I made the mistake of starting this video on my phone while driving home. I had to pull over because I couldn’t see through the tears. You Gwynnes are an inspiration. Thank you so much for being such a beautiful family, and for sharing that beauty with us through story.
Hearing Papa Gwynne talk about grief is exactly why I believe I love all his writings. My wife and I lost our son last January 2023, and honestly, I agree with you. The worst part for our grief is in the silence. Thank you, John, for all your books. The Faithful and the Fallen helped me get through the first parts of my grief. Your series was the first adult fantasy I had ever read and I picked it up about 2 months after he passed. My sons name was Jonathan. ❤
I just want to express my gratitude to papa Gwynne. It must have been so difficult to write this book for us after your family tragedy. The fact that you managed to sit down and write anything at all is a massive inspiration. I am majorly looking forward to reading the book. Truth and courage.
Thank you so much for your kind words. It was incredibly difficult to even get to the stage where he was ready to write. Really hope you love Fury when you get to reading it. Truth and courage. Ed
I’m so enraptured by the positive masculinity and vulnerability on display here. My deepest sympathy to you all, as well as my greatest admiration for the way that you handle yourselves. Without getting too deep in a UA-cam comment, I’ve also been unfortunate enough to lose an immediate family member, and sadly some of my family did not treat each other with the grace and kindness that is on display in this video. You should be very proud of yourselves and your family ❤ P.S. Can’t wait for Fury, and will be at the London event!
Thank you for the kind words mate and we are really sorry to hear that you have also lost a loved one. It's such an impossibly tough situation and to go through it without family to lean on must have been even more horrendous. So sorry. Looking forward to meeting you in London! Ed
The beginning of this video shows everything you need to know about what kind of man and therefore what kind of author your father is. Thank you for the kind words and his answer to my question is actually perfect because he’s not crafting a woman, he’s crafting a person. Absolutely wonderful video, so insightful into both his ability as one of the best writers in the genre and also into his soul. Thank you all so much for sharing such a tender video and I wish you all as much peace as the universe can offer with everything you’re going through. ❤
I love the point about female characters, especially within a fantasy series. It's hard to pinpoint why John Gwynne's writing is so effective (I often stutter in my videos when trying to figure out how to describe my love) but the humanity and respect he gives each character is definitely authentic and downright touching. Sending love to you all.
I'm in my 40s and never enjoyed reading. I've only read 2 books cover to cover in my life until now. I came across Shadow of the gods and figured I'd try one more time..wow. I've now completed both bloodsworn and pre ordered the 3rd and I'm also finishing Ruin. This is the first time in my life that I can't wait to read more. New to you guys but I love learning about other books I might try. Thanks to your Dad I have a whole new world of entertainment. Tell him to never stop writing.
So much Love and Respect to you, John - the vulnerability and raw openness and grace you show are rare indeed. I feel grateful for being enfolded by your sweet and loving family for the duration of this interview. I love your books, and I send so much love to your family in your days to come..
I’m a huge fan of your works, Sir Gwynnes, but what truly makes me proud to support you, Papa Gwynne is how deeply you honor your blessings and the people you love. The beauty of having a good woman by your side and bringing three wonderful souls into the world is what makes you a person of great character. Not enough men like you out there, and I truly appreciate the effort you’ve put into creating more of that goodness in this world. Your sons reflect those same values, and it's a testament to the solid foundation you’ve built. I was heartbroken to hear of your loss. I can’t even begin to imagine losing one of my three beautiful children. It weighs on me especially now, with my youngest, Ruth, having her upcoming medical appointments next week. We’ll be finding out what procedures she might need for her kidney. It terrifies me, but as her father, I know how blessed I am to have her mother and siblings by my side as we walk this path together. I’m also fortunate to live in a place where we can access the care she needs, just an hour’s drive away. It reminds me things could always be worse. You’ve shown me how to carry on, how to honor the memories of those who have passed while cherishing the ones who remain. Thank you for that, and for the values you continue to bring into the world through your stories. Godspeed and blessings to you and your family. This fan will forever treasure your work and the values you stand for.
