piece on the wall behind her (we were on Zoom). A couple of people advised her to get the payment in full up front. The art was still on her wall on the last day of class months later.

I'm an artist and for a while was doing tattoos. I have a ton of stories. I work on comics now and I get a lot of "for exposure" offers now. Pretty much get one a month at the moment but when I was more active online I was getting a few week lol.
I think the best thing I ever saw was someone on twitter commenting about 'Exposure'. It was something to the extent (paraphrasing) that 'anyone asking for exposure has not found a way to market their idea yet and don't want you to figure that out. As the artist, they don't give you exposure, you give THEM exposure." And if THAT doesn't work, when someone tells you 'its for exposure' tell them you are calling the police for attempted harm on yourself, cause people can DIE from exposure!
Its amazing how obsessed people have become with themselves. I could not imagine having a any artist wanting to do a portrait unless it was a caricature. Oh, i do have one but its rolled up somewhere in a box.
OMG this type of vid is my fave! And this is a very high standard since I LOVE Charlotte's vids so much I have watched pretty much nothing else since a break-up last week. Plus, I was ALREADY watching mostly her stuff in the couple of weeks or so since I discovered this wonderful lady! This has helped me sooo much
As an artist, I know the pain of cheap ungrateful customers. But, I found it harder to actually draw what they saw in their mind... which would lead to several timewasting changes.
All of these: CB: I want your high quality product for the same price as a POS I found. or CB: I want you to give me your time, effort, skills, and materials for FREE.
Used to work in a grocery store bakery where people could order custom cakes. The number of people that came in requesting something they found on Pinterest (it's a grocery store, they don't use fondant or modeling chocolate, nor did we do tiered cakes), or wanting to use professional photos they didn't have a release form for, or a copyrighted image...just mind-blowing. And yes, they would complain about the price. Point of fact: were they to go to a specialty bakery for some of these Pinterest creations, they would be forking over $500 MINIMUM, on average.
My partner is a writer/editor/translator and many of our friends are artists of various genres and they all encounter this. Thanks for making this vid!
Thank you ☺️
My aunt is an amazing quilter.
I can't even imagine asking for a discount on art let alone wanting it for free. The pure entitlement of these people.😬
I can't even ask my own family for stuff. Just how....
As an artist I'm actually asked for donations and free or discounted stuff all the time, mainly people who think they could do a better job also claim to love your stuff

One word: unhinged
That last one, though!! Sheesh! The artist was SO polite the whole time and even offered to lower the price after it was clear what kind of entitled person they were dealing with ... Kudos to her. As for the entitled person with the potty mouth? I feel bad for her kids. Can't be easy having such a mom.
I’m also a convicted felon in my early 20’s i did what I was supposed to do and now I’m a wife and a mother everyone has done stupid stuff and we learn from it so after seeing your take on felons I am officially subscribed to your channel great content!
Same!!
Hell, I bet the woman freaking about it still buys Martha Stewart brand stuff and doesn't think twice about it.
@indigowulf sorry im like living under a rock but who is martha stewart and what did she do??
I crochet and draw and paint and people bug me all the time!! Ugh i can sympathize. Yarn and art supplies let alone time are not cheap.

Brandy Nicholson
1st of all....say hello to your Dad for me!!
I got my first tattoo in 1999 and it still looks like it's no more than a year old
Yesssss!!!
Many artists honed their skills in prison. They paid their dues and are making an honest, legal living. God bless every one of them!
Okay last one,
These people about the art pieces.
You’re a good mom though.
You're a cool mum. Seriously, these choosing beggars need to get a reality check and realise nothing good is free.
The term "beggars can't choosers" exists for a reason. Also, the customer isn't always right... especially if they're entitled

"Beggars can't be choosers"

A customer is always right if he/she PAYS. With gift you are not a customer, so you can't be right even once.
People with no talent tend to think those that do just create art effortlessly. They don't understand that it's still *work*, even if it's your hobby or passion.

