Tip for an amazing first in a series. Hild by Nicola Griffith. Perfect book if you like historical fiction that reads like fantasy and is completely immersive. So many readers of this book said they cried at the end of this because they didn’t want it to end. The second book though different is equally amazing, moving and I would say this series is as good as the Dreaming of. I hope you read them!
Yes, Assassin’s Apprentice ❤ I read all 16 books back-to-back, I was also addicted. Loved Hunger of the Gods (I need to re read soon). Game of Thrones, big yes! Empire of the Vampire was a surprise for me as I wasn’t expecting to love it so much, plus I learned some new swear words 😂. The Silence of the Girls was an excellent story, so well crafted and a 5* for me. Thanks for the other recommendations, my TBR has grown again!
Just finished RoTE. Also back to back in 5.5 months. 😂 And now I’m going for Red Rising next. Hoping it doesn’t continuously break my heart like Fitz. 😅
2:25 Orka is my literal favorite character of all time I just absolutely love her fierce need to protect her son and also she’s a mom but can still literally whoop anyone’s ass any day of the week lol I love her so muchhhh
I've been meaning to get into The Winter King. I started it on Kindle a while back and was blown away by how well it was written. But somehow I did not continue and focused on other books. Now, with autumn/winter ahead of us I am planning on reading the trilogy. I did get the Audible version but returned it due to it having too long "chapters". Like 2-3 hours long. I usually listen to audiobooks in bed and tend to fall asleep. So I prefer it if it is served in smaller chunks 😂 But I think I'll get the physical copy sometime soon and then start the journey.
I very much agree with your first pick, gents! In fact, I agree so much that I'm planning to reread it soon, taking motivation from the read along happening on your Discord. 😁Some other great picks here too!
That’s wonderful news! We’d love to see your thoughts in virtual real-time as you read through Shadow again! Very excited to see what you think of Fury 😊 Ed
17:54 oh gosh. Reading AssApp right now. Still have 1/4 left. I feel awful that I’m not loving it yet 😞 BUT I am committed to the full trilogy and Liveship. Gonna read Children of Gods and Fighting Men soon (in other videos) bc of your recommendation and of course can’t wait to binge the full Shadow of the Gods trilogy soon 😁
AssApp is definitely a phrase that will catch on 😅 it’s definitely a slow burner! Will is a die-hard Hobb fan so hopefully you enjoy the next one! Hope you love Shadow when you get to it 😊 Ed
Boys! For the books I’ve read (including Papa Gwynne) HARD AGREE across the board. I’m actually reading We Are the Dead as we speak. For the books I haven’t read, better believe they’re all on the TBR. Great video guys, thank you.🎉
I loved David Gemmel as a kid. I remember when I find out the the post apocalypse world with guns was the same world as one with Roman gods. Bloodstones!
I have just added so many to my wishlist! I finished Dreaming The Eagle a couple of weeks ago and I absolutely loved it, I can't wait to read the next one. Being from Colchester it was especially good. I just have the last one of the wolf den to read, also adore that series. Love Bloodsworn 😊 I have so many series to start and to finish, who doesn't love a series?!
Great video! My nominations for best first books in a series are below. I personally think a good first book in a series can read as a self contained story. 1. The Fifth Season by N.K Jemisin - just such a STRONG book that hits you like an avalanche. The sequels couldn’t really do the first book justice but it’s worth a read. 2. Hyperion by Dan Simmons - a Classic SF that is really mind blowing considering when it was written. A perfect book that frankly didn’t even need the sequels IMO. 3. Perdido Street Station by China Mieville. - Just a weird, fascinating, gross and beautiful novel with some of the strangest world building I’ve ever read, yet with a real line into our real world problems and reality. 4. Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennet - what a fun ride, could have been standalone and I would’ve been satisfied, great magic system too. 5. Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City by KJ Parker - Seiges! Trebuchets! Untrustworthy narrators! It has it all.
@thebrothersgwynne As I'm almost out of Christopher Ruocchio's, The Sun Eater series to gobble up... I will highly recommend, btw... because Roman's in Space!... I am not sure when I can dive into those two books, though. I'm preparing to begin a new preK school year and preparing our classroom for the little students' first day next week! I'm committed to buddy reading this book, you may have heard of... Shadow of the Gods 😃📖. As of September 1st, my reading will be lit with the world of The Bloodsworn, and I'm very excited.
Did not like Red Rising and just finished Golden Son. They did not feel right, dialogue heavy, maybe better consumed in Audiobook. Every page just had characters talking non-stop. I prefer a bit more introspection, walking in their shoes as a 1st person perspective. Onto We Are The Dead now, feels much better.

Wow that is some serious dedication! I do miss binging a whole series. Hahah Jay Kristoff has the best swearing. Thanks for watching!

Finished the Warlord Chronicles earlier this year. Nothing will ever beat the epic feeling of Derfel first hearing that war horn come to save him...
I know the exact moment! Absolutely incredible.

2:25 Orka is my literal favorite character of all time I just absolutely love her fierce need to protect her son and also she’s a mom but can still literally whoop anyone’s ass any day of the week lol I love her so muchhhh
She’s the best isn’t she! So glad you loved her. She’s also terrifying 😂
Ed

I just read Shadow of the gods last week, and OMG, how good it was! I am gonna read #2 the week before 3 comes out. Can not wait.
So glad that you loved Shadow! Who was your favourite PoV? Perfect timing before Fury is released…
Will
I was drawn in when I saw Assassin’s Apprentice in here. Great video, just subbed!
Robin Hobb is just incredible! I’ll be rereading Realm of the Elderlings soon… hope you enjoy the channel!

The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson but I absolutely love any 1st book in a series by the legendary Papa Gwynne!!!
Truth and Courage!!!
Tempted to try WoK soon!

Loved the Terror,what a terrific book.❤
Thank you! Added a few to my list.
Ed
Were you guys 💨🍀? lol. Awesome video
Afraid not 😅
Ed
Lot of great booooooks. A bunch I need to get into-Bernard Cornwell and Mike shackle I think are at the top of that list for me
Ahhh they are both so good! Hope you pick their works up :).
Will
Weeelllll it gets a lot of stick and certainly has flaws, but I can’t not say Eye of the World, seeing as it is the start of my favourite series!
Thanks guys...i just added 7 of these! 😅😂😂
Our work here is done!
Ed
The Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams is the best book 1 I've read. A Game of Thrones, and Ship of Magic are close too.
I need to reread The Dragonbone Chair! A Game of Thrones is incredible, and I need to read Ship of Magic.
Will
The brother reunited! Now that Ed is returned from his freelance military campaigns!
Hahaha exactly!
Will
I’ve read 11 of these🎉🎉
Wow, we have similar taste!
Will
... We are the Dead is sounding more and more interesting... as well as The Wolf Den.🤔📚📚📚📚📚📚📚🥰
Pleaseee pick them both up!!

Have you guys ever read any books by Michael Moorcock. Recommended
We have not! Definitely intend to though :).

I agree about Ned Stark. Lol
Hahah poor Ned.
Will
No "All the pretty horses"? No "Fellowship of the ring"? Come on guys :)
It was close to including both of them! I was thinking you’d mention ATPH! 😅
Ed
