- In this video we show you how to access and clean the filter on a Hotpoint washing machine or washer dryer. If your washing machine isn't emptying fully then the filter will most likely need cleaning.

Thank you. After 30 years of having a washing machine this was the first time I have ever cleaned the filter. It was as easy as you demonstrated.
Followed your instructions and it worked. Had no idea where the filter was. There was a wet wipe blocking it. Saved me £90 on the call-out fee for the engineer who I subsequently cancelled. Cheers!!
Thanks for this, the link Hotpoint gives you in the instruction manual doesn't work, so this was very helpful.
Thank you very much. We don’t have a tumble drier facility with our Hotpoint washing machine but your instructions were identical. I couldn’t believe the gunge that had accumulated in the filter and the pong that accompanied it wasn’t too nice either. I’m not a DIY person but clearing the filter was very satisfying.
Thanks for instructions. As a 70 year old I found it very difficult to unscrew the filter and had to use a set of pliers but hopefully I managed to screw it back in properly!
Thank you so much for this I had so much rubbish on my filter and manager to clean it all with your advice I feel so proud
Thank you so much. So many other instructions for washing machines on the internet assume lots of prior knowledge, but you showed exactly the steps. I found two metal tubes off a hoodie that must have been from former tenants years ago! And lots of muck. Hopefully it will work much better now!
Thanks for this. Clear and straightforward instructions.
Thank you. Was very helpful. Always easier when shown.
Thanks for keeping it simple and straight to the point.
This was so easy and helped me clean the filter myself! Thank you
I just did mine.. but still there is one coin left that I couldn't take out... what to do,I tried to reach it with my finger....
Thanks that was so helpful. Great clear video.
Really helped this morning. Cheers mate 😊👍🏼
Thanks Sean, saves me a fortune on call out maintenance
Thanx that was realy helpfull
Same washing machine as mine,it only unscrews so far,it wont come out.
Any tips please?
so there is no dedicated lint filter like on a stand alone tumble dryer?
Whats the green thing next to the filter for?
Thanks, very helpful!!!
Thank you so much I thought my washing machine was broken, realised filter needs cleaning😅.
Just the video I needed:)
... super helpful. Thankyou.
Thanks for a useful video.
Also, make sure you clean the filter before putting it back on.
Thank you, a great tip. Saved on an expensive call out charge (plus VAT!)
Worked, many thanks
Hi, I have this machine, a WDL540 C (UK). The tumble dryer was just making clothes hot and steamy so I opened it and removed the plastic steam condenser to the gunk out and got all the lint off the fan in the heater box. Now I've refitted the steam condenser but the lower end with a concertina rubber ring and metal ring to fasten it doesn't seem to grip anything and the condensing water leaks out. Any ideas? I've been at this for hours and phoned around but can't get help! Thanks. Peter
Very helpful thank you
Have tried this but could not turn the filter to remove it. Any suggestions on how to release
got a problem.... when I put tumble on... it starts for about 30 seconds then stops with all the lights on the square buttons flash... any ideas????
Does this machine have a lint filter? If so, where is it located?
mines a wdl520 aquarius, but dosnt have a filter at the front... can it be any where else???
Thanks sorted. Hopefully will stop the small leak when running it..
It’s been incredibly difficult to remove the filter and to put it back in - any suggestions?
thanks...v useful
Just did this and so far drum not filling up with water and spin cycle not so excessively loud.. Thanks!
Hi, i have tried this but my filter feels "spring loaded" it will only come out so far then a spring pulls it back into place ?
Something is blocking it, like a hair grip 😮
Never seen a dryer with such an unnecessarily difficult removal for a lint trap. What a terrible design lol
Do shut up complaining
@@stephensnell1379 no you shut up this is a channel for opinions not just yours
So awful! No way of draining the water into a bucket/pot either, which means draining out litres of water onto towels on the floor
It's terrible, the panel is so flimsy that when I tried to take it off it cracked all the way down the middle
Video says gently I need a jack to get this filter cap off 😭🙌🏻
How much water comes out mine flooded my room
Thanks for that x
Would cleaning this help with the dryer function of the washing machine???
Thank you 🙏
Thanks - I think I need to clean it more often - it stank when I opened it up!
Thanks. I had a F-05 Error (could not drain) on my Hotpoint and couldn't work out how to remove the panel without this video. I had to use a monkey wrench to turn the filter, but I could get in and clear the limescale that was blocking it.
Good video. Very helpful and clear. You say 'isolate the appliance from the mains'. I say 'unplug the machine'. Other than that, though excellent tutorial.
Thank you
my hotpoint washing machine pump cover wont turn to take it out? what can i do?
Tony Mcmurdie i have the same problem. Did you solve it?
Mine only turns a bit but won’t come out
Thanks alot
I didnt know that, Have a go later, also I bought limescale greaser remover,do that first. Many thanks

I cannot get the filter unscrewed to clean it any suggestions?
