Hickok45 videos are filmed on my own private shooting range and property by trained professionals for educational and entertainment purposes only, with emphasis on firearms safety and responsible gun ownership. We are NOT in the business of selling firearms or performing modifications on them. Do not attempt to copy at home anything you see in our videos. Firearms can be extremely dangerous if not used safely.
Not a problem. Ballistol is non-toxic. Besides, I've washed my hands in gasoline, paint thinner and everything else over the years. I don't recommend it, but my generation just lives differently. :-)
Haha, "my generation lives differently". Isn't that the truth. We aren't afraid of our shadow and words don't hurt us.
@hickok45 I was wondering if you could do a separate cleaning video, more geared towards long term storage of a handgun? Would you use different solvent, or add much more?
legendary comment
Could I use wd40
Lol this is how my grandpa showed me to wash my hands one time
Anything this man says about Glock and how he cleans them, I listen to it.
Step by step
I watch Hickok 45 frequently to get his opinion on firearms. I've been a cop for 30 years and carry constantly. I never stop learning and this site has kept me on my toes. Basic cleaning process is an area we all need to revisit. Excellent videos as always Sir.
Thank you for serving us sir!

you mean "GOD". not lower case.
Ty for your service
@@johnme4443 *sigh*.
The main thing is, you don't want oil in the firing pin channel, inside the slide where it will attract dirt and gum up the free movement of the striker, or even the firing pin block, I suppose. That said, a crazy Glock might just operate quite well even with the channel gummed up considerably. For a carry or defensive gun, you just wouldn't want to take the chance.
"I run that in there a few times... work it in and out, from the rear."

best quote ever.

This method has worked well for my g19 and g26. Hickok is my you tube gun dad! Awesome videos!
the ballistol video that started it all...
feels almost ceremonial to watch.
@TitusEC, because Ballistol does better than anything I've ever used. All sort of cleaners would clean okay, but Ballistol's lubing effect, even when you've wiped it off, is a huge attraction. Great stuff.
Thank you Hickok45 for helping me buy all 6 of my guns. Really love the natural feel of your videos and honest presence :)
+JLXPRO why on God's green earth would you buy 6 guns?
+Kumail Abbas Better question is why not
+Kumail Abbas Because he can't yet afford 7. Duh.
+Kumail Abbas 1 word. America
+Kumail Abbas Why in the world do you care?
Please re-film this classic video in HD!
Yes please
Tt Ss Hey woah woah, lol. Why so harsh?! It's not that we need HD, but I mean, this video is a couple of years old, who knows, he might of changed up his system, found some products that work better, and so on. We were just saying that this video was put together really great, and that with the tech we have now, it'd be cool to have this video like "remastered" if you will. Just like every has an update on their EDC, or systems they have in their cars or homes, things change. That's all we were wondering. I just don't understand why you just. I just don't understand why you categorized this generation as needs, or because we don't have the "listening skills required" whatever that means, bud, I'm pretty sure I hold the same listening skills as you, maybe more advanced, or they still need work, but regardless, I understood him just fine... anywho, relax, and go have a snickers. We're all here just to enjoy awesome content, let's do that.
Ladies...please minimize the chatter. Enjoy the value of this "how to video"..
At the end of the day, keep it simple ...keep your weapon clean and lubed, and at the ready..
*Whoa, whoa
It's not "Noah"'s ark, with a W. Thank you. But more to the point, I doubt hickok has the interest in redoing this entire video because the resolution isn't great on your 70" LCD.
Pleaasseeee
Hello Hickok45, since rejoining the 'gun culture' after many years of absence I've found your videos to be invaluable to me in my quest for recalling the basics of firearm maintenance, cleaning and of course safety, taught to me years ago by my Father, who I lost at age 18. Like you, he had a very easy, steady and non-pedantic way about him...somehow I just knew that He knew what He was talking about...and that's a mouthful from a know-it-all 13 yr. old. I'm 60 now, finally married (12 yrs.) and a homeowner. All I seek from gun ownership is an added degree of safety and security for what my Wife and I have created. I'm a hound for info and have found the likes of Yourself, Massad Ayoob, Chuck Hawks, Jerry Miculek, and a few others to be very beneficial. Anyway, I seem to have rambled on there for a bit, so to the point. In your cleaning video for Glock at roughly 7:25 you are brushing the slide to remove powder from it however it is pointed up...everything else I've read suggests that it be pointed down especially regarding the firing pin/striker area so as not allow any possible debris in...? Please understand, this is an observation, not a criticism from a Newbie trying to learn again what he forgot years ago...I have nothing but respect for you Sir. I appreciate how many requests you must receive daily desiring response and of course I would as well, but failing that, perhaps in your next video you could expand on my question? Thank you Sir for all you have shared with us...and also, thank you to the screener who reads this. Be Safe.
