This was the first con I went to in a long long while. It was a very fulfilling experience and so very worth it to just meet up with all my friends. I was that Utsuho in camo, that whole get up was heavy as hell but it was 1000% worth it. Hope to see everyone again next year!
Donut Kanako here. Thank You Suwawako for the shout-out. Less than a month before TouhouFest, your channel start popping up in my UA-cam feed. Some of your videos are great to get Touhou newcomers a quick digest. When I read your Tweet during breakfast haul, I felt helping you to get a taste of your desire early is more important than being Suwako as planned. Sorry for making you nervous at first, but I'm glad you had a lasting memory at the end. 30:16-30:21 I plan to retire from cosplaying in the near future, even though it is one of my favorite pastimes. You made a great TouhouFest Recap video. Looking forward to your future videos and see you outfit when it comes to fruit.
It was extraordinarily nice to attend and I had one of the best experiences in my life! Judging from how many recaps people are making, it seems others feel the same as well. I'm glad you could come and I even think I took a few pictures of/with you, even though I didn't know it was you at the time. Anyways, I think YT auto-deletes comments with links in them these days, so posting this once again - I was the Merry violinist who performed first solo on Sat (this footage is just of practice though ;-;) and then with TAM! It was truly a dream come true for me and the culmination of over 7 years of anticipation. I've uploaded the full vid of my performance w/ TAM on my channel as of last week. Thanks so so much for featuring me!!!
I am the person you met with the TouhouCon bag. I didn't know about your channel prior to Touhoufest but it was a pleasure to meet you. Per our small conversation I will share my experiences at TouhouCon 2014, TouhouCon 2015, and TouhouFest. To say in advance that even though some parts may sound negative, I genuinely enjoyed all of them. The eleven years that I have been interested in Touhou, I am the only person between my family, co-workers, and close friends that is interested in it. All these conventions gave me the chance to experience it with others. TouhouCon 2014 I was able to plan months in advance for it finding a close hotel and paying the $20 early bird two day pass. I was one the first people there so I didn't have to wait in line. Pocky was one of the sponsors and they provided some free Pocky to each attendee each day. My two goals for the event was to partake in the tournaments and see how many different Touhou characters were being cosplayed. In my prior experience at AnimeExpo I saw a total of 6 different Touhou characters and I was hoping that this event would provide more variety. I had fun in the tournaments but lost in the prelimaries. I was still relatively new to Touhou as I first started playing in 2012. They were streaming all of the tournaments to Twitch and one of my matches ended up on there (embarrassingly). They had a technical issue and had my name messed up in their registry. Another issue that they had was that the power went out for while they were running a League of Legends tournament. I showed up to the convention with a list of the Touhou characters and I made a mark next to the ones that saw cosplayed. I currently can't find that list but I don't think I threw it away. I will either find it one of these years by accident or it ended up in Gensokyo. I believe I saw somewhere between 30 to 40 different Touhou characters. I didn't bother to see any of the panels (they just aren't my thing) and headed back to my hotel room to do college work. I didn't bother either to stay for the "Saturday Night Fever (18+) dance/gathering". The next morning I used the hotel internet to see what people were posting and it looked people had a good time. There was however a video of a Byakuren cosplayer that I saw at the convention. That video had that person and someone else performing activities on a bed that I don't think Byakuren would approve of. Also I saw through tweets that one of the Guests of honor either Okageo or Junkers (don't know which one) had some of their items damaged by staff security. Apparently a staff member got access to their room and held a rambunctios party. I spent the second day watching the tournaments, buying some merch, and talked and shook hands with someone who was working on a Touhou themed Smash game (I won't go into details about what happened to that mess as I think Suwawako might have made a video about it already). TouhouCon 2015 Same thing as TouhouCon 2014 in that I planned in advance and got the early bird three day pass (it was somewhere between $20 to $30). I was still in college and didn't have any problems being there on a Friday. Pocky was still being given out and I had additional goals besides my prior two. There were three concerts that were going to happen and I wanted to see at least two of them (TAM & Akai Ryuusei both performed on Friday and the singer from Yuuhei Satellite performed on Saturday) I ended up seeing all three of them and bought music cds. The convention was near DisneyLand so after the concerts where finished you can see fireworks outside. The other new goal was that offical copies of the