The 13-14 Mustang GT is, in my eyes, the best Mustang ever made. The true pony car styling and the mighty Coyote 5.0 engine brought together a truly remarkable package. And for an MSRP of just over $30,000, and now $19,000 - $25,000 used, it's one of the best valued sports car out there. If I ever sell my 2007 GT, it's going to be for a 13-14.
@@fynpasta313 read the full comment. I am talking specifically about the 13-14 because that’s the years with the last (best) S197 styling. Yes, the 5.0 Coyote is in the 15 - present Mustang GT’s, but those are in the S550 bodies. Of which I could care less for, as they look like a Ford Fusion and Mercedes-Benz had a baby. Much better interior, much better suspension, yes. But the styling does not scream Mustang. Hence why I said, IN MY OPINION, the 13-14 is the best Mustang.
One problem that wasn’t mentioned is that for 05-09 some mustangs (in my personal case, a 2005 GT Manual Premium), water can leak into the cab on the passenger side and cause the floor to become wet. This can usually be fixed by cleaning out debris that clogs up the drain areas under the windshield area which is usually leaves and other organic matter
Had that happen! Luckily only a little water before I noticed and googled it. Both drain plugs on either side were packed full of debris. Both my door seals dried and bulged out around the doors which also caused leaks. Bought a few from the dealer and put them in myself.
Also had that happen! It just happened to leak right after getting my cracked windshield replaced. I called the window guys, and they were freaking out, because they had no idea why it was leaking. Turned out to be a bunch of pine needles clogging up the drainage holes behind the dash, under the hood. After spraying the debris out, it stopped leaking. We have to check it every now and again, to make sure the pine needles don't clog the holes again.
Got a 2005 automatic GT mint condition as it was garage kept forever, only has 50k miles on it! I love it and keep it in the garage covered up waiting for sunny days to drive it. It was a childhood favorite of mine and always told myself I’ll buy that model mustang one day when I’m older. Can’t wait for the summer to drive it!!
I have a boosted 2006 GT with almost 90k miles. It has held up quite well. Then again, I take care of it, so that is much of why it's still in new looking condition. You just cannot beat the retro look of the 05-09.
I have a 2005 supercharged gt with over 160,000 miles on it. It's so much more satisfying to beat up on hellcats, ctsv's and yotes with and old 3v car.😎🤘
@@bad3vlv672 🤣🤣 A supercharged 2005 has about the same power as a stock coyote, you arent beating up on hellcats, or much else. The GT500 in 2008 has 500hp and runs over a 13 second quarter.
@@richarddonegan4666 not really by choice, but i have an auto 06 too. Much easier to get a little squirrely in the rain compared to manual mustangs I've driven
Just got a 2006 GT auto with 207,000. It was clearly well-cared for, and runs like a top. I know with that many miles, it's only a matter of time before some work is required, but it was the best deal we could find, the best overall condition, and we could be sure of the car's history. It's wickedly fast, especially compared to the 95 GT I had before it in my early 20s.
Agree 100%, I must have that front end config, as well as the traditional, sequential tail lights. Same thing (for me) with the gauge cluster. It brings back so much nostalgia for me as they had those types of analog gauges when I was a kid.
2014 GT premium vert SGM. Got it in February 2014 4,800 miles on it, just rolled 86,000 after seven years, 2 sets of tires and 2 batteries and a water pump. Most reliable car I’ve ever owned and can’t beat the sound on the summer evenings with top down. Buy one if you can!
The S197 is a solid choice. The 4.6 liter engine is under stressed and is known for going over 150K with regular abuse. It’s not going to be as fast as a Coyote, or say a 6.4 Chally, but at 0-60 in a hair over 5 seconds and 1/4 mile times in the mid 13s, it’s plenty quick. Strong aftermarket support. Easy to work on. East to mod. Not terribly expensive. I bought one with 30K miles on it, have owned it for 3 years and have not had a single repair in it. The 2 piece plugs can be issues but I had a t bird with those plugs and I replaced those without issue. The key is to run lots of fuel injector cleaner through the engine, get the carbon off those plugs and go sloooooow.
I have owned 13 2005-2008 mustang GT's. Overall I am very impressed with their longevity and performance. I do not modify my cars nor would I buy one that has been modified. I am most fond of the 2008 model year because the subtle changes in the interior like the radio knobs etc. They also seem to be less prone to suspension noises in the front end. My only significant mechanical failures have been with automatic models that experienced the 2-3 shift solenoid issue. To avoid that I only buy manual transmission versions now. My latest is a 2007 California Special convertible, 5 speed with 6100 original miles which rarely comes out of the garage. I have a stock 2008 GT 5spd that I use as a daily driver. No complaints with either car.
06' GT vert here. Just under 170k and still going strong. Yep, she's starting to show here age. Tie rods replaced, alternator, metal/rubber trim around ¼ window starting to rust. Convertible top goes down a little lopsided, and the good old door trim/center panel is unglued and just recently need to replace the blower motor. Also normal shit like battery and plugs. Still on the stock clutch!!!All n all a faaaantastic car and has never let me down and I'm sure will keep going. Still love it after 13yrs of ownership!!
Great Video! I just had my 2012 original owner 3.7 V6 serviced at 125k. It NEVER uses a drop of oil! With a Motor Trend 0-60 time of 5.1 seconds, I have never needed more from than my Performance Pack, Premium, MCOA Mustang provides!
