Got to give Jay credit, with all the fame and fortune he still does his show like a true motorhead and gives his elders the respect they deserve which makes him a first class act.
And what I love about Jay Leno is he shares his automotive knowledge to the world. He's not selfish with his collections. He's one of the few true motorheads educating the masses about the history of these fine machines. And hats off to your Sir for that.
For sure, jay seems very humble, if you didn't know of his tv career you would never have guessed a man such as this was so wealthy, even his clothing is down to earth and simple.
He never was focused on money. He was always focused on being funny and let the chips fall where they may. He knows his weaknesses compared to his past contracts. That'll keep anyone humble , if they aren't insane.
@@imranvp He's not an idiot. Most of those cars were paid for by the general public that went to his shows and watched the Tonight Show. Why not show everyone what cool stuff it bought? He's basically recognizing his good fortune and how it got paid for.
Jay is a real car guy, very passionate and knowledgeable about everything he has in his collection and on his channel. I don’t think he was any less funny than the rest of the late night hacks, none of those shows are honestly the height of comedy
It's a shame corporate America doesn't appreciate people like him. They can't relate and are afraid of his type and usually force them to comform or find a way to push them out of the company. Instead of being creative they "trim" budgets and lay workers off to look good to Wall Street.
RIP Mr. Iacocca. A legend to anyone that loves American cars especially Ford and Chrysler products. I just saw the news and it’s unbelievable that he is gone.
To say I’d be star struck by the legend that is Lee, I would be paralyzed to speak to such greatness. Just standing next to him would be all id need. To be in the presence of such greatness I’d need a day to recover. Man what an amazing life he lived. Amazing man
It seems that the younger people aren't into this car culture and history. As long as it's good on mileage, has Bluetooth, and a great stereo with lights, they love it! All this history of classic cars and the culture that follows with it, is fading away. Those lucky enough to own classic cars and collectibles, have maybe 20-30 years left til this disposable society has no use or value for them. It's sad but true. I've heard it from collectors for years. I'm on my 2nd mustang GT, and love it. Mostly people 30+ years old care to comment or ask me about it. How do true automotive enthusiasts keep this rich history and car culture going in a world with smart phone apps and tweets? God bless you Jay. What you have, you share with the world with each show. Life in overdrive, and sometimes cruise control.
Im really glad to see how the american muscle cars are growing again, this new mustang, the 6th gen camaro and the hellcat are just the top of an iceberg that is going to shake the world wide automotive industry, you may not like the mustang as a brand, or maybe you cannot think as the mustang as something else than the rival car (this come from a diehard camaro owner) but the car is really a nice piece of art, Im not gonna buy one, but Im 100% sure this car will bring a smile to it future owners well done Ford... well done..
***** I'd have to disagree. I have an '01 Bullitt GT and loved it. Great car. The newer ones, though, are just too big and bloated compared to any of the earlier models and they seem to keep getting bigger.. To each his own.
your comment is very accurate !! I always liked more ferraris, porsches (have a collectible one in my garage) , japanese cars, etc etc .. But with a smile in my face , have to admit with surprise that new camaros, mustangs, the hellcat !! (ohh the hellcat) are very very appealing cars to me right now !!!!! As a car fan and engineer have to admit that new american cars are awesome !!! keep the good job !!!!!
Love Jay's channel, his love for the classics and his roots... despite the fact he owns cars that are worth millions and millions more than your average Mustang. RIP Mr. Iacocca.
Mr. Iaccoca brought Carroll Shelby to Ford, saved Chrysler from bankruptcy, & was a Philanthropist. From a real Car Enthusiast, thank you, so very much. RIP 💕🙏💕
The original Pony car and still the best bang for the buck, what every other manufacturer wishes they had invented. Great interviews and great heritage piece on the past and the future of the Mustang.
If the new one goes as good as it looks I'll order one. Brilliant job on the styling. If they've put half that effort into the chassis (sounds like they have) it'll be a real high mark.
Well put, people can have their brand loyalties but without the Mustang their is no Camaro, Firebird, Challenger, Cuda, AMX or even the Datusn Z, etc. At least give Ford the props they deserve for being an industry game changer that made it great for all American Auto lovers to route for their brand. What a legacy, awesome vid!
Jay Thank you so much for bringing such an American Icon on your show. RIP Mr Iacocca your incredible contributions to the automotive world will always live on.
RIP Lee. Saved Chrysler and kept Lamborghini on the trajectory. Imagine no Mustangs or the idea of possibly no Chrysler in the horsepower race. Without Lee it would be pretty damn boring!