Touhou games were being sold by the president of Reitaisai so I made sure to buy a few. First day of tournaments and there were technical difficulties, not everything was setup before hand and the hotel wasn't providing internet to anyone (not even the staff of the event). As a result many tournaments were delayed which caused a few of the participants to leave. Because of this the matches couldn't be streamed either. The PoFV tournament only had about 20 participants after that. I had no problems waiting for them and ended up placing third in the PoFV tournament only losing to first place and second place. I got better at the game and the person who got second complemented the way I played Sakuya. My reward for third place was about the equivalent of $20 of Steam Keys and an email congratulating me. Someone who cosplayed as Yoshika Miyako got first place in one of the tournaments and won a hover board. The next day they were riding it around the hotel with their arms in front them zombie posed. In those three days I saw a total of 74 different Touhou characters. I had a wonderful time at the convention but using the internet at my hotel room I can see that people had mixed opinions of the event. One problem was that security was overcompensating for prior year and were very strict. During the performances people were allowed to record the events but security was telling people not to. After the convention I found out that the organizers made promises that they couldn't keep which became a burden for the guests of honor and others. They later made a video announcing that they will work out the problems and that they are considering having a TouhouCon 2016 (I believe that video is gone). TouhouFest 2023 TouhouFest, unlike the two TouhouCons was held in April instead of September. This is a challenge for me because the most stressful part of my job is from January through mid April which doesn't give much time to handle other things. I had no idea that TouhouFest 2023 was going to happen until Megapig9001 did a stream in March (I found his channel and stream by pure luck). I decided to book a hotel for the two day event and and paid the $60 for the event (too late for the $40 early bird special). My three goals were to partake in the PoFV tourney, see different cosplayed characters, and watch TAM's performance again. The tournament recomended for people to preregister with an online account. I did so and the tournament then suggested that people should keep track of the results by looking online while at the convention. I informed the organizer that my mobile internet is unreliable and he said he will have a wireless access point available. I didn't show up super early so I had to wait in line. When I got my attendee badge I saw that they made a mistake on my name (nothing new at this point). I then rushed to the game haul because I was in the first wave of tournament and didn't want to be late. As Suwawako said they had technical difficulties and the tournaments were delayed. My internet wasn't working properly so I asked the staff about the internet and told that it was for staff only (this is still better than what happened in TouhouCon 2015 and there were no power outages which is better than TouhouCon 2014). I think these issues might be a reason why only parts of the tournaments were streamed. I then spent my time prior the tournament trying to help staff with keyboard issues. When the tourmanet began I had a good time and went 4 wins and 2 losses which dropped me out of the tournament. I ended up losing to the people that got second and third place out of 30 (congratulations to them, they certainly earned it). One of my matches was against Suwako and it was fun match. My internet still had problems throughout the entirety of the convention and my hotel room, which was a bit of a walk compared my other two, did not provide free internet (my fault for quickly booking a room). I left the convention early because I didn't want to be walking the streets at night. I ended up seeing 61 different Touhou characters being cosplayed which is great for a two day event. Day two I bought music from TAM before the concert as I figured the line would be crazy afterwards. I enjoyed the concert and as Suwawako stated there were problems with the speakers. I then and headed back to home before LA traffic became too bad (still a four hour drive). I figured that they will have the tournments streamed and that I could watch the results afterwards. When I got home I noticed that my tournament results were off and I asked the person that I actually lost to (not the person that the online results said I lost to) about match events which confirmed that there is an error on in the online brackets. I messaged the orginazer that Sunday night and Tuesday morning I was told that he will inform the person that was running that section of the tournament. As of writing this comment that part of the bracket is still incorrect. I told Suwawako in advance that if I made this comment it would be extremely long (maybe too long). I enjoyed all of them and my personal rankings would be TouhouCon 2015 > TouhouFest 2023 > TouhouCon 2014. If the people who organize TouhouFest 2023 continue to keep their promises (unlike TouhouCon) I can see them doing bigger and better next time.