Had no idea you were his sons and I didn’t even really consider these books until now but something about seeing this personal side of you all has really made me want to read them. Thanks for this video and please keep the videos up.
My new favorite author. I've absolutely destroyed the first two books and just pre-ordered Fury at my local bookstore. Just survived two major hurricanes within 3 weeks here in S.W. Florida, lost my car, lost power and internet, and thank the Gods I have the Bloodsworn to escape my reality!
Just like Papa Gwynne's books, this chat was an absolute emotional rollercoaster in the best way possible. Thank you for sharing the love with us, both through the videos here and through the stories from the Papa; your family are a blessing to this world. Loved hearing all the answers to the fun questions. And oooh now I am so excited to get back into Bloodsworn again, bring on the epicness 🤩
I couldn't make it five minutes before you guys had me tearing up. And I'm so glad you kept Mama coming in. Just beautiful to see you guys together and talking through the pain of the past few years. I appreciate you guys being willing to give us all a small glimpse of that and you as a family. The Shadow of the Gods was the first book I picked up about 2 years ago after a VERY long reading hiatus. I couldn't have chosen a better book to revitalize my love for reading, and to serve as inspiration for my own writing journey. The heartbreak that Papa Gwynne has gone through, and then when I heard the news he was writing again, has given me hope to push through my own pain in my life. I don't know if he'll read all these comments, but thank you, sir... so so much for being an amazing author and inspiring strength and courage in me. And I'm willing to bet many others can say the same. Overall, this was absolutely delightful. Thanks for hosting this, and thanks Papa Gwynne for taking the time to share with us!
Such an inspirational bunch. The Gwynnes are a true definition of family, Massive respect to you all. John you and your wife should be so proud of yourselfs ❤
Your family is so lovely. I loved how your mother came in and just radiated love - so beautiful. My deepest sympathy for your loss. I'm glad you found a way to heal, and after seeing the pictures of you guys and Iris, it looks like you found your own little ray of sunshine. Looking forward to reading Fury.
Oh man you all had me crying over here with the heartfelt family moment at the beginning, and seeing your lovely mum come over to offer encouragement was so heartwarming as well. I have my copy of Fury preordered and I’ve never anticipated reading a series as much as I have with the Bloodsworn saga!!
It's Mama Gwynne! Such a beautiful video showing the love that goes into your family, these books, and out into the world through all your creative endeavours. I'm still finishing up FATF but I can't wait to see what's in store with the Bloodsworn and the future of the Banished Lands!
I can really see the passion that went into fury, especially after Harriet. Family, Orka's storyline, really shows the passion John Gwynne has for his family. I'm so glad that I got to read this (As much as I'm still crying over Fury)
I’ve never read any books written by your father but this video has me convinced I must - I look forward to delving into the worlds of his imagination, straight onto the TBR . ❤ thanks
Your motto of truth and courage was never more evident than in this video. Your father opening up about the family’s devastation and grief will resonate with so many and is the mark of a special person. You all allowed yourselves to show vulnerability, which was a true act of courage and an incredible tribute to your beautiful daughter/sister.
What a lovely family, and I'm so very sorry about your loss. No parent should ever have to bury a child. May God see you all through this and may His blessings surround you all.
Hi guys, very touching video and nice to see John again :-) I lost my wife two years ago at (what I think is) the tender age of 52. It's a terrible thing that never seems to go away. Your books have been a constant source of distraction/enjoyment and I am forever grateful. Can't wait to read Fury of the gods. I bought a signed copy from Broken Binding a few months ago so hopefully it doesn't take too long to get to New Zealand. Kia kaha nga mara (stay strong my friends).