Nice! I have the same MCOA Performance White fully optioned 2011 Edition, 129k miles, I bought in 06-22 for $6000! I’m piecing together the Performance Package (only available option it didn’t come with) … the only mods I plan to do is update the rear lower control arms, and take the 2.73 gear ratio up to 3.73 (keeps my out of trouble at the dreaded California Smog Station)😅…. Adding a tight front bra to conceal the hood corrosion and a rear trunk black panel to cover a small ding. A nice, sharp collectible (1 of 187 MCOA optioned this way) sleeper that should be in the 4’s off the line 0-60 with the 3.73 gears and still get in the upper 20’s mpg at 65!!! I believe pound for pound these 3.7 V6 Stangs are the planet’s absolute best performance value EVER! Thank you Ford (and the guy who sold me this gem!) … Way to go Brandon!!! 🎉
It’s crazy to me that all these guys in the comments are saying how much the love the car and driving it. Then mentioned it as 6-60k on it. It’s a 10+ year old car at minimum. I got my 2011 gt/cs new and have put 240, 000 km on it, summer driving only. Enjoy your cars people they’re meant to be on the road not sitting in a garage
True, I just bought one with 61k on it. This will be my daily driver, not some garage princess. Even if I don't need to go somewhere, I still want to jump in it and just take a drive. The sound and the shifting through gears just doesn't get old. That said, I don't drive that much anymore so the miles won't add up too fast.
I still have my 2007 v6 mustang and she runs really well! I was surprised by the issues listed here for the v6 and I literally ran into both problems. The stupid plastic A/C actuator crapped out onto me and cost me $800 of labor since it was such a pain to replace according to a mechanic. I also ran into a problem where my coolant would leak because of the bad plastic thermostat housing. Even though I am the 3rd owner of my mustang, she still runs beautifully with no problems after 5 years of owning it. Currently at 140K miles after road tripping my mustang from VA to FL 3 times!
Bro the ac actuator cost $20 and 20 minutes to replace there are tons of videos on how to do it just take out the glove box and unscrew the two screws holding it in
In 2017, I bought a 2013 3.7 with 52k miles. Currently at 94k and haven't had a single problem with it, I mod it and have had some issues because of mods but truly nothing wrong with it, great car.
My 07 pony V-6 is still incredible, 120,000 miles with not a single problem. My only additions were Year 1 magnums with T/A radials. Still runs fantastic. I'll drive it anywhere.
I just bought a 2010 GT 5 speed Track Pack car (just like the one at 5:08 ) it is the funnest car I have ever had now I've driven 550 horsepower muscle cars but this 315 horse 5 speed GT is so fun to drive it has really good Street manners drives smooth air conditioner works but if you punch the throttle it'll pin you in the seat it's a modern muscle car
I always found it interesting that just a year later the new 3.7 V6 was making almost the same amount of horsepower at 305 but still could not match the torque of that 3 valve 4.6 V8
And it will keep on going because it is a modular 2v 4.6 not the fastest but definitely the most reliable they put that motor in everything up until I think 2011 cars like the Crown Vic and Lincoln Town Cars I do wish after 04 that the Mustang would have kept it as a option but nope
I have 2 of the s197 a 2005 and a 2007,both V6 convertibles, my 2005 has 217xxx miles now and runs perfectly still, the only major problem was the transmission solenoid went bad and wouldn't upshift, it went through brakes, alternator, ECT, but still runs great, my 2007 is also a convertible pony premium edition, it's at 132xxx miles now, only one problem, power driver seat died, but everything still works after having the seat replaced, I've had 4 mustangs total and they have been the most reliable cars I've had, I have a BMW E60 (5 series) and a Mercedes ML 350, the mustang has been more reliable and cost less to maintain
I love my 06 GT, it is well taken care of and had a few issues that was fixed easily. The worst of the issues was water seeping in to the cabin from the front. This was fixed with new cowling mount seals, but I had to remove the interior to get the carpet out. when I go on trips to visit family I like to take the Mustang.
@@Isaac-od4rm yea on my 2014 stang i had a water leak coming in from the tank , the way i figured where it was coming from was to spray the trunk with a hose , once i did that , i seen i had water coming in from the screws that holds into the taillights , they weren’t tight enough so i screw them back tight enough & it worked
Element drain plug plug up pretty easily; these are found under the plastic at the base of the windshield. Specifically, on the passenger side, when this drain plug clogs, water will enter the cabin from the cabin air filter port, and dump water on your front passenger side floor. Less of a concern on the driver's side, but should still be checked regularly as well. Already touched on, but the aluminum hood is a $1000 or more to replace; so splurging on a fiberglass or carbon hood is probably the better option. Can be the same price or lower, or even a little more depending on style and manufacturer, but it wont corrode like aluminum or steel. A nuisance, you have to reset your windows regularly. When you open the door, the window drops a little bit. It doesn't always raise back up when you close the door. The regularity of this issue is REALLY annoying, and it can happen anytime, even if you just reset your windows. Lower the windows, hold the switches down for 3 seconds. Raise the windows all the way, hold the switches up for 3 seconds. Windows are reset, and should close properly when you close your door. Even the smallest gap can let in water, which adds up overtime. Door panels inside need to be glued back into place, or replaced. Gluing can be a temporary fix, even when well executed. That's all I can think of!
When I saw the concept it was mind blowing. And then the new gen was gorgeous. I have my ‘14 GT premium in black since new and has about 12k. 6 speed manual. It’s a blast to drive in the weekends. I love it.
Owned a 2007 GT/CS convertible since new. ZERO issues and one of the best 5 speed manuals around. Sold it in August due to left knee issues and replaced it with an ultra low mileage 2014 GT Convertible with A6. So far so good and that HP increase is amazing.
2007 4.0 auto Mustang. A little over 121,000. Drove it to work two Saturdays ago, got there fine. Came out to go home, put it in gear, NOTHING. Won't move. It's at a friend's transmission shop to determine what happened. We both think the torque converter failed, I've had the blinking OD OFF light several times, and the code was P0741, Torque Converter Clutch Locked OFF. Changed the fluid, filter and solenoids. It was fine for 9 months. Then on the way to work, it started blinking again. Also having an issue with a very occasional Low Oil Pressure warning, only at idle. It's fine otherwise. Likely needs a new oil pressure sensor. Had to change the plastic thermostat housing, it was leaking bad. Replaced it with a metal unit. Good now.