Historian vibes 🫠🫠🫠 Touhoufest 2024 will either be better than Touhoucon 2015 or worse than 2014 -- no in between, just watch... Good games for the Sakuya vs Merlin match too! You won fair and square (totally, maybe, kinda.) Now I think about it, if I decide to remake my Touhoucon video, would you like to be apart of it?
@@Suwawako Good games indeed. Funny thing though is that of one the people I won against was the other Sakuya player you played which resulted in a Sakuya mirror match. At TouhouCon I didn't partake in any of the panels and didn't spend much time in the merch sections so a lot of my knowledge of stuff is limited. I felt more like an old man explaining past memories in my posted comment. I do ,however, still have all the program guides and schedule sheets from both TouhouCons so I can send you pictures of those if you want.
this is my first con i have actually been to and it was worth it and got to meet new people, i was that miko cosplayer with the black helmet, black goggles and more hope to see you guys in touhoufest 2024
It's hard to go in person because I live in a far country, but it looks fantastic just by looking at the video! Because of the open atmosphere of the United States, there are various cosplays and everyone looks happy! If I go on a trip to the US in the future, I really want to go there. (Maybe I can see you there:>)
It's so awesome getting to see all these positive interactions going on, both in the video and in the comments here! I've had run-ins with other Touhou fans within online games I play, and its always a great experience; they're some of the most chill internet denizens I've met. I'm not sure what it is about it, but there's something about the bond that we share as Touhou fans that instantly brings us together. Just as Lyrica and Lori-hime sing in what is perhaps my favorite cover if theirs, "when the world feels wrong, [we] can turn towards this one that's been with [us] all along," ZUN really has made something that can unite people all over the world.
CodyYuki had a donation contest between Hakurei Shrine and Moriya shrine. On the second day Hakurei got 7$ while Moriya got 3$. Guess where 5 of those dollars came from.
The touhou fandom is the nicest least toxic fandom I've ever seen and I love it the my first exposure to touhou was in 2020 though the music i never regretted joining this fandom
Same here, I joined the fandom super recently being in 2022/2023, and unlike a whole lot of communities, this is such a nice friendly community, and I like it here so far
I completely wasn't aware of this event until I saw Megapig's video which mentioned you, and I followed your comment which led to this video... Thank you very much for sharing the footages from the event, it had excited something within my heart but I'm sure I'll be too shy to attend the event as a sneaky visitor. Thanks for creating this vid and letting us experience the con this way! Looks like you had lots of fun!! Maybe, if I'll travel to the US some time in the future, I can attend as well ❤

Oh my goodness, hearing your closing thoughts at the end, I thought I was gonna start tearing up too. That was beautiful. TouhouFest 2023 was magical. I’ve been to handful of conventions before, but I never felt that strong sense of togetherness that I did here. There’s a lot of things I wish I’d done at the con (like getting that pin! How did I miss that?!), but it only gets me more excited for next year. It was an honor and a pleasure to meet you and all the guests there, get out in my Sekibanki getup, and make some memories that are definitely going to last. Here’s to TouhouFest 2024! Hope I’ll get to see you there again!
A great way to re-experience this fun event. (And trigger my Chen Honk ptsd.) It was fun meeting you there as well…and no I still won’t tell what camera lense I use (jk I know I already told you)
I hope another touhoufest happens next year so I can actually go their by the way as well as hopefully be able to cosplay as Fujiwara no Mouku due to her being a tomboy when it comes to clothing as far as I can tell.😅🥰👍🏻
A while back a raffle was held for free tickets to Touhoufest and I won, but two days before event a family emergency sprung up so I decided not to go. Here's hoping to Touhoufest 2024.
Thank you for telling us about your experiences! Cause although I could never have dreamed of going there this year, seeing you and everyone having tons of fun with the stuff they love just made watch the whole video with a big dumb smile on my face... Hope that event keeps going on for many years to come so more people can go too! Love from Brazil
I didn’t go, but I can tell from this video it was an amazing experience. It brings me joy to see other people living their lives to the fullest, and I’m hoping I’m able to see you in 2024!
