I keep my indexing rod llghtly lubed and always raise the ram when removing turret. 9k rounds loaded with many turret swapping and still on original plastic indexing piece. Removing turret and rod with ram lowered will damage that piece.
That square piece will last a long time the mistake people make is that the ram must be all the way up to make adjustments or else you will strip the square piece out. You should not lube that rod. Adjusting indexing is accomplished by using a 1/4 inch wrench.
Your indexing rod looks to have a metal square top that fits into the turret to make it turn. Is that a stock part? My brand new press has that part made with the same black plastic as the little bushing you're talking about. My problem is that plastic square on the rod doesn't want to stay in place.
What could be wrong with a turret I bought a extra for a different caliber and it won't function. Everything looks the same but it stops turning in the press . The original turret works fine . They look the same visually
lee tells you to lube the turret, but DO NOT lube or polish the spirals on the action rod. doing this predisposed the rod turn inside the square ratchet, and thus hasten the demise of that part.