My filter cap doesn't have anything to grip onto to help turn it 😕
I found that once unscrewed the filter would not come out of the machine as something was jamming it. Pulling on the filter resulted in the screw thread section coming off the main part of the filter, still stuck in the machine. Other UA-cam video's explain it is then necessary to turn the machine on its back and remove the whole pump mechanism and take out the blockage from the inlet pipe. I wasn't up for this as we have a dryer on top of the washer and my back wasn't up to lifting it off, so I would have to call out an engineer, wait for him/her to arrive, and then pay. So I used an old screwdriver, that had all its sharp edges rounded off by use and abuse, and levered the filter out. This was risky and I expected the filter would break and/or I would damage either the inside of the filter housing or the rubber gasket on the filter, leading to leaks when reassembled. I had to exert gentle but considerable force (no sharp jerks) and eventually the child's sock that was causing the problem ripped sufficiently to enable the remaining part of the filter to come out. I was then able to pull out the offending sock, reassemble the two parts of the filter and screw it back in. I think I was lucky something did not break.
Having the same problem. Difficult to see where the screw driver needs to enter as there appear to be three rings around the filter cap. I suppose it must be the inner one .
I have the same issue. Filter cover does not want to move at all and we don’t want to risk breaking it by forcing it.
Mine only turns roughly 45 degrees, if that.
Update: I managed to unscrew it with a pair of pliers to find a sock in the filter. I had the dreaded ‘all lights flashing’ and was actually going to buy a new machine tomorrow morning. Thankfully, the machine appears to be running perfectly again.
Thanks
I've taken off the filter and cleaned it but after fastening back on its main a nice it never made previously and its definitely Comin from the pump. Do I REALLY need to buy a new washer? Please help
Thanku
Cheers mate
hi senior, my problem is ,the motto can't turning
Hotpoint fdf 9640 fitting lower cover
Thanks for posting, but needed some ‘close-ups’ of that procedure.
this is why I never bother washing my clothes
Yuck that's absolutely disgusting your clothes HAVE to be washed in a Washing Machine when they become smelly
LMAO😂
It was impossible from the very beginning I purchased this washing machine to remove the filter for cleaning. Issue was reported straight away to Hotpoint. Issue was never solved. Please, Could anyone help to solve this issue?.
mine is hard won't turn anti clockwise
Mine wont unscrew .. the man in the video makes it look very easy but my round door to the filter wont unscrew 🤷🏼♀️
I've taken off the bottom panel only to find a red cover over where the filter should be that has an image of a hand crossed out by a electrical looking arrow...
I have the same issue, how did you fix it
It won’t open fully. Most be something stuck in it. Now what?
I have a Hotpoint as,I couldnt afford to purchase the one I wanted. Had to pause half way as I thought how incredibly stuoid to haave the filter right at the bottom. Why is it not made higher like the LGs or Samsung. Makes me not want to clean the filter
But how is that actually a “filter”? What does it actually do?
It prevents solids from going in the drain pipe I got a few coins from my filter
Well, I now know where a glasses cleaning cloth got to. I did wonder as it just seemed to vanish. It must have got stuck to something and went into the washing machine and was never seen again until now, mystery solved.
I cleaned it.. but it's leaking water out of it now
I literally can't unscrew it it's on so tight fml.
I gently used a pair of non-sharp pliers to twist the filter cap! This made it so much easier, just be really careful not to snap the plastic handle of the cap
that was a sensible easy access place to put the filter, now they have placed it inside the machine, madness
Guess my surprise when I opened the small front Door. No filter at all. Not even something to hold a filter... Just an empty hole
The filter won’t unscrew🫠
Difficult for someone with disabilities in lower back spine to bend down and open
All I want is a bloody tube to get rid of the water ! I'm sick of flooding the kitchen
Try using a baking tray or something else that's flat with a low lip you can slot just underneath the filter when unscrewing
Nothing fit. Even a dinner tray. Soaked the floor boards. Used towels to mop up the flood. Will probably need to replace floor boards when we move
Yeah I know!
It beggers belief why they put these things soooo low down that you can't even fit a really shallow baking tray underneath! Luckily, I have a concrete floor, but right at the point of the horrible, stinky water coming out, is where my kitchen lino starts, so I never know if thst stinky water has gone underneath the lino. Best thing to do, is to unscrew it REALLY slowly, and just let the water dribble out a bit at a time, onto towels....just like in this video.
@@Mortthemoose the filter is so low as the type of pump used in modern machines is a gravity fed pump meaning gravity helps it to drain the water through the drain hose
Other brands have this, can see where Hotpoint have tried to save money to the detriment of the customer
Unscrewed it still won't come out
what happens if the filters is not cleaned?
Daniel Chambers you buy a new machine
@UCcDSAkYpd8DdbFzjwDLC3gA you dickhead it'll mean the machine won't drain the water away and it'll mean you'd have to remove the pump from the machine in order to remove any blockage as a blockage will jam the pump filter and the pump impeller
Once the filter is cleaned it only has to be put back in place
Don’t show how to put the plastic on will you. Dam thing won’t go back on.
Shite m8
Got the panel off eventually but the black "plug" wont rotate anti clockwise and come off it is so stuff.
Thank you
Thanks