21:56 speaking of that meguca magica reference, have you ever watched madoka magica and would you cover the fan game greif syndrome that was made by twilight frontier (yes the one who make the touhou fighting games)? if you haven't watched the show it's start of cute and mysterous the episode 3 hits
Goodness seeing stuff like this makes me wish I could live near LA so I could go to Touhoufest hhhhhhhhhhhh (I live on the east coast) I'm glad everyone had fun though! Maybe I'll try to work out a way for me to somehow go next year even though I am (and still will be then) a teenager, though probably not Kinda just hoping that maybe someday there'll be a Touhou convention in NYC or somewhere on the east coast, because I would certainly attend then. It all seems so fun!
I almost went, but I was unsure of myself so didn't go, but after this video I feel so warm and inspired I really want to go next year. I hope I can do a really faithful and accurate byakuren cosplay.
I never really get to attend fests or conventions due to stuff like time and money, but at least we got to see it through your eyes Maybe i’ll be able to attend 2024 or not, who knows
Your the person who made me want to cosplay and you did it I going to cosplay at a Hong Kong anime expo called acghk I thank you for everything I going as yoshika again thank you thank you for being my inspiration
I've never played any of the games or bought anything Touhou related (yet), but this whole video was so much fun and it feels almost unreal to see all this stuff IRL, in the US.
I was also really pleasantly surprised by how well the event was run for a first time. Hopefully the staff can continue growing and developing it slowly and carefully!
Dam didn't reliaze you were 17 doing all this stuff hey I have fun waching your video when come out regardless. One of these day I need to play touhou game though I kinda been putting it off because work well painting battletech mintures. XD
Its good to see western Touhou conventions are still alive and well! TAM still rocking the music scene too. And as always, the Touhou community is a small world. People still recognizing Spaz and HTF makes me smile.

31:03 OKINA COSPLAYER SPOTTED!!! Fucking legendddddd
I'm ready for round 2.
im from mexico!! so ive always wanted to assist touhoufest, is nice seeing some insight of how it is here
This was the first con I went to in a long long while. It was a very fulfilling experience and so very worth it to just meet up with all my friends. I was that Utsuho in camo, that whole get up was heavy as hell but it was 1000% worth it. Hope to see everyone again next year!
Your cosplay was great! okuu is cute and epic
Thank you so much for coming! It was super fun meeting you! And i hope to see you again next year!! ❤
LAlalalalalalalaaaaaaa~~
@@Suwawako I wanted to add at 5:08 the shoe squeaks absolute killed me lmao everytime i watch it i giggle for a minute
I was the Remilia at the closing ceremony dancing like a lunatic
I feel like it was such a missed chance to have a Mystia Izakaya themed restaurant that the convention. What a shame.
Still happy of the fact that I got to hold your suwako Fumo and meet my moriya shrine family in the fest.
OH GOD THE HONKING I WILL NEVER UNHEAR IT
I am the person you met with the TouhouCon bag.
TouhouCon 2014
I was able to plan months in advance for it finding a close hotel and paying the $20 early bird two day pass.
TouhouCon 2015
Same thing as TouhouCon 2014 in that I planned in advance and got the early bird three day pass (it was somewhere between $20 to $30).
TouhouFest 2023
TouhouFest, unlike the two TouhouCons was held in April instead of September.
Historian vibes 🫠🫠🫠
Touhoufest 2024 will either be better than Touhoucon 2015 or worse than 2014 -- no in between, just watch...
Good games for the Sakuya vs Merlin match too! You won fair and square (totally, maybe, kinda.)
Now I think about it, if I decide to remake my Touhoucon video, would you like to be apart of it?