I always had an appreciation for Mr. Iococca. He was not only a brilliant engineer, but the former president of Ford, the CEO of Chrysler and their spokesman... and he wore well tailored suits back in the day. Classy guy.
As much as I'm neither a mustang or Ford fan (Bowtie lifer here), you just have to appreciate and respect what this car and Iacocca did to revolutionize the American automotive industry. Thanks for dreaming this car up so I could eventually end up with a Camaro.
I agree, Mustang, Thunderbird, and Mercury Cougar, the best car i have seen in all the times in spite cars like music, are good, or not good but is difficult to find the best.
It's people like you that make the availability of a BRAND NEW (old) Mustang body, in steel, available today. There is a company that bought the rights and some of the equipment from Ford to reproduce some of the old 'Stangs. With sufficient cash you can have a brand new '68 bodied 'Stang with MODERN running gear. Not fiberglass, and not "close", but an IDENTICAL body, with upgraded steel and anti-rust zinc coatings for longevity. So you are one of MANY whose allegiance to the old style assures it will always be around. Ad I can think of no more deserving a car.
Mr. Iacocca is a legend for the worldwide auto industry. Innovator for new design and how to leverage production techniques. He saved Chrysler and was a dynamic car guy. RIP.
+Jimmy870 Deep impact blue... I have since added White GT500 race stripes, roush Rear spoiler (black) , Roush shift knob (white) Roush winglets Roush side window scoops and the Roush Hood scoop. also to protect the front and hood i did a xpel clear bra wrap on the front end. Next is Borla ATAK cat-back and Roush supercharger
+Joseph Rolon awesome, bro. I have a tiny 14' 3.7 with a few bolt ons. I have heard mixed reviews on the atak line recently. why not straight pipe? Also, are you running stock tune?
Bob was a neighbor of ours, a gentleman and well loved in the car club community. Lee, of course, is no longer with us either. Rest In Peace to both of these men!
I looked up to Mr. Iacocca so much in high school and especially when I started business school at university. A true American icon. Nowadays everyone throw’s around terms like icon and goat, but this man really 𝘪𝘴 these things.
People who dislike this design probably don't know how to appreciate elegant, thoughtful, subtle, but significant design. Take for example the new typography and needles for the instrumental cluster. Just gorgeous. And that GT typography on the back is just perfect.
He actually did write an autobiography in the late 1980’s. Iacocca-An Autobiography, written with William Novak. I read it then as a kid, and was fascinated. The man was a true visionary, and one of the most important men of his generation (or any other, for that matter!).
I know there are lots of people out there who don't like this new Mustang, but I think Ford did a wonderful job of making a brand-new design while still keeping enough original styling cues to make it look like a Mustang. You don't have to wonder, "what kind of car is *that*?" You know immediately that it's a Mustang.
i agree completely. honestly people are scared of change, but they are demanding it at the same time. they say its been retro for to many years and that ford needs to change it up. well ford changed it and did great and now they are like, why did you get rid of retro it looks to European. but honestly its lighter, wider, lower, more powerful, and all new suspension can you just imagine for one second!!! How much of a problem this new mustang is going to give the camaro this is a world class car and for that it needs to look world class not retro i cant wait to drive it
oh also i forgot better fuel economy in the 5.0 as well... the camaro is going to bankrupt gm no one is going to buy it when this car will out run its zl1 lol 5.0 out run the zl1 i cant wait its going to happen mark my words lol
I'm kinda sad to hear that they switched to independent rear suspension even though it allows for way better handling performance wise. Nothing will ever beat a Ford 9 inch rear end, even if its a top of the line independent rear end lol. This new era of mustang will dominate and continue to flourish like it has been for the last 50 years.
I agree with you about the Ford 9" -- but (unless I'm mistaken) the Mustang has used the Ford 8.8" since the early 2000s? I think? And that's not a bad one, but it's not the 9". But yeah, for a live rear-axle, nothing can beat the Ford 9". (And I'm not forgetting about the Dana axles, which are tough as nails, it's just that they're used in off-road vehicles usually, not in cars.)
No your right, Ford used the 8.8 in rear end but a lot of people would swap out for the 9 in. I've got a dana 60 rear axle in my '74 f250 and a 44 up front, nothing beats that besides another 60 up front which is what I'm looking for lol.
Wow, Lee Iacocca - what a "get"! The man who saved Chrysler, the first time around. My Dad went out and bought a 64-1/2 when it first came out. I think we first saw them at the World's Fair. His was a stripper - six cylinder, three-speed, 13" tires. It was a ragtop, though. 5:31 "What made you such a car guy?" Great question, Lee. He's still got it! I had a '65 convertible in high school. Paid $100 for it. A mountain of rust, but fun!
