Soudal Insulation Expanding Foam Review - Any good?

- We have used lots of Soudal products in the past and there are some videos of them on this channel, generally speaking, the quality and ease of use it always good. This particular foam is best suited to jobs were an insulation element is important e.g loft extensions etc. So we give this foam a go and see how easy it is to use.
Thank you for reviewing this product! I'm a newbie to building (converting a bus into a campervan) so it's helpful to watch videos like this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
There are cleaner and safer ways than using this toxic stuff
I'm going to use this around a window I'm fitting to the garage since I don't want to screw the window into the brick since some of the bricks have drooped at the top (no lintel) and so I want to put the foam in first (hopefully sticks too) let it set and then fasten it with screws, wish me luck! Great video thanks for the demo.
Thanks for your reply.
There’s not much else i can do about this on going issue, i have with this creaky chipboard floor. Pumping in expanding foam solution, seems the only cure. Other than that… the only other thing i can do; and that’s replace the floor with 18mm plywood. This type of material is much stronger than chipboard; but much more expensive.
I’ve already replaced my hallway floor with it. The floor now, does not creak and crack anymore, like it use too.
Replacing the bed sitting room floor…. might not be possible anyway… considering that my bedsit, is full up with personal items. There’s not much room, to move all of my belongings.

Thankyou! I’m trying to soundproof a hollow door and partition wall. I’m hoping I can just drill holes and fill the big gaps with Soudal, rather than removing plasterboard etc... Do you know if it would be effective? Cheers
it may work, but a cavity will won't deaden sounds if you can, remove plasterboard and fill it with rockwool that's great stuff hope this helps.
@@DanielJohnHowTo Thankyou
Planning to do the same. How did you get on? Can they still hear you playing sitar? :P
@@eddyp483 Hi! They could even hear me play my electric guitar acoustically! And they still can! I never got around to it in the end - you are reminding me that I need to get to it!!!! Please let me know how you get on. Soudal can be messy I’ve heard, just keeps flowing out!
@@daraobrienmusic have you tried this yet? I want to do my partition wall but have wasted so much money trying other things! Can someone let me know if they have tried this please
Many thanks for this video, it is a great help. Please I am not lucky with these foams. How do you manage cleaning the nozzle and how long can a tin be partly used? Does the Soudal foam brands with their in built nozzles work better than the standard plastic types?
you wipe as you go, then get rid of the cloth the can, can be used many times just keep it clean
Up to 6 weeks
just a note your not meant to snap the whole lid off just the inner part lol! also its moister activated so spray some water onto the surface helps adhesion and curing.
Thanks for the tips!
If you're not meant to snap the lid off entirely, how would you stick it in the plastic tube at the end to keep it fresh? 🤔
@@wendybridges1538 only the inner part not the whole thing. Go watch the official video of sodal demo.
Hey mate, thanks for the vid. How is it holding up? Going to buy the water resistant version for shower tray
how are you planning on using for the shower tray?
@@DanielJohnHowTo cracks have shown up so I will be drilling holes in the shower tray and putting expanding foam under for support. Then seal it over once dry
You're meant to dampen the area with a spray of water to help it stick to the surface according to the official video.
good advice, this does work we have done it ourselves a lot.
Hi thanks for reviewing this product. May I ask, once it hardens does it break easily? Basically I'm into RC stuff, and most of us use things like shoogoo/dry wall tape or gorilla tape to strengthen plastic bodyshells, but I was thinking about spraying the inside with some foam like this and 'sculpting' it once it dries with some light sanding?
It doesn't break too easily and can take a good knock, you can cut/sand it as well. But by no means am i an expert at RC builds.
@@DanielJohnHowTo Thats exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks so much for the quick response as well...just got yourself a new subscriber 😊
Hahaha dont worry neither am I, but if this works, and sounds like it should, it may help others with more skills than me.