I have a 2014 v6 too in ruby red that I brought new. Approaching 100k with nothing more than routine maintenance needed. I love my baby too. At 56 yo, I'm feeling like I should get my old lady car, but I can't bring myself to do it. I just love my car, it's just myself and 2 small dogs so.... I'll keep driving my stang!
I have a 2013 Mustang GT with the Track Pack. Bought it brand new Gen 1.5 V-8. I have had it for 9 years + and the only thing is I had a bad water pump. Other than that, no issues. As for the manual transmission problems I have heard of...not on my ride. Either way, the BEST car I have ever owned and still love it today! It's my Daily Driver.
@@cjmoore7240 nice! What’s the difference between the torsion limited slip and standard limited slip rear end? I’m trying to hone in on what Mustang to get…. Kind of landing on an 11-14’ special edition type coupe.
@shatangatang the torsen diff is a limited slip diff, however, slightly better for track duty (my guess). But the solid rear axle of the 11 - 14 models are better in a drag against the IRS of the 2015+ Mustangs. Look into th 12 - 14 model years. They are IMO the best years of the Mustang.
The 2013 & 2014 Mustangs are the best looking S197's. IMO, They look better then the S550. If only the interiors on these cars would of been a little nicer, However you can't go wrong with the 13-14's, They are awesome!
I take insane care of my beautiful 2013 GT. She is currently receiving a Cobra R Hood the functional hood vents leak water into my open end Airaid intake. I have 0 problems since my purchase from new. No problems with the MT82 6 speed Transmission. I have had the emphasis type writer tick since purchase but has shown no problems related to it. She is a beast at nearly 500 hp with my upgrades. Be safe and happy flying fellow 5.0 owners.
Bought my 2014 5.0 brand new with 13 miles, its a 6 speed manual with the track package. the car as of now has 120k miles and the only problems ive had so far are. Melted A/C Clutch-covered under warranty Battery leaking- covered under warranty The leather accent on the driver side door is starting to peel off The driver side window makes a loud sound when it closes all the way. Differential pinion gasket leak But the biggest problem has been with the MT-82 transmission. The consensus on the mustang pages is that the stock clutch doesn't disengage fully during high rev shifts so it would lock you out of gear and depending on how hard you try to shit it will eat the synchros. I have replaced mine 3 times, the fist time i bough a used one and the second time i fix the first one by buying the rebuild kits online. If you do get a manual trans stang, swap up the stock clutch and dont put a RXT clutch in it. I know its expensive but alot of people say the Mantic clutch is the go to clutch for these transmissons.
My 2011 ran the MT82 gauntlet successfully but did suffer from the hood corrosion and blend door actuator failure, blend door is hard to reach but a $20 replacement part if you do it yourself, the hood corrosion is easily covered by a bug deflector/hood protector. Such great cars, powerful, sharp looking, and correct-wheel-drive.
I got an 08 two and a half years ago, no major problems, I’ve replaced the alternator once, starter once, replaced the spark plugs and only had one break, fixed a coolant leak from under the intake manifold, and I had to replace one air blend actuator. Other than that, it’s been really good to me!
Also if you get a check engine code for cam phasers. Don’t fear right away. Check your alternator first. I had the code and it was due to a bad alternator in my 2005 mustang gt. Replaced it and the code has been gone for 5 years now. Another problem I had was a leaking pinon seal on the differential. Shocking original clutch at 107000 miles. Paint fading. I live in Florida so the car looks almost new underneath. Spark plugs were a pain but can be done. Just make sure you get the removal tool first in case of a few breaking. The new ones are one piece now. One other thing is the 2005 mustang gts do not like dirty throttle bodies. Done replace it before cleaning it. If your car starts stalling for no reason check it. I would say overall it’s actually been a very reliable car for me.
Bought a new 2014 gt in black , base model. The only option I had to have was Fords most excellent $ 2500 track package. 70k on it now . Had to fix a leaky rear pinion seal , $ 150 at a specialty shop . Going to need a battery soon. Still on original brakes. Best car I ever owned , Im 63 .
I bought a used 08 S197 with over 109,000 miles on it last year. It's a V-6, 5spd manual trans. The car's condition was suffering from bad driver/Mechanic syndrome. I have fixed the mistakes. I also did get the metal thermostat housing. Matter in fact looks like the same one in the video. It IS my daily driver. Being I am in Northern Indiana, yes, I drove in all that cold and snow this year, always started, no driving or handling problems. Did not get stuck or loose control of the car off the road. No problems major mechanical problems so far except by what the previous owner had done to the car. I will fined that out as it goes along. I also plan to keep a normal clearing of the rubber grommets that get blocked causing water to leak in the car. I do not understand how someone could not do this, it is as simple as a oil level check. There are only two, and as long as it is done twice a year, once in April, and once in October, something like this, it doesn't get bad enough to plug up. That is about it.
Bought a 2010 Mustang V6 convertible in grabber blue and still own it. Has 73k miles on it as of now and only issues is I had to replace one blend door actuator and the plastic thermostat housing. The blend door started clicking around 40k miles and the thermostat housing started leaking around 60k miles. First sign this was leaking was I noticed a faint coolant oder after driving. The leak was very small but it got bigger to the point I could see the leak. I am able to do most all repairs and maintenance myself and these cars a easy to work on. Great vehicle.
@@gardengurl1971 Yes, these cars are very reliable and mine is as well. I basically just do routine maintenance and put gas in it a drive. The only big issues with this generation of mustang with the 4.0 V6 automatic is the automatic trans will eventually develop shifting issues due the servo bores wearing out because the servo piston is a machine fit between the steel piston and the aluminum trans housing. Over time the bore will wear to the point it leaks pressure and the trans will start having shifting problems. This generally manifests between 70k and 150k miles depending on how you drive. I don’t hot rod my mustang like many do so thins should help delay this problem. The other issue on earlier model V6s 2005-2008 or so the timing cassettes make break and an expensive timing cassette replacement is in order. If you can do this job yourself the cost isn’t as bad but you will need a Ford timing kit to hold the cams locked in place in order to properly time the engine. On the V8s this era had those two piece spark plugs that are notorious for breaking if you try to remove them to replace. Also some cars will have leak issues where water will come into the cabin to the right and under the glove box right where a fuse box is located. This is caused by the drain holes in the cowl stopping up. There may be a few other minor issues but all in all this generation of Mustang 2005-2010 are very reliable cars.