The good thing is that there are still a pretty good amount of prototypes left. I know for a fact there are at least two Chrysler Turbines left. Jay has one and there is another one in the Henry Ford Museum.
Voivrenetwork its disheartening. I never knew they destroyed prototype cars until I seen a video a couple of years ago of Dodge Viper being crushed. It broke my heart.
chris r ya. True. But the prototypes are just an idea really. I don’t know how to elaborate but the prototypes aren’t built for safety really. The idea was if they ended up crashing the lawsuits would have been unforeseeable and then you have the problem with registration, who’s gonna insure this thing and you can’t title it and that means you can’t sell it. Other than that? Your good to go lol
styldsteel1 yeah after learning more about the process I completely understand why they do it, but Damn it's hard watching those beautiful cars get crushed.
Jay, when the Mustang first came out in 1964 1/2 my mom and dad went to the Ford dealer and looked at the car with us kids. Short test drive and dad ordered a hard top with automatic and a 260 v8. Color was Red with a White top. Dad used to turn on the garage light and look at the car, "that is going to become a classic some day".
It's kind of crazy that despite how much the mustang has changed just by small touches you can still tell they're both mustangs. The horse obviously but more than just that.
Just got the engine of my number 63 running again. 635000 miles then 25 years in the garage. Original owner, well I inherited it from my dad. Car was totalled 3 times once a garage burned down on top of it. It was worked on originally by my father and Cole Palen who formed the Rheinbeck aerodrome. With some luck it will be back on the road this summer.
Great to see these men interact. Great questions by Jay and Mr Iacocca. You can tell Jay was nervous and giddy to be standing right next to his childhood hero. excellent, genuine stuff. Jay is a fantastic entertainer but you can tell his true passion is the Automobile.
Jay is total Class. His paying homage to Lee Iaccoca and Lee's brilliant career and loyalty to his Country is much to be respected. Congratulations Jay another great video.
I’m amazed that lee Iacocca is still alive What a trooper It’s cool to see mr Iacocca get to see the new mustang at 50 years Seeing your creation hit 50 years is definitely something to be proud of
Just finished Carroll Shelby's "lost interview" on My classic car. Shelby had a lot of love for Lee and credited him for being the enabler behind the Cobra and the Viper.
Only Jay Leno could do a proper classic review of this American icon. I'm too young to even get a driving licence but I think it's one of the best peices of content you could watch on UA-cam.
Ford is doing it right with this next generation mustang. Looks great and I know it will sell. Thank you Jay for another great video. Please DO NOT crush the prototype!
Jay has money and that has given him the opportunity to have many cars in his collection. Thats not very uncommon , there are many folks with money and huge desirable collections . But Jay went and shared his cars and his love of those cars with us and showed us that he really is one of us . Jay does these shows and shares his fortune with us and that makes him iconic in my opinion. He answers questions that real car guys all have and he gets interviews with the people that real car guys consider iconic and relevant . Im not sure he even knows how relevant he has become by sharing his good fortune with us in a way that only another real car guy can. He has used his money and his position in life to answer questions and bring us into a world we would otherwise not have to opportunity to see or hear. You are most certainly one of a kind Jay , thanks for doing these...
Hey Jay! A few years ago I wrote a letter to you after I read in article in Car and Driver about how you gave one lucky kid a ride to school in one of your cars. Anyway, I was just wondering if you had ever received the letter. I drew a picture of a red 1967 Shelby GT500 on the front of the letter with the Indian logo next to it because I knew that you really liked Indian motorcycles. I know the chances of you seeing this are low but here's to hoping!
Just happened to see this video today. I feel proud having a new Mustang now knowing how much it changed everything when it came out. I will cherish my Mustang until I pass it on to my children. Thanks Mr Iacocca.
Hey Jay I was wondering if you plan on doing a review on the 2015 GT? I just bought one. Being that you have driven the prior years and currently own a few, it'd be cool to see what you think of it.