Thanks again. Am going to trawl through your 'back catalogue' and see what else I missed . 🙏👍😎
Great video. I've got a question. I've got shrunken joists in a party wall. Could i use this foam to fill the gap between the joists and brickwork?
Yes you can just don't use too much so it doesn't push anything out
There are gaps between wall and roof in outside wall and rain water comes into room. Will this foam join the roof and wall? Is this lust long and sun rays protective?
I read you need protective mask and eye protection before using this product ???
if it makes you feel safer using the product then sure.
If you watch the company video it states spray with water first as it activates the foam and gives better adhesiveness
that is true, and it works a lot better depending on surface/situation we have used it more without than with
thanks I think you clarified something wobbly in the instructions about opening it - there's nothing to cut or open, just press the trigger
Yes… i need to buy a few cans of this solution. My chipboard bed sitting room floor creaks and cracks.; and at times drives me crazy. Need to drill holes in the floor; and pump it in. That’s the only way. Fortunately there are no pipes or cables underneath.
Thanks for your comment, I would advise against using this foam for that purpose and seek further advice.
I’ve got a gap under my bedroom window and was thinking of trying something like this however the window sill is uPVC and there’s a lip on it so I can’t get directly at the gap. I can see the hose has a little bit of flex to it but would it stop the foam from coming out? Otherwise, is there another product that would do the job better?
It’s a 1cm gap between the length of the bottom of the window…. Cheers
you can use this or silicone, if you use the foam just use a little to start with
@@DanielJohnHowTo thanks 👍
Had to watch the video as the instructions on the can are pretty poor about the bit you screw into the pipe at 3:11
Is this product slightly adhesive as well? I want to insulate and Also stick a piece of upvc over the same spot will this grab the upvc in place????
Thanks for your help
Yes it does stick stuff in my experience.
You might want to fill the gap with foam/leave to set then use some silicone on the back of your uPVC item just because the foam expands and might push it away that's all.
@@DanielJohnHowTo thanks for the info very much appreciated.... I'll fill the gap... Then put a little onto the upvc and push it into place.... As its only a light piece of upvc about a metre in length and 20cm width.... Thanks again... Stay safe in these difficult times....
@@bobmarley6161 Should be fine, you can then use something like decorators caulk to tidy it up, obviously you can't paint onto of silicone either so try to keep it all behind - good luck.
@@DanielJohnHowTo thanks I'll try to do a neat job... Not as professional as yourself.... Thanks for your help...
Hi, is this product water resistant?
I would say it was.
How to used with mbi foil
can you plaster/easifill over this foam?
yes and we have done loads, no issues.
@@DanielJohnHowTo So, I can use this to fill the gaps between upvc windows and brickwork with this, then plaster/fill over as to avoid using trim?
@@theandroids Yes it's exactly what we did, you just need to trim the foam back a bit and don't put too much filler in at once etc
@@DanielJohnHowTo Thanks a bunch.
think you might need a box of it to fill those gaps
There was a time many years ago when Britain had serious professional tradesman LOL!
This channel is just us doing DIY on our own property and making videos about products etc, not professional tradesmen what gave you that impression ? The channel name isn't a building firm either.
Nice one
Thanks 🔥
Anyone else where this hasnt worked at all .just fell of the wall
Bad for you ,bad for environment
Most things like that are.
Let’s all pressure them to make a safe one it can’t be that hard can it .I mean there are a lot of clever people out there , we just buy it and I know people who use this every day with out a second thought 16 year old window fitters just starting out and that ain’t right .
Absolute garbage, wouldn't deploy for me, not one drop, very 'genius' Soudall, last time I buy any of your products....
It is filling but not expanding, looks like a scam
have you tried the product yourself?
There is no way that provided any insulation through that application. Useless
maybe the application for thermal efficiency wasn't ideal but the product is really good.
Oh yea it’s great not only is it toxic for humans but also crap for the environment . It’s funny how people love it 1 minute then when it’s proven bad , oh we should have banned that years ago.