Vista blue 07 GT/CS I bought new. 22.8 miles daily. Just can't seem to trade it in. Defrost blender door and alternator only repairs. (Replace with 2010 alternator) Synthetic oil with a splash of STP, and a couple oz of MMO in the gas tank twice a year. 98K miles with plenty to go. 197s do much better sleeping in a garage. Seems outdoor stangs develop electrical issues under the dash from accumulated moisture.
2011 V6 Convertible with manual trans. I'm the second owner. Wonderful cruising convertible that gets 34 mpg on 87 octane. I've had a bunch of British & Italian sports cars and for a hundred reasons this Mustang is much better and more fun to drive and easier to own and maintain. It has 82,000 miles and drives like new. Enjoyed your video. 🙂
2008 v6 170k miles tranny went at 150k. Brake pistons like to get locked up. Interiors falling apart in every way. Thermostat housing been replaced twice, is leaking right at this moment. Ball joints and tie rods replaced. New wheel hub. Harmonic balancer came apart at 40k miles. Engine, has always had no issues besides the coolant leaks. Power steering pump replaced at 120k. Battery replaced a few times. The rear suspension has always squeaked when stopping. Water gets caught in rear quarter panels. Damn what else...... fuel pump started to go. Put 93 in it now, havent had a problem since. Basically its beat to shit but the engine has never had any problems. The v6 4.0 is definitely durable.
I had an 06GT , Vista Blue Metallic that I bought new in Feb 06. Just recently traded it in for a new 2020 Explorer. It was my daily driver and had 120K miles on it. I miss it. I had a few minor problems over the years (replace rear suspension pan hard and links, interior door skins peeling - replaced with aftermarket, removed and replaced Shaker 500 with Pioneer head unit for Apple Car Play, outer door trim - faded and replaced, a/c compressor failed and replaced). No major engine issues. I did have the blistering paint on hood after 2nd year of owning. Had it repainted twice. Unfortunately the auto 5spd trans died and estimate of $4K to replace was a show stopper. Otherwise I loved the body lines and look of front end with the fog lamps. Wish I kept it but we have a 68 fastback in our garage undergoing a full restoration.
I have just purchased a 06 GT Convertible with Automatic Transmission. Basically minimal maintenance was done to the car. So I am working on many changes to it. The issue I am told by many but do not see on videos are the water leak issues and the convertible rear window separating from the convertible top and allowing massive quantities of water into the car during a bad rain. Would like to hear more about the water issues and possible repair - besides installing a new top - of the convertible top rear window. I had to change the spark plugs and only had 4 plugs of 8 come out whole. It is a long and tedious process to remove the remaining half of the plug. But once done, the car runs beautifully with 163,000 miles.
Had a 08 Bullitt that we ran HARD regularly and the car was an absolute tank at 100k-118k miles (sold it later). Only issue I ran into was the fact that high horsepower built 4.6L 3 Valve motors blow through alternators if you don’t have an upgraded alternator. Similar issue on the terminator cobra
Very happy with my 2011 GT, had been looking at the Shelby's but insurance is higher, the super charger if not maintained and serviced regularly can be a very costly repair. The 2011 GT can make close to same power as Shelby with only a few mods and it is cheaper to buy, maintain and insure.
Yes I found two of the 05 GT coupe and a Saleen convertible no problems with either one but these cars are garage queens, well taken care of, both rune strong both cars are the premium units all options.. the coupe is an automatic and the Saleen has a six speed manuel. Both cares are Red . I bought both new as of this writing in am 70+ years old and I feel that they are very good cars
2013 Boss 302 Laguna Seca owner - love the car! Transmission is an issue for high rpm shifts but was resolved for me with an MGW shifter and McLeod dual-disk clutch (the organic version - think its RST?). I also have the lightened steel McLeod flywheel - why not if the transmission is open? Anyway, sucks to have to fix this, but BOSS 302s are amazing once they can shift properly at 7500 RPM...
I can tell you why, I have a 2014 GT. These shifters don't allow "defelction" under high RPM's. So you have to wait for the trans to move back, to shift. A short throw fixes it, they actually fix it from factory if you replace the clutch. There's a slew of trans and clutch issues with these cars you're going to run into. I just ripped out my trans to replace everything. These issues arnt a "random" car thing either. It's a faulty design and happens to every single car so I'd be ready soon lol
@@deeteezy2523 My 2009 has 98k miles, drives like a dream. 5 speed is so much much fun! I've had no issues, I drive it hard and have fun! Put in a short throw shifter and coil overs. Would by another in a heartbeat!
@@MikeHalkiotis I bought a 07 Shelby gt manual and it comes with the short shifter , but goin through the gears doesn’t feel so smooth can feel clunky sometimes , atleast compared to my grandpas manual in his car , shifts like butter with like no effort at all, wasn’t sure if it’s the short shifter or just the way the transmission is , but how does urs feel when shifting gears ? Every gear I go through you always hear click click , going from neutral then to the next gear. Still goes in gear and stays in gear with no problem just feels uncomfortable
My 2014 has been pretty good with the exception of the water pump going out at 42000 miles. That cost over 500.00 dollars. But no other issues so far. Still Loving that Mustang feeling!
