LYRICS:
German puppets burned the Jews
Jewish puppets did not choose
Puppet vultures eat the dead
Puppet corpses they are fed
Puppet winds and puppet waves
Puppet sailors in their graves
Puppet flower, puppet stem
Puppet time dismantles them
Puppet me and puppet you
Puppet German
Puppet Jew
Puppet Presidents command
Puppet troops to burn the land
Puppet fire, puppet flames
Feed on all the puppet names
Puppet lovers in their bliss
Turn away from all of this
Puppet reader shakes his head
Takes his puppet wife to bed
Puppet me and puppet you
Puppet German, puppet Jew
Puppet Presidents command
Puppet troops to burn the land
Puppet fire, puppet flames
Feed on all the puppet names
Puppet night comes down to play
The after act to puppet day
A poet, a prophet, a philosopher. Forever Leonard Cohen.
A performer too.
❤
And a puppet too. We all have inner puppets, even you!
Only Leonard could write such a dark song with love of history.
This song is ridiculously relevant for the times we're living in
He apparently woke up before he left his carnation :)
It is not a song it is one of his poems also he wrote many books of research concerning study of the use of LSD in hospital treatment of mental patients in the 1960s
@@tracywebster3999 I knew he was "the little Jew who wrote the Bible", he said so himself. But - LSD therapy?
I’m certain Jesus isn’t a Nazi.
Though, he does hate Jews.
What a parting gift he left us.
This man understood and communicated all the glory and horror of humanity. So much love and respect to him!
The horror the horror.
Since I grew teenager, +50 years ago, Leonard’s songs, from Suzanne to Thanks for the Dance, have always been shelter and guide for my traveler soul. It’s still there and It’ll be until my last dance
I have just turned 70, and as you say, 50+ years Leonard has been my solace. He can be tender, gentle, and, as here, brutal with honesty.
R.I.P. Leonard Cohen, you understood the human condition like no other, and I don’t believe there will be be another like you. As you continue on into the next chapter after this life into the great unknown. Thank you for everything
Can you explain to a zoomer how he understood the human condition?
@@chile_en_nogada2090 I'll try. Do you have years to listen? For starters try to never ever let yourself be a puppet. Be your own boss and explore. Happy trails 👣💓
@@CeceKruchkoSmith thank you amd yes i have all the time in the world! Maybe you have discord or something and we can talk
@@chile_en_nogada2090 I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. Take your time and go out into the world and listen. That might take years. I call it growing up. 😌
@@CeceKruchkoSmith ya im doing that/ done that..
What a beautiful artistic video. Great combination with the words of the poet. It is not a song, it’s a prayer.
Yes, that is so true -- didn't realize till you said so -- Thanks.
I'm ready my lord.
False. It’s a song.
Amen. 🙏❤
His voice is so commanding and his words so captivating 😎
Holy truth ! The truth is essential !

We are blessed to have had him. May his memory be a blessing.
Written on our hearts in burning letters
One of Canada's finest songwriters and poets. I'm glad I got to see him live. May Leonard Cohen rest in peace. Cheers! ✌️🇨🇦
One of WORLD's finest songwriters and poets.
@@MojoVince Indeed!
I believe he new the truth and seen the light as we all must do.As all of humanity lives in the dark
Saw Cohen ash e O2 in London, amazing experience.....
What a powerfull video for this song. I will always cherish his work.
Leonard Cohen Poet, story teller and prophet. this is so appropriate for today thank you.
And how appropriate, and moving, to see this on the anniversary of Kristallnacht. THank you,Leonard, for all you gave the world. Rest in Peace

He was the One and he stay THE ONLY ONE forever 🖤🖤🖤
Just heard this for the first time .... So powerful, so dark, so appropriate where the medium becomes the message
Thanks again Leonard