The only Aston Martin qualities I find about it are the rear quarter windows, and many people forget that not too long ago, Ford owned Aston Martin. I can't say I'm too crazy about the new headlights (they look a bit thin and gimpy) and I'm definitely not happy about the electric steering, but it still retains a lot of the good old Mustang qualities. It's holding fast to a manual transmission, 302ci V8, tri-bar tail lights, double-barrel rally gauges, and, now that it has an IRS system out back, it can corner with the best of them. Overall, I'm happy with it. Mayhaps the GT500 version will ditch the electric power steering and make it a bit more muscular. ;)
Hey I agree with you but he's 89 and he grew up "Old World Style" like me and probably refused a chair,it's that "I want to die on my feet" mentality. But for his age,Mr.Iacocca looked great+was mentally sharp as a tack.:-) I loved his Red Sox hat. :-)
agree with vampirebear13. in his time, he was a man's man. that never fades away. if everyone else is standing, he probably demanded to stand along with them.
Robaroo Yea people would scramble to get Mr.Iacocca a chair if he needed one.I'm sure he wanted to stand next to his beautiful creations one last time on a cool trendy car show. :D
Dave Pericak is a very classy, down-to-earth guy. I've had the pleasure of meeting and talking with him at several Mustang Alley events, and he's always eager to answer any questions the Mustang community had (questions he could answer, obviously).
@ 17:50 the engineer claims no parts have been carried over from the 2014 model, however a moment later he admits the 2014 and 2015 are using the identical base engines and the 2015 5.0 is simply an upgrade of the 2014. I'd say that the entire drivetrain is a pretty significant 'part.'
He also said the 5.0 will have a 'significant upgrade' - by definition that is not the same engine anymore when you re-design it. Quit being a troll.. I'm sure he knows a bit better, being the chief engineer.
Ummm, no. You obviously no nothing, at all, about cars. Significant 'upgrade' referred to the horsepower rating. He likely means Ford's increased air-flow and/or installed slightly taller pistons to increase the compression ration. Those are all fine details, but the block, crank, heads will be the same and, hence, it's essentially the same motor. Quit making assertions about things you don't understand and being so naïve as to believe the chief engineer, who is trying to sell you on his car, isn't above a bit of puffery.
I'm not here to educate you but in all honesty you could use some. The arrogance points to low iq - not good. Which explains why you 'try' to win an argument by trying to belittle someone instead of presenting well though out points of discussion. Having said that - you clearly miss the concept of what a prototype is. The upgraded 5.0 will definitely have increased AF in order to produce more output. Flow is efficiency and therefore higher horsepower. Improving the direct injection of the engine is what Ford has been doing globally. This has a pronounced effect on the design of the head, intake, cams, pistons and the crank as well. So no - they will not be the same. Thanks for 'sharing' your uneducated opinion.
Rest in peace Mr. Iacocca. 7/2/2019.
Thank you for your wonderful work.
Amen! A true gentleman!
I lost two grandfathers this year...Lee and Juan Carlos.
Wow, they really didn’t wait long at all to make the mustang an suv after he died.

Its hard seeing Mr. Iacocca so frail, what a great man he was for the industry and like Jay, a hero of mine since childhood.
froochie123 July 2019 Rest In Peace Lee.
Time is the great leveler
I have looked up to that man working for GM/Volkswagen/Chrysler/Ford
Ah. Happens to everyone. He’s having a fun day. He has his wits, talking about a passion.
It's funny how I never really liked this guy's late night show, but I love his UA-cam channel.
So true.
One is passion the other is a pay check
Jay is better when he is not trying to be funny.
Jay is a real car guy, very passionate and knowledgeable about everything he has in his collection and on his channel. I don’t think he was any less funny than the rest of the late night hacks, none of those shows are honestly the height of comedy
Yo so true never watched him at night but I lov these he's ok✌️✌️💯🔥
RIP Lee.
Every Mustang lives with your DNA.
Time stops for no-one. Bless Mr Iacocca. We need a few more of him.
It's a shame corporate America doesn't appreciate people like him. They can't relate and are afraid of his type and usually force them to comform or find a way to push them out of the company. Instead of being creative they "trim" budgets and lay workers off to look good to Wall Street.

Thus passes an American hero. Rest in Peace Mr. Iacocca. Thanks for the Mustang!

Thank you Jay.
Keep up the great work.
yes fishing is a great pastime.
Iacocca is the coolest name ever, I can’t thank him enough for creating the best sport car ever, I love mustangs !
People who dislike this design probably don't know how to appreciate elegant, thoughtful, subtle, but significant design. Take for example the new typography and needles for the instrumental cluster. Just gorgeous. And that GT typography on the back is just perfect.
Ford had nothing on GM when it came to 60s design.
Or they just have different tastes
Wow, Mr. Iacocca! A very intelligent man. I'd like to hear more from him, the conclusions he drew back then and the conclusions he would draw today.
@G hrvyck I have :D.

I agree with Jay, I never understand why they destroy the prototypes, it's destroying history and I for one think it's stupid and a huge waste.