I am fairly new to shooting with pistols and am not just born, but am no expert either. Your videos and years of expertise really put everything together that ANYBODY can follow. From the expert advice to and including your personal opinions, this video made cleaning my glock 19 gen 4 very easy. A BIG THANK YOU! Of everyone else around telling me and explaining it, your video put it right in to perspective and SHOWED me exactly how! And it's through YOUR videos that I felt at ease and comfortable attempting on my own. Thanks again for everything you do and ALL of your reviews and expert advice! Stay healthy and safe!
Watching this 10 years later in 2020. I really appreciate what you do, sir!
@King Duke always go to the best for everything
Same! Always coming back to trusty Hickock, been 6 yrs since i discovered this channel
TRUE*********
Same
Me too!
Just had to tell you how much you have helped me out on choosing my guns , cleaning and striping them and shooting them! You have been a huge influence on my hobbie and my way of life considering I carry a Glock 27 , like my MasterCard. I bought a ruger sr9c and had nothing but problems with it , sent it to ruger , got it back and they didn't fix the problem so I looked up your videos on concealed guns and after watching you shoot the 27 I was already hooked on Glocks ! I left right after I watched the video and drove straight to gander mountain and traded it in for a g27 and I tell you it was the best thing I've ever dun with something to do with guns. I've shot over 4,000 rounds through it with not even one malfunction not one ! Which takes me to my next problem gun . I wanted a 45. And I did watch the video you did on the xds and it did look and feel like a great gun even though I went there for a sf21 it caught my eye . Well it was another mistake not from your review it was my luck and just like the ruger it had problems from the get go , light primer strikes , double feeds and the slide wouldn't go back in place so after being so disappointed in the craze for xd's being the next big thing! I sent it to Springfield , got it back they said they fix it and wouldn't ya know 2 Bullitts out of the gun and light primer strike cuz the slide still wouldn't go back in place so.....what do I do I traded that in for my g21sf and like my 27 after around 1,000 rounds in it not one hickup ! Super long story short your expertise on guns has been so helpful and I can't thank you enough! Your videos are great and I can't wait to see more ! And once again thank you for making me a very proud Glock owner! I'll probably never buy anything but a Glock!
I did a fair amount of research before I bought my first Glock; a 23. Loved it so much I just bought a 17 a few months later. Your videos were and still are very helpful and fun to watch. Thanks for taking the time to share your expertise, It's much appreciated. Mark Anderson Mankato, MN
hickok45 is the reason I own 3 Glocks. I was a Sig man my entire life but got hooked on his demonstration of the G-26, G-27 & G-30. I have loved them and one of them even became my EDC!
"Feel my barrel, its really smooth."
-Hickok45
🤣😂 my sense of humor was working also 👍
I came here looking for this comment lol
Very good video. The Glocks definitely don't need a lot of oil. Back in the 90's when I was taught how to clean and lube a Glock (with CLP), we lubed the contact points on the frame just as you did. However, we also used a single drop on the exterior of the barrel and a single drop in both of the channels in the slide.
Thank you for everything !!! 10 years later still making videos
I am 56, and I have been cleaning by guns wrong for about 48 years. Thank you for this information.
If you haven't had any issues no need to change it now! I believe a machine needs to be well lubricated. And the self defense class guys say they see a lot of under lubricated guns at their courses, especially with the guys have failures. With that being said a Glock really doesn't need much.
I'm late to the party, but if you haven't had failures because of your cleaning methods, then don't change them.
I always listen to a man who can consistently bang a gong from 40 yards with anything.