Powerful words from the wordsmith that was Cohen.
...some people call it a slingblade
I learned a thing from my childhood that man is mortal. But how? Cohen is fully alive to me and i'm still waiting for his next album.
This is the most beautiful poetey I have ever heard ! The voice, the meaning, the feeling ...OMG !
......This mysterious timbre is just hypnosis.....
Absolutely adored this man, his music and poetry, very sadly missed.
What a powerfull video very sad that others were and still are capable of such atrocities to others the sound of the flames at the end is chilling RIP Leonard.
Yes well as Dylan said they play with our world like it's their little toy.
May he rest in peace. He is always living vividly among us. Sir Leonard Cohen was a great singer, writer, poet and a great character to think about.
Leonard you will never be forgotten. Thank you for the wisdom you left us🙏❤️
Wow. His words and vision are so moving. I so would have loved to meet him on a bench park here in Montréal where I live. Or a cafe. And then simply listen to him. It seems to me that he saw life so clearly. And knowing the black and white and everything in between, he was wise and a gift to this world. ✨
A man strong enough to not carry over hatred to the next generation.
Indeed
God, I love this man. How insightful he was.
Leonard Cohen was one of a kind, so different from the others, in the best possible way.
Good G_d, how could I ever forget the power of Cohen's voice...
Leonard was a prophet for these times
God bless this man
RIP Leonard Cohen
With songs like this Leonard Cohen Will never die and what is so sad no body Will ever take his place
This song has haunted me for the past weeks. Absolutely unique!
Brillant ; comme toujours. Merci monsieur Cohen ! Reposez en paix!
Now, THIS is poetry.
Siempre lo fue!!!
@@mariajoselopezbarral3364 Siempre.
It always was.
Thank u, Cohen. From beyond.
He touched SO many hearts .... We were blessed to have him in our world. My first memory of music as a baby was Leonard Cohen. The song Suzanne, to be specific. It was instant, lifelong love from that point forward. Love of music, and the beautiful, amazingly talented man that was Leonard. Seeing him perform live is one of my most treasured memories!
Suzanne has always been one of my favorite songs -- but I spent my whole life hearing Judy Collins sing it -- I'm really grateful I've decided to take a deeper dive into him singing his own songs and it's just fantastic. Thanks!
I Miss Leonard Cohen being in the World.
An absolutely perfect video for this song. Shades of Vietnam, so appropriate given that Cohen was a monk (among many other things).
Buddhist monk yes.
But the first time he joined he ran away. He said that having a Japanese and a German in charge felt like the revenge of WWII.
@@madtabby66 I was merely hoping to make a connection between monks in general and the particular monk who died by self-immolation. (He wasn't the only monk to use self-immolation to point out the absurdity of the entire war but (surprise!) that photograph (was it in Life? Ironic if it was) made his charred remains a celebrity.)
It's something of a pity that the Dada movement was, approximately, 70 years in the past although, it's quite possible, the anti-war movement would just have made too much sense to mesh with their sensibilities.
Thanks for making me cry, Leonard. Again.
mind-boggling
Leonard Cohen was my favorite singer that'd sing quietly or whisper his words in a unique fashion, his work is astonishing, the first time I listened to one of his song was 2 years ago, back in 2020 "A Thousand Kisses Deep".
RIP to Leonard Cohen Sept. 21st, 1934 - Nov. 7th, 2016
May his soul, and mind rest together in the deep darkness of quiet, and peace. Where he will never be disturbed, nor harmed, just listening to the voices that call his name, and lavish his artwork.
This man is legendary.EMBRACE THE PAIN
Excellent work, Mr. Cohen, as always.
Thank you Leonard for all you have done for mankind.
His wisdom will live forever…
His words will live on in the hearts of us all
Thus you are never truly gone❤️
Rest In Peace 🙏🏻📿🕯
Just powerful and iconic, like always!
I don't want to be a puppet, but we're all a slave to something.
No matter how we try to be free, there's a hand above or beneath thee
Use rationality and common sense, you will be free. Do whatever you want and not you believe that you want
Feel so lucky to have seen him in concert years ago... My all-time favorite performer...along with Santana and Freddie Mercury.
not a day goes by that I don't listen to his music... A great, great artist!!!
So powerful and gifted.
He's been gone five years now. Passed a few days before my Mom. Was not expecting this! So awesome!!!!
Wow - rather brutal imagery at the end, but it somehow works with the message of the words. I saw him live (best concert ever), and he's been a part of my life and connected to memories for over 50 years.
I've got chills.
Perfect symmetry in sound and vision.
Bless them all
Amazing his voice & the music theme, powerful lyrics, and wonderful video art,... Great music. 😍🎤🎶🎵🔥💖👌👏👍
I salute him. Many thanks, love and great respect to Leonard Cohen forever. ✨🙂🌹💖💝
He was a great poet and man❤️RIP, Leonard Cohen.
This is a great example of why he's one of the greatest. Leonard used words like tools to carve songs out of the stone of inspiration. As an aspiring poet, I look to the greats like Bob Dylan, Chris Cornell, Maynard James Keenan and of course Leonard Cohen, to feed my creativity and try to keep myself inspired.
Well MJ should be on that list with Freddy since most of the ones you name are inspired by them and their work.
@@Wipeout186 they were both great musicians but they weren't really profound lyricists
@@20th_century_specter well majority of MJ music and poems was of his own writing plus he wrote a few for some of your mentioned people and others, add to that he still have songs he never released due to his death, and Freddie did alot of their music to. No offense but if your mentioned used these 2 as inspiration and considered their work good enough to learn from it must mean they thought they were profound lyricists.
@@Wipeout186 with respect, I have to disagree; I'm not saying that MJ and Freddie weren't giants in world of music, they absolutely were; I'm saying that when I think of the most profound lyrics of all time, their names don't pop in my head.
@@Wipeout186 with respect, I think we have different definitions of what Profound Lyrics are.
Love it- and love Leonard
He really was a true poet...I am glad some of his things are coming out now..
Touching ♥️♥️
He cut the chord's, so perfectly.
His soul filled his mouth by force with poetry.
David's pride, his protégé, without envy.
to bare one's soul through his remarkable beauty.
Levitical lines for the world, his call, his duty.
Thank you Mr Cohen.
A rare man the world had the honour of being embraced by, and should have reciprocated all the more!
Another Canadian man that makes me proud as well!
Legends never die
This is haunting, majestic and beautiful. I will miss your talents.
First time listening to this…WOW!!!
His voice is a masterpiece….
I don't believe in heaven and hell, but if there is an afterlife I hope to meet Leonard there.

Sensacional ! My friend Leonard Cohen!
great song to represent the times coming. for all you people who are selling your freedoms to buy your place back in a comfortable society, for the luxuries killing your spirits, you can be sure you will not be able to buy them back. divide and conquer. panem et circenses.
Extraordinario!!!
He has a way to reach a person so vivid and raw
what a song and video, this is a masterpiece
Fortissime emozioni, parole e immagini come coltelli, che arrivano all'anima. Grazie
Love this, it is a great reminder and warning!!
Thanks Leonard!
Leonard you were a true poet. Thank you.

2022 and still one of my favorite singers. RIP ✌️❤️
Stunningly brilliant
Truth in plain sight 💥
Thank you Leonard Cohen
I've been coming back to this poem the last weeks. It always makes me tear up, because it says something about people and leaders not knowing better. And it moves me so, coz I know we don't all think alike, we're not all told the same truth. Leonard was a prophet, and I hope that the future gets so transparent less people become puppets.
It's a very manipulated world people don't really always have a "choice".
Amen
I don’t know Russian, but his poetry should be available in the Russian language.
Powerful stuff 💞💜💞💜