Theres no need for it to be destroyed. They should have a warehouse of nothing but the concepts and prototypes like nissan does.
“It was more fun.” Phrase never used these days to pitch an investment
Wow lee iacocca is a legend and icon.. and mustangs are too
these episodes can be as great as the cars. what a classic!
wow!
One of the Best Shows Ever! Loved to see Mr. Iacocca, a real credit to the Italians.
being a ford guy, I just love all this nostalgia
It's kind of crazy that despite how much the mustang has changed just by small touches you can still tell they're both mustangs. The horse obviously but more than just that.
I love that lee asked jay a question
I have watched almost every episode but this one is my favorite. Absolutely amazing to see Leno and Iacocca together. God Bless Detroit!
Thanks Iacocca for the Mustang and for saving the Chrysler/Dodge brand, may you rest in peace.
Love it! Glad to see Mr. Iacocca again.
RIP Mr. Iacocca. You forever changed the auto industry.
Mr Iacocca created an icon... Thank you for all your job...
Rest Easy Mr. IACOCCA
Jay is total Class. His paying homage to Lee Iaccoca and Lee's brilliant career and loyalty to his Country is much to be respected. Congratulations Jay another great video.
Amen to Lee Iacocca!!!
A REAL American.
It’s amazing that you had Lee on your show, definitely my favorite show of all time now
I wanted to see Lee Iacocca do a burnout in the 2015 GT!
I’m amazed that lee Iacocca is still alive
What a trooper
It’s cool to see mr Iacocca get to see the new mustang at 50 years
Seeing your creation hit 50 years is definitely something to be proud of
This was filmed in 2013 and Mr Iacocca still here.
NHseacoast
Still I thought he died much earlier
the new mustang looks great!!
My dad had a Lee Iacocca book in college, a living legend.
Iacocca's smile when they said the cobra ❤
out of all your, "garage" videos, this one is my favorite. Lee Iacocca is AWESOME.
Ford is doing it right with this next generation mustang. Looks great and I know it will sell. Thank you Jay for another great video. Please DO NOT crush the prototype!
Thank you Jay for always mentioning places to see like the Ford Museum for people, who share your fascination .
Thanks for a great interview Jay, maybe only you could have done that.
Just saw this for the first time. RIP Lee, the automotive community will always miss and appreciate you
I will always own a Mustang.
+Harley Williams preach brother...
+Harley Williams you look like matt farah
Amen brother
Great to see Mr Iacocca.......
mr lee iacocca is an automotive legend.
I actually quite like the way it looks. Hated it at first but it grew on me fast.
Great video Jay, nice to look back at the history behind the Ford Mustang, well done.
ProDrift101 he talked about that countach ride with Doug Demuro
I'm sure he got your letter. You have a good heart. God bless you.
Just happened to see this video today. I feel proud having a new Mustang now knowing how much it changed everything when it came out. I will cherish my Mustang until I pass it on to my children. Thanks Mr Iacocca.
a very nice mustang
Lee has always been a "hero" of mine. What a wonderful human being. 🙂
Rest in peace lee
God bless man
Iacocca is a legend, read his autobiography, good stuff.
Hey Jay I was wondering if you plan on doing a review on the 2015 GT? I just bought one. Being that you have driven the prior years and currently own a few, it'd be cool to see what you think of it.
Keep up the good work Jay (and crew). Love your passion for cars. Very eclectic.
I love how the first mustang was sold in Newfoundland, Canada
It wasn't, it was sold in Chicago.

Nothing but respect for Mr Lee
RIP Mr Iacocca, so sad that FB is blocking the image of this post from it's Newsfeed. They have no respect for anyone.
I'm a long time Mustang fan and I think the new model will be a hit! Thanks Ford for continuing the legend!
Mayhaps the GT500 version will ditch the electric power steering and make it a bit more muscular. ;)
RIP Mr Iacocca, you created such an iconic car! 🙏🏻❤️
Jay and his crew really should have given Iaccocca a chair-looks like he is struggling to stand that long.
Robaroo
Yea people would scramble to get Mr.Iacocca a chair if he needed one.I'm sure he wanted to stand next to his beautiful creations one last time on a cool trendy car show. :D
@@Vampirebear13 my thoughts too. I'm sure Jay tried to make him sit and he refused.

WojtekFigurniak He's also a salesman, noob. You believe eveyrthing you hear?
Thomas Ferrugia
I think what he was referring to was the sheetmetal and underpinnings even the corvette uses the same engine as the previous gen