The two piece spark plug use in the 4.6 ended in about June ‘08. Mine was built July 08 and they’re one piece. Ihave had no issues with my 08 GT California Special manual although I store it in winter to avoid salt exposure. The only issue I have is that the clutch pedal should be about 2” further toward the driver (or the accel pedal 2” away from the driver) so that the drivers right leg isn’t jammed against the lower dash - would be ‘bad’ in an accident and is a bit uncomfortable for taller people. Good video!
Biggest issue I've noticed among the community and my own experience is the transmission. Second gear went at 50k miles after being replaced third went. Apparently something with the stock shifter can cause transmission failure. No issues since upgrading.(Manual transmission)
I had a 2006 mustang and my thermostat housing blew apart at a stop light. I also had the alternator go out on the freeway in Chicago. I miss it. That car was the one thing that made me enjoy life
Girlfriend has a 2007 GT. 130k on it with virtually no issues. I have a 2013 GT tack pack glass top car. I love it. I will agree the transmission is super crappy as is the stock shifter. In fact out of all my cars it's probably the worst one I have ever had. Ford certainly tried to save money on that. I have a trunk open sensor that malfunctions. The trunk is closed but it says it's open. Otherwise it's a great car. Fun to drive, fairly fast, sounds good and looks great.
2007 ford 4.0 v6, the hardest part of getting a used mustang is maintenance history. Beaten up fords like any car is unreliable. Timing chains cassettes usually go out between 150-200k miles making a ticking noise Various leaks mostly coolant and rarely, rear main seal, valve and other various oil gaskets, being severely worn out from prior owners neglecting and abusing the car. I’ve replaced an engine due to a major coolant failure (thermostat failed) and the main coolant hose blew off the block. Overheating the engine The donor engine I had, (180k miles) Has severely worn down timing. Cassettes that had to be replaced Differential was shot from heavy load and use, parts of the differential was shot out the back lol. But most of these failures were due to lack of proper maintenance from old owners. ^^^ They’re great cars but, a good service history is a dime in a dozen. -source Im the idiot under the car. Pm me for photos lol
@@michaelchadwick3497 Is anything wrong with it. I live close to Memphis Tn. I really wanted a coupe. Can you send me a picture of your car please. You can text it to me @ 9013897831. My messenger is not working for some reason.
I’ve got an 07 GT Convertible with a manual transmission. I’ve noticed that if I use the lumbar support on the driver’s seat it blows a fuse. And power seat won’t work. After replacing two fuses I don’t mess with the lumbar switch any more
This is the best Mustang there ever was for technology if it for strength and durability the drivetrain durability the 3 valve Mustang is the one of the best there ever was very easy to make it faster by a few changes all you need to do is change the camshaft and change the gearing in the rear end and you got yourself a really sweet hot rod
I have a 2006 GT and I put some Edelbrock cams in it and a few other stuff and it's just one sweet ride a Hurst shifter I got the 355 gears you could not ask for more and it's in mint condition it was Winter stored
made this video a little bit after I got mine, already got the leak under the intake manifold fixed, which is from what I've seen a really common coolant leak on this car deleted the plastic elbow (that's what fails and causes the leak) entirely and now it's 2 hose clamps and a hose connecting both ends, shouldn't fail until the hose degrades
I have the flaking paint and corrosion on the front edge of my hood. 2011. My body guy says it tends to come back after repair. I cleaned area with non-ferrous sandpaper, filled and primed, painted, color-sanded and clear-coated. A little fiddly because I have the tri-coat candy metallic red. Not perfect, but I wasn't going to spend $450 for a repair that was likely to fail later. Not perfect, but looks pretty good. Alternative would be a fiberglas hood.
Great video. I recently bought a 2011 gt california special. The air vent problem is true. I had to replace my a week after I bought it. Easy fix though
Another problem would be the drains in the bottom of the cowl. Theres these grommets that make the stain hole really small and any ounce of debris can clog them. And if it clogs on the passengers side the water will go through the cabin air filter and spill out under the passenger side dash. So my fix is to clean the debris out of the cowl then remove the grommets. Other than that I've never had a problem with a 3V. Mine has 130000 miles and hasn't encountered this issue yet, but my sisters car did and it ruined the carpet in her car.
I had this happen on my 2011. Now I clean these rubber drains out twice a year. Spring has thready pollen things from oaks, Fall has stuff from crape myrtles (I'm in NC). They clean out very easily.
My mustang is a gt 05 and when I hit 160000 miles on it everything that can go wrong did! But I repkace the clutch and all fluids plus did a tune up last thing I need to fix is the throttle body
I purchased a 2014 Mustang GT/CS convertible with 15K miles on it in 2016. I could have purchased a 2016 GT coupe cheaper than the 2014. 65K later the vehicle hasn’t had one problem. It was stock when I purchased it. Not stock now and have never done a burn out or drag raced it. I’m an old man. I like the 200 extra HP if I need it.
2013 V6 here.. common problems I experienced is leaking pinion seal, rear lower control arm bushings "clunk" needed replacing both around 40k miles. I have a bit of leading edge hood bubbling and under 35k miles I needed to replace cracked up factory antenna and channel covers in roof gutters.
Problems with my 5th gen is dash gauges not working or reading properly Randomly overheating from fans not working after chasing down everything I could I tuned the car and it randomly fixed the problem other than that haven’t had much problems mines a 05 GT I do have the tick on start up but not pressed about it hoping to upgrade cams and cam phases this spring and hopefully more stuff as well maybe some forced induction SC or turbo and new gearing maybe 4.10 idk yet though
Owned an 05 v6 and one of the issues I had was the car stopped starting after awhile. Replaced the alternator and still didn’t work. But loved the looks of the black paint and everything I did on it.
