I love Lexi's refrshing, uncensored and honest reviews of books. She somehow manages to always make her videos entertaining. My ADHD also really appreciates the really fast talking
"It reminds me that I am no longer the target audience for this" I think this sums up exactly why so many people are seeming to "hate on YA" - not because we enjoy hating on YA but because YA is often something you outgrow (in a sense). Doesn't mean you cant like YA, it is just quite literally meant for another group of people.
yeah i think this is true to an extent - but i do still think that truly great books typically transcend target audience, and there is still ya i really love. just not all of it is for me anymore
A cool series you could do would be recapping and maybe critiquing the unhinged books in the bottom tier, because I don’t have enough time to read even the good books on my tbr but I’m also so curious about some of the bad books you mentioned
the way you describe books!!!! OMG!! i can dive into your book thoughts for hours!!! keep these videos coming pleaseeeeeeeeee, so i dont feel ashamed to judge books and the plots lol
This is the first video I've watched from Lexi, and... guys (!!) doesn't she remind you of a peak 2010-2014 YT creator? She has the right spunk, speed, and definitely the right sense of humor to break the top 10 trending. Not that she couldn't right now, but I'm just saying I entered a time capsule and am loving it!
how you felt about that book series being unfinished is how i feel just realising after discovering your channel for the first time that you only have 3 videos so i can’t binge watch them for book recs all day😭
Рік тому+23
I love to hear your thoughts on books because you also can enjoy something out of the pure entertainment without much critical thinking lmao sometimes is harddd to get good recs online of people that read like this as well
I watched this whole video while making my dinner and eating it and I have never been more entertained 😭 i love watching you talk abt books, even books I had no clue existed
For This is How You Lose the Time War, I reread it in audiobook format and idk if it was because of the reread or the format or even the relevant classes I was taking at the time, but it changed my original rating from a 4 star to a 5. Since the audio book is only 4 hours long I highly recommend people who are interested in rereading it to give the audio book a try
I would love to have you explain whole book plots for the books I don't want to read but am so curious about. Bc your hilarious and explain things so well.
I'm so glad I found you on tiktok to now on UA-cam. On good vibes alone, you're entertaining while also have very good analysis while also just reading to read! I feel like we would be friends. We agree on so many books and I have new books for my TBR!
Ohhhh, best 46 minutes spent so far!!! Your enthusiasm and narration is so contagious. I love that you can read books just because they're fun without taking everything too seriously, and I love the time you put into giving real, honest reviews. I was just vigorously nodding my head and babbling my thoughts out loud throughout the video with you 😂 I guess you're my favorite book tuber now!! I just know I'll like your recommendations 😂😂
the way i just took out my (unfortunate) purchases of ana huang's books to sell them w/o reading them and saw you pull that out at the start??? bestie i screamed ily dfkhkdjfsj
3:33 “It’s truly unhinged. There’s something to that for the girls out there who love the drama. You know who you are.” 🙋🏻♀️ Twisted Love is insane, but yes, your honor, I do, in fact, love the drama™ Signed, a Scorpio ♏️✌️
I don’t know how to explain it, but you’re so well spoken. Most of the booktubers i often watch use a lot of filler words, repetitive phrases and have somewhat of a restricted vocabulary, i’m not shaming on them, it’s just something I’ve noticed only after watching a couple of your videos! Definitely keep it going, you’ve become one of my favourite youtubers, and your videos are so calming🫶🏻
Just want you to know, that thought the video took you forever to record, I appreciated the longform! I got to listen to you talk about books while I was working, and I enjoyed it. :) Followed you over here from TikTok, and super glad I did.. Thank you for your work!
soo i have no idea who this youtuber was but i saw a 46 minute book video and clicked and boy this was nice! it didn't feel like 46 whole minutes, you were really funny and entertaining without spoiling anything so yeah definitely subscribing HAHAH
i'm so glad you enjoyed uprooted! i know a lot of people won't like it because the romance is pretty questionable, but it's still one of my all-time favourites because the fairytale vibes are just THAT good.
I think this might be my first video of yours. You are by far the most entertaining book reviewer I’ve seen. Ty for understanding some books are just meant to be fun and not literary masterpieces. 😂
oh my god carrie soto is back has been on my list for so long and you connecting it to haikyuu immediately pushed it to the top of my list LOL. the chokehold that show had on me in 2020 was unreal
Honestly can’t believe how good you are at this with only 3 videos! How do you read so many books with ADHD?? Rn I’m on a 1-1 ratio of books I finish vs DNF and it’s rough. Even if I’m at the halfway point with books if it starts to slowdown/get not as interesting I physically cannot keep going. Teach me your ways!
audiobooks helps me personally when I get to that point. that and setting myself daily challenges bc apparently my adhd brain loves competing with itself 😂😂
other person who responded to you spoke facts (i force myself to read at least 1 page a day, and i can stop at 1 if i want to but i HAVE to read at least 1...starting is the worst part so this made it way easier to be consistent), i've considered making a video on this but the gist for me is that it's easier now than it used to be for me to read things i find mid i think cuz i have better habits. but when i was initially getting back into reading i ONLY read things that i knew i would find very interesting and fun. i would not pick up things on whims. i had to like really like it and be excited to read it to start. that helped motivate me too. also if you don't love something you can DNF it!! better to read at all than it is to get through books you don't love.