I’m never first. Dammit! But I’m the Queen’s most loyal subject! All I want is her Daddy to get his boat!
Boy if that isn’t the truth! It’s the coolest and best art they’ve ever seen until it’s time to discuss the price 😂😂😂 I completely agree with u Charlotte 110%!!! Hope you have a very Blessed Day 💜✌🏻
I love the way you look when you’re giving shade 🤣
Charlotte is 200,000,000,000,000 % ADORABLE ..I LOVE it when she says " SUBCSRIBE !!!"
Thank you for pointing out that people can change. My boyfriend has some time and it turned him around. I knew him before and after. He has work hard to change his ways and he is a new better person today
10:03 🤣 OMG that was priceless 🤣
Omg the entitlement 😭
“F**k me yourself” 😂🤣😂
Omg I am DYING OVER HERE!!!
My friend was upset that I didn't give her a discount for drawing a photo realistic picture of her mom that she asked for.
My favorite line: "I have PTSD from reading this!" Hysterical Gotta remember that one
People need to realize nothing in the world is free, except smiles, hugs and being nice.
The queen of funny reactions!! Oh and of beautiful singing of course!
Lol “I have ptsd from these kinds of conversations” omg that made my entire morning 🤣🤣🤣
Hey!! i was just catching up on the few videos i missed while i was in the hospital and now you've given me a new one!! Thanks!! i need the laughs lol.
Bless you! YES! People CAN change for the better!
You're videos make me feel so much better! Love❤

Honestly mad respect to all you artists out there, I can't imagine having to deal with stuff like this on a regular basis, I think I'd probably lose my sanity
No matter what people say about you, just remember that it's YOUR art and you don't have to bend over backwards for anyone. Art takes time and it costs money to get materials for it, and if people can't appreciate that and just pay for the commission then they don't deserve your work or your time in the first place
You guys are genuinely awesome and I admire what you guys do, and I know that a lot of people feel the same, never let a few jerks ruin your passion for you
I feel this, I have a Masters in Fine Art and people STILL expect freebies.
Some of these response burns are absolutely soul destroying! 🤣🤣🤣 Absolutely hilarious
1.6k likes , 3 dislikes. That's the ratio your content deserves!!! Love each and every video of yours ma'am.... Best part of each of them- your energy... All the best for every endeavour...
Your hair is fabulous!😍 great video as always!
I'm an artist and for a while was doing tattoos. I have a ton of stories. I work on comics now and I get a lot of "for exposure" offers now. Pretty much get one a month at the moment but when I was more active online I was getting a few week lol.
Charlotte- THAT onesie is the BEST onesie. Never stop. NEVER.
Hahahahahaha these are freaking hilarious. I love choosing beggars and some of these replies are savage 😂 😂
I love every time I open the app I see Charlotte has posted a new video 🙌🏻 girl is grinding 😳❤️
UGH this is so true. I'm so glad I've found some people who appreciate some of my art. As different and "cutsie" as it is. Lol
Man I do NOT understand the sense of entitlement these people have, and the way they act when they don't get what they think is owed to them!
How you make me laugh. What a great end to a crappy day! Thank you, Charlotte.
Its amazing how obsessed people have become with themselves. I could not imagine having a any artist wanting to do a portrait unless it was a caricature. Oh, i do have one but its rolled up somewhere in a box.
That was hilarious Charlotte. Very well put together.
Why have 181 viewed this, but only 48 have shown appreciation with a simple like? For shame, people!
As I write this 3 people have actually Disliked!!!... They must be related to some of the choosing beggars here.
Not everyone who watches leaves a like. It's not mandatory, lol. I have to wonder who you think you are...
All of these:
CB: I want your high quality product for the same price as a POS I found.
or
CB: I want you to give me your time, effort, skills, and materials for FREE.
I'm a makeup artist and nail artist omg ive come across this too many times to count
"Everybody wants your art, but no one wants to pay for it."
UA-cam: would you like to join UA-cam Premium?
"NO"
That sketch of the woman sent to be sarcastic was actually still awesome.
Love you Charlotte 😘
👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 to the guy standing up for his employee!
6:54 If he added 50% to $10, final price should be $15.
Who's silly now, huh? *HUH?* 😆
My partner is a writer/editor/translator and many of our friends are artists of various genres and they all encounter this. Thanks for making this vid!
It must be hard to be in a profession that's artistic. People will always want something for nothing!
So true, that happened to me all the time! Lol ppl will say you should sell your work and then when they want one its to expensive.
