Remake looks better but n64 sounds better. If you’ve never played the n64 version, then the sounds and voices wouldn’t matter as much. But that’s the problem I find with remakes. We’re so used to the original sounds and voices.
Yeah, the 3DS version did a good effort to match the original voice acting, but it could never surpass it. I still found it to be quite good, except, notably, for Andross's voice during his boss fights. In the original he sounds like an otherworldly horror, while in the remake he just sounds awkwardly, mildly annoyed.
The sound of the comms switching on and off is honestly jarring. It's practically the most frequently heard sound in the game next to shooting so you'd think they'd go with something a little easier on the ears but... Jeez Laweez what is that!?
These are both running off emulation and feature some graphical and sound errors from there respective original versions, so not really a proper comparison. I get wanting them to look as good as possible but not accurate at all. The N64's use of anti-aliasing, dither filtering made Starfox 64 look really good on standard def TVs. The 3DS version made great use of depth, being able to judge where things were in 3D space felt great while meant to be played on a very small screen.
I skipped this game on 3DS, even though I played most of the great ones. I was too busy with OoT, and later down the line this game seemed to be kinda hard to find (at least brand new). Definitely looks like a must-play, though.
I got this and oot3d back in 2012. And although I loved both thanks to the ogs, remaster wise SF643D blows all the somehow glitchier and sometimes weirder (than their og counterparts) grezzo ones including lm13d out of the water. This game is a fine example of a great graphical overhaul that keeps the faithfulness and proper code and programming work of the original version, despite the voice redubs and remixed music (the latter which I do enjoy a lot even to listen to the ost tho i overall still prefer the og with its soundfount that was later reused for the n64 zeldas). Heck even some HD ports for wii u and switch such as TPHD, SSHD and LM2HD (all by Tantalus Media) are Grezzo tier ones. This one (by Q-Games who worked SF Command on DS) is so good that SF Zero (by PlatinumGames) took its artstyle and most graphical elements as base while HDfying them.

I dusted off the Wii U version with my daughter last week and had to explain to her how it's actually a really really really good game, but with tricky controls. Of all the games that Nintendo greedily re-sold as enhanced versions on Switch, Star Fox should have been one of them.
I really wish they did it too out of all games (especially NSMBU with its meme powerup and pretty much no new content at all or the glitchy port of LM2 Dark Moon with no new content either), but they would have to redo most of the gameplay mechanics and everything for it to work properly there, which unfortunately must've been seen as too much work for a port, despite Zero being a solid game otherwise. Also sucks that there was no new SF game since it (finally releasing the final version of SF2 on snes mini and Switch online doesnt count). I was anticipating it a lot but yeah too bad they didnt port it.
It's really strange to explain, but the 3DS version feels more like a sidegrade than a proper upgrade or downgrade... while some graphic aspects are way better, I can't help but feel some of the artistic vision was lost in the process...

I found that somewhat weird considering they're round in the 3ds HUD, but they're 8 sided there ingame actually. I wonder if it was a limitation they had to face to keep the game at stable 30fps? Keeping in mind that the 64 version lags a bunch in certain parts both on real n64 and more or less cycle accurate emus (including official ones). An unnoficial port or enhanced performance emulation can solve that for it, but obviously the game was made with the n64 hardware in mind at the time.
I think the one major downgrade is slippy's running animation... In 64 he looks like he's struggling out of breath trying to keep pace with everyone else because of how his mouth flaps open and shut. I think it's just overall better character acting within the animation and more charming.
There's a lot of little artistic things like that got lost. The way the Arwing's jets kinda pulse in the N64 version is also gone on the 3DS. I also noticed the Arwing's had tinted windows on N64, probably to obscure the low poly faces, where the 3DS proudly shows off those lifeless mouth flaps.

I was thinking the same thing as I reminded how more proper a lot of the JP script is plot wise, with certain stuff that were lost during localization, despite how praised and beloved it's always been. Sadly that's also a common thing with many localizations from japanese material such as lots and lots of anime and games
Let's be honest, it is easier for Nintendo to decide to adapt Star Fox 64 from 3DS to re-release it on Nintendo Switch than Star Fox Zero, due to the gamepad controls that the game has. - If Nintendo releases Star Fox Zero by removing the Gamepad controls, establishing an aim like StarFox 64, the game may even improve its playability a lot, like Zelda Skyward Sword HD
Everyone keeps wanting zero without the gamepad controls but like... I think the reason it hasn't happened is just because they would quite literally have to make an entirely different game. The Gamepad defines way too much of the experience of Zero for it to be totally divorced from it, unlike 3D world or a few other ports.