audiobooks have been a game changer for me and my ADHD. i listen to audio while i drive, cook, clean or any other kind of mundane task so that my hands are doing something. it makes it easier for my brain the pay attention to what’s being read to me.
if you haven’t read it yet, babel by R.F Kuang is my favorite of her books. which considering i LOVE the poppy war is saying a lot, if you ever feel like a amazing found family with memorable characters and a really great plot you should give it a try!
On Yellowface: I definitely really enjoyed this book. The plot was super interesting and the villain’s perspective was fun. However, I did feel like the second leg of the book didn’t add anything new. If this had ended with the first thing, I think it would’ve been a stronger book.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I read Born a Crime years ago and still think about it. Educated is another good memoir, but I need to read more also!
Twisted Love is the type of book for girls who were seriously into fanfiction and didn't grow up into better written. Some wild shit just happens and characters are 2 dimensional cause you already just love the premise. The vides get you going for the terrible writing. I got 'things we never got over' due to tiktok but the bad stars on goodreads never got me to read.
for the first time I didn't have to increase the speed to 1.25x for a video cause you talk at the perfect speed 🥲! so glad i found you, going to read some of these
I picked up glory because I saw it in the library after watching this video. I know you didn't love it, but I wanted to give it a try. thanks for the rec!!
OMG I enjoyed the sunbearer trials enough to want to read the second, but it took so long for me to get into it, because of the feel you mentioned of clearly not being the target audience.
5:41 my biggest issue with The Liar's Crown was all the region names sounded like placeholder names the author never went back and changed. Aryd is a desert, Savanah is a savanna, Wildernyss is a big wilderness jungle, Mariana is a coastal area, Tropikis is tropical like it just screamed "the author has no creativity" to me.
I fully understand what you mean when you are talking about Nightcrawling. I was constantly acknowledging her glorious writing style. However, it stopped me from getting fully immersed in the story. She is young and interested in displaying her full range of skillset at times even to the detriment of the story. I think issues like this fix itself, as the author ages and gains more experience. Very excited to follow her journey as a writer. She is definitely a person to look out for in the big awards space in the future.
I just stumbled upon your content and already watched all 3 videos (my adhd doesn't agree with me using tiktok). I'm loving it. Very hyped to be here from nearly the beginning
lol 100% agree with everything you said about things we never got over! i really cant understand all the girls saying they have a crush on Knox. like "girl are you OK?"
loved this video! I read Betty last year and LOVED it too, it was brilliant, but definitely quite traumatic in some moments so anyone wanting to read it I would so recommend checking triggers, i normally don’t check before I read but this one was harrowing!
Omg! 100% on Every Summer After. I loved the first 2/3rds of the book. And then I started to dislike the male love interest and then the reveal put the final nail in the coffin. There's no coming back from that
betty has totally been added to my tbr from your praise alone! I think if you haven't read it already you would love the vanishing half. its also a multigenerational family saga book that shares some plot similarities to passing. it is seriously one of my favorite books ever like I cannot recommend it enough. I would love to hear your thoughts on it!
possible spoilers about yellowface: i think one thing that's missed in the commentary around yellowface (which i loved) is that during the editing of the manuscript even the story itself becomes whitewashed! and because she wasn't connected to the culture/history/the story itself june didn't 'fight' to keep important information in the story which is an interesting commentary about people writing about experiences of cultures/history that is different from their own
I love your videos. Like i dont know if its bcs of my ADHD but I just let your videos play in the backround and puff like magic i can get shit done and be productive. Also it’s so much fun to hear you talk trash about books that i also thought were kinda bad??? And i was really questioning if i was the problem since they are so popular Alsoo your Thoughts are so insightful! Super interesting to listen to
I hope you do a plot recap of the twisted series! I’m. It into romance books at all but I enjoy up your videos and think it would be entertaining to hear your thoughts!
“I just can’t take any kind of plot seriously after what they did with the anointing oil.” I laughed so hard my iced coffee came up my nose and I scared my dog. 😂
As soon as you said that you used to be obsessed with haikyuu, I knew I had to subscribe cause you have good taste! Am paying extra attention to all recommendations 😝
I completely agree about Things We Never Got Over 🫣 could not believe how immature Knox was, their spicy scenes were so odd and it was unnecessarily long 😩
i am also in love with the ember in the ashes series, and if you haven't already, you should read sabaa tahir's ya contemporary "all my rage". it's super heavy and there are lots of triggers to watch out for, but i just finished it yesterday and i haven't stopped thinking about it, it was so good, i gave it 5 stars.
I found your channel pretty recently and I just love your videos and you so much!! You’re so witty and sarcastic and I quite literally CACKLE at your commentary. Honestly I neeed more videos. 🙏 There isn’t enough on your channel to satiate me 😂😂❤❤
Lexi is seriously one of the most entertaining and funny people I've ever seen online.

