Wow, this video is solid. The Glock 17 is my first handgun and I thought the cleaning would be a burden. Your instruction made the process painless. Thanks a ton!
Took me a year to find a gun-cleaning video without a "this is absolutely not the way to clean a firearm" comment in the comment section. Must be this is a pretty good one! 👍 Ps: The set for this video looks great!
@@davidluna7481 That's what I noticed. Try cleaning a Glock that hasn't been cleaned in 3000 rounds with this method. By cleaning with oil you would make a bigger mess than you started with.
Great. Learn all the laws and remember safety first. Practice pointing down at the ground, never at a person, then sweeping left or right, then lifting upwards again. Never have your finger on the trigger unless you're gonna fire, etc.
This was a very helpful video for Glock gun care, and gun cleaning in general. I have been around guns my entire life and you can never be too careful. The only other tip to consider is that you should not be distracted or drinking alcohol while performing gun maintenance. Get them clean and safely stored, then enjoy your libation of choice. Cheers!
Thanks. I use Hoppe's no. 9 bore cleaner to clean not just the bore but the slide and the grip as well, using a patch and wiping everything down. I only use the lube to lube the barrel where it touches the slide, and the metal parts visible on the grip.
110 percent do NOT put oil in the striker channel. Clean with warm water & Q-tips untill there is no visible residue in the channel. Using Oil in that channel could cause a host of issues one being light striker hits. Glocks are designed to run with very little oil folks.
Helpful! But I bought a Hoppes cleaning kit and it didn’t come with a lot of this stuff lol. (The brush, the first attachment used for the cloth, etc.)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 KJV, Jesus Christ is the only way.......
Your camera angles are too far away. We should only see the gun. More detailed closer imagery on the barrel on the recoil spring assembly on the trigger etc. We shouldn’t see you at all.
Only thing that im confused about is the fact that you have a cleaner on the table... but used the lubricant for everything. Is your lubricant a cleaner and lube like others on the market? I have both. but i cleaned everything with the cleaner and then used the lube after coming up with a clean cloth.
Nice clear and to the point video. It exactly parallels the instruction manual that comes with a new Glock 17. I just got mine last week so I've been reading up. This made it so much simpler! There's not reason not to keep it clean now.
just purchased mine yesterday but gotta wait 10 days to pick it, i know the guy in the video said to clean it every time you shoot it but when i was speaking with the gun dealer, he mention that his coworker has a glock and is intentionally not cleaning his glock and it has been over 9 months and it hasnt jammed on him.
@@luiszaragoza6500 Glocks run even dirty. I hear the same thing. I still plan to clean mine after every few hundred rounds because it's really not hard to do.
Is the hoppes only for the gun bore? I noticed you cleaned the rest of the gun with the lubricant. Can you use it to clean the slide or is it strictly for the bore??
I'm new to gun ownership. I realized that the lubricant was used to clean and lubricate the Glock. So, when am I supposed to use the solvent solution? Is it only for cleaning the inside of the barrel?
i’m a new officer about to start my first day being armed so i wanna make sure how to clean my new Glock 17 before i go in for inspection i just picked up my glock today it seams nice and oiled but still questioning if i should still clean it
Just getting into Handguns in Melbourne, Australia Bought a Gen5 as my first... been around guns since I was in my late teens now in early 50's lol finally took up pistols... Do we need to disasemble the firing pin ever for cleaning on the Glock 17 Gen5 >?
You have to pull the trigger before you can pull the slide off. 1: Drop mag. 2: Rack slide to remove chambered round. 3: Check chamber to make sure it's empty. 4: Pull the trigger. 5: Pull the slide back, but only very slightly. Hold the slide in place. 6: Pull down on both sides of the slide stop. 7: Pull the slide off the frame.
Exactly! You’re only supposed to LIGHTLY lubricate the barrel, feed ramp, locking lug, areas of the slide where the barrel contacts, cruciform connector, and slide rails.
When I got my Glock 17 I took it to the range and had the armorer lubricate it first. It’s clean already but dry. The armorer said to clean it every time but that’s assuming a person shoots 200 or 300 rounds a range visit. If you shoot 100 rounds a visit then clean it every other time. But you can add a little oil on the the second visit if it’s been more than three weeks.
Just bought a G17 G5 as my very first gun I ever bought. Not new to firearms as I have shot multiple guns over the last 30 years, but never actually cleaned or owned one. This video helped out a lot. Cleaned it when I bought it like it is recommended and then after taking it to the range the first time too. My only thing is how do you know if you put the gun back together correctly? I am guessing if the trigger reset works that means it is back together right.
Thanks for the video. Some comments. It might be helpful to have some close-up shots of those specific areas you talk about on the gun. Like 'add a drop of oil here' and show a close up. Thanks!
what is the edt you mentioned several times... ?... I wasn't born with that knowledge... And is it REALLY necessary to have a drum banging away the whole time ?....
Those first tools you ram throw brawl im pretty sure you ran the sharp end of one into the side of barrel on the inside this scratching it, should use a much smaller tool to run cloth through and avoid sharp metal on side contact
Perfect video. Only one little thing: since I'm a new Glock owner, it would have been a great hint to comment that once you pull down the release, to pull the trigger to release the slide. I had to watch your video a few times to see that is what you did to release the slide. Thanks.

