Sean Connery was not a huge star then before Dr No he was in smaller parts and character actor roles and was noticed by producer Cubby Broccoli when Connery was in appearing in Darby O’Grill and the little people in 59 and Broccoli stated Connery would make a good Bond when the hunt was on for actors to play James Bond in 61. Broccoli was impressed by Connery after he saw the Darby film and had seen a fight scene with Connery and thought he would make a good James Bond but still had 6 other finalists screen test for the role before Connery got it beating out an 28 year unknown model Peter Anthony as Broccoli thought Anthony lacked the acting technique to land the part. It’s ironic as years later as unknown car salesman and model from Australia George Lazenby landed the role taking over from Sean Connery when only acting experiences he had were in tv commercials but lied to producers about his acting experience and landed the role based on his screen test and doing a fight scene breaking the nose of stuntman and actor he was doing screen test with.

I just realised that he only said, "Bond, James Bond" as a playful response to her, "Trench, Sylvia Trench." So in a way Sylvia was responsible for one of the most legendary phrases in movie history
In fact, that was (and I think it still is) the way British people from high society greeted each other. People were called using the last name, but the courtesy ed that the first name had to be given.
@ EON 007. Sean Connery as James Bond introducing himself to Judith Gayson's Sylvia Trench character at the gambling table in "Dr. No" is certainly one of the most iconic scenes in movie history, but it is in no way the most important scene in movie history. To claim that is ridiculous! There realistically is no such thing as the most important theatrical or made-for-TV movie scene in history.
I got the first name of the actress wrong in my above comment about the film "Dr. No". It is Eunice Gayson not "Judith" Gayson who played the role of Sylvia Trench.
The confident covert tips by Sean Connery are a display of pure class, elegantly showing off yet doing it subtly. Getting the money, getting the girl and getting the respect of the club, a classic!
Sean Connery was undoubtedly the greatest Bond actor of all time. He had it all,the looks, the style, the charisma and the self confidence to carry it off. Fabulous!! Blessings.

@@scottknode898 I’m so glad that Bond didn’t sabotage Connery’s career. Not only did he play the iconic character of James Bond, he was THE James Bond, the first and original actor. All the more reason for his typecasting to prevent him from getting other acting roles, but I’m glad that wasn’t the case for Sean Connery. He became an icon and a legend like Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino etc.
@@nsasupporter7557 He had great presence. I recently watched The Rock it wasn't as good as I remembered. Too over the top, and Nicholas Cage was so annoying. Connery saved that film.
@@scottknode898 Ian Fleming didn’t want Connery to play Bond at first. Because he was Scottish, James Bond is British. He wanted Cary Grant originally
@@vernpascal1531 I was only 9 at the time The Rock came out in 1996. I didn’t see it until after he passed away, I watched a marathon of his movies to honor him and celebrate his life and career and I thought it was really awesome.
No one has ever been, or ever will be, as cool as this.
Sonny Crockett perhaps? Although probably no.
When Clint wore the poncho he was up there with Connery.
You are totally right!!!!!!!!!
There are many types of cool. This is a special type. Very smooth. Very bold. Ian Flemming invented a unique character. Combine that with a very special actor. And you get one of the greatest performances in movie history.
I agree with you, but Fonzie wouldn’t
Sean Connery made James Bond the legend that he is. That’s a rare thing for an actor to achieve. True legend.
CRAIG WAS A TOTAL REJECT COMPARED TO THIS DUDE
@@ekop1778 Craig (and likewise Dalton) is awesome as Bond. Every actor is cool in their own right.
He looked like the Bond in Fleming's books.

His name is Connery, Sean Connery and he’ll be in our hearts in memory, and everything.
None of the others can hold a candle to him. I grew up on the Bond movies and the Connery Bond films are still my favorites.
RIP Sean Connery
Whats funny is Connery hated James Bond. One of his quotes is that if he ever met James Bond, he'd kill him.
@ The Cosmo Channel. Actually Sean Connery once stated that he didn't hate playing the role of James Bond as many people erroneously believe. He stated that, "It takes a certain craft to play a role like that, but it is simply natural for an actor to seek other roles". Mr. Connery you were quite simply the very best James Bond. You were and always will remain the template by which all other actors who have or will play that role will be measured. Thank you so much Sean for providing me with all the moments of pleasure watching you play Bond as well as the other roles you played in other films! You will be greatly missed but never forgotten by film fans! Now you can see once more Bernard Lee ("M") Desmond Llewellyn ("Q") and Lois Maxwell ( "Miss Moneypenny") and say to each other, "Wasn't it all fun"! R.I.P. Sean Connery.
What horrible news to wake up too. Rest peacefully 007

The coolest introduction of a character in film history as far as I'm concerned. They absolutely nailed telling the audience right away how cool Bond is.
The only other character I’d add to this is the shredder from the original live action TMNT movie. His intro scene was absolutely perfect
John wicks intro story was pretty bad ass.
Also Jack Reacher.
Came down here to say just that.
hahaha true
thats what i thought
Holy crap!😳
The way connery lights his cig and lets it loll in his mouth looks amazing. It adds to the delivery of the line
Most important scene in cinema history.
A Legend was born!
Agree. Very important, well scripted, well acted scene that changed so much.
Exactly.
Bond... James Bond
One of the most unforgettable scenes in any movie...
Fabulous!! Blessings.

I came here because of the news. This is where the legacy started.
Are you saved friend? If you died tonight will you go to heaven or hell? God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh to take away the sin of the world. He gave up his own life to save yours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for your redemption with his own blood. John 20:27-29 KJV
Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