So sorry to hear this. You're never prepared, nor ready to lose your loved one. Grief sticks forever. So sorry. We are really glad you have connected to Papa Gwynne's writing. Truth and courage. Ed
This was incredible! The Gwynne family, is a wellspring of inspiration. Being able to watch John’s first appearance back, after so long was deeply meaningful. Thank you all for being so supportive of fans.
Incredible emotions watching this one, right off the bat and I’m crying. Fury of the Gods has to be the one of the most anticipated books in recent years. So many of us are just counting down the days, our excitement levels are up there!
Thank you so much for this video guys. Your love for Harriet and starting off speaking about her ❤💔 we love your family and are so grateful for your truth and courage always.
Wow, three BEAUTIFUL HEARTED men - I wasn't expecting to feel so much when I hit play. My love to you, each of you. You give me hope that this world is not yet doomed to people distancing themselves from love and raw emotion - as hard as it is when emotion escapes, stay with it, experience it, accept it - it teaches young people not to hold it in, especially young boys. It makes well rounded people. ❤❤❤
We absolutely love you Mr John and Brothers Gwynne and may Harriet find peace and happiness wherever she is knowing that she has such a loving and caring family that loves her so deeply. Ed and Will give your Papa a warm hug. And may God bless us all.
Great to hear from and see John again. Such an amazing family. John is my favourite author ever and such a great human. Love to see the way you all support each other. I would love to meet John someday. Traveling to New Zealand any time soon? 😂
You guys made me both laugh and cry with this video! I love listening to you all chatting and it's so cool hearing John talking about his writing process. Thanks so much for asking my question, I adore Spert and Vesli too, but I would also love a talking bird, I love Storm and Budai quite a lot too though, so it's tough to chose😂 I personally love thought cage. Justice for Elvar!!
Thank you guys for being vulnerable and allow yourselves to get emotional in front of others. This day and age theres so much toxic masculinity and people need to realize men need to cry too. Ive only read Hunger and Shadow, but I CANNOT wait for Fury this month! And then after Fury, its time to discover ypur other books!!!
@thebrothersgwynne ahhhh! It's getting so close!!! I am beyond excited to see how this story wraps up! I hope Papa Gywnne has more story's set in this world in maybe a different time period or something! A one-off novel about the actually Godfall would be pretty sick, seeing all the gods fight beneath the huge tree!
I just finished reading the Fury of the Gods and I couldn't put it down. I finished the entire trilogy in 2 months. My absolute new favorite author and story, even better than the Stormlight Archives IMO (which is saying something). It breaks my heart to hear and know the things you have had to go through as a family, but the stories you have written have and will continue to bring joy and happiness to others. Biggest fan forever, thank you!
Guys you are lucky to have a beautiful human being as well as a great author as a father. I have discovered his books thanks to you, and I was deeply touched by them. I truly appreciate each one of your videos, thank you so much🤍
John you are an inspiration and have as of late become my favorite author. I have my copy of fury coming tomorrow and haven't been this excited since I was a kid at Christmas. Thank you for doing all that you do and I wish you and your whole family the best!
God bless you all. Brothers, thank you for doing this interview and for making this video. I can’t imagine how hard it must have been to do. Papa Gwynne, your strength and vulnerability are inspiring. I just got an email that my copy of Fury of the Gods has shipped and I am eagerly awaiting the moment I can start it. Stay strong. Much love from Canada
What a lovely video. I'm new to the channel and one of those people that thought I was missing an inside joke when you referred to "Pappa Gwynne", so it was somewhat of a shock to see him on the video. I'm also a new fan of Pappa Gwynne's books after I was recommended The Shadow Of The Gods by a friend, so this was a lovely melding of different moments into one. What a lovely family. ❤
This brought me to tears of sadness and of joy. What a wonderful family you are, Gwynnes. I am so happy you have each other. I have no words right now. Truth and courage, God bless you all.
Really great to see this video. Happy to see John sharing some fun discussions with his sons and seeing the genuine father/son interaction brings a tear to my eye.