@@Suwawako Good games indeed. Funny thing though is that of one the people I won against was the other Sakuya player you played which resulted in a Sakuya mirror match. At TouhouCon I didn't partake in any of the panels and didn't spend much time in the merch sections so a lot of my knowledge of stuff is limited. I felt more like an old man explaining past memories in my posted comment. I do ,however, still have all the program guides and schedule sheets from both TouhouCons so I can send you pictures of those if you want.
this is my first con i have actually been to and it was worth it and got to meet new people, i was that miko cosplayer with the black helmet, black goggles and more
hope to see you guys in touhoufest 2024
Can't get enough with that chen's honk
Thank you for coming out to Touhoufest! I was the Koishi cosplayer. It was amazing meeting you! Thanks for putting me in the video!
i was in the background of some of these clips, im glad i got to attend touhoufest! ^^
HI
It's hard to go in person because I live in a far country, but it looks fantastic just by looking at the video! Because of the open atmosphere of the United States, there are various cosplays and everyone looks happy! If I go on a trip to the US in the future, I really want to go there.
(Maybe I can see you there:>)
Yes you will come
It's so awesome getting to see all these positive interactions going on, both in the video and in the comments here!
That was the most beautiful video you created thank you so much
CodyYuki had a donation contest between Hakurei Shrine and Moriya shrine. On the second day Hakurei got 7$ while Moriya got 3$. Guess where 5 of those dollars came from.
LOL
one of the best communities out there, seems so fun (also rip to the crashed fd3s)
Hiii! Classical plus size Mima & Medicine from the second last clip here!! Awesome video, we're glad to be in it!
14:41 so true
I completely wasn't aware of this event until I saw Megapig's video which mentioned you, and I followed your comment which led to this video... It's nice to see a bunch of notable names popping up in the comment section AND actually attended this event! Thank you very much for sharing the footages from the event, it had excited something within my heart but I'm sure I'll be too shy to attend the event as a sneaky visitor. It's just heartwarming to see people being there and having fun with a common thing that is Touhou!!!
Where is TouhouFest 2024? Will it come to the East Coast some day?
The same place
@@Suwawako Aww man! Thank you for the response.
no puedo esperar a que pasen como 8 años y ver este video con nostalgia x,d
1:42 ah yes, my favorite touhou character
8:00 Also the fact that literal El Macho is dressed as Patchouli gives me more confidence to cosplay lol
gotta love how 80% of touhou cosplayers are male💀
Lol
happens
Damn i would have loved to go but living in Iceland it makes things difficult.
I am so alone here!!!!
Thanks for creating this vid and letting us experience the con this way! Looks like you had lots of fun!! Maybe, if I'll travel to the US some time in the future, I can attend as well ❤
I’m planning on going next year, and filming my whole trip and calling it “TouhouFest Shenanigans”
Man, I wish I could've gone. Too bad I live in Montana.
It must've been awesome! I will go in the future..
I really wanna go to a touhoufest but sadly i live pretty much far away even tho i wanna go there a hella lot, so thanks for showing me how great and wholesome it is as i know i'd probably never be able to go there, and by the way you made me frickin cry in the end lol. I say thanks again for showing me the good amount of wholesome stuff that happens there!!
I never got to attend. So I am blessed to experience the con through your eyes. You make this community proud to be a Touhou fan! I hope to see you next year! Thanks for being you, Suwawako!
oh Hey!! I absolutely love your Pokémon styled remixes!! As a fan of both franchises, your work doesn't go unnoticed! :)
I didn't know how eurobeat concert would look like. Thank you. Now I can die in peace
Hope I’ll get to see you there again!
seeing myself several times in the background was nice.
Forget tomboys. Cosplay as anyone you want.
After all, they say that sometimes it takes a real man to be best girl.
A while back a raffle was held for free tickets to Touhoufest and I won, but two days before event a family emergency sprung up so I decided not to go. Here's hoping to Touhoufest 2024.
TouhouFest was an actual world class event! Wish I got to meet you though
i'm so jealous
maybe next time i'll show up
I really liked the PC98 reimu vs Windows reimu fight XDDDDDDDDDDD
man, i wish i didnt live so far from this
Thank you for telling us about your experiences! Cause although I could never have dreamed of going there this year, seeing you and everyone having tons of fun with the stuff they love just made watch the whole video with a big dumb smile on my face... Hope that event keeps going on for many years to come so more people can go too! Love from Brazil
Muito gusto
Great vid! Really wish I could've gone, this looked super fun!