What a fantastic channel. Just purchased my first Glock (26G4), ran 50 rounds through it yesterday, and found this channel for instructions. Will definitely be referencing many of your videos as my gun collection grows.
Just curious man, how many guns do you have now? Lol
Zzz's aZzz,,,
Just purchased my first Glock. Your video's have been most helpful. Thanks for taking the time to share that wisdom!
Have you got any new ones since this post
Hickok45... this is an exceptional video. You helped save my life from worrying about how to clean my new glock. I've watched a number of videos and not one compares to the ease and simplicity of your method. This is the only way I clean now and I was able to find ballistol at a gun shop. Thank you for his informative video!
Great cleaning vid Hickok, I needed one on Glocks, since mine is new and hasn't been shot, I did this exact cleaning. Thanks for doing this vid.
I appreciate all you and John do putting this vids out, they are extremely helpful for me at least!!
Thank you for taking 15minutes of your time. You're like my dad I wanted to help me out. A lot of people will tell you how to shoot but not clean.
I love rewatching these old videos! Thank you for doing what you and John do!
Hi Hickok 45 I have been watching your videos for the last 4 months and I must say I have learned a lot from you. I just purchased a Glock 30 4th Gen yesterday after watching you shoot one in your video. I wanted to get something I could carry without it being so big. Your cleaning video was great. Thank you for being so detailed in your videos. I look forward to watching many more.
Many many more !!hickok45 for president lol
As a new Glock owner I really appreciated this video. Cant wait to hit the range. Thanks for another excellent video hickok45
Great video to watch even years later. Great workbench too. Its seen its share of cleanings I'm sure.
I just started using Ballistol! And it makes cleaning so much easier. I used to use shooter lube solvent and oil or Hoppes. But ballistol cleans the guns so well and it’s all in one .
You wiped your face with the balistol rag at 12:30, that's freakin awesome!!! Balistol a lube , a cleaner, and face lotion
Ryan P after all it does say carcinogen free
Ryan P lol
Better than windex
Just the smoothness of your hands, your experience shows. Now, I've admired Hitchcock for as long as I can remember, and I found this video, I don't know how I missed it. Just wow
I am only at 3:29 into this video and I just wanted to comment that I wonder how many percentage points the sale or sales of ballistol has gone up just by Hickok45 mentioning that this is what he uses to clean his guns. I might be wrong, but I would bet that it is a noticeable amount.
Yes, I started using Ballistol after watching Hickok45, too. I do put a little of it where the owner's manual says to, though.
bought a can myself
I bought Ballistol from Amazon after watching this video, it is an awesome product! I also pick up cheap toothbrushes anywhere I find them, again because of this cool old dude. I own a bunch of gun cleaning brushes but toothbrushes are more flexible and get into those tight places better. I know I'm a sheep especially for old Hickock lol
I’d never heard of it till this video. I’ve had spells where I’ve used it for awhile but always go back to hoppes
@@bobbycoffey7761 I bought some because of this video years ago but I rarely use it because I can't stand the way it smells. It smells like piss ants to me!
So I used the Ballistol on my cast iron pan and now my eggs taste funny. Just joking! I do love my cast iron pan but love your videos way more. Thank you so much for this video and all the wonderful videos you put out. I have learn so much from you. You just seem like a really great guy too. Thanks again for all the videos ! Life is good ! :)
Thank you for the video. I just got my first handgun, a Glock 21, and with your help I'll be able to keep it clean and ready at all times.
First of all, thank you for what you do for the shooting fraternity, and for simplifying things for those many citizens recently joining us. Your decades of experience leave no room for doubt about any/all topics you cover.
As the 52 yr old son of a gun smith, firearms are in my DNA. We mostly re-blued and parkerized. Pop from the mid '60's on, my brother and I joining him in the mid '70's until the Clinton admin pulled the rug out from under all those without a store front. Pop passed a few years ago as not doing what we love tends to put us in an early grave. I went from re-finishing firearms to bluing high quality swords. (at night,, blued swords are invisible) No, I'd never ''bring a knife to a gun fight''. However, I'd gladly bring a sword to a knife fight.
I've been telling people for decades to use denatured alcohol for cold degreasing and to never over oil. ( ENOUGH with the WD-40 people!) Having said this, and as a first time Glock owner,,(G-27 Gen 4) a few questions if I may.