Just picked up a Glock 17 too and this video helped A LOT, I agree.
Same.
Same, just bought mine on my 21st birthday or April 2.
Had mines for 2 years and have always been scared of cleaning it. This video was a breeze just finished cleaning it took me 30min great tutorial 👍🏻
Yes, I have to agree. Short, to the point, and solid clear information.
Thank you my friend. Yesterday I cleaned and lubricated my glock 17 for the first time! 💪
Glad to hear it!

Is there such things as too much lubricant on each of the parts?
Yes. You don't want it to be dripping, just shining with lubricant. You can always wipe excess off
Great video for a rookie gun owner like myself that was fun

Is there any complete kit you would recommend or did you pick the items up separately over time?
Gen, you can find the Bore Cleaner, oil and tools all on Hoppes.com.
Straight up the most dope disassemble, clean, reassemble video I've ever seen. Awesome. 😎
Slow down on the disassembly. A closer view would help also
I have friends who never clean their glock and never have malfunctions.
Ain't it grand?!

Did you clean the spring? Wouldn’t copper brush damage the inside of the barrel? So it’s ok to dry fire the gun?
lately my slide had been locking back on every shot, i believe its time for a cleaning
Best way to know how often to clean your gun!

Great! I got slightly heavy handed with the lubricating gun oil so I wiped it all down a paper towel when I was done! Otherwise. Perfect video!
for beretta??
That sounds exactly like a handgun in real life that camera’s mic picked it up perfectly! Sounds just like you’re standing there 0:08
Does anyone else have a problem taking there slide off..? Im doing exactly what he’s doing and its not coming off
Been calling it Hop-eez all my life. Its not Hops. Spread the word.
I put multiple patches through none came out clean. How can I actually clean my Glock if it’s actually dirty? 😂
Nicely done video. Very helpful. Concise yet complete. Thank you.
Put ammo away from work space. Has shelf full of glock mags right next to his work space 😂😂
I recently bought my first firearm. Any tips?
Great instructions, easy to understand. Thank you
Carry guns get extremely dusty with lint and sweat if its hot and humid 🥵 . I clean my carry once a week cause rags and oil are cheap and I enjoy it .

Dayum! You hate hogs - did you eat him?
Fuck it.. Can't get those two release pins down. When I do, the slide doesn't come off.
Hey first thanks and I was just wondering, what kinda brush should I use? What do you recommend?
I use a brass brush
If you're gonna dry fire, you really should use snap caps/dummy rounds though.

hi
Still can’t get my gun apart. Just destroying my nails trying lol
You don’t clean the recoil spring assembly?
All of this gun oil and cleaner making me get confused 🤦🏻♂️💯
Do I have to pull the trigger before I remove the slides and after as well? I just remove the top and clean the barrel and pop it back on.
You have to pull the trigger before you can pull the slide off.
1: Drop mag.
2: Rack slide to remove chambered round.
3: Check chamber to make sure it's empty.

Do we oil the springs ?
Searched for his comment. The springs were never addresses.
seriously, get rid of the fckng MUSIC.
He says wipe down all parts of inside of the slide with lube but aren’t you supposed to avoid certain parts like the firing pin channel
Exactly! You’re only supposed to LIGHTLY lubricate the barrel, feed ramp, locking lug, areas of the slide where the barrel contacts, cruciform connector, and slide rails.
Is there a difference between cleaning a revolver and 9mm automatic gun
Do you need to lubricate/ oil during cleaning on a brand new , never fired Glock?
Making sure it’s clear after you just tore it down seems a little bit ridiculous, lol
Arent you over lubricating when you are cleaning it with….. oil?
I am a senior and have difficulty dealing with the slide lock, is there a mechcanical device i can use? I have no nails
I'm new to the gun community this helped me alot thank you.
Great video, all killer, no filler, thanks Luke
excellent, but why the disco soundtrack?
Close up shots. Can't see a shit. Don't you want new gun owners to follow??
My slide release lever’s go in when I try to press them down. Smh
no u dont put oil in the back of the slide lmao that will just attract dirt build up
To get this straight you clean your gun with lubricant?
great video.. I just purchased my first handgun today and stuff like this really helps being new
how i should clean the recoil spring??
Does this cover “cleaning” and “lubricating”? Which product is the cleaner? Which product do you use to “clean” the slide?
He used the Hoppes Oil as a “cleaner”…. I assume he got fired because he has not responded to anybodys comments in over a year
@@davidluna7481 lol
Simple easy also included all information I felt I needed!
New Glock 17 owner here....is it common practice to clean it before the first firing/usage?? Thought I read that somewhere....thank you.
You can, if you'd like, but it's not necessary. Glocks are ready to go right out of the box.

So question, ik with hammer action semi auto pistols you can have one chambered without the firing pin cocked, is this possible on a Glock?
Great video. Keep it simple:)