HIII I’m the marisa cosplayer at 7:35 (@sunnysiddedup) !! I didn’t realize it was u at the time HAHA!!! I’m so glad you had a good time at the con!!
u broke into our hearts
im sad bc i live on the other side of the country and my parents would probs never let me go but im glad you and so many others had fun
Aww man, I didn't even know you were there! I would've loved to come say hi. I did remember seeing your hat though!
i am so jealous i am crying
Me too
i wish i would go 🙁🙁 that looks so fun....
I wish I had known about this, I would have gone to check it out
I didn’t go, but I can tell from this video it was an amazing experience. It brings me joy to see other people living their lives to the fullest, and I’m hoping I’m able to see you in 2024!
Ah damn i wish i had run into you at the event i was looking for other UA-camrs for both days.
I was completely bankrupt as soon as i got home
Holy shit I was the knight thank you so much for putting me in!!!!!
Man I wish I was there, hopefully next year 🤞🤞🤞🤞I hope
21:56 speaking of that meguca magica reference, have you ever watched madoka magica and would you cover the fan game greif syndrome that was made by twilight frontier (yes the one who make the touhou fighting games)?
if you haven't watched the show it's start of cute and mysterous the episode 3 hits
Thanks for documenting this con. Hopefully I can attend at some point, looked like a lot of fun.
Goodness seeing stuff like this makes me wish I could live near LA so I could go to Touhoufest hhhhhhhhhhhh (I live on the east coast)
I'm glad everyone had fun though! Maybe I'll try to work out a way for me to somehow go next year even though I am (and still will be then) a teenager, though probably not
Kinda just hoping that maybe someday there'll be a Touhou convention in NYC or somewhere on the east coast, because I would certainly attend then. It all seems so fun!
I wish it wouldn't have been so far away from me, I hope something like this will be in europe some time in the future.
i wish something like this existed in germany since the touhou fans over here are scarce((((
oh well, maybe one day in the future
awesome video! Makes me miss going to cons
i was at touhou fest, i was dressed up as suwako on day 1 2024
I almost went, but I was unsure of myself so didn't go, but after this video I feel so warm and inspired I really want to go next year. I hope I can do a really faithful and accurate byakuren cosplay.
I never really get to attend fests or conventions due to stuff like time and money, but at least we got to see it through your eyes
Maybe i’ll be able to attend 2024 or not, who knows
Hey pal, it's 2024, you going this year?
Yo! I was Okuu (The regular one) in Touhoufest (Even Dark Youmu) and it was great seeing you in person!
i wish i would be an adult or an teenager to come here.but i cant :')
damn
i love that Chen honk moments
God i love this community with all my heart and more , got me through my toughest times and i owe everything to you guys
This was the best con I've been to in years and I'm excited for the next one :D
01:12. Nice music. Cars 2 the game was goated my guy.
I knew this happened but yknow living in Germany doesnt really give me the chance to attend these so I enjoy and am grateful for these videos!
XD
Is fun to see that some cosplayers that appear in this video, was on the AX Touhou gathering with me :33
Its good to see western Touhou conventions are still alive and well! TAM still rocking the music scene too.
And as always, the Touhou community is a small world. People still recognizing Spaz and HTF makes me smile.
maaan it do be sad you didnt show the rest of the artist gallery room, or mention that YUUTO ICHIKA KILLED EVERYONE IN THE RIVALS OF AETHER TOURNAMENT
BREAD BOYS IS IN TOUHOU FEST? DAM DIDNT KNOW BREAD BOY REALLY LIKE TOUHOU
HELP MY FRIEND (the cirno) WAS IN THE BACKRPUNF 8:20
Bro I saw you there too lol. I thought I was tripping too since I was high off an edible
I was following the event on social media, but didn't realised it was such a success!