1) What is your reason for not oiling the firing pin and/or extractor assembly. (heat/pressure from round discharge?) and after how many rounds should slide be disassembled & cleaned, but NOT oiled? (using only jacketed ammo)
2) After brush cleaning, can compressed air (with in-line water filter) be used to clear any remaining debris from pistol frame and/or slide?
And finally,#3) Did you like the Glocks when they first started gaining market share in the mid-late '80's? Or did they need to grow on you for a while.
Pop ''hated'' them at first because of the polymer frame, we couldn't make money on them. Eventually the testimony from dozens of officers we've done work for over the years forced him to admit that, because of the reduction in injuries due to less weight, and their round capacity, Glocks were a badly needed upgrade for our brothers and sisters in law enforcement.
My father tried to warn citizens for decades about the direction we were headed on this issue, the mis/dis-information out there seems at times insurmountable. As you can imagine most everyone, even family,, laughed at him for his views. During his funeral, and the weeks after his passing countless people contacted me saying ''You know, Mitch was right. Almost everything he said has come true, especially during this present admin. It's as if he could see the future.''
I told them all the same thing, '' Yes, time has shown him to have been correct about most things. And I can't help but notice that,,, none of you are laughing anymore. Welcome to the party. Now, what are you going to do about it?''
Most understood why I said this. A few got mad. Me, I can care less either way. I'm not nearly as polite as my father was. I stopped pulling my punches in political discourse long ago.
I am my fathers son. The only difference is,, I'd much rather be free than polite.
Anyway, sorry so long,, thanks for everything.
Just got a Glock 19 Gen 3 (CA). Really well done, accessible and understandable tutuorial!
Putting "CA" on here doesn't help you. Probably hurts lmao. Commiefornia
Happens to be where I live and where this handgun is on the roster. There are a lot of us here who won’t give up on the state. We don’t cut and run despite the challenges.
I have the same pistol in California I can’t wait to move out of here
I live in California too and just purchased a G17 Gen 3. For others who don’t know we can only buy new Gen 3 Glocks. Gen 4s and Gen 5s aren’t on our roster. Lenny Magill of Glock Store and sootch00 have some good cleaning videos too.
I love that table!
Thank you Hickok. Just got my first Glock 17 a few weeks ago and this video was perfect as I cleaned it for the first time.
Ballistol is awesome. I started using it years ago after watching this video. Love this video
Love this video. Just cleaned my 27 and 23 for the first time after running a couple hundred rounds through each of them and this really clarified a couple of things for me. You're doing God's work, Hickok45! :D
walked into gander mountain and low and behold, ballistol !😎
Easy, simple, not complicated with any fancy tools I respect that 👍🏼
I love your 'old wood' work desk !!!
Thank you Hickok. Got a Glock 26 last year and I conceal carry that thing everyday. Going to need a cleaning very soon so this video will be very helpful.
Older than you are BUT I love to learn from you. Thanks for good info.
Hickok, thanks for another great video! I don't have many friends to ask advise on pistols and have been wanting to to matches for over a year now. I have watched many, of your vids and taken much of your advise. I shot my first match with a G35 last weekend and surprised myself and did much better than I expected, thanks to you and a few other knowledgeable contributors on youtube. Now it's time to do a "Proper" cleaning as I just found out I have been using too much oil.
Thank you for explaining the process. I will clean my Glock 26 accordingly. I love your videos. Greetings from Türkiye.
I just learned how to clean my new Glock and how to fry my morning eggs, thank you Sir
Being an M14/M1A disciple I use grease on all my semiautos including my Glocks. Militec-1 or Valvoline Duralube grease in an extremely light film. on the slide's barrel collar, chamber shoulder/slide interface and a tiny blob in each slide rail. All applied with a cleaning pick and rubbed in. Militec-1 is like this Ballistol which I have never seen, it penetrates the metal and lingers. And Duralube is moly-rich, it sets up a residue too. Like BTP sez "if it will lube a CV joint, it will lube anything". $3.95 a pound can at Auto Zone, will last all my semiauto firearms for two lifetimes of shooting. For bores I run old school with Hoppe's #9. Just love the smell and it works. Sweet's 7.62 Solvent to de-copper once a year in non chrome-lined barrel arms.. Douche out the frame/receiver with Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubber once in a while but usually just dry toothbrush like Hickok. Feed the Parkerizing with CLP to make 'em black and shiny and rub it in with a patch or two.