Spray cleaner on the mass sensor but don't touch it wipe it ect spray air dry and problem solved if you don't do it twice a yr, you're going to have start prb,and idle performance issues. Peace
'08 California Special with 63,000 miles. Roushcharged with Ford Racing Hot Rod cams, shorties and a tune. About 465 HP, crank. Painted Lead Foot Gray. No faux gas cap, no decklid spoiler, no faux side vents, no cheesy faux ram air piece on hood. Retains the front and rear facias. One piece driveshaft, Ford Racing exhaust from back in the day. 265 rubber on all fours. Sequential tail lights. I designed it to be a solid daily driver and a good representation of what a modern muscle car is. Future mods include a slight drop in stance with lowering springs, SLPs, power bump to about 490 crank, new wheels and rubber; 255 up front, 275 out back. Strut tower brace and trunk brace.
all cars have issues...if you love your Mustang you just deal with them, the 4.6 cars are far more durable than the 5.0 series, yeah they are faster but Ford rushed that into production so it was prone to head gasket and tranny issues. My 96 Cobra has over 300K miles, everything but the motor has been replaced or rebuilt..I love it and that's all that counts
as a mustang lover who bought his first mustang in 2008, I had a 1999 4.6 2v and I can tell you it really lacked power+horrible interior and I had cheap bolts on such LT headers, BBK CAI, no cats and end up with 235rwhp and sold it in in 2011 and don't remember how many miles but it had a lot even when I bought it then bought a 2006 4.6 3v plastic interior but still loved it this model is pretty amazing cuz performance parts are still cheap and gives a better result than the 2v plus you can find any parts used for cheap I bought a full Vortech V-3 Si Supercharger kit used for 2600 USD with installation and tune "benefits of joining mustang forums and Instagram" at 7psi I had a decent 412rwhp with full bolts on, I started at 260rwhp stock I believe and sold it 2017 for a decent price which I couldn't pass, the car had 167k miles in 2017 finally bought a 2011 stang which I had to wait until they become cheaper, rubber, plastic, and fake chrome but interior-wise pretty sweet especially the heated seat, performance-wise legit an amazing car with so much power but performance parts cost almost double the 3v even used and keep their value as they are always in demand, I have almost full bolts-on and got to 433rwhp on pump gas
@@aesir0784 I don't know who you're but honestly I also don't care if you believe or not but imagine feeling so jealous that you can't afford a car under $6000.
I own a 2010 GT and the only issues i have ever run into were the paint on the hood, and when switching from inside to outside air on the thermostat i get a clicking sound for a couple moments. Im told its a cheap fix just a pain to get to since i have to go in through the glove box to get to it.
Had an 05 V6 (that my brother in law still drives) 140k miles, door panel vinyl keeps peeling off, chrome bubbles, has had problems going into third since 30k especially when cold outside and dealer says there's nothing wrong with it and the stupid plastic thermostat housing cracking (who designed that pos part?). Have two 13's, a sixer and a GT. Sixer needed a new water pump at 30k and leaked until 60k when it seems to have sealed itself up (now at 85k). GT is at 140k and other than a sporadic P0171 problem I'm tracking down and a frozen brake caliper at 70k has been flawless.
I bought my 2014 Mustang GT new. I actually bought it in April, 2013. I have had two recalls for the airbag sensors. Other than that I have one minor issue with the paint on the driver's door handle flaking off. This has not happened on the passenger's door, which is not opened as often. The other issue, which I have lived with and continue to live with is that my Sirius XM radio sounds like it is monaural, whereas FM and blu tooth provide true stereo definition, even when Sirius XM is blu toothed to the car radio. I can live with this but it would have been nice to have stereo definition on Sirius XM.
Lol "this is a 30k interior in a 20k car" Yeah I laugh at that....because it sure as hell didn't hold up today. Anything chrome bubbles, Vinyl wrap on doors comes apart, Leather seats tear easily, quality of the plastics feel cheap.
I have had good luck with the four S197's I have had. My current car is a 2008 GT that had just 2 previous owners. There is some wear on the drivers upper seat but the rest of the interior is in great shape. The car is holding up well with just under 90,000 miles.
@@DsRandomMemories mines an 05 gt, third owner, chrome bubbled on dash gauge cluster, rip in my seat, vinyl on the doors was reupholstered (poorly by previous owner), silver plastic trim is poorly made compared to the default black, honestly I could go on about the interior lol. Sure would help if you conditioned it all which I’d imagine the previous owner didn’t. Plastic rots from uv regardless, though not as fast as this...it’s all so brittle after about 10 years and the vinyl on the doors is just unacceptable.
I've seen the way people take care of their cars, and that's key to most, not how they are built. I have had one since 2009, and it looks better than new.
I've got a 2013 GT Premium manual with some weird but cool package I've never been able to identify. I bought it used with 15k miles on it in 2015. It's in Gotta Have it Green with what I'm sure is a California Special spoiler, 19" wheels and a brake package that while not Brembo, isn't Standard for a GT. Also it has what the Ford dealership I purchased it from says is a "Generic Cobra Tune". Everything is factory. I had 2 issues with the car. The first was a crankshaft positioning sensor problem which Ford said was common on the 5.0 engines that were manufactured from 2013-2014 rated at 420hp. The second issue was the compressor for the AC died at 20k miles which they also said was common on 2013-2014 GTs. Good thing I had a warranty! Other than that the car has been problem free and fun as hell! My fiance has another weird Mustang, a 2012 Mustang "Mayhem Edition" which is a 3.7 engine/manual trans with strut tower bracing, GT suspension including GT front and rear stabilizing arms, GT500 rear control arm, 3.31 rear, GT brakes, 19" CS wheels and a few more weird things. She bough it used in 2018 with 57k miles on it and hasn't had any major mechanical issues with it at all. She has the option to run 87 or 93 octane with 93 octane granting her a 7HP boost. I have to run 93 only so it isn't a cheap drive lol. Great video man and the S197 Mustang is really my favorite of any generation, though I love them all...Except those Mustang 2s from the 1970s.