“Tropes in a trench coat” is now my new favorite way to describe mid books

@@newlynova I still think that the really good YA (SoC, Hunger Games, etc.) can be read by adults, but it depends

I’ve watched every single one of your videos probably five times over. They’re so comforting

the comment that inspired it all

time to finish writing my final essay aka procrastinate and listen to ms lexi talk about books for 40 minutes ‼️
Love that you have a channel now. PLEASE continue with it. I know TikTok you have a bigger following but I love getting longer content from you. ❤

Your articulateness is so insane, i read tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow bc of you and now i trust everything you say😸😸
I watched this whole video while making my dinner and eating it and I have never been more entertained 😭 i love watching you talk abt books, even books I had no clue existed
Girl I looooove your vibe!! And that idea of recapping the twisted love series...please do😁
I had what I classify as undiagnosed ADHD so it’s rare for me to actually watch full videos but I am watching this. She is very entertaining lol
absolutely love the tier set-up in this. i have a hard time rating books off anything but vibes
Truly so happy you came over to UA-cam , I love the way you explain your thoughts ❤

oh my god carrie soto is back has been on my list for so long and you connecting it to haikyuu immediately pushed it to the top of my list LOL. the chokehold that show had on me in 2020 was unreal
I was just waiting for another video and you delivered, SLAY

Agreed and I found the exorcist plot to be not in the same tone as the rest of the book?
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I read Born a Crime years ago and still think about it. Educated is another good memoir, but I need to read more also!
ooo i wasnt expecting the locked tomb to show up! all three books are beautifully unhinged and im impatiently waiting for the 4th :)
Twisted Love is the type of book for girls who were seriously into fanfiction and didn't grow up into better written. OMG I enjoyed the sunbearer trials enough to want to read the second, but it took so long for me to get into it, because of the feel you mentioned of clearly not being the target audience.
Only book commentary person that I LOVE
5:41 my biggest issue with The Liar's Crown was all the region names sounded like placeholder names the author never went back and changed. Aryd is a desert, Savanah is a savanna, Wildernyss is a big wilderness jungle, Mariana is a coastal area, Tropikis is tropical like it just screamed "the author has no creativity" to me.
This for some reason really makes me want to know how you organize your books, both bookshelf and TBR cart etc.
She is definitely a person to look out for in the big awards space in the future.
yes 100%. i'm very very excited to see what she'll be doing in 10 years (though not excited to be older lmao)
honestly loved this whole video, really enjoying the UA-cam channel so far!
Lexi is my all time favorite booktuber/Tiktoker. She’s so much fun and makes me smile 🥰
16:45 im zimbabwean first gen in england and i had no idea there was any literary work on the politics- definetely something ill look into
"Nightcrawling" is an amazing book! I am so glad to see it on your list!

THE QUEEN IS HERE
Currently reading Betty. The scene I just read literally made me breathless
If you're a fan of Scott Westerfeld you should try the Imposter series. A little more sci fi than The Liars Crown but I really enjoyed them!
loved this video! I read Betty last year and LOVED it too, it was brilliant, but definitely quite traumatic in some moments so anyone wanting to read it I would so recommend checking triggers, i normally don’t check before I read but this one was harrowing!
yes this is definitely accurate, truly it just kept getting worse at every turn (but it is SO good)
Propulsive is suuuch a good word to describe a story element!! You’re so fuckin good at describing books 🤩
Def on the list
Okay this is the booktube content I’ve been looking for
you influenced me to get the UK versions of raybearer and redemptor 😭😭 those covers are gorgeous!
WE NEED MORE DUOLOGIES YES
I was very excited with the haikyuu mention, i also was obsessed with it (and still am)
Learning you were also obsessed with haikyuu as a teen really resonated with me lol
possible spoilers about yellowface:
i think one thing that's missed in the commentary around yellowface (which i loved) is that during the editing of the manuscript even the story itself becomes whitewashed! and because she wasn't connected to the culture/history/the story itself june didn't 'fight' to keep important information in the story which is an interesting commentary about people writing about experiences of cultures/history that is different from their own
The audiobook of “Born a Crime” was soooo good! Trevor Noah is hilarious and the accents are great! I loved it so much!

Please make book recap video essays like mike's mic that would be so good