Hickock you've answered every gun question I ever had and loads I didn't know to ask, God bless you sir.
Has he changed his thinking/methods since this was made? His XDM .45 video shows him using Ballistol very liberally and in places he normally wouldn't touch.
Yeah cuz it's XDM not a Glock glocks don't need all that lube and oil
Thanks Hickok. I had Froglubed the entire slide including the firing pin before seeing your video. Thanks for the lesson.
Sir you like Glock’s eggs and cast iron skillet’s you have yourself a sub!!!
Hey Hickok45, you are great! What would we do without you? Keep teaching us. I receive so much from your videos. Thank you.
Hickok45 is like the Michael Jordan of the fire arm realm lol love your vids!
Thanks again hickok45.
when it comes to shooting, I can just about reference any firearm on your channel and that is just about the best thing since sliced bread for me.
really appreciate what you do.
God Bless.
thank you for all of ur helpful info on glocks and other firearms. after years of shooting shotguns i just bought my first handgun and it so happens to be a glock and i love it! so much fun to shoot!
I work it in and out from the rear too
Me too....just worked it in and out from the rear last night as a matter of fact. Love my wife!
I have been watching your channel for well over a year now and they are all entertaining and informative. UA-cam suggested this video. Despite it being an older one I am looking to buy my first gun soon and it will be a Glock. I am the “new Glock owner”. Thanks for uploading all the great videos. P.S. I love the range set up you have.
Is it weird that I am watching this, but don't own a Glock?
knowledge never hurts
I guess that's true.
***** I don't think I can even get one, seeing how I am only 18, but my dad owns a, um, .44 magnum with a about 4, or 5 inch barrel.
***** I don't really know my guns.
***** Lol
Just wanted to let you know I enjoyed your video. I just purchased a Glock 21 Gen 4
Thanks a lots. It sure helps us newbies..
Biggest mistake, I see people make, is OVER oiling. Too much oil can cause more problems than not oiling at all.
I am new to Glock and found this video is perfect guide for cleaning Glock. I really enjoy your videos Hickok45 Thanks.
Love your videos, you are my Go To person when considering a new gun, always like to hear your opinions, always informative, truly appreciate your videos, thank you
I converted to Ballistol® about six months ago. My findings are the same as yours. Superior product!
Hi Hickok45, could you please remake the glock cleaning and complete disassembly in HD quality? Thanks for the great videos man.
I doubt he does anything differently haha
Lol
Ok, I just got my background check and picked it up. nice lady who owned the place threw in a box of 50 ball to play with, and a cleaning kit. so that's why i'm back here again. I have to confess, when I was taking the receiver off, and I had to dry fire it, i was very very nervous, even though, as you said, do safety check and make sure no round is in there. Got it disassembled but a little hazy on everything to clean on the barrel. Thanks again sir for your very helpful vid,
Hickok45 ...love you channel Sir. Im a new gun owner (Glock 30 SF)....brand new and have only ran about 100 rounds through it so far. How often would you recommend cleanings? I understand you can't answer every inquiry....but it would be most appreciated. Thanks!
I can tell you my experience! clean your gun whenever you fire some rounds, even 5 or 10 rounds. and don't delay it or the carbon particles harden! and when you fire 50 or 100 rounds, then, you gotta clean it completely, by taking it down(field stripping)! and you can clean your mags tooafter like 500 or 1000 rounds! hope that answers your question!
Much appreciated.
no problem. glad to share some useful info with you
also read your weapon's manual. I think the cleaning process should be explained in detail!
Is “field stripping” what he did in this video?
That is exactly how a Glock should be cleaned and oiled. Too many people just spray oil all over the place and that's going to do a lot more damage than good. Great video for people who need to know how to clean a Glock!
I put ballistol in a little atomizer bottle (perfume sprayer) that I bought empty on amazon. It’s awesome I can buy pure ballistol without propane much cheaper in a big can then just pour it into my spray bottles. Works great.