Bought my 06 V6 powered convertible in the beginning of September 2020. It was a 1 owner, with the previous owner being an elderly woman who apparently drove the car sparingly as it showed UNDER 45,000 miles. It wasn't what I was looking for in a Mustang as it had the 4 liter V6 and worse...an automatic transmission. The car is loaded, and even had a satellite radio receiver, tho not activated. The seller (the gentleman who has worked on my cars for more than 10 years) had the door trim panels re-glued prior to the title handover tho as he pointed out the driver's seat leather covering was a bit worn. Problems in the 7 months/2,300 miles since purchase ? The tires on the car when I got it looked brand new but were actually almost 8 years old so I replaced them...big mistake, as they turned out to be that tire manufacturer's worst tires. Then, after a few mornings of hard starts, the battery gave up early one morning. Markings on the battery indicated it may have been more than 3 years old. So far, no detectable water leaks, though I was told it has the original (15 year old) top that is somewhat dirty and frayed at the edges. Probably the biggest issue, and one nearly all if not all these cars have...the paint job and rust. I had a 68 Mercury Cyclone that developed rust in the same place on the front fender tops as this Mustang, so much for progress ? And of course, the chipped paint and corrosion on the aluminum hood. My daily driver is an 09 Crown Victoria which I prefer for most driving as the overall driving balance of the bigger car is just a bit better. However, the Mustang is a fun car for when I want a change. I am considering moving up to a 2014 model, and while I thought that I wanted a V6 with a manual transmission, online comments about the manual make the automatic sound like the more reliable choice. (I have even found what is a newer model of my current car, right down to the gorgeous ruby red paint with caramel leather interior.)

Try and snag a 2014, there’s rumors some of them came with Gen 2 Coyote parts.
And no engine ticking lol
You know the 5.0 wasn’t just in the 13-14 right ??
@@fynpasta313 read the full comment. I am talking specifically about the 13-14 because that’s the years with the last (best) S197 styling. Yes, the 5.0 Coyote is in the 15 - present Mustang GT’s, but those are in the S550 bodies. Of which I could care less for, as they look like a Ford Fusion and Mercedes-Benz had a baby. Much better interior, much better suspension, yes. But the styling does not scream Mustang. Hence why I said, IN MY OPINION, the 13-14 is the best Mustang.
@@noahbolt the coyote starts with 2011 but the 2010 body styling is really close to it.
ITS THE 05-14 NOT JUST 05-09...ASK ME HOW I KNOW
Lol my car leaked on my gfs feet a year ago. Very embarrassing
I had an 06 GT auto for 5 yrs / 98,000 miles. One of the best cars I've ever owned. I changed the tires, fluids and put a battery in it.
Stick shift is better to control the power. Too easy to lose control or get in trouble in an automatic...
@@richarddonegan4666 not really by choice, but i have an auto 06 too. Much easier to get a little squirrely in the rain compared to manual mustangs I've driven
I actually bought a blue 06 GT auto with 98k miles about a week ago
Just got a 2006 GT auto with 207,000. It was clearly well-cared for, and runs like a top. I know with that many miles, it's only a matter of time before some work is required, but it was the best deal we could find, the best overall condition, and we could be sure of the car's history. It's wickedly fast, especially compared to the 95 GT I had before it in my early 20s.
@@ryanbaker7404 how much did you get it for if you don't mind me asking
Those 13-14 headlights and taillights are gorgeous.
I got an 06 with 160k on it and still runs like new
Bought a 14 GT 6-speed manual last week, and I'm still smiling. Impact blue with pypes headers and touring AWE axle-back exhaust. The car is a beast.
Thirteen?? 😳
Longevity and 13 of the same car makes no sense man
06' GT vert here.
The zero to 60 times for those 3.7 V6 is when they came out was ridiculous still holds up today very impressive
Well said
True, I just bought one with 61k on it. This will be my daily driver, not some garage princess. Even if I don't need to go somewhere, I still want to jump in it and just take a drive. The sound and the shifting through gears just doesn't get old. That said, I don't drive that much anymore so the miles won't add up too fast.
My daily 2013 5.0 has almost 50k miles on it and I have had it since 16k miles.
I've had Mt 05 GT for about 15yrs now and running strong. Love my s197
Bro the ac actuator cost $20 and 20 minutes to replace there are tons of videos on how to do it just take out the glove box and unscrew the two screws holding it in
Just now having the issue with the ac actuator, it clicks but still works just waiting for it to break 😅
Yes, rear axle package gives you 4.8sec from 0-60mph that only 0,2sec slower than 412hp coyote.
1997 v8, 205,000 miles, still pushing strong.
Leaking when it rained into the cabin was the worst problem I’ve ever had honestly
Mine has a leak in the trunk in the rear corners. have you come across that?
@@Isaac-od4rm i did

@@Isaac-od4rm yea on my 2014 stang i had a water leak coming in from the tank , the way i figured where it was coming from was to spray the trunk with a hose , once i did that , i seen i had water coming in from the screws that holds into the taillights , they weren’t tight enough so i screw them back tight enough & it worked
I have a 2012 boss 302, best car I've owned 👌
2013 myself, they are awesome cars.
Personally just traded my 2015 v6 mustang for a 2012 mustang gt
Boss 302 is the best S197 ever, and the only car is trade my S550 GT for.
1964-1973 & 2005-2013 best designs for me ❤ gorgeous cars 🤘🏻
Good now.
I own a 2014 Ford Mustang V6 and i gotta say it's my baby!! the mean looking body OMG 😱 best car to have got it at a good price too
I agree. I was about to buy a 2014 v6 but I found a 2011 gt that I liked better. The 2014 body style is definitely my favorite

Yes, they are beautiful
What did the track pack have that year?
@shatangatang it had the BOSS 302 radiator, oil cooler, torsen 3.73 limited slip diff and the swap bars. It was the poor man's BOSS. KEEP ON ROCKING
They're better the the 15 and up bodies as well. Ford should've led with that look. Kinda amazing what just tail lights alone do for that body.