I cannot wait to read Fury of the Gods. John has always written with a depth of emotion that is unreal. Listening to this I can see what drives that and I'm guessing this will be a phenomenal book. Brilliant interview. Thank you for sharing it with us all.
You guys have one amazing Father! Love & strength to your whole family! This vidoe has helped me a bit! As i lost my beautiful nan this week, its been hell! As she was like my 2nd mother! So i know the pain you all must be feeling. 💙
So sorry to hear about your sad news. Losing a family member is impossibly tough. We hope you have a circle around you where you can lean on one another and support each other. Thank you for watching. Ed
I just came across this video, thank you so much for having the courage to make more videos and content for your channel. I loved the final chapter of the bloodsworn trilogy, a master work John. You will go down as one of the greatest Fantasy writers in history.
Beautiful video! Thank you all so much. The beautiful heart of this family has always been evident and the channel has helped me through a lot of hard days. Thank you for sharing your personal grief and love. I am so sorry for your loss. John Gwynne’s writing highlights so much love and character throughout his first series, I can’t believe it was his first. It’s just brilliant and he’s now my new favorite author. Excited that I finally became a Bright Star Patreon member. It’s so worth it to support this amazing family and enjoy their insights into all of their reading experiences. I’m so happy I have!! Thank you all so much! 🙏🏻
Thank you for your kind words! SO glad you've connected with Papa Gwynne's writing. Thank you so much for becoming a Patreon, we appreciate more than we can say. Ed
What a beautiful interview, so brave. Your dad has the kindest, biggest heart. I have my copy of the book. Planning to re-read book 1, then go straight on to 2 & 3 😊
I got fury of the gods early and read the acknowledgments right away, absolutely teared up. Thank you for the stories you’ve written and for being such a kind passionate person
Great video. One more week, can't wait. Did my reread of SotG in August and HotG last month so I'm ready.Such a beautiful family,in sad times, the most important thing is to be together.
I think it's absolutely incredible and so so courageous to be able to be vulnerable able to start off the chat like that. You've all done yourself credit and and it's something that needs to happen more I think. Excellent interview regardless! Truth and Courage!
Thank you gentlemen for making this video and sharing it with the world. This is a beautiful thing and skyrocketed Papa Gwynne to the top of my favorite authors list.
Fantastic video- think that's the first author interview that has both caused me to shed a tear and laugh out loud at different points! Can't wait to read Fury of the Gods!
Fury of the gods was a unique experience, one of the best books i've read this year and definetly my favourite Gwynne book ! The finale is really good ! :D
Salute. Respect, and much love guys. I can't wait to raise a horn of Ale while reading Papa Gwynnes books, especially *Bloodsworne Saga* :) You guys are awesome. I appreciate your deep family connection. Keep your head up guys! :) -JRoot
I started this video not knowing about your family's loss as I am a new viewer. Your connection as Father and Sons was palpable xx Haven't got to Bloodsworn yet but I loved Faithful and the Fallen and about to start a reread hosted by a booktuber doing a catch up of the series xx
This is such a great video and I’m sure everyone agrees we appreciate the time you all take to do them! So entertaining and heartwarming to watch, got to agree with Ed on a 14/15 book series, don’t think anyone would complain about that😂
Well, now I just want to hug all of you! John, you are probably my favorite author right now! I got to read Fury, and it was truly amazing! Thank you for your wonderful stories! God bless you guys
You care the love for eachother and your beloved sister so well. Its in every line and expression in your bodies. Its breath taking to witness the signs of Enternal love. I laughed out loud when Mama Gwynne looked around and said "who are you talking to?" 🤣
I made the mistake of starting this video on my phone while driving home. I had to pull over because I couldn’t see through the tears. You Gwynnes are an inspiration. Thank you so much for being such a beautiful family, and for sharing that beauty with us through story.
Well said!
Same 😢 I was washing dishes and then I just started bawling 😢 So much love from us to you all ❤
Ah Philip you’re making us tear up! Thank you as always for your unwavering support ❤️
Ed and Will
Same Dr F - they are the best of people
yeah bro i was like "who's cutting onions?!"