I tried to watch the 3DS version, but my eye was consistently drawn to the N64 version. That version is faster, rougher, and has more action and better cinematic effects somehow (I happened to notice the subtle color change leaving the atmosphere in stage 1). Everything in the 3DS version just kind of looks like someone dropped a bunch of plushies into their plastic Arwing toy set. It's more detailed, but somehow the detail subtracted from the style and the feel, and I'm greatly disappointed. That said, I couldn't tell Corneria was a city the first time I played the N64 version. At least that bit has been improved.

The Gamepad defines way too much of the experience of Zero for it to be totally divorced from it, unlike 3D world or a few other ports.
Like the radio sound of the 64 version more
64 hands down
Sorry my guys.... Under 2000 i think 😅 n64. Was on top over ps1 in graphics and today still rocks!!❤❤❤ And my god. Commentary is over the top. Pump over REALLY!
Who is getting the rumble pack feeling while watching?
Aunque la versión de 3Ds está muy bien pulida y cuidada sigo prefiriendo la versión de Nintendo 64 🖤
Great remake. Too bad it's stuck on a handheld.
▪️
I never knew they remade it for 3ds. I bought one of those things and barely messed with it.
⬛
The first game in history to use rumble
I don't understand the difference. In both they need run over a mile to just reach their ships...
Good remake.
i still prefer the n64 version. the music and voice acting was far better. the graphics were far better on the 3ds. but andros "ha ha ha" is so unfogivable lol
Love it all, except peppys voice
Slippy get back here is the most irritating opening line in video game history. he almost kills himself within the first 10 seconds of the game and you have to save his ass then he says I thought they had me. It's like bro I thought you were an elite pilot?
He’s the mechanic, weapon maker, and analysis expert. He could literally do that from inside the mothership.
*Graphics look great, but whoever is playing is unfortunately an incredibly novice player.*
They should have left the portraits and subs on remake
Pretty sure they were in the game, just on the bottom screen since it's on the 3ds
That emulation hurts
Rofl Slippy running at start
would it have killed you to add the COMPLETE intro? jeez...
Estaría con madre que hicieran lo mismo con el star fox de snes.

Damn, missed everything cool about the first stage😅
When you were a kid playing Star Fox the day it came out, the graphics, in your mind, looked like those on the right lol.
I love the new polys in the remake. But I love how colorful and lightful is the N64 version.
I hate how washed up and lifeless is the remake.
N64 tem um charme incontestável.
soul vs soulless
I like the original sharper arwings
the thing i dont understand about people is any of them realize that the OG and remake dosent have much difference and like the caracter after what we can see he dosent have a big one that sure is normal the remake going to get little more detail but who care when we play a game is for have fun but people is only carea about graphic and that 100% the true oterwsie he never have anyone who going to complain about a game og or remake and play because he like the game but in nowday is never work like this people just want to play a game only for the graphic and that prouve u guys have 0 interst about a game u dont play the game because is fun u only play it because the graphic and u prety dislike the game entirely if that not the case then OG or remake dosent mater at all a game is a game is for have fun with people and not about graphic but more the generation go ahead and more stupide people can be if u think im liar the just watch any video exemple res4 the first day is be ou in 2005 everyone love it when the remake be out every og video be remove for the remake that prouve people dont love to play game in nowday
Beautiful😊
Great game 🎮
The new version is disappointing, as the voices of the characters have changed, the music has changed, and the sound effects have changed little.
How did you wanted it? Ported over or emulated?
yea the audio should have been straight up ported over, it bothered me too. especially slippy
someone uploaded all the voice lines and soundtrack uncompressed, if it were possible i wish someone would make a mod of 3d with those
It's nowhere as bad as you say it is
@@kaiizolSebastian's Star Fox 64 3DS mod might be what you're looking for 👀
La 3ds se ve obvio que mejor, pero me gusta mas la n64 cuando acabas con un jefe la explosion es mucho mejor
Falco 64 3d model>>>>>>>>
5:52 I smell a meme
el apuntador del 3DS Remake se ve muy grueso y grotesco
tambien fue grotesco el doblaje latino, se tiene q trabajar mejor en el guion
RW:i never get tired of seeing them run through the Great Fox.
here team 64

As awesome as the 3DS version looks, the charm of the original (max settings on emulator is awesome too) will always hold a special place in that pitch black hole where my heart is supposed to be.
I thing beats the original