9:15 "I work it in and out from the rear" if you know what I mean.
Two million plus views! it's the best video on the net! Thanks,Bill!!
I believe it is called seasoning the barrel when you oil it and it absorbs the oils
Same here just got my first two Glock's and was trying to figure out the best cleaning methods thanks!!
I just wear mine in the shower.
I found this video very helpful...especially the part about not getting any oil near the striker. Thanks for posting this!
Do Glocks really have to be cleaned?? I've had my Glocks for years and only been cleaned no more than 2 times. They work just fine.
They will work just fine probably until you really need to depend on one of them. :-)
hickok45 glock porn 🤣 #teamglock23
If you shoot it....clean it!
Its a classic video from Hickok45! Soothing to watch!
Thanks for the info. Just got a 19, and I've been cleaning it pretty much the way you do. Good to see I've been doing it correctly.
"Work it in and out from the rear" hahahahahahah omg
In regards to the toothbrush. If you have really tough gunk on your parts, try using one of those sonic toothbrushes like sonicare. You barely have to put any effort into it as the old saying goes, let the tool do the work. Works wonders for cleaning a lot of things. Plus you can switch heads for different applications. One could be for you gun the another for grout! Have a good one! Thanks Hickok45 for the awesome vids!
Great vid . Glocks don't need alot of oil . it amazes me how many people over oil . The Ballistol works great
I won my Glock 23 at a Glock match here in Mesa AZ about 10 years ago. I won it shooting a Glock 30. The 23 go's every where I go. Love the pistol. Can'y say anything bad about it.
October 2020, and I finally own a Glock. Pretty standard stuff, but feels lighter than my Springfield, definitely simpler to disassemble
Love your stuff Hickok 45. You have made me a safer gun owner and a better gun cleaner. Love the Glock 27 clean video and love watching you shoot all those different guns. God Bless.
I noticed you have alot of Cigar boxes in your video's. Are you a Cigar man too ?
Yes
Nice ! Likewise ! Cigars and Guns my hobbies ! Can you do an M&P9C video when you get a chance please ?
I'm a Joint man
@@432h93z Hickok45 smokes pot in his videos. Just keep watching.!
After watching this video I bought some balistol. I had been using rem oil on my 17, and you wouldnt believe the difference it has made. Thanks hickock, life is good.
I love guns 🔫🔫🔫👍🙋♀️
So I learned I need to scale back on the gun oil in certain areas and not get oil around the action. I coat the the barrel with a light coat of oil right before I drop it into place and will continue to do so. Thanks Hickok45
14:18 you are not ugly sir. you are simply beautiful, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
SingWithFire thank you. :)
Amen !
When I researched Ballistol to try some, on amazon.com I read a few reviews that mentioned Hickok45. Your reach is farther than you think, you have sold it to a few at least. Me for sure. Speaking of research you are my first stop when I have any questions. Thanks for what you do and doing such a great job at it as well.
Sir you convinced me to buy a Glock for my first hand gun. Thank you. Plus thanks for holding it down for us Tennessee boys.
A video about conflict de escalation and what to do after a personal defense shooting to legally protect ourselves afterwards would be very useful.
Just as useful as the rest of your videos, Thank You!
Man, I love that NRA ad at the beginning of this vid. Really hits the nail on the head regarding what is going on in society and the agenda of some democrats. Glad to see the NRA be so proactive in social media. Be gone Feinstein.
I'm a democrat and carry daily. I also have UA-cam Red or Premium as they call it now and don't see ads so I missed that one.
Thanks hickok45. Just cleaned my first g19 after it's first 200 rounds. Looks like it doesn't need much lube at all, it still has it's "copper" colored factory lube. Thanks again for the video.
I use CLP on all my weapons. I guess it is ingrained in my mind after being in the military for over twenty one years.
The Glocks need very little oil. The four metal tabs in the receiver and the trigger mechanism. Slide gets one drop. It’s not like a Kimber which is very tight. Thanks for the video Hickok45! Keep them coming.
Hickok45, what I do after cleaning when I (as you) want ¨Just a drop¨ is spray the end of a fresh / clean Q-Tip and use that vs trying to do a quick burst of lube. Another great video by the way !
