That first model coupe just screams iconic Mustang and the intended goal of a small, sporty, affordable and practical American car. Chef's kiss. I've grown to appreciate the fastback versions (Still kinda odd looking unless you are into Mustangs and just looking for rarity/value) and the later more muscle-esque, boaty ones but the original little 64 1/2 through 66 coupe knocked it out of the park.

Ford Mustangs are beautifully designed, that when you build them right and take care of them, they’ll run for 100 years or longer, just like a family.

It all started 1964 therefore I like the 1. Mustang generation most. Great documentary. Thanks.

When I think of the Ford Mustang I see the 1967 green fastback of Steve McQueen and that car chase with the Dodge charger no car can be more iconic. So this marathon epic of facts and figures which was presented with tremendous enthusiasm and terrific knowledge made for fascinating viewing but the one-note delivery became a challenge to sit through and the long middle sections were somewhat dull mostly because the Mustangs of the era were dull cars compared to the glory years. Here in the UK you only see a Ford mustang on very rare occasions but for me, an ultra-romantic car fan the 1967 McQueen mustang will always be among the greatest of all cars a true great. This video had some fabulous old ads and publicity stills so I will come back to this for a more serious study and break the video down into separate generations. This Kevin Auto channel production may have rough edges but I found the Knowledge on offer very impressive.

The 2020 GT500 is a traditional cross plane crank V8. It's the GT350 that has the flat plane crank. Both are 5.2L

The 71-73 is neither fat or lazy. It weight less than the new mustangs today. Also fit 305 tires in the rear without modifications which is nice 👍🏽

"Fat and Lazy" ? Bite your tongue! My 1973 Mach 1 with it's 351 Cleveland waxed a 1985 Vette at Bandimere drag strip in 1985.

Minor correction: The '71 did grow slightly and considerably heavier, but it was hardly "fat and lazy." The growth was due to provisions made to handle larger, more powerful engines. This was because it was designed amidst the muscle car wars and would comfortably accomodate any engine Ford could throw in it (unlike previous Mustangs). So it was designed to be faster and better than any version before it, had the oil embargo not reared its ugly head and killed off performance cars in America. It was a victim of unfortunate timing, but was architecturally the most superior Mustang design to that point.

I agree with your love for the early ones but as the owner of a 1966 Fastback, I guess that I'm a little biased. I no longer have it since in late May of 1968, I traded it for a 1968 Oldsmobile which had more power, more weight and more room but less sex appeal.
Once the Mustang increased in size and the style changed, I lost interest in them.
Nice video by the way and thank you for the information.

Ok…? Almost everything you just stated is a negative. Why bother comment?? You traded your car in for a higher HP, positive, but higher weight. Then less sex appeal. If you think the mustang is “big” in size in this day and age I dont even want to know what your driving now..

To be fair to all generations to the Mustang you must point out some of the things those cars did right
1st Generation: everything was nice about it
2nd Generation (Mustang II): Performance was miserable, but I like the styling (and, I know this would've totally ruined the Mustang's purpose, though I wonder what it would've looked like as a wagon)
3rd Generation (Fox body): Again styling, though performance was also good enough
4th Generation: Again, good performance, though styling to me was interesting (to say the least)
5th Generation: Finally, back to its roots. A very amazing car through and through
6th Generation: Amazing car, though it seems the car is starting to drift from its retro styling. I would also like to criticize Ford for trying to make a unique, bold car into a world car by pitching it's name to an electric crossover (no problems with the Mach-E, but it really seems sellout-ish to me)

Totally agree. I'm interested to see what the 7th Gen will bring to the table and what will be missing (v8 performance). I miss the not too distant days of the simple v8.

honestly in my opinion (and I really don’t mean anything bad or mean - just criticism) the Mach-E is a bit of a disgrace to the Mustang name! Just look back into when it came out. Does it show any semblance at all other than the basic headlights? Not really! I think it might have done better if they changed the name, because it just makes me cringe sometimes :(

Was the '71 Boss 351 not one of the fastest, if not the fastest production mustangs made up to that point? Hardly fat and lazy if you ask me.