This is why this man is my favorite author. Just a genuinely beautiful human being, who raised a wonderful family.
He’s a special man for sure and we’re so lucky he’s our Papa G❤️

2 minutes and 20 seconds in and I want to step into my screen and go in for a heartfelt group hug ♥️

Great to hear from and see John again. Such an amazing family. John is my favourite author ever and such a great human. Love to see the way you all support each other. I would love to meet John someday. Traveling to New Zealand any time soon? 😂
Thank you for your lovely words, Nathan. We are always keen to visit Lord of the Rings land, hopefully someday! 😁
Ed
You guys made me both laugh and cry with this video! I love listening to you all chatting and it's so cool hearing John talking about his writing process. Thanks so much for asking my question, I adore Spert and Vesli too, but I would also love a talking bird, I love Storm and Budai quite a lot too though, so it's tough to chose😂 I personally love thought cage. Justice for Elvar!!
❤️❤️
Thank you for the great question! Justice for Elvar indeed!
Ed
Thank you guys for being vulnerable and allow yourselves to get emotional in front of others. This day and age theres so much toxic masculinity and people need to realize men need to cry too.
Ive only read Hunger and Shadow, but I CANNOT wait for Fury this month! And then after Fury, its time to discover ypur other books!!!
Thank you for watching and for your kind words. We hope you love Fury as much as we do!
Ed
I remember you said daisies were Harriet’s favorite flower. Made me cry. I’ll be back to watch the remaining 45 minutes. Lovely family.
❤️
Guys you are lucky to have a beautiful human being as well as a great author as a father. I have discovered his books thanks to you, and I was deeply touched by them. I truly appreciate each one of your videos, thank you so much🤍
John you are an inspiration and have as of late become my favorite author. I have my copy of fury coming tomorrow and haven't been this excited since I was a kid at Christmas. Thank you for doing all that you do and I wish you and your whole family the best!
Big hugs for all of you! Its great to see how close you all are and support each other. ❤😢
Thank you Angela.
Ed
God bless you all. Brothers, thank you for doing this interview and for making this video. I can’t imagine how hard it must have been to do. Papa Gwynne, your strength and vulnerability are inspiring. I just got an email that my copy of Fury of the Gods has shipped and I am eagerly awaiting the moment I can start it. Stay strong. Much love from Canada
Oh god right in the feels 😭😭😭
❤️
All of the Gwynne family are truly an inspiration 💙looking forward to seeing the three of you in Brighton in November!
Can’t wait to meet you!
Ed
What a lovely video.
I'm new to the channel and one of those people that thought I was missing an inside joke when you referred to "Pappa Gwynne", so it was somewhat of a shock to see him on the video.
I'm also a new fan of Pappa Gwynne's books after I was recommended The Shadow Of The Gods by a friend, so this was a lovely melding of different moments into one. What a lovely family. ❤
Thank you for watching and we're glad you're a new fan of Papa Gwynne!
Ed
This brought me to tears of sadness and of joy. What a wonderful family you are, Gwynnes. I am so happy you have each other. I have no words right now. Truth and courage, God bless you all.

Really great to see this video. Happy to see John sharing some fun discussions with his sons and seeing the genuine father/son interaction brings a tear to my eye.
I cannot wait to read Fury of the Gods. John has always written with a depth of emotion that is unreal. Listening to this I can see what drives that and I'm guessing this will be a phenomenal book.

I started this video not knowing about your family's loss as I am a new viewer. Your connection as Father and Sons was palpable xx

You care the love for eachother and your beloved sister so well. Its in every line and expression in your bodies. Its breath taking to witness the signs of Enternal love. I laughed out loud when Mama Gwynne looked around and said "who are you talking to?" 🤣
Thank you so much for your lovely words ❤️ Mama Gwynne is hilarious
Ed
Much love, Gwynne fam.
