  • Illuminating the truth of the relationship between awareness and self, Alan Watts naturally opens us to the inevitable ecstasy of surrender.
    This series is brought to you by the Alan Watts Organization and Ram Dass’ Love Serve Remember Foundation. Visit Alanwatts.org for full talks from Alan Watts.

    Awareness & Self // Chasing the Universe (16:00)

    Vibration, Meaninglessness, & Inevitable Ecstasy (39:00)
    “You don’t know what consciousness is because consciousness is present in every conceivable kind of experience. It’s like the space in which we live, which is everywhere. It’s like a fish being in water, and presumably a fish doesn’t know it’s in the water because it never goes out. A bird presumably knows nothing of the air, and we really know nothing of consciousness.” - Alan Watts

      Oh my… I struggle but finding Alan Watts… about 5 years ago… has been such a help, so soothing and considered, reasoned and non-judgemental. I am so very grateful. It is easy to criticise modern technology but the ability to touch a piece of glass on this super-computer in my hands and be served such wisdom is truly a blessing.

    I had a dream once where I was given the opportunity to ask God a question. When I heard the answer from the formless voice, it was Watts voice. I have come to realize this decades later after watching these UA-cam videos. I probably picked up the voice from a record I listed to at a young age. I asked, "Why are we afraid to die?" The voice of God--in Watt's voice, said, "If you fear death, it means you are off the track of your purpose. When you are on track, there is no fear of death. This is the universe reaching out to help you stay on track." Go for your purpose. Co-create with the past, present and future to make it happen. Be the circle!

    Alan Watts is confusing ppl many times.
    The knower and the seer are the same one.
    First he was saying there is no knower.
    And later he was saying the seer is what we are and that is why we can not find it.
    But I am able ti find the seer because I am aware that I see.
    There is the seer.
    I am a self reflecting coscioysness.
    I am aware of my awareness.
    There, I have found the seer and the knower.
    They are the same one.
    I have lustened to Alan Watts a lot abiut 15 years ago.
    But when I listen to him now, I feel that he is confusing people in some cases.
    He is making it unnessesarily mysterious and complicated.

      One has to embrace death with each breath through awareness. Thus one has to embrace suffering, stay with it, and let it go. This is being human.

    I have a serious confession to make. Even though I find Taoism/Buddhism quite logical and beautiful, I also find that I'm quite possibly the worst Buddhist that has ever lived. So Sacrilegious that I can hardly even stand myself. Now I have to meet my new friend and have a couple of beers and leer at women. Do you see what I mean? So much desire, and so little time.

    What does it mean when someone says, "He was praying really hard!" Do they imagine that God is sitting up their weighing how much we meant it? Oh, he didn't really mean that, it was just an errant thought and I don't have to take it seriously. Whereas, this guy, boy oh boy was he really praying hard and really meant it, so I had better comply.

    Listen first to Carl Jung break down the human nature and it’s components, then listen to Alan Watts and you will see elucidations far more revealing and complex analysis that approaches a foundation for self learning and teaching us to live in good self understanding and then we can be understanding of others. Watts delves only so deep and is clever reductionist using spiritual and interpretive concepts of meta cognition that he claims to be worthy of adopting, but he falls short of Jung’s genius.

    What if a person has no ego because of trauma?

    • @danielmarinov3560
      @danielmarinov3560 Рік тому

      You still have spirit, true nature. You can lose the Ego and have to accept your true nature, your life goes on. You can never lose spirit, it's always there, shadowed by the ego and mundane thought, even in death a part of it remains, you could also call it soul.

    • @margesimpson805
      @margesimpson805 Рік тому

      @@danielmarinov3560 Yeah it never goes away. I think what can be made seen for people with traumatic incidents is this fact. Through circumstances they wouldn't have dreamed of, their guide lines in life are shattered and seeing you still remain is sort of a blueprint for that.
      Regardless of trauma, it can increase presence in the moment exponentially, and for me that is a joyous thing. I'm so glad to be alive.

      The 'ego' is not a noun and is not as 'bad' as is constantly made out!

    • @lousialb8962
      @lousialb8962 11 місяців тому

      The bragging, bombastic bully is only one of many egoic forms. Others include the helpless victim, the righteous rescuer, the people pleaser, etc.
      Ego is simply how you have been trained to think and act. Trauma can do that in a big way.
      There are many ways to find out who you really are. They all take courage and humility, to question everything you ever thought you knew. Depending on your unique disposition, some methods will be more effective than others, which can be confusing and dejecting at first.
      Can recommend Rupert Spira and Helen Hamilton as gentle guides who do not use dogmatic or religious jargon (that can be an obstacle). They both employ direct-experience methods that are especially useful for those with self-regulation issues (a common effect of trauma).