Melted A/C Clutch-covered under warranty
Battery leaking- covered under warranty
The leather accent on the driver side door is starting to peel off
The driver side window makes a loud sound when it closes all the way.
Differential pinion gasket leak
But the biggest problem has been with the MT-82 transmission.
Touch up paint for the hood
I got an 08 two and a half years ago, no major problems, I’ve replaced the alternator once, starter once, replaced the spark plugs and only had one break, fixed a coolant leak from under the intake manifold, and I had to replace one air blend actuator. Other than that, it’s been really good to me!
Sounds like a lot...

Currently I am offshore but in 3 weeks when I get home this project is waiting for me and I found your video very helpful. Thanks bud
06 gt 373 rear gears bama tune and shorty glass packs 155000 mi. Auto transmission. Still runs great 👍
I bought a used 08 S197 with over 109,000 miles on it last year.
I still own my 2007 GT with 275K miles. Still love it.
Wow.
I have a S197 and I Love it and I am IN LOVE WITH IT!
Hi, I'm considering a purchase of one just like this with 99k miles on it. Are you still experiencing good reliability with yours?
2007 V6 176,000m and still fine
In 2019, I bout my 14 5.0. It was always my dream car and my opinion it is the most beautiful car/mustang ever built.
Just bought a 2012 coming from a 2006 and I loved them both!!
My 2013 sometimes experiences lockout between 1st-2nd gear and 2nd-3rd gear when you accelerate above 5k rpms. Otherwise the car is awesome!
It's probably just a synchro it's not that expensive for a shop to fix
I can tell you why, I have a 2014 GT. These shifters don't allow "defelction" under high RPM's. So you have to wait for the trans to move back, to shift. A short throw fixes it, they actually fix it from factory if you replace the clutch. There's a slew of trans and clutch issues with these cars you're going to run into. I just ripped out my trans to replace everything. These issues arnt a "random" car thing either. It's a faulty design and happens to every single car so I'd be ready soon lol
Absolutely a blast to drive, pro tip get a manual, these 4.6 L engines thrive a 3000 + rpms!

The trunk is closed but it says it's open. Otherwise it's a great car. Fun to drive, fairly fast, sounds good and looks great.
2007 ford 4.0 v6, the hardest part of getting a used mustang is maintenance history.
Beaten up fords like any car is unreliable. Timing chains cassettes usually go out between 150-200k miles making a ticking noise
Various leaks mostly coolant and rarely, rear main seal, valve and other various oil gaskets, being severely worn out from prior owners neglecting and abusing the car.
I’ve replaced an engine due to a major coolant failure (thermostat failed) and the main coolant hose blew off the block. Overheating the engine
The donor engine I had, (180k miles)
Has severely worn down timing. Cassettes that had to be replaced
Differential was shot from heavy load and use, parts of the differential was shot out the back lol.
But most of these failures were due to lack of proper maintenance from old owners. ^^^

made this video a little bit after I got mine, already got the leak under the intake manifold fixed, which is from what I've seen a really common coolant leak on this car deleted the plastic elbow (that's what fails and causes the leak) entirely and now it's 2 hose clamps and a hose connecting both ends, shouldn't fail until the hose degrades
I just got a 2014 v6 in June and I love it
Great video.
Same thing happened to me. I just took out those shitty plastic “filter” that let clogging.

Def had to get the rear control arms switched out. Went with bmr.
Problems with my 5th gen is dash gauges not working or reading properly
Randomly overheating from fans not working after chasing down everything I could I tuned the car and it randomly fixed the problem other than that haven’t had much problems mines a 05 GT I do have the tick on start up but not pressed about it hoping to upgrade cams and cam phases this spring and hopefully more stuff as well maybe some forced induction SC or turbo and new gearing maybe 4.10 idk yet though

all cars have issues...if you love your Mustang you just deal with them, the 4.6 cars are far more durable than the 5.0 series, yeah they are faster but Ford rushed that into production so it was prone to head gasket and tranny issues.

as a mustang lover who bought his first mustang in 2008, I had a 1999 4.6 2v and I can tell you it really lacked power+horrible interior and I had cheap bolts on such LT headers, BBK CAI, no cats and end up with 235rwhp and sold it in in 2011 and don't remember how many miles but it had a lot even when I bought it
then bought a 2006 4.6 3v plastic interior but still loved it this model is pretty amazing cuz performance parts are still cheap and gives a better result than the 2v plus you can find any parts used for cheap I bought a full Vortech V-3 Si Supercharger kit used for 2600 USD with installation and tune "benefits of joining mustang forums and Instagram" at 7psi I had a decent 412rwhp with full bolts on, I started at 260rwhp stock I believe and sold it 2017 for a decent price which I couldn't pass, the car had 167k miles
in 2017 finally bought a 2011 stang which I had to wait until they become cheaper, rubber, plastic, and fake chrome but interior-wise pretty sweet especially the heated seat, performance-wise legit an amazing car with so much power but performance parts cost almost double the 3v even used and keep their value as they are always in demand, I have almost full bolts-on and got to 433rwhp on pump gas

Its the blend door actuators. Theres 3 on the passenger side and 1 on the driver side behind the gauge cluster.
I have a 2006 legend lime mustang and it keeps me busy 🤧 but it’s also modified so that could be a factor
Lol "this is a 30k interior in a 20k car" Yeah I laugh at that....because it sure as hell didn't hold up today. Anything chrome bubbles, Vinyl wrap on doors comes apart, Leather seats tear easily, quality of the plastics feel cheap.
i know alot of people who have it in pristine condition... you need to look after it better maybe or you have defective parts which isnt rare
@SAVANNAH BROWN 😂
my 08 4.0 manual pony package has been flawless.but i dont push it that hard either.i could never get 28-30 highway milage out of the gt.
The brakes may be the S550 brakes, and CS spoilers are quite a common upgrade as they’re damn good looking spoilers.
Had a 2005 v6 for 5 years great car, only problem was the noise suspension
